Above all, it proves that HMD Global is on the right track as the Nokia 8 is a commendable effort on its part for the brand’s return to the flagship market. It leaves us with the hope that the company will be able to deliver better flagships that hold their own against rivals in the coming years.

Nokia 8 is an easy to carry smartphone along with the decent features and specifications available in the high price value. The market has already so many smartphones with these features but in less price value. So, if you love Nokia so much then you must go for it otherwise except Bothie feature and QHD display it is offering nothing new.

Overall though I was impressed with the Nokia 8. It costs around £500 SIM free in the UK. You have a chance to get a stunning looking device that packs a lot of punch. However, you may find it hard to compete with devices such as OnePlus with their 5T considering the better camera, dual SIM, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage for the same price.

Living with the Nokia 8 day in, day out is generally a good experience. Overall this is a good first effort for a flagship Android device. Let's not forget that despite Nokia's long history in mobile, that's exactly what it is - the first ever Nokia-branded top of the line model running Google's OS. The Nokia 8 has a good build, is easy to handle, and it feels quite premium with its metal unibody fit and finish.

The Nokia 8 offers a lot of great features such as a powerful chipset, dual-sensor camera and a perfectly sized QHD display, but compared to a lot of the competition right now it struggles to offer anything unique. With a super-high price point, the Nokia 8 is a good phone but far from a great one.

Nokia 8 is a stellar device from HMD Global and it almost checks all the right boxes for the first Nokia-branded flagship. HMD should be proud of what they made created in terms of build quality and software update cycle for an Android-based device. But the 'almost' part is problematic as the areas with issues are massive.

With top-end processing components, a 5.3-inch QHD IPS display, and an IP54-rated aluminum uni-body, the Nokia 8 is a high-end device inside and out, but the performance of its camera module lags behind our (admittedly high) expectations. The Nokia is capable of producing decent still images, but in many situations, it cannot match the image quality of the cameras in current high-end phones from most competitors.

The Nokia 8 is a flagship spec phone at mid-range price, and while it offers pure Android that's fast to update, the phone experience doesn't really raise itself above the average. It's a nice pure Android handset and you get a lot for your money, but it's not the best flagship experience out there.

Having had a hands-on already, I didn't have high expectations from the Nokia 8, but it was a nice surprise. The proposition was interesting at £499, but looks quite compelling at £399. I'd like to see more originality from the company, but as a first flagship it's a promising start.

Despite the Nokia 8’s issues with its camera, its still a perfectly decent flagship for people not keen on dropping more than 30K for a new flagship. Its small size makes it extremely handy and easy to use one-handed, and it’s more than a match for most of the newer flagships today.

Overall, the Nokia 8 is a well-rounded package with top-notch performance, an understated elegance, and a darn good camera. All that at the price of a mid-range flagship where it competes with the likes of Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, OnePlus 5, and Honor 8 Pro – each one with more than one standout features. Yet, it is the only one in the segment that offers pure and up-to-date Android experience.

The only question that remains is whether, in 2017, there’s much appetite in the market for another high-end handset. It’s a long time since the Nokia brand alone was enough to sell phones. Even so, the Nokia 8 is, on its own merits, a worthy rival to the established giants of the market. It might not fully re-establish the prestige of the Nokia of old, but it’s a big, confident stride in the right direction.

Nokia 8 comes with a price tag of Rs 35,999 and it offers all the high-end features and specifications that a flagship should have. It has the latest processor, dual camera setup, fast charging and an impressive metal body design. It also performs well and is a value-f or- money smartphone. Nokia made its name selling no-nonsense phones that were built to last, and while the ownership of the mobile brand might have changed hands, the Nokia 8 is a smartphone that would have been a worthy addition to the lineup of the Finnish company even in its heyday. It offers good build quality, a great display, excellent performance with stock Android, the promise of regular updates, first-class battery life, and good cameras with some neat tricks. On the flip-side, some might find the design boring, it isn’t fully waterproof like many competitors are, and the low-light camera performance could’ve been better.

The Nokia 8 is well made, although it lacks any design features that make it stand out from the crowd (unless you count the reflective copper finish on my review unit). Nokia 8 has some positives, including the design and build quality, the display. The performance of the device is also fast, similar to other phones running this processor. While the Nokia 8 is definitely not the worst smartphone on the market right now, it is also nowhere near the best. It feels and acts like a first time phone and that just isn’t good enough. While I enjoyed taking a break from my iPhone and playing with the Nokia 8, I worry that that was more nostalgia based because the child in me WANTED it to be great. But truth? I cannot wait to switch on my iPhone again and put the Nokia back in the nostalgic part of my memories, where it belongs. Oh and I’m also about to start a campaign to #freethebothie because I need that dual live streaming back in my life. I’ve lived in a world with it and now I just don’t want to go back!

If you were one of the people who thought that when Nokia launches its first flagship Android smartphone, they would remind the world why they were the best all those years ago. That they would spank the likes of Samsung and Apple, then I’d hate to be the one to break it to you but the Nokia 8 is not that phone.

There's a lot to like about the Nokia 8. Its design is sleek and refined, with a number of noteworthy specifications to ensure it is never underpowered or found wanting. Add to that a sub-R10k price tag, which is hard to find for a flagship phone these days, and the Nokia 8 is a great all-round device for the more cost savvy consumer out there.

Nokia, a brand once synonymous with mobile phones, made a comeback in January this year, courtesy HMD Global, the Finnish firm that develops and markets smartphones and feature phones under the “Nokia” brand name. Ever since the resurrection, it’s been a long wait for an Android smartphone that blended Nokia’s expertise in design and camera, and specifications that could take on the likes of flagships from Samsung and LG. After wooing the budget market with Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, HMD Global launched the Nokia 8 in August, the most premium smartphone from the company so far.

In terms of specifications, the Nokia 8 is a powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, which powers nearly all other Android flagships of this generation. It comes with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and support for microSD cards of up to 256GB capacity. As expected, India gets the dual SIM variant of the smartphone (1 nano-SIM + 1 nano-SIM/ 1 microSD card). Stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for a detailed review of the Nokia 8.

The success of the Nokia 8 will come down to price, which currently sits at €599. If that translates to around £549, it’s immediately taking on the OnePlus 5, and I’m not entirely convinced that’s a battle the Nokia 8 can win.

HMD Global’s accomplished something pretty special with the Nokia 8. It’s a big statement from a company that’s not even a year old, that they intend to be a serious contender at the high end of the market just as much as the low. Here’s hoping that the followup to the Nokia 8 will hit it out of the park.

It’s easy to imagine an alternate reality where another, lesser, version of this device coasts along on the novelty of the Nokia brand.

The Nokia 8 is a new chapter for the company’s re-entry into the premium smartphone segment. The device looks elegant and packs the fastest hardware available for this year. Although, the large bezels are going to be a problem for those who were expecting a great alternative for the Galaxy S8. That said, it’s good to see that Nokia’s first Android flagship is the world’s first to feature a dual-lens ZEISS camera. The new “Bothie” function is something we will have to wait and see if users are willing to use in the long run.

Overall, the Nokia 8 is a solid flagship device. Some smart hardware and a bit of vanilla Android marry together for a pleasing enough everyday user experience. And while the dual-lens camera isn’t the best out there, it’s perfectly good for capturing treasured memories (although a software update or two wouldn’t go amiss).

The Nokia 8 retails for €599, and while no UK pricing has yet been announced, current conversion rates put that at a minimum of £545. In practise, it's much more likely to be closer to £600, which puts it firmly in the same price bracket as the Pixel and around £150 more expensive than the OnePlus 5 - which matches its capabilities virtually identically.

The Nokia 8 goes on sale in early September with networks announced nearer to the time and an initial SIM-free price point of €599 (£545) – noticeably lower than most top-of-the-range from rival manufacturers.

For us, the Nokia 8 is the device we've been waiting for since the company announced its plans to get back into the game. The competition is fierce and the Nokia 8 doesn't offer a huge amount that's unique. The build quality and specification can be found elsewhere and there's almost nothing on the software front to make it unique - unlike phones from the dominant Samsung.

Sure, it might have a similar look, but the 8 feels a world apart from Nokia’s three other smartphones. The leap in build quality, hardware and general design is huge, and the dual camera tech shows plenty of promise.

HMD is targeting millennial content creators with the Nokia 8, an influential group to be sure. But are they old enough to remember Nokia in its glory days? We sure do and we're glad to have the brand back (less glad to have Nokia pricing back, though).

We'll have to wait to properly test the Nokia in our full review to decide on whether it's a wise purchase over the S8 or OnePlus 5. A price closer to or below $600, £500 or AU$750 would really help sweeten the deal. There's no question, however, that splashing that top-end cash will snag you a top-end phone that's absolutely worth considering, particularly if you have any sort of nostalgia for the Nokia name.

For a killer feature, I’m not sure that the bothie mode is really anything that couldn’t be accomplished on any other device with the right app (*cough* gimmick *cough*), but having the feature so readily available means that more users will be likely to try it and it is a good way to showcase what the phone is really all about.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco improves upon the manufacturer’s smartphone camera hardware, packing in a dual camera with tele-lens for optical zoom shots and a good PDAF autofocus system. Overall image quality is a step up from the predecessor Nokia 8, offering slightly more consistent results for exposure and color. Its performance and image quality is competent, if not exceptional, with the best photos captured in bright light, producing images with good exposure, color, and texture. Results in lower light are acceptable, but it’s not an ideal low-light shooter, with losses of texture and color saturation evident, especially in very low light. Overall, for a mid-range device, the Nokia 8 Sirocco does an OK job with both photos and video, but devices with better results are available at this price point.

The flagship Nokia is about design: it's slim, with curved glass edges to its 5.5in screen, and a clean Android One software experience. But it launches on dated hardware and which, along with some connectivity issues, spells issues. It's got merit, just not quite enough of it.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco has plenty of plus points: battery life is good, there's plenty of internal storage at 128GB, the Snapdragon 835 processor is competent, the dual rear cameras work well enough, an IP67 rating is welcome, and Android One makes for good future-proofing.

Still, if it falls down in price, the Sirocco will be a great option for those Android purists who like their interface fast and clean or their displays in a more traditional aspect ratio. Until then, the price tag may chase away many potential buyers, irregardless of the nostalgia whiff that Nokia's Sirocco models may send down their spines.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is a conundrum. On the good side, it is strangely compelling. On the other it has 5.5-inch 16:9 POLED display and last year’s Qualcomm 835 SoC.

Ultimately, it's hard to recommend a flagship with a flawed display and merely okay camera and battery life. This would be the voice of reason. We choose to listen to another voice though, and it insists that going a decade back in time is worth putting up with a few imperfections. Nostalgic types, we are.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is one of most well-crafted Android phones we have come across, but compromises under the hood and an underwhelming camera works against it, nevermind the steep asking price.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is a premium flagship smartphone that looks the part. Despite HMD Global’s audacious addition of a dated processor, traditional display ratio, single SIM capability, and removal of the headphone jack, it costs just as much as a phone that includes all of these omissions. Yet, quizzically, everything is still likable about this phone.

At Rs 49,999, a lot of users might think the phone is pricey. I too think this would be a killer device around the price point of the OnePlus 5T. Anyway, given the design and the camera abilities, it will be that hard to impress some people to invest in the Nokia 8 Sirocco as their phone for the next few years.

HMD Global has priced the Nokia 8 Sirocco at Rs 54,999 in the Indian market. This puts the device in almost the same territory as the spectacular Google Pixel 2, and Galaxy S9. The upcoming flagship by OnePlus, the OnePlus 6 is likely to be cheaper than the Sirocco. Despite the capable camera, Android One support, interesting new design and great battery life, I can’t really recommend Nokia 8 Sirocco.

The biggest sticking point for Nokia 8 Sirocco will be its price. At Rs 49,999, this is a premium phone that checks most of the boxes. It’s stylish and sleek – even if slightly unconventional – and boasts of a lot of impressive features. HMD Global has made a product that will excite a lot of users and is certainly one of the better-looking devices around. The display is appealing and the battery performance is really impressive.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is currently HMD Global's flagship offering but that might not be for long. You see, this phone is a bit of an experiment, according to the company, which means we still haven't seen HMD Global's true flagship for 2018. This would most likely be called the Nokia 9, which according to the most recent leak, should have a pretty extravagant camera setup in order to take on the likes of Huawei P20 Pro.

After taking over Nokia, HMD’s efforts are obvious. From Nokia 6 to Nokia 6 2nd Generation, 3310 to 3310 4G and Nokia 7 to Nokia 7 plus… in just over a year, HMD has released more than ten new Smartphones, even some models have been completed iteratively. Among these products, there has also been explosion models, which isn’t easy for an old brand that has returned again.

By the time HMD Global launches the Nokia 8 Sirocco (May in India), there might be quite a lot of 2018 flagships powered by newer hardware, boasting of newer capabilities when it comes to entertainment, AI, security, and more. Still, it’s quite likely that people will be attracted to this phone as a statement piece. It looks great, feels good in the hand, and is still pretty high-end. It’s a worthy improvement over the Nokia 8, but of course we’ll reserve final judgment till we can review this phone in depth for ourselves, so stay tuned to Gadgets 360.

HMD’s Nokia clearly remembers the brands heritage, but it also understands today’s realities, so when the company decided to design a new dream phone, it had to wed modern technologies with fine materials and style, not squeeze something outdated into a beautiful chassis covered with gold or, say, titanium.

The Nokia 8 Sirocca undoubtedly looks like an elegant and impressive follow-up to last year's Nokia 8. We have some slight concerns about the fact that it's using a last-gen processor, but this should also result in a slightly better battery life than if Nokia had opted for a more recent chip.

HMD Global is positioning the Nokia 8.1 as an upper midrange device. However, the company has priced the 8.1 at €400 (~$456), which puts it in the sights of last year's flagships. Read on to see what the Nokia 8.1 offers in the face of strong opposition.

Even if it took over 7 months for HMD Global to officially bring the Nokia 8.1 to the Philippines, their mid-range offering remains to be competitive against its rivals with its PureDisplay screen, Snapdragon 710 processor, and dual Zeiss cameras. While it has shortcomings with its ginormous notch and so-so gaming performance, that does not stop us from considering the Nokia 8.1 as a great follow-up to last year’s Nokia 7 Plus.

With our initial time with the phone, the Nokia 8.1 felt snappy and smooth, free of any lags even if we switch through various apps and games in between. We will be doing our usual barrage of tests that includes several games to see if the Nokia 8.1 lives up to expectations. Like all Nokia phones, the Nokia 8.1 comes with a stock, bloatware-free version of Android Pie. Being part of the Android One program, the Nokia 8.1 is guaranteed to receive Android Q and Android R in the future, along with three years of security updates.

Although released a little late in the Philippines, the Nokia 8.1 is a competent smartphone that has the guts to go up against other devices in the mid-range section. It has an impressive display, speedy CPU performance unmarred by lags, modest audio quality, Stock Android, and decent camera quality. Despite the fact that it has an outdated bar notch design, poor speaker location, a frustrating user interface, and seemingly artificial-looking selfies, it can be overlooked when you’ve got a solid performer in your hands.

If you’re after a mid range device that look like a high end phone without the price tag or after a BYO device, then the Nokia 8.1 could be a potential choice. Otherwise it might be worth looking at other Nokia devices such as the 7.1 or possibly even the Nokia 5.1 Plus for a slightly cheaper model.

There are some I can recommend the device to; obviously the Nokia fans out there, those who can’t easily access the aforementioned deals on other devices, those who can get a good price or discount, and just those who want a nice phone and may love the design regardless of the competition. However, I really must emphasise that there are perhaps better deals to be had; if I were in the market around the Nokia 8.1’s price range today I would undoubtedly buy a different device – probably a OnePlus flagship – and that’s sad. The Nokia 8.1 is a fantastic phone let down by an overreaching price tag which will sadly hold it back from the greatness it could so easily achieve were it more reasonably priced.

All that aside, this is an incredibly solid smartphone that delivers one of the best Android experiences you can get. The software is near identical to that on the Nokia 7.1, so those hunting for the least expensive way to get pure Android in a stylish package will likely still look there. But the 8.1 offers a bigger and nicer screen, much better performance and improved cameras for its extra $200, which is an attractive proposition.

HMD Global, Nokia’s parent brand, has witnessed impressive growth within the highly competitive Android smartphone market since it was founded couple of years back, which is all thanks to its amazing mid-tier and budget offerings. Expanding, HMD Global recently added Nokia 8.1 to its diverse lineup. We got some hands-on time with the new phone at its global launch event in Dubai last month but after thoroughly testing it and using it as a daily driver, here is our in-depth review.

You may be disappointed that this isn’t a true follow-up to the original Nokia 8, but the Nokia 8.1 is trying to be something different and it succeeds at exactly that. It’s a top of the mid-range phone that we found to do everyday tasks surprisingly well if not particularly majestically.

At its price, the Nokia 8.1 faces competition from mid-range flagship smartphones like the Asus Zenfone 5Z or the Pocophone F1 with a Snapdragon 845 chipset and better RAM and storage combinations, but the performance delta isn’t much for most users to compromise on the Android One experience that only the former offers – all that packed in a stylish chassis. Most people want a great phone, not just a brilliant specifications sheet.

And if you are a stock Android enthusiast, well, we daresay there will be those who will be tempted by the Xiaomi Mi A2 (review), which has better cameras although the 8.1 comfortably outguns it in terms of design and battery life. In fact, truth be told, we are not too sure if the Nokia 8.1 itself is a massive step forward from the Nokia 7 Plus (review), which remains perhaps the best phone we have seen from Nokia in its new avatar. In fact, the 8.1 falls somewhere between the 8 and the 7 Plus, with some design refinements brought to the table – and its rivals number everyone from the Moto One Power to the Mi A2 to the Poco F1 to the Honor Play to…you get the idea.

We will be unboxing the new Nokia 8.1 and sharing our initial impressions on the new high-end Android One smartphone from HMD Global which was initially launched back in December. To understand the Nokia 8.1 it is important to first begin with the smartphone it is succeeding or replacing from HMD’s current lineup. In a bid to standardize the naming convention, HMD has decided that the new Nokia 8.1 is actually a successor to the Nokia 7.1 Plus and not the Nokia 8. From this, we can relate that the new smartphone is not the brand’s premiere flagship but a high-end smartphone that sits below the flagship line — which is to be announced soon. We have the device with us and here is our complete unboxing — you can also view our unboxing video on YouTube as well.

At Rs 26,999, Nokia 8.1 does not have a lot of competition. There’s Poco F1 with superior Snapdragon 845 processor but the Xiaomi phone has cut too many corners to keep the prices low. Nokia 8.1 looks good and delivers near excellent performance. If you don’t have a budget for OnePlus 6T and don’t want to settle with a budget phone, Nokia 8.1 is worth investing.

The Nokia 8.1 caters to a mid-range buyer and aims to provide a true mid-range smartphone. One that delivers a better camera, better video recording and a brand-new chipset in a package that has been designed to delight. Oh, and did I mention stock Android and faster software updates thanks to the Android One program? The Nokia 8.1 seems to have it all.

Nokia 8.1 is an impressive device by all accounts. The performance is smooth, the camera delivers pleasing photos in most scenarios, while the battery life should keep most users happy. There are very little flaws here, except that HMD Global has only introduced one variant with the base 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The Nokia 8 is no longer a flagship product and if you can digest that, you will be pleasantly surprised by how good this mid-ranged phone is. It has a good screen and camera, performs quite well and lasts you more than a day on a full charge. And it doesn't break the bank doing so.

This phone can be seen as an upgrade over the usual low-cost options in terms of its material and construction quality, style, display, and cameras – the latter in the daytime, at least. Some users might also be willing to pay a little more for the Nokia name. There is a lot to like about the Nokia 8.1, but most of the things that give it its appeal can also be found in phones that cost much less.

The Nokia 8.1 takes the elements that made the Nokia 7 Plus great, while offering much-needed upgrades as we head into 2019. The Snapdragon 710 ensures there's no shortage of power, the 3500mAh battery easily delivers over a day's worth of use, and the camera holds its own in this segment.

The Nokia 8.1 may bother consumers who feel that competition like the Poco F1 offers a flagship-level chipset for much lower. But the SD710 chipset handles real-world performance as smooth as a flagship phone, and you get the added benefit of a better design language as well. The Zeiss optics marginally improves low-light camera performance, but the cameras are largely impressive. To top it off, HMD has priced the Nokia 8.1 at an incredibly competitive price of Rs 26,999.

To conclude, the Nokia 8.1 is a pretty interesting device to watch for. The phone features a premium design and display looks sharp. The hardware is up to the mark and the software gives pure stock Android experience. As for the competition is concerned, the phone will face a stiff competition from the likes of Vivo V11 Pro and more.

The Nokia 8.1 is a no-brainer. It does not rely on gimmicks or fads to try and woo you. At its core, this is a phone that focusses on the essentials and delivers a great camera, good performance, excellent battery life and an absolutely clean build of Android with a promise of long-term support. Priced at Rs. 26,999, the phone offers tremendous value for money and is highly recommended if you’re looking for a new smartphone in the sub Rs. 30,000 segment.

The Nokia 8.3 5G arrives with some delay, and unfortunately, this is also noticeable on the phone with which Nokia wants to shake up the upper class: In this way, there is no 90 Hz display and no Wi-Fi 6. At least the smartphone is 5G capable and classy, but is that enough?

The Nokia 8.3 5G shows very few frame drops at 30 fps and 60 fps, and our testers observed no frame drops when playing video games, but motion blur is very visible. Touch is mostly accurate on the entire display surface, but the device lacks smoothness. While the Nokia 8.3 5G ignores ghost touches on its edges in portrait orientation, it does not do so when in landscape mode. Further, aliasing is quite visible when playing video games. But the device manages judder well at 24, 30, and 60 fps, and is flicker-free.

A decent price for some excellent hardware and software should make the Nokia 8.3 5G a better option than it feels like. But other phones like the Pixel 5, OnePlus 8 and Galaxy S20 FE offer more for the same price.

An all-around great value for money mid-range phone, the Nokia 8.3 5G just happens to also boast support for all existing 5G bands, which is something that most flagship phones don't even do. Even if you don't care for 5G, at R13 999 (RRP), you're getting a supremely well put together mobile device.

HMD Global, the owners of the Nokia smartphone brand, has shown some laudable willingness to experiment with the imaging technologies of its phones at the high end (even if the results can be mixed). But in the mid-range Nokia 8.3 5G, the company goes for a traditional camera configuration that looks fairly good on paper but fails to impress in practice. While potentially interesting as a reasonably powerful phone with 5G and a pure Android OS uncluttered by manufacturer modifications, imaging is not a particular strength of the Nokia when compared to the competition.

While a bit more expensive than 5G options from brands like Motorola, it feels like it’s worth the extra money with a solid build quality, better photography experience, and a better software experience with longer promised update tail. Nokia’s continued delivery of the Android One program makes the 8.3 5G worthy of consideration.

The Nokia 8.3 5G is a competent mid-range phone that gets pretty much all the basics right. The only downside is that it targets a very busy space in the market full of handsets with more developed feature sets, like the Pixel 5 and Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro.

The Nokia 8.3 5G is Nokia's one and only flagship offering for the U.S. this year, and unfortunately, it's too little too late for the company. This isn't a terrible phone by any means — offering good performance, long battery life, and a striking design — but it just doesn't hold up to the rest of the competition. You could buy the Nokia 8.3 5G and have a decent time with it, but when you can spend the same amount or less money for a vastly better alternative, it's hard to make an argument in Nokia's favor.

There’s a specific sort of user that’ll enjoy the Nokia 8.3 5G. This device is also set for release with Verizon in a slightly different configuration – mostly to enable mmWave 5G – with the device called “Nokia 8 V 5G UW”. Barring unforeseen tweaking done to that phone by Verizon, this review should serve as a basic preview for that phone, too. The Nokia 8.3 5G is a great smartphone. It looks great and it feels great. Its value is based in simplicity mixed with forward-aimed connectivity and guarantees for quality in both hardware and software (with the updates to boot!) This configuration of the Nokia 8.3 5G was priced at around $700 USD when this review was first published.

The Nokia 8.3 has much to like and I believe firmly holds its ground against others in this tier and price range. While not the cheapest 765G chipset phone out there, it’s also not the most expensive either. I would suggest opting for the 8GB/128GB model just for that extra oomph and if you need more storage, invest in an SD Card, which are very cheap these days.

Also, while it’s unfair to compare a £500 phone to a £1,200 one, I did notice the fluidity of moving through the app ecosystem wasn’t as good as my normal iPhone 11 Pro and the screen did jerk a few times as I tried to snappily and speedily change from one app to the other in quick succession.

The Nokia 8.3 5G isn’t the most exciting phone you’ll read about this year, but with strong specs and a large screen there’s plenty here to appeal to those looking to upgrade to 5G with a handset that won’t break the bank. That said, a meager storage offering and an annoying Google Assistant button mean it’s not a device without its frustrations.

Ultimately, we can’t recommend the Nokia 8 V. It just delivers too little bang for the buck. $700 buys you Google’s Pixel 5 (also with mmWave 5G support), or Samsung’s Galaxy S20 SE (with a Snapdragon 865 and telephoto shooter). Both pack far better cameras (with OIS), wireless charging, and water resistance (IP68). We want Nokia to succeed, but for this to happen, it needs to step up and compete. Instead, this time, it stumbled.

The Nokia 8 V 5G offers a nice, big screen and a very good ultrawide angle camera in a phone that works with Verizon’s 5G coverage. But it’s hard to recommend this phone over the iPhone 12 mini, Pixel 5 or other $699 phones.

Had the 8 V 5G hit the market six months ago, our rating would likely have been quite different. Instead it comes up against similarly priced phones, including the Apple iPhone 12 Mini, Google Pixel 5, and Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, that offer a number of features you won’t find on Nokia’s latest flagship. If it were something as simple as an LCD versus an OLED display that would be one thing, but the 8 V 5G lacks an IP rating, Android One, competitive cameras, and even wireless charging. Nokia phones have typically offered a lot of value for their price, but the 8 V 5G just doesn’t add up.
