Reviews for the Oppo Find X3 Pro
The Find X3 Pro is Oppo's answer to the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra; therefore, it offers a high-end smartphone that breaks new ground especially in terms of the camera. Some improvements have been made compared to the predecessor, but our review also reveals some minor setbacks.

How’s that for a flagship then? The Oppo Find X3 Pro is yet another high-priced tour-de-force and a further example that there’s absolutely no need to stick with the mainstream to get your flagship fix. If you’re willing to take a step off the well-trodden path, you’ll be rewarded with the very best Android can muster, bar none. Of course, it isn’t an entirely faultless handset. In my view, Oppo would have done well to undercut the starting price of the iPhone 12 Pro, at least by a tiny bit, in order to boost the appeal of the Find X3 Pro. More attention should have been paid to battery life, too, rather than simply relying on fast charging speeds. But if you’ve got the money, and you aren’t spending long trips away from the wall socket, then the Oppo Find X3 Pro is still a mighty fine flagship indeed.

Oppo’s 2021 flagship didn’t come cheap at launch, retailing for a rather pricey €1,149 at first. The phone has been on sale for €100 to €200 cheaper on the likes of Amazon, but it’s still evidently priced as a premium flagship. Fortunately, it still brings plenty of premium extras, such as fast wired/wireless charging, a top-notch OLED screen, and a unique, water-resistant design. It’s not a total hit though, as that microscope camera is fun but clearly in need of improving, while the lack of a periscope camera is particularly disappointing given that rival devices offer this or even two telephoto cameras.

Oppo are an upcoming company who hit the UK a few years ago, they made a big splash with small well positioned adverts at Wimbledon and other such events. Of course all this would mean nothing if their phones were not up to scratch. This is one of a range of recently released offerings.

Overall, this is one beastly phone with a very sleek and understated design, and I don't think anyone picking it up would be disappointed in its feature-set. You're getting one of the best screens, battery life, performance, and camera capabilities on any smartphone on the market right now. This device is an excellent option if you want a phone that has every possible feature you would want on your device.

The Oppo Find X3 Pro isn’t an easy smartphone to recommend. With all that Oppo’s flagship does right, including its brilliant display, plentiful customization settings, and excellent cameras, its expensive price tag will turn many people away who will look for a more affordable flagship with similar specs. However, the Find X3 Pro does a brilliant job at offering premium features in a thin and beautiful handheld device, especially when its bright and vivid display is on. If you’re not a fan of caviar but on the hunt for a similar tasting dish, look no further than the OnePlus 9 Pro.

The main thing I’m left wondering about is the price-tag. As good as this phone is, I think £1099 is a lot to ask of UK buyers, particularly when Oppo doesn’t have the same brand recognition as Samsung on these shores. The S21 Ultra, for instance, is similarly specced-out and is also very similarly priced on Amazon right now. Oppo has clearly tried to give itself a differentiating factor with its microlens camera, but personally I wouldn’t see it swaying me one way or the other. It’s a really cool feature for sure, but at the end of the day the novelty does wear off and you find yourself using it less and less. At least, that was the case for me. Regardless, Oppo has made a highly impressive flagship with the Find X3 Pro and I think the company will have a lot to say in the flagship Android smartphone conversation going forward. Ultimately I think the high price may just prevent this phone getting into as many pockets as it might otherwise have, but it’s still an excellent choice that does little wrong.

The sole bright spot was volume: the Find X3 Pro is loud enough and it’s intelligible at minimum volume. As a recording device, the Oppo Find X3 Pro fares much better, comparing well with other ultra-premium devices and with its brand forerunner. It produced good tonal balance overall, good dynamics, and also did well in the spatial attribute, with good wideness in life video and the meeting use case. The loudness in life video was also a strong point. In both video apps, overall sound is slightly muffled with a lack of treble and prominent low midrange. In many use cases, dynamics were impacted by some strange compression behavior, especially in the high SPL scenario.

The Oppo Find X3 Pro measures up well against the competition for the most part, scoring well in readability (which is ultimately the most important measure of utility for a smartphone display) but also earning praise for its smooth touch, which made the experience of using it a pleasure. Lighting transitions were well managed overall, and the device does a good job of adapting to the color space of visual content, thus increasing fidelity. On the downside, it could be a bit brighter when used outside and in direct sunlight. And the Find X3 Pro has some shortcomings when it comes to video playback with HDR10 content. It’s not bright enough, and there are problems with the management of contrast and color that do affect the viewing experience.

The Oppo Find X3 Pro is the brand’s top-end flagship for 2021, built to compete with the best high-end devices, and with a price that positions it in the ultra-premium segment. Phone features include a 6.7-inch AMOLED QHD+ display with 120 Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage, and fast 65W SuperVOOC charging. As you’d expect, this ultra-premium device comes equipped with plenty of cameras, too. There’s a quad-cam on the rear, including a 50 MP standard-wide main camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide, a 13 MP tele-lens module for 5x “hybrid optical zoom” shots, and a 3 MP microscope camera (not covered by our test protocol).

Of course, tie-breakers for the buyer would rely on brand allegiances and the perceived value they get out of the phone. After all, Samsung has a way more advanced ecosystem for its phone, and it speaks across devices and appliances. Oppo doesn't really have that going for the Find X3 Pro, which may play to its favour since it doesn't feel as overwhelming as a Samsung entire ecosystem. To give it another analogy, if we bought the Find X3 Pro now, we'd likely never regret the purchase - and that's considering it's still early in the 2021 Android phone fight. The Oppo Find X3 Pro officially retails at S$1,599 with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Available colours are Blue and Gloss Black. The Poco X3 Pro is for Android gamers or power users on a budget, with near-flagship processing power in one of the cheapest phones on the market. It's big, it's bulky, and the camera's not great - but it’s still astonishing that Xiaomi has pulled this off.

While the Find X3 Pro can't be called a "two-day" phone in terms of battery life, it has one of the fastest charging systems on a phone out there, with a 65W wired charger that fills up the battery in under 30 minutes (you read that right), and 30W wireless charging abilities that take just 80 minutes to do the same. Compare that with the two hours it takes Apple to charge the smaller 12 Pro Max battery with a cable, and you'll immediately appreciate Oppo's efforts to shake up the industry with the Find X3 Pro in more ways than one.

Overall, the only problem that kind of impacts us a bit in our experience is the protection and the not-so-competitive 4500mAh battery. Although they did compensate the smaller battery with 65W fast charging, still, if it has the latest Gorilla Glass Victus it will surely assure the protection of its display and stunning design.

We go hands-on with the OPPO Find X3 Neo, the more affordable flagship in OPPO's lineup for 2021. It's actually a rebranded version of the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ that launched in China at the end of 2020, and it packs a Snapdragon 865, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It also has a 50MP camera that's the same as the Find X3 Pro.

All in all, the OPPO Find X3 Pro isn’t the purest thoroughbred of the bunch. But its solid performance in the display and internal hardware department, as well as its refreshing design deservingly earned it a spot among the top 2021 flagship offerings thus far. Its unique selling point, the microscope camera, is nothing more than just a gimmick at the end of the day. However, it does make room for some fun and interesting photo opportunities which are not offered by any other smartphone of its class. Indeed, the premium price tag makes the Find X3 Pro a tough smartphone to recommend. But if you’re looking for a straightforward handset with a sleek design, incredibly light weight, exceptional hardware performance and a fun imaging setup; then do consider this new OPPO flagship.

With a sleek and stylish design unlike anything else on the market coupled with its powerhouse innards, the Oppo Find X3 Pro is an amazing bit of engineering. This, along with a great quad camera setup, super fast charging capabilities and responsive UI makes this smartphone one to watch this year. Yes, this phone is let down somewhat by the selfie camera offering and an average battery life as well as being on the expensive side - costing a whole £200 more than its predecessor at launch - but it’s an exceptional phone for the money that won’t leave you disappointed.

If you ask yourself what you want in an overall experience in a smartphone, it probably adds up to a pretty display, a great camera, and fast performance (that's why I format my reviews in those categories). A sexy design might be on the list, but a lot of people write that off because they use a case. The Find X3 Pro nails all of those categories, and it even goes above and beyond in some places, such as adding that microscope lens that's not even a little practical.

Performance is mostly where it needs to be. Everyday tasks are smooth and enjoyable on the high-speed display, and you won’t notice any stuttering or lags from the UI. Gaming performance is held back just a touch unless you proactively switch on high performance mode. I wish all the horsepower were available all the time. Battery life is solid considering the high-powered processor and mid-sized 4,500mAh power cell. The main camera gets the job done, even if the ancillary lenses don’t.

Ten years ago, Leonardo started the Find journey with an OPPO phone with a full-slidable keyboard. At that time, the best Android phone in the industry was the moto Milestone. OPPO was just a newcomer and the idea of making a phone. I want everything. The conclusion is the original Find (X903) appearance, very straight and fierce, not at all like the OPPO that made the smile music phone.

For the longest time, the OPPO Find lineup has been more about Finding innovation than restraint. The Find 7 wowed many of us with its specs and QuadHD display for the time. The Find X was.. Well, crazy.. It took design and motorized cameras more seriously than any other, and then the Find X2 Pro didn't just go Periscopic.. But also taught the new kids how to do it in a compact body. There's never been anything conventional about them, so of course it creates this sort of expectation of another vanguard phone for 2021.

On paper, the display on the OPPO Find X3 Pro may not seem like much of an upgrade over last year’s. However, in absolute terms, it is an upgrade, and overall it’s an excellent display that fixes many of the issues of last year’s model. The new LTPO panel provides an adaptive refresh rate solution that saves more battery, and it prevents color tint differences when the panel switches between refresh rates. The peak brightness remains the same, but its change in tone map behavior allows the Vivid profile to remain more legible than the X2 Pro when viewed outside.
