Reviews for the Oppo Realme U1
MediaTek's new SoC, the Helio P70, finds its first customer in the Realme U1. The Realme U1 comes across as a capable mid-range smartphone under ₹10,000 (~$145) that aims to please most users. Does the Realme U1 have the guts to take on some of the other prominent players in this space? More importantly, how well does it harness the power of MediaTek's new mid-range offering? Let's find out in this detailed hands-on review.

Starting at Rs. 11,999 for the 3+32GB variant, the Realme U1 has its raw performance going for it along with its selfie-taking capabilities, but it falls short in terms of the rear cameras and user experience. For Rs. 1,000 more, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 offers a chipset of equal caliber, better cameras, a humongous 5000mAh battery and stock android which provides a much better overall experience. If you can get used to the UI and compromise on the rear camera quality, the Realme U1 is a solid performer, and also a great example that MediaTek can produce chipsets that go head to head with those from Qualcomm.

The Realme U1 is great for those looking to buy a well-designed phone which offers good performance, good selfies and is fine with some average battery life. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro performs at par with the U1 but takes the cake thanks to its better performance when it comes to clicking good photographs even when the light is low — something where the Realme U1, as well as the Honor 8C, are way behind.

Starting from Rs 11,999, the Realme U1 is is a good-looking device with an impressive camera and a powerful processor. The Realme U1 misses out on a few things like the low-light performance of its front as well as rear camera and video stabilization but has a powerful processor, good battery life, a sharp display and takes good pictures in daylight.

The Realme U1 marks the debut of a brand new series from Realme. The company has had a great start and wants to close the year on a high note with the selfie-centric U1. The phone promises a few unique features, much like past Realme phones. The 25MP selfie camera and Helio P70 chipset are the biggest highlights here, and they don't disappoint. The added bonus is that you also get a phone that looks great, with a display that is probably one of the best in this segment.

There’s no doubt that Realme U1 is a direct competitor to the newly launched Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Honor 8X. The price of the phone, coupled with its performance and features make it a viable alternative to the Xiaomi device, which tends to generate a lot of hype. This is a promising phone with little flaws. For those who are not hesitant to try out a new brand and want a good selfie camera at a budget, Realme U1 does live up to the claim.

A very good buy this Realme U1, camera quality is excellent but when you compare that with Redmi Note 6 Pro you will like the Redmi camera better. So all depends on your usage and which parameter you want to give more weightage, accordingly you can either go with U1 or the Note 6 Pro.

If you are a Realme fan and you have 1 or 2 Pro - there is no need to switch. But if you are in the market for a new smartphone and you are on the budget, the Realme U1 is one of the best offers you can buy in India today. It has an insane bang for buck ratio, as Realme likes to make them, and impresses with design, screen, performance, and selfies. If those are the things that matter to you - look no further.

The Realme U1 is a real mixed bag of a smartphone. While the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset that powers it allows the phone to breeeze through most daily tasks, it does falter when it comes to heavy gaming. The camera performance is impressive, but does not offer any customisation options. The battery life is good enough to get you through the day. The Realme U1 is a decent phone, but the 4GB variant will struggle eventually.

The Realme U1 misses out a few things like video stabilisation, and the low-light performance of its front as well as rear cameras is average at best. On the other hand, it does have many upsides such as a powerful processor, good battery life, a sharp display, and nice aesthetics. It also takes good pictures in daylight, which makes it worth recommending.
