Reviews for the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G

It's hard to find a mid-range device that balances the smartphone experience well, but the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G does a pretty good job. While performance and camera quality fall behind in some areas, the rest of the phone is good (especially that gorgeous screen) for the price. Of course, if you're going to buy this phone, you're probably also looking at phones like the Pixel 8a or the excellent OnePlus 12R, which hover around the same price. The screen quality on either isn't as nice as the A35, and you won't get a two-day battery life. The cameras are comparable (besides the Pixel 7a, which knocks the socks off the A35 and the 12R). All in all, I think the A35 is a good pickup. It's not perfect, but if you can live with its quirks, I think you'll dig it. Editor's Note: Amazon Prime Day deals are officially over, so we've updated this page to reflect the new pricing.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 shows that you can get a nice camera phone, for not a lot of money. It looks great, performs well enough, and gives a good main camera, and a good selfie camera. The inclusion of an ultra-wide-angle camera is nice, and the results are good, but I’d really love the 3rd camera to be a telephoto camera rather than a 5MP macro camera. Even an 8MP telephoto camera would be nice to see, something with a 3x telephoto camera would be great. But I suppose that’s where the S series comes in, and if you want, you could look at the S22 or S23 for improved camera options. If you shop around, you can find a cheap one on the second-hand or renewed market. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A35 delivers a very good set of cameras, with the main camera and selfie camera performing well, and the ultra-wide-angle camera putting in a reasonable performance, even though it’s “only” 8MP.

From that first day of testing the Galaxy A35 in that dark San Francisco restaurant to making it my travel companion in Chicago to using it in my day-to-day communications, I've been consistently pleased with the performance of everything from the camera to the display. I've enjoyed revisiting the Samsung ecosystem, and exploring how this device stacks up against other budget phones like the Pixel 8A, but also flagship devices I've spent more time with. I was curious to see what I'd have to compromise with a lower price tag. My overall takeaway is that you can't shave off several hundred dollars without cutting a few corners; images won't always be as sharp as what you'll get with a $1,000-plus phone and the materials the frame is made of will be more cost-efficient.

Samsung Galaxy A35 5G struggled in most of our battery tests, particularly in autonomy, and was unable to outperform its predecessor, the Galaxy A34 5G. When used moderately, the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G provided a bit more than two days of autonomy, which is below average in our database. Still, the device’s autonomy was noteworthy when navigating in outdoor conditions, and autonomy was particularly great during gaming and idling. However, for other indoor use cases, the autonomy performances were average. Moreover, the autonomy was relatively poor when listening to music, browsing social apps, and calling when on the go. With a 25W wired charger, the battery’s charging time was longer than average, taking more than 1 hour and a half to fully replenish the battery.

The Galaxy A35 5G is easily Samsung's best budget phone of 2024. It offers the reliable software experience and customization options we've come to expect of the flagship Galaxy S series. Although it misses out on powerful Galaxy AI features, the Galaxy A35 5G will still receive several years of updates, and its durable Gorilla Glass Victus Plus construction means it should stand the test of time better than its Galaxy A siblings.

The Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 are equipped with decent cameras and processors, but are these the best midrange smartphones you can buy today? The answer depends on what you need from your smartphone. Subjectively speaking, these are good-looking smartphones that are promised to receive Android OS updates for four years and an additional year of security updates. It's also good to see an IP67 rating on these phones, and battery performance is excellent, even though Samsung has stuck with support for 25W charging and doesn't include an adapter in the box. On the other hand, if you want a smartphone with raw performance, you're better off looking at the Nothing Phone 2 (Review), OnePlus 12R (Review), or the iQoo Neo 9 Pro (Review) instead of the Galaxy A55.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 is a smartphone designed for people who want the finest tech from South Korea’s favorite phone company, but can’t stomach the hefty price tag often demanded by the best Samsung phones. By ‘finest tech’ I of course refer to the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Sammy’s recent line of flagship phones, which come with a cost that's north of my monthly rent. Thankfully, people who prefer their cheap phones can still enjoy some of the best Galaxy tech thanks to the A35. If you’re new to the Galaxy A range, it’s Samsung’s step-down line compared to the flagship Galaxy S range (though not as far down as the M or J series, available in some countries). The ‘3’ in the title refers to the phone’s place in the sliding scale of premiumness – ‘0’ is super-cheap, and higher numbers get incrementally better – while the ‘5’ tells you that this is part of the fifth generation of Galaxy A mobiles (well, at least since Samsung started this numbering system).

The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G offers a lot for your money. It has a spacious and high-quality OLED display with a fast refresh rate, great speakers, excellent battery life and it can take great photos, especially if you stick to the main and selfie cameras. The Samsung badge also gives some reassurance about the device’s quality and customer support, as well as having the joint-longest software support promise in this price range. However, it’s not all perfect. The large uneven bezel on the display and stuttering animations in the OS are regular reminders of this phone’s budget price point. I think other brands are doing a better job of giving similarly priced phones a more premium feel. The Poco X6 Pro is a good example, it’s slightly more expensive, but has nice slim bezels, super speedy performance and looks fancier in its signature yellow colourway – if that’s your kind of thing.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G's 50MP camera is surprisingly decent for this price point, only faltering when the lighting is very dim - otherwise you'll get crisp, attractive looking photos. Gaming on Genshin Impact also worked well, despite the limited performance. Battery life is good too, with the Samsung A35 lasting all day quite happily even with plenty of use. Samsung has slapped a crisp and punchy Super AMOLED screen and stereo speaker setup on the Galaxy A35 5G, so movie fans should be happy enough. And that design is bright and colourful too, with a small selection of different colours on offer.

The Galaxy A35’s solid performance in our review has stopped us grumbling about the Galaxy A55’s no-show in the U.S. as it’s a good, reasonably priced phone. In the regions where you can buy one or the other, which should you get? The Galaxy A35 is the better phone to hold due to its design, and it will return more than enough performance for general use unless you play a lot of games. If you don’t care about games or reaching the end of day two with some battery life remaining, you can buy the Galaxy A35 instead of the Galaxy A55 with confidence. While the Galaxy A35 isn’t a standout smartphone you’ll lust after, it is very close to the Galaxy A54 in its performance and ability. However, it doesn’t quite have the desirable snappy response we want from a modern phone, which the Galaxy A55 is better at delivering.

With premium looks, a durable build, and capable cameras, the Samsung Galaxy A35 is an excellent value at $399.99. And Samsung's multiyear software update commitment mostly makes up for the missing mmWave 5G support. The Google Pixel 7a remains our Editors' Choice winner because it packs more RAM, offers faster 5G, and takes more natural-looking photos, but it costs $100 more. So whether you're shopping on a fixed budget or you prefer Samsung's software experience, the Galaxy A35 is a worthwhile alternative. If you're looking to spend even less, the Galaxy A25 is our top pick for low-cost phones, though it isn't quite as sleek or durable.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G has a retail price of PHP 20,990 for the 8GB RAM+256GB ROM configuration here in the Philippines. There IS a 128GB storage option that is officially available exclusively when purchasing a unit from Globe Telecom or Smart Communications. And if you ask me, the phone is sick! At less than 25,000 pesos, the Galaxy A35 is definitely worth considering at this budget. We get an amazing display and speaker system for media consumption, good-enough rear and selfie camera picture quality, good battery life, and an almost-complete One UI experience (because of the lack of Dex); –But then again, that truly isn’t a deal-breaker unless you literally can’t do your work without Dex. Although, if you’re happy with everything from the A35 but wished for a bit more power and slightly better build materials; Without hitting a PHP 30,000 budget, you should definitely take a look at the A35’s bigger brother, the Galaxy A55 5G 41.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 is a good option at the sub-£350 price point. It’s a little cheaper than the Galaxy A34 5G before it, but it makes some welcome improvements to its performance and camera. It’s not the most exciting phone even within its affordable category, lacking the stand-out design of the Nothing Phone (2a) or the Motorola Edge 40 Neo. However, there’s something reassuringly solid about its look and feel, especially as it resembles some of its more expensive brothers so closely. Performance is good enough, particularly when it comes to the CPU. Though this is no gaming powerhouse, meanwhile, the Galaxy A35 5G can run long with such intensive tasks and not break a sweat. Battery life, too, is very good.

We can easily recommend the Galaxy A35 5G if you are looking for a budget phone that is capable at shooting nice photos and video. This is arguably the best affordable mid-range phone you will find on the market as far as camera performance goes. You also get a well-rounded package for enjoying any type of media, in the form of a gorgeous display that leaves nothing to be desired and two speakers capable of good audio quality. Making it even better is the long battery life of the A35, which only means you can enjoy the phone more before having to plug it in to a charger. Something that kind of stuck with us were the UI stutters that happened every now and then, something affordable Galaxy phones are known for, but it wasn't to the extent that it got annoying. An alternative to the Galaxy A35 5G that you might also want to check out is the Pixel 7a, which also comes with an amazing main camera.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 is similar to last year's Galaxy A25, but that phone was $100 cheaper. Phones like the Pixel 7a, which offers better hardware and software across the board, go on sale for as low as $350, and you only need to spend $100 more to get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered OnePlus 12R. However, impressive battery life, an OLED display, and good cameras mean the phone can perform adequately in all areas. If you use your phone for a little bit of everything, it's a good choice. However, power users wanting to save money are best sticking with a Pixel phone or Galaxy S series on sale. The Galaxy A35's $400 price tag is a tough pill to swallow for only minor improvements from last year. However, the battery life and display are among the best of any budget Android phone.

Like I said from the start, the Pixel 7a should be afraid because the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G offer a compelling package for less than $400. Apart from its rainbow shimmer, Samsung's phone doesn’t win any style points from me, but I’m hopeful that it over delivers in key areas where the Galaxy A54 underperformed. Going back to its pricing, it helps to diversify Samsung’s lineup when its S24 flagship series covers the $800-and-up range. Not everyone needs the latest or greatest, nor do they want to shell out a whole lot either. That’s why budget phones like the Galaxy A35 5G exist to fill that gap. I just hope the Galaxy A35 can live up to the reputation established by the Galaxy A54 last year, seeing that Samsung has targeted this phone as the A54's replacement, at least for U.S. shoppers.

However, the company also has a strong presence in the mid-range smartphone market through its Galaxy A series, offering consumers high-quality devices at more affordable price points. With premium looks and feel, the Galaxy A35 can be an option for individuals who prioritise design. Beyond its striking appearance, the smartphone has a good display, a modest imaging system, and a lasting battery. It is, however, not the smartphone to consider for performance.

By far the biggest problem for the Galaxy A35 5G is the sheer number of brilliant affordable smartphones on the market. With sizable discounts cropping up across Google’s older Pixel handsets, and other keen competitors from Nothing and Xiaomi circling eagerly, the sub-£400 challengers are anything but few and far between. Nevertheless, the Galaxy A35 5G strikes a supremely sensible middle ground for its price. Performance is merely adequate, but battery life, camera quality and the overall build are above average. With the welcome reassurance of OS updates guaranteed until 2028, it’s a great little package – it’s just a shame that the performance qualms see it stop tantalisingly short of greatness.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 is a reliable choice at ₹30,999. The phone impressed me with its stellar camera performance, smooth UI, and immersive display. There are a lot of niceties on offer as well such as Gorilla Glass Victus+ display protection, 4 years of OS updates, 4K video recording on the rear and selfie cameras, and a solid build. For those who don’t covet performance over everything else, the Galaxy A35 is one of the best all-rounders you can get your hands on at a relatively pocket-friendly price. However, the lack of HDR support for the display and the absence of a charging brick in the box dock away some of its points. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy A35 is not suitable for gamers as the chipset doesn’t handle High Graphics gaming too well. The Samsung Galaxy ‘A’ series is one of the most coveted series of smartphones in the mid-range to high-end segment.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 is an easy phone to recommend to most people. Its display looks fantastic, the battery lasts ages, and the cameras hold up strongly alongside more expensive devices. Four years of operating system upgrades plus five years of security updates certainly doesn’t hurt either. You’d only really need to spend more if you want best-in-class night photography, maybe a telephoto lens, and enough power to play the most demanding games. Otherwise, the Galaxy A35 is an all-around phone at an even better price.

If you’re more into premium and robust design, the best performance, and cameras with slightly higher resolution, the Galaxy A55 will be a great buy, as it has everything Samsung currently offers in its mid-range price range. However, if you’re looking for a more affordable option that also offers modern design, solid performance, and almost the same cameras, the Galaxy A35 is the better buy, especially for £100 less in the UK. And if you live in the US, the choice is even more obvious, as the A55 is not available there. However, looking at the fact that the A54 can now be bought for £15 less than the A35, I’d much rather recommend this model if you’re ok with it already being one life into is software support lifespan.

Samsung Galaxy A35 is a safe, proven choice if you need a smartphone for 14-15 thousand UAH. The novelty does not offer anything extraordinary, the technical specifications are acceptable on paper, no more. However, the device has a design in the style of flagships, stable software that will be updated for at least four more years, IP67 protection, and a good main camera. All this together makes for a pretty good product that is definitely worth paying attention to when choosing a new smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G is designed for those who want a modern smartphone experience without breaking the bank. I would tell you to spend a little extra for the better build quality and newer chip, but since this one doesn’t have any issues with the fingerprint scanner and the performance difference isn’t day and night, this might be the better buy. After all, it’s a midrange smartphone with a solid value proposition at RM1,699.

Although Samsung has mainly integrated cosmetic improvements in the Galaxy A35, I think the 2024 upgrade is quite successful! While you still have to accept some compromises in terms of workmanship and design when buying the A34, the A35 gives you a case that is almost as good as the more expensive A55. Although Samsung has dispensed with a metal frame here, this is not really noticeable in everyday use. The display on the A35 is really good. With its size of 6.6", it is big enough for Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube, while the new punch-hole notch looks even more modern. Together with the large battery, this makes the A35 a multimedia pro, even if the internal mono speaker was less convincing in the test. As Samsung also uses the processor from last year's Galaxy A54, this year's phone is also really well suited for mobile games.

The Galaxy A35's performance will satisfy most users, the display is excellent, the main camera can take nice pictures, the battery lasts all day long, the design is premium, and you're getting Android 14 and One UI 6.1 out of the box with a promise of five years of updates. This phone is what you would call the reasonable choice. It's not nearly as exciting as the Galaxy A55, but for the asking price, it's an easy recommendation.

An alternative to the Galaxy A35 5G that you might also want to check out is the Pixel 7a, which also comes with an amazing main camera. What would be the better decision, however, is to wait for the Pixel 8a, which is expected to arrive sometime this May, so very soon. It will probably have similar performance and display quality, but might come with even better battery life and some Google AI features. Also, it's software is straight-up vanilla Android, which might be more up some people's alley. Another one you can check out that's freshly released is the Nothing Phone (2a), which comes with a display that is somehow even better thanks to its higher brightness and thinner bezels (although less durable). It also has the Mediatek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor which is built on the 4nm process and is—generally speaking—a more capable chipset. And, of course, we can't forget the much faster 45W wired charging.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 is a midrange phone that offers good bang for the buck. The modest price tag nets you a well rounded smartphone that features a quality 120Hz Super AMOLED display, decent performance for general use, stereo speakers, better security via Samsung Knox Vault and good battery life. Overall, the Galaxy A35 is a compelling affordable option if you’ve been eyeing the S24 series but cannot stomach their price tags. There are a few minor niggles like the heavy build, massive bezels, and the occasional stuttering. But it’s still one of the better entry points into Samsung’s ever-growing ecosystem. Combine this with solid battery life and Samsung’s UI polish/update commitment, and you have a well-rounded device. However, it’s an increasingly crowded market and there’s no shortage of alternatives. Check the Poco X6 Pro out if the Exynos 1380’s performance is too meek for you. Or the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ which we rated highly for its camera performance.

The Galaxy A35 proves that high-numbered specs always don’t matter. The phone can easily handle day-to-day tasks, features one of the best displays in the segment, and most importantly, looks good without appearing too masculine. Even for those focused on solid battery backup, the phone won’t disappoint. Gaming-focused users may turn to the iQOO Neo 9 Pro (review) or OnePlus 12R (review), which are relatively more expensive. If you want to experience a curved display and similar Galaxy A35-like features (plus fast charging), the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (review) is a great choice. If you’re currently using a Samsung phone, considering an upgrade to the Galaxy A35 or even the Galaxy A55 could be an ideal choice. Not only do you get a dependable smartphone, but you also benefit from a comprehensive interconnectivity, (aka ecosystem), with other Samsung devices.

Then the question comes – should you buy the Galaxy A35? Honestly speaking, the retail price of RM1,699 is rather high. My advise is to not buy them at full retail price unless there are actually gifts that are useful to you, or wait for a discount as Samsung phones are perpetually going on sale anyway. Some of you also asked if the A35 can last for 4 years – and I think it can. Day-to-day usage is good, but it might not run the latest and greatest, highest-end games smoothly. Samsung has a track record of providing timely updates and combined with its software update policy, this phone is going to last for 4 years, if the phone is kept in good condition.

At Rs 30,999, the Galaxy A35 5G would definitely suit you if you need a Samsung phone and that’s about it. While it does have decent cameras, display and build quality, it does significantly fall short in terms of power, software fluidity, charging speeds, and in some cases even the display, making its competitors a better overall deal.

As budget phones go, the Galaxy A35 has a lot going for it with IP67 dust and water resistance, stereo speakers, a main camera with OIS, a huge battery with 25W fast charging and the inclusion of Samsung Knox Vault. Through our initial field tests, it has proven to be nippy, responsive and the cameras perform well too though we’ll have to put it through its paces to draw a final conclusion. In the meantime, stay tuned for our full review!

Performance-wise, the Exynos 1380 is a nice little step up from the Dimensity 1080 inside the Galaxy A34. It is perfectly adequate for the class and enough to offer a fluent One UI experience. That experience will be a big draw for a lot of people. Very few features are still relegated to Samsung's flagship models and outright missing from the Galaxy A35. Plus, the A35 comes with four years of major software updates and five years of security updates. That said, there is no point in claiming that the Galaxy A35 is the best in its class. Shopping around, you can get notably better hardware for your money. However, the Galaxy A35 remains attractive in its entirety as a package. We are sure it won't disappoint any prospective buyers.

To sum it all up, Samsung’s doubled down on its strengths in the camera, software, and design departments making the Galaxy A35 5G a pretty solid deal. Capable hardware paired with Samsung’s optimization makes it my favorite camera phone in the <50,000 segment. If you are someone who doesn’t game a lot on your phone; and cameras, reliability, and good-looking design are what you’re looking for, I wholeheartedly recommend the Galaxy A35 5G. Samsung's Galaxy A35 5G finally brings an updated design with glass back and a punch-hole AMOLED display. The main and selfie cameras spew very good looking images with Samsung's classy optimization while the everyday performance is also reliable enough. But you'll be missing out on gaming prowess, fast refills, and refined haptic feedback on the A35.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G performed very well in our display tests thanks to its good AMOLED panel. While the display specs on the A35 5G were very similar to the slightly more expensive A55 5G, some performance differences could be attributed to software optimizations. However, the A35 5G managed to outperform the A55 5G in some attributes such as color, motion, and touch. In readability, the A35 5G was able to achieve a measured peak brightness of 1620 nits in sunlight conditions, which was higher than its competitors (even those in a higher segment), and admirably quite close to the 1638 nits measured on the A55 5G. However, with the High Brightness Mode activated under sunlight, the renderings on the A35 could appear somewhat unnatural.
