The implementation of the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor to power the next generation of Galaxy AI has largely been a triumph. The manufacturer’s latest ultrabook features a leading battery life combined with a stunning display and some handy functionality for the average user at a price which is reasonable. However, if I were to weigh up between this and the MacBook Pro M3 for the same price then I would bet on Apple’s silicon instead. Both machines are ARM-based, although, the Californian company has the software to work for the hardware and not the other way around. Taken in isolation, the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge is power-efficient, gorgeous, and lightweight. If you’re looking for a more casual machine for watching movies, getting work done, or getting creative then this one ticks all the right boxes.

All things considered, if you're shopping for a laptop at this time, it may be worth sitting tight for a bit. Not only are new Snapdragon-based machines still coming to the market, but both Intel and AMD are about to launch new mobile processors within weeks, and those chips promise big performance and efficiency gains. It will be fascinating to see how Snapdragon X Elite holds up against the two-pronged assault from the x86-64 Windows juggernauts. Regardless of what comes out in the coming months, the Galaxy Book4 Edge 16 is a quality product in its own right, and for that reason, we're giving it our Recommended award. Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite is the real deal that's driving an inflection point in the PC industry, and Samsung's Galaxy Book4 Edge delivers impressive performance, a gorgeous display and excellent battery life in this class.

Just as the same suggests, this laptop is a lot like the other Samsung Galaxy Book PCs on the outside, with an AI-ready CPU injected. That means better battery life for light work, although we don't get mega improvements elsewhere and you should prepare for some minor early adopter niggles.

The Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge is a great laptop, there’s no doubt about it. The display is absolutely beautiful, the design is solid aluminum, and it’s extremely thin and light. Yet, thanks to the Snapdragon X Elite hardware, this machine can run for a very long time on a charge even while using a more power-hungry OLED screen. The big concern is the price. At $1,749, you’re paying a good amount extra for that top-end Snapdragon X Elite hardware, which doesn’t make a huge difference. Plus, since this laptop is only available with 16GB of RAM, some workloads may perform better on a Snapdragon X Elite laptop with 32GB of RAM. There are better values to be had elsewhere. You can pick up a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x with 1TB of storage and 32GB of RAM for just $1,313. That’s a lot less money for double the RAM. Yes, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is a bit smaller and it has lower-end Snapdragon X Elite hardware. But they’re pretty comparable, performance-wise. Luckily, as we’re finishing this review, this machine is already on sale.

Those two small things put a dent in the appeal of what is otherwise a very appealing laptop. It’s well made, has a fabulous screen, is fast and responsive, and battery life is still great, albeit not quite as good as I had hoped it would be. However, its rivals hold an edge over it, whether that be for pure value for money – the Asus Vivobook S 15 (S5507) offers more bang for your buck at £1,300 – or battery life, where both the Vivobook and Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 come out on top. There isn’t too much in it, though, and if you choose the Samsung over those options you’ll still be mightily impressed.
