Reviews for the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
Samsung announced the Galaxy S10 5G at MWC 19, but it has taken a while to arrive in Europe. It is bigger, has more cameras and has a larger battery than its S10 siblings, but there are some trade-offs too. Samsung has not managed to eradicate the issues we had with the rest of the S10 series, either. Read on to find out more in this detailed review.

The S10 5G really impressed us here; the build quality is phenomenal and the power under the hood is more than you could ever want. For us, this flagship might be on the pricier side, but it's the best long-term investment you'll find anywhere on the market and that is a very nice niche to champion. There's nothing else on the market that can rival the complete package that comes with the S10 5G - it's one of the best enterprise-ready devices available right now.

We had a brief, first-hand 5G experience with the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G in the city of Seoul, South Korea. It was confined to using the device at high data speeds, and the service provider was KT. Read on to find out how Samsung’s 5G implementation in South Korea felt. In case you're wondering, the unit uses Samsung's own 5G chipset.

Samsung could've easily shoehorned 5G into its existing flagship phone and called it a day. In fact, that's basically what every other manufacturer has done. But the company has done something truly different and built an entirely new handset from the ground up with an expansive new AMOLED display, more cameras than ever before, new photography effects, a bigger battery, faster charging, and more. Sure, the resulting package is pretty cumbersome and unwieldy – not to mention the fact that 5G isn't widespread anywhere near enough to be a must-have feature, but despite all that, we’re love the ambition of the Galaxy S10 5G. This handset is completely future-proof – and remarkably, it's not because of the 5G.

It's hard not to view this 6.7-inch phone as an 'S10++ with 5G'. But it's an accomplished device. Sure, the cameras aren't pretty, and the Note 10+ throws a spanner in the works, but if it's 5G you want right now then the S10 5G is the option to go for, as it's lighter and smaller than its main rivals.

The Galaxy S10 5G is a smartphone for early adopters who don’t mind paying for the privilege. Its huge display is great for videos and gaming, it’s a sleek phone despite its size, and Samsung’s UI is smooth. Just how good it is will come down to where you are, but if you want to futureproof your smartphone, you won’t find a 5G phone with more bells or whistles than the S10 5G.

Cutting-edge everything never looked this good; while 5G isn’t where it needs to be for mass adoption just yet, at least this piece of 5G hardware will have you future-proofed with sensational snaps and a stunning screen for streaming video.

As of July 2019, we don’t recommend a 5G contract given the high cost, sparse coverage and minor speed gains. Despite this, the Galaxy S10 5G is an incredible phone with class-leading design, cameras and display. One UI is Samsung’s best ever interpretation of Android, the 4500mAh battery is generous and thanks to the bezel-less design this 6.7in phone isn’t too huge. This would have been a five star phone if it weren't for the fact 5G prices simply aren't worth the expense.

The most succinct way of describing Samsung’s new S10 5G flagship phone is the S10 Plus Plus. Samsung have taken all the recipe ingredients that made the S10+ an excellent phone and modified several hardware aspects including the cameras and adding 5G capability to enhance it further. Since that’s the case we suggest you first read my colleague Duncan’s excellent review of the S10+ and then follow up with my review explaining the differences between the S10+ and the S10 5G.

The Galaxy S10 5G is a smartphone for early adopters – those who are willing to grab a new technology with both hands, and don’t mind paying for the privilege. The huge display is great for videos and gaming, but it may not realize its full potential for months.

In many ways, this is the ultimate version of Samsung's 2019 flagship device. It's got the largest screen, most cameras and biggest battery. If you're planning on fully embracing 5G this year it'll likely be one of the best picks.

Thanks to small improvements in several test categories, particularly for video, the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G has taken over the number one spot in our DxOMark Selfie ranking from its cousin, the Galaxy S10+. Most consumers considering a purchase of the S10 5G will be mainly interested in the device’s connectivity features, but selfie shooters will be very happy with Samsung’s latest top-end phone as well, thanks to a very well-balanced approach to texture rendition and noise reduction, as well as to an efficient autofocus system that ensures good subject sharpness across a wide range of shooting distances. Moreover, target exposure and color rendering leave little to complain about, all of which adds up to making the S10 5G our best-performing front camera to date.

Overall, the Galaxy S10 5G performs slightly better than the excellent S10+ in our tests. Samsung’s move to 4K default resolution for video, and a beneficial switch to using the telephoto camera for bokeh effects in portrait mode, give the 5G version a 3-point score bump to put it at the very top of all our tested mobile devices. The S10 5G also gets to claim the title of being the first smartphone to score 100 points for video. Buyers of the 5G version of the S10 may be primarily interested in its next-generation connectivity, but will get improvements to photos and videos as an additional benefit.

It obviously doesn’t make any sense to buy the Galaxy S10 5G if you live in a market where no 5G networks will be going live. If you do happen to be located in such a market and are willing to be an early adopter, you really can’t go wrong with the Galaxy S10 5G. We just hope Samsung will offer some of the 5G model’s hardware, such as the four rear cameras, on the standard Galaxy Note 10.
