What is 'enough' for a tablet, is a question potentially without end, the answer to which depends on many different use cases. The Galaxy Tab A8 is Samsung's answer to a sister question: what is 'enough' of a tablet for most people? With a colourful and bright 1080p display it ticks the screen box, its four speakers are loud and detailed, its battery life is dependable if not exceptional, it has a functional and comfortable design and mature software - all plus points, if not massive ones. The Redmi Pad has a faster higher resolution display, a more powerful processor and a nicer set of colour options, but comes with MIUI, which isn't the best, and is potentially more difficult to repair due to a lack of brick and mortar stores. The Nokia T21 has a few tricks, but a glacially slow processor that sees it struggle. Against the two, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 might not excite, but it is a mature and polished device that will be a comfortable companion for any who will have it.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 offers a pretty picture at an affordable price. Its LCD display renders anything on screen quite crisply, with vibrant colors and nice details. Additionally, features like split-screen functionality make it a great productivity tablet too. However, you get what you pay for, with its performance impacted by its hardware and limited battery capacity as compared to its more premium siblings. That said, it handles all the basics really well, and then some, while looking good doing so.

If you're in the market for a budget Android Tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is easily one of your best options. It looks good, feels sturdy, is affordable, and runs Android 13, which should be all you're asking of a tablet at only $230. Compared to other budget options, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is cheaper than Apple's budget iPad by a notable amount, and it's more powerful than the Amazon Fire Tablet HD 10, making it an ideal middle-ground option for deal-seekers who don't want to miss out on a baseline level of performance. Yes, you'll sacrifice some speed at this price, but if it fits your needs — streaming, scrolling, and low-demand gaming — you could pay more and still do worse than this tablet (like with the Nokia T20). The screen is big enough for an enjoyable viewing experience, and the performance is good enough to handle a game of Angry Birds without a problem. Simply put, this is a tablet for fun, not work, and that price tag should clarify that.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 isn’t a massive upgrade over its already great predecessor, but it didn’t need to be. This is a well-built tablet that performs admirably and is shaped just right for media streaming. The expandable storage also means you should have more than enough room for the apps, photos, and games you need most. It would be nice to see a longer commitment to Android version updates, but the two Android version commitment aligns with other affordable Android tablets, and the four years of security is beyond any competition not made by Apple. Even though the tablet’s wide footprint takes some getting used to, it becomes a fast favorite once you open Netflix or YouTube for the first time, with the 16:10 display leaving you with minimal black space on any one side. The Dolby Atmos speakers also punch well above their price tag. Granted, the cameras are nothing special, but we can’t imagine anyone relying on the Galaxy Tab A8 as a crucial part of their photography toolbox anyway.

The Galaxy Tab A8 is by no means a tour de force of a tablet, and its miserable performance standard is a particularly disappointing low note. It also won’t be the best for video calls, given the underwhelming font-facing camera, and it takes quite a long time to charge back up. However, if you’re just looking for a modestly-priced travel companion to watch videos on, or use simple apps, then you could do far worse than this one; the screen is still good enough quality to enjoy films and TV shows, and the battery life offers impressive endurance that will comfortably see you through long-distance voyages.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is another solid budget effort from the king of Android tablets. Its premium design and loud, clear sound are unusually accomplished for a very affordable price - if 32GB is enough storage for you that is. However, the tablet’s TFT display is disappointingly flat and washed out, compromising its potential as an affordable media player. The lack of reliable biometric authentication is another downer but not essential and the Tab A8 has a surprisingly excellent sound system. Performance, while far from spectacular, is perfectly adequate for a tablet of this price, and battery life is very good. It’ll take you an age to get back up to 100% from empty with the bundled charger, but that’s not such a pressing issue in the tablet world.

And so I want to ask – who should buy this Samsung Galaxy Tab A8? I think it’s mostly suitable for simple usages like email, social media browsing, YouTube, or Netflix – something along those lines. Getting this tablet for kids to attend online classes is also a very good choice. At the price of RM999, I think it’s actually fairly priced. The screen could definitely be better, but overall I think it’s a decent product. Just gotta manage your expectations when it comes to tablet prices as it is very different compared to phone prices.

While more powerful tablets are available in Samsung’s line-up like the new Galaxy Tab S8, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 makes for an affordable tablet for enjoying media on the go. It makes some modest concessions for cost but its core strengths, namely a large display, great speakers and excellent battery life remain intact along with its modest price tag. For those looking for a more compact slate, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is a more viable option and you can check out our Galaxy Tab A7 Lite review here.

At RM999, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is certainly a tablet that focuses on value. It’s not a high end performer but it should be more than adequate for productivity, web surfing, and multimedia entertainment. It has its fair share of drawbacks, such as the reflective screen and low RAM but the pros certainly outshine it enough for it to be an enticing offer. At the end of our Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 review, I award this tablet with our Silver Pokdeward.

While the Galaxy Tab A8 won’t surprise you, it’s a great multimedia tablet at the end of the day. The tablet is best to be used to watch movies, read books, browse the web or attend online classes. If you are considering buying a tablet for your kid or ageing parents, the Galaxy Tab A8 makes a lot of sense. At Rs 17,999, the Galaxy Tab A8 is way more affordable than the base iPad, but it’s limited to watching movies, browsing and reading books. But I assure you that you are not getting a raw deal.

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is a good iterative update over the Tab A7. While the latter was the best overall tablet in its price range last year, history hasn’t repeated itself this time around. Although Samsung still has an upper hand when it comes to software, brand recognition, and global availability, other Android tablet makers have started to catch up. So, it needs to bring some meaningful upgrades with the Tab A9 if it wants to stay relevant in the midrange tablet segment. That being said, there are not that many options if you look for midrange tablets in Nepal. If you have the extra cash, you can always go with the Xiaomi Pad 5, which is the undisputed winner in this product category. But if you are on a tight budget and want LTE connectivity, Galaxy Tab A8 is the way to go for now.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 10.5 (2021) is a decent mid-range tablet that costs around $260 (Rs 19,499). You are getting a tall aspect 10.5-inches TFT panel display for the primary specs that provide immersive space for your task. In contrast, the tablet also offers decent pixel density with FHD resolution on top. As for the process, you are getting a pretty standard Unisoc Tiger T618 chipset that might not have extraordinary processing powers, but it seamlessly manages the multitasking factors precisely. As for the software, the end will receive Android 11 based One UI 3.0 that works great with your daily task and offers customization features. On the other hand, the camera end only brings an 8MP primary and 5MP selfie camera at your service. With this setup, you can click decent photos and 1080p videos without any problem. In terms of internal storage, this tablet offers storage from 32GB to 128GB, accompanying 3GB to 4GB RAM support. As for the battery end, Galaxy Tab A8 renders a Li-Po 7040 mAh that equips alongside a 15W fast charging speed.
