Reviews for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5

83% Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5

All in all, the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is an excellent tablet. The screen is fabulous, performance and battery life are more than respectable, and the design is the very definition of svelte. Unfortunately for Samsung, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet offers even better performance and battery life – not to mention water-resistance. As a result, the Tab S narrowly misses out on a wholehearted recommendation.

iPad Air 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 comparison: Samsung's 10in tablet can't beat the iPad when it comes to power
Source: Tech Advisor English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
In many ways, the iPad Air 2 is the better of the two tablets here. It is the most powerful by far, so is better suited to those planning on playing games or running graphics-intensive apps. Both tablets have excellent screens, though the Tab S's is slightly better, and the same goes for the camera.

Source: Comp Reviews English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
If you want the best tablet screen on the market, then the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5-inch is no question the best available. It is just as thin and light as much of its competition and has some of the best battery life available. Having said this, there are still some issues that make this a less than perfect tablet. There are a number of performance issues that are hindered by all the software Samsung loves to put on their devices.

Samsung's copious software add-ons and UI tweaks mean that the Galaxy Tab S delivers a particular kind of Android experience. We have a few issues with some of these extras, but the slimline Galaxy Tab S is still a very impressive tablet.

The Galaxy Tab S is a great looking device, but it’s best advised to protect it with a choice of several matching and practically designed custom accessories from Samsung. The Book Cover (£49.99) is the best choice as it configures to three different display angles to provide the most comfortable position to watch videos, read or type, while a cheaper alternative is the Simple Cover (£29.99) that offers lightweight protection.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 video review: Top-end tablet rivals iPad Air and Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet
Source: Tech Advisor English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is one of the firm's best ever tablets with a thin and light design, although there is still too much plastic. Hardware is decent, namely that impressive display and great battery life making this a consumption machine. It's got pretty much everything you could want on a tablet, and it is priced competitively against its key rivals.

Source: Techtree.com English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
The GALAXY Tab S 10.5 has the best screen in the tablet segment. If you're looking for a tablet for watching videos, nothing beat the Tab S 10.5. Samsung has also done a good job at keeping the tablet's size in check. It's compact and slim. Its camera is very good compared to most tablets. However, the software is a let-down. The GALAXY Tab S 10.5, as well as the iPad Air 16 GB Cellular model cost around Rs 44,800. If you're split between these two, we would recommend the Tab S 10.5 for its display and expandable storage and iPad Air for great user experience.

Galaxy Tab S vs iPad Air head-to-head review
Source: V3.co.uk English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
With the iPad Air having one round to the Galaxy Tab S's four, the Samsung tablet is the clear winner of this head to head review. Featuring a better display, better camera and noticeably better battery life, the Galaxy Tab S is one of the finest tablets currently available. However, with four of the rounds having resulted in draws and the iPad Air remaining the more secure option, it was a closely fought battle and the Galaxy Tab S's victory isn't too surprising considering how far through its product lifecycle the Apple tablet is.

If you want a 10-inch Android tablet, yes. This is the best there is by a comfortable margin. Choosing between it and an iPad Air is trickier, but if you’re not interested in the iPad then this is best alternative. We recommend taking a long hard look at the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 as well before deciding. It can’t match the incredible battery life of the 10.5 and its screen isn't quite as good, but it’s cheaper and just as good in every other way. Its 8.4-inch size also creates a nice balance between portability and comfortable viewing.

Samsung has blessed the Galaxy Tab with one of the best tablet screens we've ever laid eyes on. It's stunning. Razor-sharp, vibrant, with pure blacks, it's a work of art that's a pleasure to behold. While its plastic design is still easily bested by the aluminium iPad, its thin, lightweight body and grippy, dimpled rear are pleasant to hold, and it's still a handsome slice of tech.

100% Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 review - best Android tablet ever
Source: Expert Reviews English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
We're amazed that Samsung has managed to squeeze such a huge-resolution AMOLED screen onto a £400 tablet. The screen, helped by the clever Active Display technology, is just beautiful, and is by far the best 10in tablet display there is. The tablet's performance isn’t always what it should be, and we wish Samsung would put this screen on a tablet with a Snapdragon 801 chip, but the display's quality makes us forgive almost anything. The Tab S 10.5 is even better than the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, and is our new favourite Android tablet. In terms of screen quality, it out-does the iPad Air, but that product has the slight edge for smoothness and range of apps.

Overall that makes the Samsung Galaxy Tab S among the hottest Android tablets around. The real challenge will probably be choosing between the 10.5 or 8.4-inch versions, because with closely aligned specs and £70 difference in price, the smaller version might just steal your affections. But if not then there's rarely a bad thing to say about the 10.5-inch model.

As with most of Samsung’s recent flagship mobile products, the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is an excellent tablet that we’d be more than happy to own. It’s packed with useful features, the screen is beautiful, both battery life and performance are top-notch and the design is the very definition of svelte. However, in a head-to-head against our current favourite Android 10in tablet, it just misses out on the win. The differences are small, but the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet’s better battery life, water-resistance and slightly faster performance mean that this Samsung - fantastic although it is - slips marginally behind.

Having spent plenty of time with both variations of the Tab S, it has to be said that these are great devices — from the eye-catching screen to the raw power under the hood, Samsung couldn't have done much better with what could be a final attempt to compete with Apple at the top-end of the market. If this doesn't make a dent in the iPad sales figures perhaps nothing will. There are still question marks over Android which aren't all Samsung's fault. With the release of Android L in the autumn some of these problems might be ironed out, but when the Tab S will get Samsung's version of the new operating system is anyone's guess.

There's no question about it: this is the best tablet Samsung has yet made and it's arguably the slickest, most effective Android tablet available. There are plenty of innovations, from the fingerprint sensor to the click-in covers to protect your hardware. The slim, light styling is a revelation, especially from a company whose design language was limited in its tablets before. Will it be enough to take a chunk out of iPad sales? Apple's sublime ease of use and better range of optimised apps are tough to beat, but this tablet has the best chance of causing a sea change of any Android machine yet.

A number of Intel-based tablets with full-blown Windows 8.1 are also available in this price range. HP Omni 10 5620 is a fine member of the bunch. Its display is inferior to that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, but its lower price and serious work credentials make it worth a look. Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is undeniably the best full-size tablet to come from the South Korean manufacturer to date. Despite facing much stiffer competition than its smaller relative, the big fella is just as worthy of sporting the famous S in its name. It therefore deserves a spot at the top of the shopping list of anyone looking for such a device regardless of the OS.

Galaxy Tab S 10.5 vs Surface Pro 3 comparison: thin and light Samsung great for media, but the Surface Pro 3 will help you get things done
Source: Tech Advisor English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
The Surface Pro 3 and the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 are both impressive tablets that offer stunning, big, bright and colourful displays. They're both ideal for multi-tasking – running more than one app simultaneously, side by side – but you won't be able to run powerful desktop apps like Photoshop on the Android tablet like you can on the Surface. If you're simply looking for a thin-and-light tablet with a big display, you'll probably find you're better off with the Galaxy Tab S, but for a device that could potentially replace your laptop completely, it's the mid- to high-range Surface Pro 3 models you're after.

The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is the best Android tablet around right now. But our Editors' Choice still stays with the iPad Air because of software, not hardware. The air has a better library of streaming services, better productivity software, and even one of Samsung's flagship apps, Marvel Unlimited, runs more stably on the Air than on the Galaxy Tab S. If you're dead-set on an Android tablet, the Tab S will delight, but the Air is still a safer bet for the platform-independent.

On that basis, there’s plenty to like about the Galaxy Tab S. The 10.5-inch model is a beautiful movie machine, with great speaker performance and sufficiently lightweight construction that even if you’re holding it for the duration, your arms shouldn’t get tired. As for the 8.4-inch version, its slender build and minimal bezels fit a much bigger display into a form-factor closer to slates in the 7-inch category, balancing media consumption with the ability to fit into an overcoat pocket.

The Tab S is also thinner than other leading tablets, at a quarter of an inch (6.6 millimeters). The model with the smaller screen is lighter, too. Samsung Electronics Co. achieves all this by using a display technology previously limited to smartphones. It's called AMOLED, for active-matrix organic light-emitting diodes. Samsung released an AMOLED tablet in 2012, but it was expensive and didn't sell well. The new ones are priced more competitively - the same as iPads of comparable size.
