While the durability of the device could be easily rectified with a case. The frustration of the software bugs I encountered made this a pass for me. If you’re interested in a high-end 10-inch Android tablet I’d suggest checking out our review of the Huawei MediaPad M5 instead.

Handheld devices are in desperate need of unique differentiators. The thinning bezels and expanding screens have brought them dangerously close to looking identical. The phenomenon is more alarming for tablets since phones are quickly hogging their large-screen advantage.

The Galaxy Tab S4 is one of the best Android tablets in the market right now, but it comes at a cost. At Rs 57,000, the Tab S4 is quite expensive. In fact, it is more expensive than last year's Tab S3 and even Apple's last-gen iPad Pro, which can be found for under Rs 50,000 and offers a better performance. If you're looking for a tablet for basic tasks like making presentations, browsing on the go or drawing, then the Tab S4 is for you. If you're only looking for a tablet for media consumption, then the Tab S4 is for you as well, that is only if you have around Rs 60,000 to spare. If not, you may want to consider some cheaper options.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 could be a good companion for your multimedia and artistic needs. It has a great display, stellar audio powered by AKG, good battery life, and a sleek design. It is significantly less expensive than the iPad Pro (2018), and comes with a bundled S-Pen. However, the DeX mode isn't quite up to notebook-level functionality, and the outdated specifications remain a hindrance to intensive usage. The Galaxy Tab S4, once again, is neither a smartphone killer nor a laptop replacement, but fits quite neatly between the two categories as a device meant purely for fulfilling your entertainment needs.

This year, the tablet isn't hugely different when it comes to design but does have a larger screen and even more of a focus on using it for productivity as a laptop replacement. This comes mainly from the DeX software being built-in but we're not entirely convinced by it.

As such, we find it hard to recommend this tablet purely from the high cost and ecosystem readiness for true productivity. No doubt the launch promotions were interesting, but unless you can still get similar offers or better, it's probably time to reconsider your tablet buying plans. Planning to upgrade from Tab S3? Just buy the new S-Pen as there isn't a whole lot that has improved other than Dex and a new form factor. Need a recommendation for buying a new tablet? Get an iPad Pro. Want a to-go mobile productivity suite? How about a Surface Go? Die-hard Android fan? Maybe, but it’s time for even an Android fan to question whether he or she should loyally stick to Android even for tablets, or evolve to Chrome OS. Perhaps you're a digital artist? Get a Tab S3 + Tab S4’s S-Pen, it’s lighter on hand and has a more suitable aspect ratio for drawing.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is a great tablet for consuming content thanks to its beautiful display. It has good battery life and a slim profile. However, the glass construction makes it fragile, and for the price, the speakers could have been a bit better. Its performance as a tablet is good and can multitask well along with running any app or game you throw at it. DeX is interesting and does give the device a laptop like feel. However, it isn’t perfect and needs work before it can take on Windows based 2-in-1 devices.

I was sceptical at first, but coupled with the keyboard cover and (for some users) DeX functionality I’m confident that the Tab S4 could offer a relatively viable alternative to a laptop, with some increased mobility and convenience provided you’ve got the budget at your disposal.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 tries to push Android tablets to the next level with 2-in-1 desktop-like software, and while it's what we want to see from even the iPad, the idea doesn't automatically make it the best tablet. It's overpriced, the touchscreen isn't as responsive in Dex mode, and too many apps aren't optimized.

The Galaxy Tab S4 is one of the most expensive Android tablets on the market, and that's if you just get the tablet alone. If you really want to take advantages of all its expansion features, you'll need the optional keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse. However, if you're willing to shell out the extra cash for these accessories, you'll have a product that can work in some usage models that very few tablets can. And when you compare the Galaxy Tab S4 to the recently announced Apple iPad Pro that starts at $799 and doesn't even have expandable storage, perhaps there's some justification for Samsung's price premium here after all, in the current landscape. Regardless, of whether you feel it's justified, there's no question Samsung's Galaxy Tab S4 is one of the best convertible Android tablets money can buy right now.

The Galaxy Tab S4 tries hard to be a must-have device for the modern day enterprise user, and while it succeeds in many areas, it fails in others. I am sold on the advantages that tablets can bring over smartphones and notebooks when it comes to portability and productivity. There is a role to play for a 10.5-inch screen on a tablet that can't be achieved by that on a six-inch smartphone or 13-inch notebook. I love the Tab S4's adaptability and versatility offered by its wide screen and accessories such as the keyboard and stylus that can be used in combination. But the goal post here is Apple's iPad Pro, and Samsung simply succeeds in offering an equivalent Android product that will be welcomed by Android users.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is the best Android tablet you can buy. It’s pricey, but for the money you get a stunning screen, and as someone who watches a lot of videos on a tablet, I’d happily spend extra for a panel this colourful and sharp. I’m not sure this is a great buy for those wanting a tablet just for web-browsing, a bit of gaming and the odd Netflix watch on a train, however.

The Tab S4 would be an excellent Android tablet if Samsung hadn’t tried to do too much with it. By adding DeX software integration, the company hoped to provide a desktop-like interface to boost productivity, but ended up with an finicky interface that’s ultimately unreliable. If the Tab S4 was a pure Android tablet and cost hundreds less it would be great. Alas, it’s too problematic for the price.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is a great effort to make the ideal Android tablet. Samsung DeX makes the Tab S4 truly special, but the lack of optimized apps for Android and DeX modes means your software choices are quite limited. Samsung did a remarkable job of making the Tab S4 seem like it’s more than the sum of its parts. I just wish the parts were better.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 isn't a huge surprise. In many ways it's a sensible evolution of the Tab S3, but moving to become a more compelling offering for those wanting to remain productive on the move. As an entertainment tablet, although the S4 will excel, it's hugely expensive compared to something like the Fire 10.1.

The Galaxy Tab S4 10.5 is best when space is at a premium. That is both space in your luggage, but also space to work - it's tiny enough to fit even on an airplane tray or just to sit on your lap. Its selection of docks and the keyboard cover help it scale up to a full desktop and down to just a note-taking tool.
