Sony Xperia 10 V preview: Bigger camera, lower price
Source: Expert Reviews English EN→zh-CN
Even with the minor price reduction, the Sony Xperia 10 V has its work cut out to stand out in a highly competitive mid-range market. Its chipset is more at home in devices that cost at least £70 less than the Xperia 10 V will, while that 60Hz refresh rate is outclassed by plenty of cheaper options, including most of the affordable Motorola phones announced earlier this year. There are, however, some bright spots: the battery will likely prove to be one of the most enduring on the market, the design is incredibly light for what the phone offers and the extra attention given to the camera suite certainly sounds promising. Whether this adds up to a must-buy phone remains to be seen – we’ll have a full review and final verdict soon.

60% Sony Xperia 10 IV review: The wrong priorities
Source: Expert Reviews English EN→zh-CN
Mid-range phones are always a matter of priorities, and in the Xperia 10 IV Sony has made some unusual choices. Like the Xperia 10 III before it, the phone feels somewhat overpriced, with a low-end processor, an underwhelming main camera, and a disappointing 60Hz display. On the other hand, the Xperia 10 IV is unusually water-resistant, has a dedicated telephoto camera, and has the best battery life in its class. Overall, Sony still hasn’t quite managed to hit upon a mid-market formula that will sing to most people. Not in such a competitive market, that’s for sure, and not for the money it’s asking.

The Xperia 10 IV isn't a phone you're going to want to buy on the overall balance of its features. In two key areas — the display and the chipset — it's far behind rival phones like the Google Pixel 6a and the Samsung Galaxy A53. But the Xperia 10 IV’s cameras, battery, and pint-sized, durable chassis offer something you can't find easily on other phones, providing a lot of value for some.

There's a lot to like about the Sony Xperia 10 IV with its compact design, reasonable price and a really great battery that won't need charging after one day's use. But, on the other hand, the plastic construction does make it feel less expensive and the camera can be a bit hit-and-miss in its performance. However, when the light works, you can capture some cracking images and you do get a lot of interesting Sony camera features built-in. The price will be enough on its own to attract some attention but do remember to look around before making a final decision as there are a lot of other handsets offering similar value for money currently.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Camera test

We put the Sony Xperia 10 IV through our rigorous DXOMARK Camera test suite to measure its performance in photo, video, and zoom quality from an end-user perspective. This article breaks down how the device fared in a variety of tests and several common use cases and is intended to highlight the most important results of our testing with an extract of the captured data.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Battery test
Source: DxOMark English EN→zh-CN
The Sony Xperia 10 IV showed outstanding autonomy across all our tests. In default mode, it had one of the longest typical usage scenarios we’ve tested to date, and it had one of the best autonomy results in the on-the-go tests, especially when scrolling on social apps. When tested in calibrated mode, the device performed very well, having excellent autonomy whatever the use case. Charging the device’s large 5000 mAh battery to its full capacity lasted 2 hours and 36 minutes because of the small charger. A 5-minute charge boost only yielded an average 3 hours and 24 minutes of autonomy. The charge efficiency was poor, and the residual consumption of the charger when the device was fully charged and still plugged in was above average. But the efficiency of the charger itself was average, and its residual consumption when the device was not plugged in was very low, consuming very little power from the outlet. When it came to discharge efficiency, the Sony Xperia 10 IV drained very low discharge currents across all our use cases, meaning that the device was well-optimized. Compared to devices from the same price range ($400 – $599), the Sony Xperia 10 IV’s global score places it near the top of the segment, while its autonomy score takes the top spot. The device also has among the best scores in efficiency for the segment. But its very low charging score, pulled down by the lowest full-charge subscore we have in our database so far, kept it from doing better in the segment.

Source: What Hi-Fi English EN→zh-CN
Sony’s current lineup of smartphones is centred around the creation and consumption of media first and foremost. The range includes 4K resolution, OLED displays with a 21:9 aspect ratio and HDR support while fervently keeping the 3.5mm headphone port alive. But what happens when you have to start cutting back on features to make devices like these more accessible? The Xperia 10 IV answers this question with pared back specs, a lower quality screen and a plastic build that reduces the price down significantly. However, despite this entry level Xperia cutting some corners, it still manages to provide the essence of what Sony is trying to achieve – providing a cinematic experience that fits into your pocket.

Sony’s Xperia 10 IV is a decent budget phone in a sea of great options. The nice 21:9 display, trademark Xperia aesthetic, and long battery life will impress some, but the middling camera quality and lagging performance makes this hard to recommend when compared to its competition.

Source: Stuff TV English EN→zh-CN
Can you get cheaper handsets than the Xperia 10 IV from the likes of Realme, Poco, Xioami and more? Yes. Will they out-spec various components of the 10 IV? Yes. From screens with higher refresh rates, to faster charging and individual cameras that might perform better, you can pick up a rival handset that might fit your needs better, for the same (or less) money. As with all of Sony’s handsets though, the Xperia 10 IV fills a niche. If you’re drawn to Sony’s unique fuss-free design, more compact screen, and want amazing battery life, the Xperia 10 IV could be the phone for you. Its main camera and zoom capabilities will serve you well, though if night photography and wideangle photography are more your bag, you’ll want to look elsewhere, like the formidable (and cheaper) Google Pixel 6a. That makes the Xperia 10 IV sound like a hard sell, and for most people, it is. If you’re still drawn to its design and positive features after reading this review though, then chances are you’ll get along with it just fine.

The Sony Xperia 10 IV is a compact device with the advantage of waterproofing and with some high-end features like a telephoto camera and support for high-res music thanks to LDAC - but it lacks power, the camera is poor and the experience suffers as a result. 60% Sony Xperia 10 IV review: Bossing battery life, but little else
Source: T3 English EN→zh-CN
The Sony Xperia 10 IV is a breezy, easygoing pocket pal. Its battery life is terrific, particularly for a smaller phone, and the narrow frame makes it less of a handful than the many more performance-driven, nerdy phones you’ll find at a similar price. However, it just doesn’t seem that great a deal next to phones like the Google Pixel 6a and OnePlus Nord 2T. Its processor is a bit weak for the money, which has a significant effect on gaming and a slight hit to general performance. The cameras feel slow and unreliable, thanks to patchy colour handling and below average Auto HDR — night performance is below par too. Slow charging may be acceptable given how long the battery lasts, but add the 60Hz display refresh and the Sony Xperia 10 IV starts to look as though it doesn’t belong in 2022. Still, if you care more about its water resistance and stamina than the more techy stuff, it may be a good fit for your needs.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Display test
Source: DxOMark English EN→zh-CN
The Sony Xperia 10 IV’s display performance puts it near the bottom of our database, pulled down by its limited video performance. The main drawback was that the phone, which falls into DXOMARK’s High-end segment, was unable read HDR10 video and lacked UHD support. On the positive side, video playback was smooth, with no frame drops. The Sony Xperia 10 IV screen was suitable for night-time reading, and it displayed pleasant colors when used indoors. But when used outdoors in the default settings, brightness was not sufficient for any use case. Touch fluidity on the screen was limited when browsing the web, gaming or just navigating the gallery app.

The Sony Xperia 10 IV is a petite Android phone that provides excellent battery life. It easily outlasts most of its peers, particularly the smaller ones. However, there are big issues elsewhere. Its processor is not particularly powerful, which has a knock on effect in day-to-day performance and gaming. The camera array is a bit of a mess, with processing that veers all over the shop and a slow feel to shooting. Some people will also be non-plussed by Sony’s use of a 60Hz screen. These three issues combine to make the Xperia 10 IV tough to recommend to most, even if its combo of long battery life, small size and IP68 water resistance is kinda great.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Smartphone Review

If you are a Sony smartphone fan and looking for something appealing in the midrange segment the Sony Xperia 10 IV will be a good option. Though, every smartphone has its flaws and advantages. The Sony Xperia 10 IV is a great phone if you look at the good side such as the flagship level display, decent battery life, and latest Android OS. However, the downsides are comparatively higher. The phone has average camera quality, a downgrade processing chipset, moderate battery life, and a high price. In the long run, the phone might not even get future updates as we all know that Sony delays firmware updates. In that case, we recommend you check out alternative options like the Google Pixel 6A. The Pixel 6A is a great combo of better performance and camera experience. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G can be considered an all-rounder deal for its specs and features.

Once again, we're parting ways with an Xperia 10 not knowing what to make of it. It's expensive for what its specs suggest, and the phone-only box contents don't help make you feel you're getting your money's worth either. The lack of 4K video recording when the previous installment supported it is an odd consequence of the 5G times we live in, but we reckon it could have been avoided with a different choice of chipset, which would have also improved performance numbers. The fact that the display only supports 60Hz refresh rate is inexcusable at this point, and stereo speakers have all but become the norm even in the upper midrange and the 10 IV misses out on those as well. It's not without its strong points, though, the Mark 4. Unrivaled, almost excessive battery life is the first that comes to mind, and having that in a package as light and compact as this tall 6-incher is certainly going to be enough to attract a whole bunch of buyers. As usual, that body is also dust and water-sealed - a notch better than most, even.

The final and most important question of them all. Should you buy the Xperia 10 IV? Yeah, definitely, if you want a solid phone with maybe the best battery life in this price category, a top-grade 6-inch AMOLED display and snappy performance, by all means - go for it. If you absolutely need a faster refresh rate on your smartphone screen, and you also aim for the best camera experience out there, then you should probably look elsewhere. Truth be told, the Xperia 10 IV is a nice evolution and a pleasant device to hold and use but the price is slowly creeping out of the comfortable budget segment that this phone thrives in. And up there there are a lot of nice phones to consider. It also seems that all Xperia models have contracted the same illness characterized with a raise in price rather than in temperature. Whether or not it will prove problematic or potentially incurable, only time will tell.
