Reviews for the Sony Xperia 10 Plus
With its current smartphone designs, this manufacturer from the far east has finally managed to take into account what customers actually want, without having to abandon its own individuality. Read on in our review to find out how the Xperia 10 Plus with its 21:9 ratio display fares when compared to the competition.

If you watch a lot of films and TV on your phone and want a good-performing phone with no notch then the Xperia 10 Plus is a decent mid-range option. There’s zero wow factor here, though. It’s also quite expensive for the performance and build quality – if you’re not fussed by the odd 21:9 aspect ratio then you should save money and get the Moto G7 Plus or much more powerful Pocophone F1 instead.

For a mid-range device, both the Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus are interesting choices. The 21:9 aspect ratio makes them unique, but I don’t know if it’s enough to make you want to choose these over others in the market. If you were to go with one of these, I’d choose the Xperia 10 Plus over the smaller sibling mainly due to the slightly better specs, larger screen, and better cameras. I really see no reason why the smaller Xperia 10 exists to be honest.

I have to give Sony credit for taking a bit of a risk with the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus. The 21:9 displays make them stand out — literally, because they’re so tall. The awkward appearance aside, these phones have appealing displays, strong chassis, and table-stakes features like headphone jacks and fingerprint readers. Battery life just makes the mark.

The Sony Xperia 10 Plus is a bit of a rebel. A nice-looking, mid-range rebel that certainly has its unique selling point: that 21:9 aspect ratio screen. Pair it with the right movie content things look great, but the big 'forehead' bezel and the simple fact that most other content types don't benefit from the long form factor are obvious drawbacks.

The Xperia 10 Plus is on paper a solid mid-range phablet, featuring an entertainment optimised screen, solid camera setup and reasonably clean Android install. But issues with its performance and battery life impeded its overall appeal. There are also better value smartphones available with similar specs that cost way less than £350.

The Sony Xperia X10 Plus delivers solid performance for a midrange phone, but there are stronger options available that offer greater value.

The Sony Xperia 10 Plus is a mini cinema for your pocket, but the appeal of that may be narrower than you might guess.

The Xperia 10 duo is certainly a unique-looking offering this year. We are not sure if any other manufacturer would be bold enough to try the 21:9 ratio any time soon, so, for the time being, you can be sure that these extra-long slabs will look special when you put them on the coffee table.

The Sony Xperia 10 Plus is an intriguing device with its 21:9 aspect ratio, but while a novel screen size is beneficial in some situations, it’s not as useful for movie streaming – despite that being the entire point of the longer screen.

We understand the rationale behind a 21:9 screen - the narrower body should be easier to reach across, while the elongated aspect still allows for a lot to be shown in one screen - especially for vertically scrolling apps. And it really works - once you've gotten used to the dimensions, you come to appreciate the benefits and look away when a legacy app refuses to stretch to the full height. But aside from the novel display aspect ratio, the Xperia 10 Plus doesn't stand out in any particular way.

The Xperia 10 Plus is better than the smaller Xperia 10, but it is by no means the best mid-range phone out there. Unless you really love the aspect ratio of the display there are phones for the same price that offer better performance and design.

More powerful and up-to-date compared to its smaller sibling. If you can handle its size, this looks to be the better of Sony's new mid-range Xperias.

Sony's latest foray into the world of mid-range phones brings an entirely new aspect ratio that makes it one of the best devices for watching films. We're set to test out the 21:9 display properly to see if it's beneficial or annoying in everyday use.

On one hand, it's kind of hard to be too surprised about Sony's new device announcements, purely on the grounds of the avalanche of leaks that preceded the MWC keynote. Then again, many of said rumors turned out to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Whether intentional or not on Sony's part, all that matters is that the devices the Japanese giant did unveil at the Barcelona event still managed to turn quite a few heads.

The Sony Xperia 10 Plus brings a new form factor to the mid-range smartphone market, as the Xperia 1 does in the flagship sector. The 21:9 aspect ratio is interesting, especially for those who love watching content on their mobiles. For £349, the Xperia 10 Plus certainly offers something to consider for those who want the 21:9 aspect ratio but not all the bells and whistles offered by the Xperia 1.

Sony understands not everyone has the scratch to drop more than 50K for a phone with a 21:9 aspect ratio, so the Japanese giant also announced a pair of mid-range smartphones that delivers the same cinematic experience, for less (we hope). The Xperia 10 and 10 Plus have mid-range innards, reasonably good displays along with what we hope are friendly prices when they’re officially offered locally this year.

Sony’s Xperia phones for 2019 take a bold approach with new screen shapes that dramatically change the appearance and personality of Sony’s lineup. The Sony Xperia 1 flagship is joined by the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus mid-range handsets. All three were developed with the same cinematic vision in mind.
