Reviews for the Sony Xperia 10

83.9% Sony Xperia 10 Smartphone Review | Notebookcheck
Sony is trying to break new ground in the smartphone market with new Xperia devices. The Xperia 10 is the company’s latest attempt to crack the midrange sector, and it has equipped the smartphone with a Snapdragon 630 SoC and a 6-inch display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The latter allows the device to keep its footprint to a minimum and still have a large display. Read on in this detailed review to see how the Xperia 10 performs in our tests and how it shapes up against its midrange competitors.

Tricky one this. There’s no denying it, this is an excellent phone when it comes to the cameras, the screen and the GUI. It’s a different form-factor, that’s for sure, but I’m not going to berate them too much for that as there’ll definitely be lots of you out there who will love the tall and almost remote-control-like appearance of this device. However, what I will say is that, in this world of “all screen” phone frontages and multiple use cases, it’s a hard sell for Sony to say, “We’re doing this complete letterbox design because that’s how movies are formatted”. Sure, movies look great on the phone and there’s no black bars, but what about for the rest of the time, when your thumb doesn’t reach high enough and you have to employ one of those work-arounds that Sony has put in place to let you use the phone with one-hand?

Source: Htxt Africa English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
After playing fourth or fifth fiddle for the longest time, Sony nails it with the Xperia 10. The performance is solid, the camera is great and the battery life is awesome. The weird 21:9 aspect ratio takes some getting used to but once you start using it you hardly notice it. This is a very good handset from Sony and we're excited to see what the flagship Xperia 1 brings to the table.

Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus Review
Source: G Style Magazine English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
For a mid-range device, both the Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus are interesting choices. The 21:9 aspect ratio makes them unique, but I don’t know if it’s enough to make you want to choose these over others in the market. If you were to go with one of these, I’d choose the Xperia 10 Plus over the smaller sibling mainly due to the slightly better specs, larger screen, and better cameras. I really see no reason why the smaller Xperia 10 exists to be honest.

Why the Sony Xperia 10 might be my favorite smartphone of 2019 (seriously)
Source: Ultrabook Review English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
The Sony Xperia 10 was released in February 2019 to little fanfare. Initial excitement for the device’s design was mostly quashed by the confirmation of more of its details — mainly the small 2870 mAh battery, two-year old Snapdragon 630 chipset, and $350 USD MSRP. The phone received almost no coverage by the major YouTube review players (Sony is notoriously poor at community management and marketing), and written reviews were sparse and fairly critical: A 6.0 from DigitalTrends, 3.5/5 from both TechRadar and TrustedReviews, and a withering 2.5/5 from PCMag. However, the Xperia 10 is far and away my favourite smartphone of 2019. Allow me to explain.

60% Sony Xperia 10 Review: Style Over Substance
Source: Tom's Guide English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
Alas, these devices are far too pricey for their occasionally maddening performance, uncooperative cameras and middling battery life. If the $349 Xperia 10 and $429 Xperia 10 Plus hit all their marks, it wouldn't be difficult to justify their cost. But rival devices — like the Nokia 7.1, Moto G7 and G7 Power — offer at least the same, if not far better capabilities for anywhere from $50 to $130 less. So, you really can't make a case for Sony's latest. And as much as I'd like to say, "Maybe next time," at this point, Sony has all but run out of chances.

Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus review: Charting a new path for the smartphone

I have to give Sony credit for taking a bit of a risk with the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus. The 21:9 displays make them stand out — literally, because they’re so tall. The awkward appearance aside, these phones have appealing displays, strong chassis, and table-stakes features like headphone jacks and fingerprint readers. Battery life just makes the mark.

Source: Pocket Lint English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
The Sony Xperia 10's elongated form-factor - it's a 21:9 display - is really interesting, but only useful when watching compatible movie content - which looks excellent - otherwise it can be a drawback. Furthermore, the mid-range competition is strong, with the Moto G7 Plus is likely to be the better all-round option for many.

I’m convinced that there’s a future for 21:9 aspect ratio displays in smartphones — who doesn’t want a bigger screen in a smaller device? — but I don’t think we’ll get there with improvements in power and screen quality alone, which the expensive Sony Xperia 1 brings along with its 4K OLED display and a Snapdragon 855 processor. There are some major usability obstacles to overcome before it becomes the norm, and the Xperia 10 is a bumpy start.

Much like the Xperia 10 Plus, the non-Plus isn't a strikingly good value proposition. On the contrary - there's a ton of competing offerings that deliver more for less. Particularly disappointing is the Xperia 10's battery life, and it's not like you're trading that for top performance - in fact, most rivals pack more punch.

The Sony Xperia 10 is a mid-range phone that brings Sony’s flagship style and unique 21:9 aspect ratio to a phone that’s a third of the price of its upcoming Xperia 1. At this point of concluding the first impression and hands-on experience, our boy, Jim ended this note with a heavy heart because he's a Sony fanboy (lol). But I digress, Sony smartphones have been a huge part of Malaysia, most of us grew up using at least one of Sony's mobile phones (mine was one the Cybershot series, loved it). Starting from this year onwards, we may no longer see any future Sony phone launches in Malaysia but there are still some stocks left according to their website.

The pitch for the Sony Xperia 10 is very simple: like the look of that 21:9 screen, but want it on a budget? This could be the phone for you. And there’s even taller Xperia 10 Plus to consider, which gets a little spec bump relative to its increased size.

On one hand, it's kind of hard to be too surprised about Sony's new device announcements, purely on the grounds of the avalanche of leaks that preceded the MWC keynote. Then again, many of said rumors turned out to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Whether intentional or not on Sony's part, all that matters is that the devices the Japanese giant did unveil at the Barcelona event still managed to turn quite a few heads.

Sony Xperia 10 initial review: The £299 trendsetter?
Source: Pocket Lint English EN→zh-CN Archive.org version
The Sony Xperia 1 is the most exciting of the three Sony smartphones announced at Mobile World Congress 2019, offering all of the company's latest and greatest features. That's not to say the Xperia 10 should be ignored though. For £299, the Xperia 10 gives you a lot of phone. Sure, it misses out on a few things such as waterproofing, a more premium finish and a faster processor, but it also delivers a 6-inch screen with the new 21:9 aspect ratio screen.

Sony understands not everyone has the scratch to drop more than 50K for a phone with a 21:9 aspect ratio, so the Japanese giant also announced a pair of mid-range smartphones that delivers the same cinematic experience, for less (we hope). The Xperia 10 and 10 Plus have mid-range innards, reasonably good displays along with what we hope are friendly prices when they’re officially offered locally this year.
