Reviews for the Vivo S1

The Vivo S1 has entered the market with some brilliant features and extra ordinary design. The reason why it may enjoy the limelight in the world of smartphones is that Vivo S1 has all required specifications, optical ease, good memory space and an amazing camera quality. This smartphone with all such features does not become a burden on the pocket as it is very economical when all the features are present. This product may take the fortune of the company at an elevation as all the update with respect to Pie Android has been carefully dealt with. With this approach, masses might consider updating their previous phones with Vivo S1.

Vivo is off to a good start with their first S series entry in the Philippines. The Vivo S1 is suitable for those who want a good-looking mid-ranger with a large AMOLED screen, RAM and storage capacity, and battery. It’s not the best out there in this price range, but if you’re looking for a reliable entertainment daily driver for PHP 14,999, this phone can give you that experience.

The Vivo S1 sort of feels like a mixed bag of features. At RM1099 it is a good deal as it has a nice design, respectable mid-range specs, Game Assistant, and a pretty big 4500mAh battery (with a somewhat fast charging technology). While I can understand that the features (camera performance, fast charging, and in-display fingerprint scanner) aren't as good as the upper mid-range and flagships, the most glaring minus is the amount of bloatware that does the same thing as Google apps.

With a 4500mAh battery, Vivo S1 is a beast that delivers long life. There are a host of features that the phone comes with. These include in-display sensor, 32MP camera, dual tone finish rear design and AI triple camera at the back. The performance is decent without much hassle. Although, there are some things that can be worked upon like an easy UI and a dedicated night mode.

Vivo S1 is a stylish phone and the Super AMOLED display adds to its charisma. The phone comes with good battery life, fast in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock along with decent performance. However, the phone lags behind the competition in the camera department and long gaming sessions can cause it to heat up. If you can make your peace with the camera performance and you are not into graphics-heavy games, Vivo S1 is not a bad deal at Rs 17,990.

Priced at Rs. 17,999, we think the Vivo S1 has bitten off slightly more than it can chew. The smartphone does the basics well as it comes with good, clean, modern design, and goes through daily tasks easily. However, except for the battery life, we did not think the phone had a massive positive point going in its favor against its competition, which outguns it on many fronts. The Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme X (not to mention the just-launched Realme 5 Pro), that come with better overall performance and distinct design are definitely a headache for the Vivo S1. Even its recently launched cousin, the Vivo Z1 Pro comes with a better all-round performance, which means, the Vivo S1 has a fight on its hands. It has the looks, but we doubt if those alone will suffice in the jungle that is the Indian smartphone market.

Vivo’s AI has also made a leap forward with a more powerful Jovi that understands users’ needs and desires better than ever before. Besides the dedicated Smart Button and Jovi Image Recogniser, S1 also features a more intuitive version of Google Assistant, customised for vivo customers. A single click of the Smart Button will bring up Google Assistant, and a double-press triggers Jovi Image Recogniser for access to almost a hundred mainstream e-commerce platforms to search through databases of over half a billion products.

The Vivo S1 is yet another smartphone from Vivo priced under Rs. 20,000. It has an eye-catching design and a quick in-display fingerprint scanner. Vivo does bring the new MediaTek Helio P65 SoC to the table, but it is only marginally better than the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC in a few benchmarks. In terms of processor power, the Vivo S1 is on par with smartphones powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, which can cost as little as Rs. 10,000.

There’s a lot to like about the Vivo S1, but a phone is greater than the sum of its parts. The hardware lacks finesse and the quality of materials is a definite downgrade over the premium glass and aluminium sandwiches we see at this price range.

Priced at Rs 19,990 (for 6GB RAM and 128GB storage), the Vivo S1 is a balanced midrange phone marred by Vivo’s unoptimised user interface, which hampers the user experience. Consider this phone for its design, display, performance, optics and battery life. If user experience is what you desire, you might want to give this one a miss.

Vivo is clearly developing multiple products at similar price points in order to target diverse groups of buyers. The new Vivo S1 won't appeal to power-hungry enthusiasts in the same way that the Z1 Pro will, but it instead offers a distinctive style and promises great front and rear cameras. More importantly, it will be widely available both online and offline.

The Vivo S1 looks stylish and the gradient finish adds to the overall aesthetics of the smartphone. The blue one is really cool. The phone offers long-lasting battery. The sAMOLED screen of the Vivo S1 is bright enough most of the time, but could have been brighter as that would have helped when a user is outdoor. The phone is capable of handling day-to-day usage pretty well but gaming performance could have been better.

The Vivo S1 is a beautifully-designed smartphone in this price band. The AMOLED display offers some good colour reproduction and good viewing angles. The performance is decent considering the price point, though the camera performance is not that great. Overall, Vivo S1 has a lot to offer and it can be a good device to consider in this price range.
