If you're on a tight budget, the Vivo V29 already gives you a solid option. It handles your everyday stuff like scrolling through socials, watching videos, jamming to music, and some light gaming without breaking a sweat. But, if you're a serious gamer or you're thinking of doing photo and video editing on your phone, it might be worth splurging a bit more for the V29 Pro. In the photography showdown, each of these phones has its own strengths and weaknesses. The V29 Pro nails vibrant colors and handles challenging lighting, but the V29 edges ahead in the fine details game, especially in macro mode. Despite that, my vote goes to the V29 Pro for photography, mainly thanks to its beefier processing power.

The Vivo V29 Pro is a good smartphone with a starting price of Rs. 39,999 that checks all the necessary boxes, including a good display, a great set of cameras, a premium build quality and a good battery life with insanely fast charging speeds. It offers most of the premium features that a consumer looks for in this price range. The smartphone offers a premium in-hand feel, and the Himalayan Blue colour stands out. It justifies the starting price, and the 12GB RAM variant is priced decently well, too. The smartphone does fall short with average ultrawide camera performance, and no IP rating. If the latter matters to you more, I suggest you go with the Google Pixel 7a (Review), which has a better ultrawide camera performance, is IP67-rated water and dust resistant and is protected with Corning's Gorilla Glass 3, at a slightly higher price of Rs. 43,999.

The Vivo V29 Pro might not be the fastest or the best camera phone for the asking price, but for an asking price of Rs 42,999, it is a solid premium mid-range device that offers an excellent camera experience and a dedicated telephoto lens that is more than usable. If you are looking for a device that offers lag-free performance, can take good photos and videos, has an excellent design and doesn’t mind the lack of stereo speakers and IP rating, the Vivo V29 Pro is an easy recommendation. Frankly, there’s not much to hate here, but if you want phones that offer more bang for the buck, there are better options that might offer more performance like the OnePlus 11R or the Nothing Phone (2) with its unique design.

The Vivo V29 Pro impresses with its design, AMOLED display, capable performance, and innovative Smart Aura Ring Light system, making it an appealing choice for camera enthusiasts. While the chipset remains the same, it handles everyday tasks and gaming well. The reduction in pre-loaded apps enhances the user experience. Camera performance, especially in portrait mode, is notable. The battery life is commendable, and fast charging is a plus. However, some may view it as an incremental upgrade over its predecessor. Overall, the Vivo V29 Pro offers a compelling package, particularly for those seeking a camera-centric smartphone.

Unboxing the Vivo V29 Pro, with a 72 hour review of the camera tech, gaming performance, battery life and more. While the Vivo V29 Pro may look very similar to the regular model and sport similar specs, you get an upgraded Mediatek chipset and different optics. This includes a fresh new portrait lens, so the Vivo V29 Pro is certainly superior when it comes to shooting kids, cats etc. That IMX766 is as dependable as ever, although I did see some processing jankery on a couple of my shots. Gamers will enjoy smashing through some Genshin Impact on the Vivo V29 Pro, although I'd recommend keeping it on medium graphics settings. Plus, the curved screen did result in some responsiveness issues when gaming (thankfully not at other times, however). Battery life is good thanks to the 4600mAh cell, while the 80W fast charging means you can mostly juice it up in just 20 minutes.

The Vivo V29 Pro is a design-focused smartphone with novel imaging features. While it does not compromise on core aspects like performance and battery life, it does cut corners on essentials such as dual stereo speakers, ingress protection, and a clutter-free user interface. With its price tag of Rs 39,999, the Vivo V29 Pro is not without flaws, but it presents a good option in the premium midrange segment for those seeking novel camera features in a slender form factor.

The vivo V29 Pro is a rather odd device. There are no two ways about it. First and foremost, there is the price aspect. The V29 Pro occupies a rather odd middle space between the realm of really premium and flagship devices and midrangers. So much so, in fact, that some proper flagships like the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S23 currently reside in the same rough price range. On the flip side, the V29 Pro does punch above its weight class in at least a few aspects. For one, its design and overall appearance, both subjectively and objectively, through things like a curvy display with small bezels, is more premium than your average midranger. vivo is also clearly focusing on the camera department, and the V29 Pro is the first device in the V-series to bring a dedicated telephoto. And credit where credit is due, not only is said telephoto actually quite good in practice, but it is really hard to even find a dedicated telephoto camera in this price range.

Like each and every smartphone, the Vivo V29 Pro has its misses. For example, the battery is a hit and miss and there are no stereo speakers. Furthermore, the design makes the smartphone feel very delicate in your hands, and as always, the FunTouch OS software isn’t the most fun to use. But still, after reviewing the V-series smartphones for the past 4 generations constantly, this Vivo V29 Pro feels like the most complete V-series smartphones so far.

The Vivo V29 Pro is a good recommendation overall. The software experience does get mixed reviews though… I prefer FuntouchOS 13’s light design, but the barrage of pre-installed apps is a no-go at this price. Similarly, relatively fewer years of Android update promise may irk some, with Samsung, Nothing, and Google offering at least three years of major OS updates. For instance, the Google Pixel 7a and Nothing Phone (2) seem better options if you want to experience a clean Android OS. That said, the V29 Pro works well for those looking for a camera-focused smartphone (at least for still photography) in the Rs 40K segment. The Vivo V29 Pro proudly boosts colours and some scenes to let users be carefree about editing and directly uploading images on their favourite social media apps. Beyond the cameras, you can expect lag-free performance and good battery life with fast charging speed on the Vivo V29 Pro.

So, should you buy the V29 series? The short answer to this is – Yes. Both Vivo V29 and Vivo V29 Pro are powerful mid-rangers with impressive performance and great camera features. If you are a photography lover, you are in for a treat. And if you want to buy a smartphone that will let you play games as well as enjoy some OTT content worrying much about the battery, this is a complete package.
