At this juncture, you might be wondering why Xiaomi's tablet costs so much less than a Samsung Tab S9 when the Xiaomi Pad 6 looks good on paper and in our actual use. For starters, the Samsung Tab S9 uses an AMOLED display with far higher peak brightness. This means it will have inkier blacks and a much richer contrast versus the IPS display on the Xiaomi Pad 6, thus giving you a much more convincing HDR performance and works better in bright environments. Don't forget that the Samsung Tab S9 comes with a flagship processor with far more processing power, is the first modern water-resistant Android tablet, has expandable memory, SIM-enabled versions, guaranteed security and OS updates and many other smaller comparisons that come into play to prop up its asking price.

Want an affordable Android tablet that still performs to a high standard? The Xiaomi Pad 6 is the device for you. Its Snapdragon 870 chip might be a little dated, but you can still expect very good performance – including gaming. Combined with an excellent 144Hz display and good speakers, it’s got the fundamentals of a great entertainment tablet covered. If there’s one thing that might put you off the Pad 6, it’s the middling battery life. And I can’t understand why Xiaomi hasn’t included a fingerprint sensor. But unlike its smartphones, the very good hardware here isn’t let down by software. And that makes the Pad 6 easy to recommend if an iPad is off the cards for whatever reason.

So, overall, it’s pretty needless to say that Xiaomi has once again delivered a stunning value-for-money tablet with the Pad 6. With the same aggressive pricing strategy, it is an absolute no-brainer to anyone looking for a solid Android tablet that excels at all the basics. And after using this alongside the Oneplus Pad, I also really don’t think you need to be spending almost 50% more on the OnePus Pad. Xiaomi has even managed to price its accessories like keyboard and stylus cheaper compared to OnePlus, which is fantastic. Plus, this second-gen Xiaomi Smart Pen is really good. Like really good. The input latency is almost unnoticeable and I like how it has dedicated buttons with a bunch of built-in shortcuts to help with your workflow. It would’ve been better if there was also some way to edit their actions, but I don’t mind. So yeah, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is yet another slam dunk and it sets the standard for just how good midrange Android tablets can get in 2023.

Xiaomi is known typically for two things: powerful devices on a budget and often overbearing software. The Pad 6 turns this on its head, and not only does it offer lots of performance at a relatively low price, but it does so with laid-back, considerate software too. In addition it has a great screen, strong battery life, a good camera and speakers that boast full, detailed sound. It does almost everything you might need a tablet to do, and at a cost almost half that of an iPad. If you are married to the idea of investing in Apple's slate, or you want to spend a little less, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is well worth a look.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 starts at €399 for the 6/128 version and that is one very tempting price. It is a good update over the €329 Xiaomi Pad 5 with an improved aluminum unibody design, higher-resolution and higher refresh rate display, faster hardware and charging, and some great first-party accessories. The Pad 6 is great for multimedia of any sort, offers excellent gaming on the go, and its 11" Dolby Vision display is great even for book reading because of the color temperature sensor and the automatic screen adjustments. The powerful four speakers with Dolby Atmos add to the overall great experience. The software, while rather clean, offers excellent multi-tasking options and is quite intuitive. Furthermore, with the help of the Smart Pen (€100) and the Keyboard Cover (about €100) you can even use the Pad 6 for some productivity. Xiaomi's Pad 6 is fast and powerful, with great display, speakers, and surprisingly good camera quality.

As a standalone device, the Xiaomi Pad 6 does a great job, however, since the Chinese company is moving towards the ecosystem concept, the software still needs some polishing. Android is pretty much holding back iPad competitors from making an impact in the market. Xiaomi, on its part, has done much software trickery to streamline the experience but the unoptimised third-party apps, such as Instagram and Twitter, for Android are the weakest link. The Xiaomi Pad 6 is a great choice for its price, despite not having a fingerprint sensor or a more recent processor. The reliable hardware and software integration makes it a competitive offering in the not-so-aggressive Android tablet market. If you have a bigger budget and prefer a larger model with a keyboard and trackpad, or a tablet that provides an equal, if not better, entertainment experience in the Android space, you can check out the OnePlus Pad.

Even though the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the OnePlus Pad have a significant price gap, they are top Android competitors. In this article, I discuss my personal experience with these two tablets. Before I proceed, I’d like to clarify that the featured brands in this article sent out their respective products on a returnable basis. Xiaomi and OnePlus had no effect on the conveyed opinions. Xiaomi Pad 6 is practical, whereas OnePlus Pad is luxurious. The Xiaomi Pad 6 has a metal unibody design, which is an improvement over the plastic body of the Xiaomi Pad 5. The camera island from the Xiaomi 12 series is also included. It is distinctive and simple to recognise as a Xiaomi product. But still not as distinctive as the OnePlus Pad with its centred camera and breathtaking Halo Green hue.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 is back and it brings lot of relatively small upgrades over the Xiaomi Pad 5. Like a new metal unibody, a newer Snapdragon 870 chip, larger battery, higher refresh rate display, lighter weight. All of these little things add up to make for a much better tablet -- at the same price as before.

With an attractive display, excellent battery life, good audio quality and a clean MIUI experience, the Xiaomi Pad 6 was truly a joy to use. The tablet’s accompanying accessories also add to the overall user experience.

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G surely has an edge over its competitors in terms of software, build as well as the display quality. If you are someone who’s not going to perform a lot of demanding tasks on their smartphone, then the Galaxy M34 5G gets most of the things right.

So, overall, I’m not sure what’s the price of the tablet here in Malaysia yet but I do think the tablet is pretty good even if the chipset is quite dated at this point. I do hope that the price is around the same as the Xiaomi Pad 5 or at most around RM1,599. The keyboard is pretty good to type on but we’ll have to take note of the limited angle. As for the stylus – well, that would make the Xiaomi Pad 6 a fantastic tablet for drawing. If you want to know what other tablets you can get around this price tag, then have a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE. That tablet is around 2 years old at this point but Samsung hasn’t released any other tablets that are around this price range.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 features one 12MP shooter under its deceptively large rear camera bump. It produces shots that look passable at best in daylight and worse at night, so I’d only ever use it to scan documents. The front-facing camera, meanwhile, is an 8MP ultrawide lens with enough field-of-view to fit a small room in the shot. Xiaomi has added a software feature called FocusFrame that automatically tracks and centers your face in video calls, but it only works in a select few chat apps. It didn’t work in Google Meet when I tried it, meaning others on the call could see my surroundings in full view. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the Xiaomi Pad 6 and would recommend it despite its minor flaws. And even though it’s only an incremental upgrade over its predecessor, most people only upgrade their tablet every few years.

Good specs, good accessories, optimized software, and a solid battery life to back it all up. That sums up the Xiaomi Pad 6 for me. There should’ve been a 3.5mm headphone jack and expandable storage, but the current price and packaging do just fine for most users. Xiaomi needs to work on the keyboard shortcut optimization and introduce more use cases for the smart pen. A new keyboard with a trackpad is also on my wishlist for future iterations, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. While the MIUI for PAD is optimized for the most part, there should be more clarity on the OS updates. However, the outgoing Pad 5 got two major Android updates, so we can expect two major OS updates with three years of security patches.

Over the past two years, Xiaomi has made a convincing case that affordable Android tablets can be extremely capable. The Pad 5 was a solid entry last year and the Pad 6 takes it one step further. While the Snapdragon 870 chipset might not enable the tablet to deliver pro-grade performance, it is ideal for light usage on the go. Really, it is the display, speakers, and battery life that stand out, ensuring an excellent entertainment device to travel around with. Should you buy the Xiaomi Pad 6? Absolutely. It is easily the go-to Android tablet for those who don’t want to spend a fortune.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 checks quite a few boxes when it comes to offering a smooth, value-for-money Android tablet experience. The upgraded design, sharper display, powerful performance unit and all-day battery life come without attracting any additional cost over the outgoing model, which is a great plus point. However, it has been a whole year since we got the Pad 5 and it would have been nice to have a more recent processor in the new model. Things such as a fingerprint sensor is still missing and there's no cellular model either. And finally, we expected better battery life especially for video playback. The Xiaomi Pad 6 can also be used as a productivity machine with its set of optional accessories and with the bundle offer, it would actually still cost less than something like the OnePlus Pad (Review). The latter is a more premium tablet that also costs a bit more and could be worth stretching your budget for if you want a more unique looking tablet, better processing power, and nicer accessories.

While not without flaws, the Xiaomi Pad 6 outperforms other mid-range Android tablets in the market. It excels as a portable companion device for entertainment, learning, and gaming, and offers solid performance, a sleek design, smooth display, and long battery life. For enhanced productivity and creativity-focused tasks, pairing the tablet with Xiaomi's smart pen and keyboard accessories is recommended.

The pricing is the icing on the Xiaomi Pad 6. Even after significantly improving the hardware and design, Xiaomi has managed to price it at exactly the same level as it had priced the Xiaomi Pad 5 – the 6 GB/ 128 GB variant is available at Rs 26,999, while the 8 GB/ 256 GB variant is available for Rs 28,999. At those prices, it is the best tablet in the market by some distance. The iPad (9th Generation) is often available for less than Rs 30,000 but comes with lower storage (64 GB) and comes with the A13 Bionic chip, which shows signs of its age when dragged into the gaming zone. A slightly more formidable contender is the 2022 edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, which starts at close to the same price as the Xiaomi Pad 6 but comes with the S-Pen stylus in the box.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 is a thin and compact tablet with a 11-inch screen and an overall design that reminds you of the iPad and the OnePlus Pad, both almost the same when it comes to looks. The design is uncomplicated and you get a power button on top and a volume rocker on the right when you hold the tablet in vertical orientation. There is a square camera module at the back and it does protrude out a bit, given that the chassis itself is just 6.5mm thick. This also means the tablet is super light and can easily slip inside your messenger bag, along with the books. The review unit came with a regular folio cover as well as a keyboard cover. With the latter, it does become a bit more thicker and heavier, but still very manageable.

The Xiaomi Pad 6's rear camera module design seems to have been inspired by the company's flagship smartphone in India, the Xiaomi 13 Pro (Review). The tablet has a square-shaped module on the back for the single 13-megapixel camera sensor and an LED flash. The rear camera can record up to 4K 30fps videos. For video calls and selfies, there is an 8-megapixel front camera on the length of the bezel, which can record videos up to 1080p 30fps. The Xiaomi Pad 6 takes on the iPad 9th-generation (Review), which is a couple of years old but still quite a good performer. While the Pad 6 looks quite promising on paper, the software experience is something which would decide if it has an edge over Apple's iPadOS. The Pad 6 boots MIUI 14 for Pad based on Android 13. The custom skin comes with a few multi-tasking, productivity-focused features, which we will talk about in detail in the full review, coming soon.
