If you are confused between the Xiaomi Redmi 11 Prime 4G and Redmi 11 Prime 5G, then you need to make clear what are your priorities. Undoubtedly, the 5G services will be available soon in India. But if you are planning to use a phone for the long term, you must pick the Redmi 11 Prime 4G variant for its proper built quality and a few handfuls of features such as decent performance and battery life. Though, you have to compromise with camera quality to get 5G connectivity on the Redmi 11 Prime 5G smartphone. If you don’t want to waste your money, you should go with the 5G affordable variant. Both phones have their pros and cons. But at the same time, we won’t recommend Redmi 11 Prime 4G smartphone in the first place, such as Xiaomi Poco M3 Pro could be well-rounded spec-wise with 5G support.

The Redmi 11 Prime 5G is no doubt a solid package under 15K. The plastic build doesn’t feel cheap but rather sturdy. The Dimensity 700 performs as expected and offers a smooth experience while doing any casual tasks. It’s not a performance-oriented phone, so don’t expect the same from it. The 90Hz display delivered a smooth scrolling experience bundled with the big 5000mAh battery to stand tall with my binge-watching session. I just wish the display could get a little more brighter. The main camera did a good job in daylight however failed in low light. Nonetheless, the Redmi 11 Prime 5G is a solid all-rounder if you are looking for a 5G smartphone on a budget.

The Redmi 11 Prime 5G is a decent performance package for under Rs. 15,000. The highlight of the phone is offering 5G support with as many as seven bands, along with a decent processor for day-to-day tasks. With a tall screen and good battery life, the Redmi 11 Prime 5G will appeal to those who like to consume video content on their phone. We would have liked to see a brighter AMOLED display with a standard refresh rate, instead of what's being used. If you can stretch your budget by Rs. 500, the Redmi Note 11S (Review) with its 90Hz AMOLED display offers a better multimedia experience. The Redmi 11 Prime's cameras are not the best either. You might want to look at phones such as the Moto G32 or even Redmi's own Note 11, both of which are 4G-only phone though. If you want 5G network support at this price, you will have to compromise a bit in some areas. There is also the iQoo Z6 Lite 5G (First look), a new performance-focused budget 5G smartphone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC that's worth considering.

The Redmi 11 Prime 5G is meant for someone who wants a 5G-ready device, without breaking the bank. The phone has a large enough display, battery, and good performance. If you want to get an affordable 5G phone that you can perhaps use for the next two years, this is one such option on a rather limited list. The Redmi 11 Prime 5G’s camera is one of its weakest points, and you will also miss out on some extra features such as an ultra-wide angle camera. This is not to say the camera performance is very poor, it’s just nothing exceptional, though in line with the price segment. And, if you are unsure about your own interest in switching to 5G, then perhaps it might make sense to wait for a few months to see how companies strategise when it comes to 5G-ready devices across various price points.

With its 5G capabilities and affordable price, the true potential of the Redmi 11 Prime 5G should come to the fore in the coming months once the 5G roll-out is in full effect. However, it also has the benefits of being backed by a capable processor, sturdy design, and long battery life. The cameras lack diversity in terms of taking ultra-wide or macro images, but the primary shooter does a fairly decent job in daylight conditions. You can get slightly better phones at the 11 Prime’s price point but the latter’s 5G capabilities are something that most people should start considering now.

In terms of software, the Redmi 11 Prime 5G runs Android 12-based MIUI 13 out of the box. MIUI is known to be feature-rich but is also infamous for the bloatware that comes along with it. Users can uninstall most of the third-party apps. Since it is a budget offering, we do not expect the Redmi 11 Prime 5G to get multiple software updates in the future, but maybe Xioami will surprise us. We hope that the phone gets at least Android 13 in the coming months. Xiaomi has not announced any details about the software support. The Redmi 11 Prime 5G finds itself in the crowded budget smartphone segment, which includes the likes of the Moto G32, Moto G42, Realme 9i 5G, Infinix Note 12, etc. While some of these phones are targeted at offering better value-for-money hardware with a 4G processor, others, such as the Redmi 11 Prime 5G aims to offer a 5G experience at an affordable price. We will test the phone to see if the Redmi 11 Prime 5G is the best 5G smartphone under Rs 15,000 to buy in India. Stay tuned for the full review coming soon on Gadgets 360.
