Reviews for the Xiaomi Redmi 13

The Redmi 13 5G is priced at INR 13,499 ($162) for the 6GB model and INR 14,999 ($180) for the 8GB model. For the price, you get a device with good design and build quality, a good-quality display, decent performance, and surprisingly good still camera performance. Compared to the standard model, the 5G model feels significantly better in several areas. However, some drawbacks remain, such as the dim display, unusable videos, single loudspeaker, and software that is full of ads, bloatware, and notification spam. But for the price, the pros largely outweigh the cons, making this a good purchase overall in this class.

The Redmi 13 is an overall great phone. I’m impressed with its camera; it takes excellent photos. The design and battery life are also commendable, and the charging speed has been improved to 33W. However, even though it has a new chipset, the performance remains the same as before. That’s not to say the performance is bad; it handles day-to-day tasks easily. But it would have been amazing if it had an even more powerful processor, as it can feel slow at times. For instance, similarly priced phones like the Tecno Pova 5 and Itel RS4 have better chipsets. Unfortunately, Xiaomi decided not to include an ultrawide camera this year, which is a drawback. However, as I mentioned, the main camera is great. Overall, considering everything the phone offers, the Redmi 13 is an all-rounder and the best phone under Rs. 20,000 launched this year in Nepal. It’s the only one in this budget that provides so many good features in one package.

Priced at PHP7,999, the Redmi 13 provides excellent value with its large camera, ample storage, and decent performance. For gamers seeking top-notch graphics and smoother performance, a higher-priced device might be worth considering.

To sum it up, the Redmi 13 5G is a decent phone to have as your daily companion if not an exceptional one. There are some things that work in its favour – the design, the battery, camera performance when there is abundant light and performance to a large extent. There are other things that don’t – display quality, camera performance in indoor lighting conditions. If you are transitioning to a 5G phone or if you are simply looking for a 5G phone under Rs 15,000, the Redmi 13 5G is a phone you can consider.

It might face more competition than its predecessor did, but the Redmi 13 5G is one of the best 5G phones you can get for its price. Some might grumble about the absence of an AMOLED display, and some others might have expected OIS on the camera, but the fact is that the Redmi 13 5G ticks all the basic mid-segment 5G smartphone boxes thoroughly – consistently smooth performance, a large display, a very good camera and a battery that goes on and on, all of this inside a design that remains surprisingly premium. Spending a little more might get you a camera with OIS, a slightly faster processor or a bigger battery, and in some cases, even an AMOLED display, but if you are looking at very consistent performance for around Rs 13,000 – Rs 14,000 with no real flaws, then the Redmi 13 5G rules. Xiaomi has just upgraded a winner.

Any budget smartphone has a lot of compromises, and the question of purchasing one rests on how critical these compromises are for you. Considering the price, Xiaomi Redmi 13 is a very good budget smartphone if you need basic functionality without demanding tasks. It has a large IPS screen with a frequency of 90 Hz and a nice main 108-megapixel camera. Again, considering the price. In addition, the Xiaomi Redmi 13 has a nice design with a glass back cover, IP53 protection, and nice extras: a standard headphone jack, a MicroSD slot, and an IR port. Considering the price, a lot can be forgiven. But I would still like a more powerful chipset, at least some basic video stabilization, and less bells and whistles in the HyperOS shell.

The Xiaomi Redmi 13 is a decent smartphone. It has the right set of features and capabilities to make it stand out among other smartphones. The display of the smartphone is bright, color-accurate, and has a decent refresh rate, which can provide a solid user experience. You also get a decent chipset, which gets the job done. The camera and battery performance are also quite good, but the pricing is where the smartphone misses the mark by a lot. This phone could have been really good and they got the specs right as well, but its higher price tag puts it against phones that have much better specs. Against such phones, the Redmi 13 looks like a bad deal. Even Xiaomi’s older model, Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G is much better than this and also costs a bit less. That phone has a better display, faster chipset, and even 5G connectivity, so we would recommend that phone instead. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.

Overall, the Redmi 13 is a dependable and reasonably priced smartphone, offering a decent set of features that cater well to budget-conscious consumers. It presents itself as a reliable option for those in need of a backup device or looking to gift a smartphone without breaking the bank. In terms of performance, it handles day-to-day tasks adequately, although it may struggle with more demanding applications and games. The display is vibrant and enjoyable for media consumption, while the battery life impresses with its longevity, making it suitable for extended use. While the camera setup includes a high-resolution main sensor and a basic macro lens, photo quality is decent in well-lit conditions but tends to falter in low light.

Now before we conclude this review, we definitely need to talk about price. Jokes aside, in our opinion there are better options out there for around the same price range, less than PHP 15K. Options that offer AMOLED displays and 5G data connectivity. Something like the Redmi 13 may arguably have better software optimization, but I personally, don’t feel like it’s enough to topple other options with an added PHP 2,000. But if I focus only on the pros, the Redmi 13 is an alright entry-level smartphone. We get a substantially sturdy build, a 3.5mm audio jack, expandable storage, a usable camera system, and it can double as a universal remote. If you’re someone looking for a pretty basic smartphone in 2024, maybe just for work or just as a backup phone that won’t hurt your wallets and purses, the Redmi 13 could be something for you to consider. The Redmi 13 5G retails in India starting at Rs 13,999 for the 6GB+128GB variant and Rs 15,499 for the 8GB+128GB variant. There’s also a bank offer of Rs 1000 on both variants, bringing the effective price down to Rs 12,999 and Rs 14,499, respectively. For the price, it is a compelling, affordable 5G smartphone suitable for all types of users. Its key competitors include the Realme Narzo N65 (review), the itel S24 (review) and the iQOO Z9x (review). The former delivers comparable performance output but has a lower-resolution display. The itel S24 instead comes with a similar 108MP primary camera and an appealing design. Lastly, the iQOO Z9x offers a more robust performance output, battery life and charging speeds. Coming back to the Redmi 13 5G, it delivers a respectable level of performance for everyday use and can work as a casual gaming device.

The Xiaomi Redmi 13 5G is great for those wanting a stylish phone without compromising on specifications. It has a massive 6.79-inch IPS LCD screen with 120Hz, decent performance and long-lasting battery life. However, you will still need to deal with an LCD screen, bloatware-ridden experience and average lowlight camera performance. If you can look past these shortcomings, the Redmi 13 5G can be your next budget smartphone. However, you can also consider other phones like the CMF by Nothing Phone (1), Realme P1, Vivo T3x and the Motorola Moto G54

The Redmi 13 5G aims to make 5G accessible to a broader audience, but it falls short in several key areas. Its bulky design, subpar display, disappointing camera performance, and mediocre chipset make it hard to recommend. While the battery life is impressive, it isn’t enough to compensate for the phone’s shortcomings. The sub-15,000 segment is bustling with 5G phones, aiming to bring high-speed internet connectivity to the masses without breaking the bank. The Redmi 13 5G is one such addition, promising to deliver on this front. It enters the segment with some appealing features such as a premium glass rear panel, a 108 MP primary camera, a 120 Hz FHD+ display, and more.

Redmi 13 5G is an entry-budget smartphone, costing Rs 13,999 and I think that it is a decent choice. The Redmi 13 5G features a beautiful display, a massive battery back up, stunning design and good enough camera. For those who are looking for a smartphone under a strict budget, this is a smartphone worth considering.

The Redmi 13 looks pretty great on paper, particularly in the camera department with its 108MP main shooter. While it can indeed capture pretty decent photos, even this hardware highlight has some cut corners that are worth mentioning, primarily with video capture. It is limited to 1080p@30fps, and there is no EIS and just mono audio. We do believe that it's all about the details when it comes to the Redmi 13. That's how you discover some of its potentially important deficiencies. For instance, while we like its build quality, complete with a Gorilla Glass sheet on the front and glass on the back, it only offers basic IP53 ingress protection. The display looks good on paper, too, and we appreciate the extra attention to refresh rate modes and switching.
