Xiaomi does not reach an acceptable level with the Redmi 13C in any other area except battery life, which is still just okay. Overly complex software prevents an otherwise acceptable chipset from keeping up and providing a smooth experience, while many other details fall short. Instead of getting this, spend just a bit extra to get a much better phone.

Indeed, Xiaomi has cut a few corners with its Redmi 13C 5G to deliver 5G connectivity (often referred to as the “5G tax”) at this sub-Rs. 11,000 price point. This would include a supremely bloated and spammy software experience, poor camera performance (even for a budget phone) and very slow charging. At the same time, it does check a few boxes when it comes to style, content streaming (clearer videos), battery life and a smooth (yet outdated) software experience. But it's really hard to recommend, given that smartphones like the Motorola Moto G34 exist. It offers a smoother display, a cleaner software interface (updated to Android 14), stereo sound and faster charging. And this provided you can ignore its average camera performance.

The Redmi 13C does not have any major drawbacks, considering its price. It has all the great features its predecessor, the Redmi 12C, had, including exceptional performance and decent display, battery, and camera. In addition to that, it now has a USB-C port, fast charging support, and a better design. It would have been perfect if it had come with a better camera performance, the latest Android 14, and an 18W charger instead of the mere 10W charger in the box. All in all, I will say the same I said for the Redmi 12C: the Redmi 13C is the best phone you can buy for under Rs. 15,000 in Nepal at the time of publishing this review.

With the Redmi 13C, Xiaomi offers rather minimal updates in one of its most affordable smartphones. Although the smartphone now comes with a stylish new design and USB-C, the manufacturer has left everything else pretty much untouched. The standard version does not even support the new 5G mobile communications standard, the three "cameras" at the back turned out to be a single functional camera, and the performance is just about sufficient for a current Android setup at the bare minimum. While the battery runtimes were impressive in the review, the "fast charging" was also a farce at a very slow 18 W. Charging times of almost two hours are no longer acceptable in 2024, as are many other features in this smartphone. We therefore recommend spending a little more money to avoid looking for a new smartphone in a year's time. However, if you really need to save money and find the Redmi 13C stylish, you can still get along in your everyday life with this cheap handset

For what it costs, the Redmi 13C 5G isn’t a bad phone. The design’s decent and the performance gets the job done. There are some corners cut to keep it affordable, which I think makes sense since lots of young people want a taste of those zippy 5G speeds. The camera could definitely be better but again, this phone’s main goal is getting 5G into more folks’ hands. For basic stuff like calling and apps like WhatsApp, it works perfectly fine. The one real issue is that at Rs 10,999, it’s just Rs 1,000 cheaper than the Redmi 12 5G. That phone’s got a better display, a Qualcomm processor that many prefer over MediaTek, a more premium glass back, and better cameras front and back. It’s tough to justify the 13C’s price when you can get better specs for barely more money. And to make matters worse, there’s also the Poco M6 Pro 5G, which has the exact same price as the 13C 5G at Rs 10,999.

We can say that both Xiaomi Redmi 13C 5G and 4G are excellent launches in their budget category and bring some good competition back to this category. Speaking of downsides, the set of specs offered feels underwhelming as per the alternatives available in the market. However, with these new smartphone launches, Xiaomi has managed to cater to both 5G users as well as those who are satisfied with 4G. But in a market so fierce, they have some tough competition. The newly launched Realme C67 is a great alternative to the Xiaomi Redmi 13C. Each smartphone has its own set of pros and cons. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.

In summary, the Redmi 13C 5G is impressive for its improvements this year. The biggest of them is the first ‘C’ series phone with 5G at a budget-friendly price of around ₹10,000. The starry design gives it a cool look for fans of space themes. The glass back and the screen’s responsive 90Hz refresh rate make it attractive. The MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ also works fine with the smartphone, even for games. Yet, the MIUI 14 software has too many extra apps and ads. The camera is okay but could be better, and the 5000mAh battery lasts a good amount of time.

The Redmi 13C is poised to set new standards for Xiaomi’s 2024 lineup. Its solid build, improved design, and overall performance make it an attractive option in the budget smartphone market. Priced reasonably, it offers features like NFC, which are not always available in budget devices. The phone’s design is a standout feature, distinguishing it from other models in its price range. The drawbacks are the water drop display design, which feels outdated, and the use of the Helio G85 processor. I hope Xiaomi will update this in their future models. Xiaomi Redmi 13C Review: The New Budget Champion? The Redmi 13C is a commendable effort by Xiaomi to balance affordability with quality features. While it has some areas for improvement, its strengths in design, refresh rate, and performance make it a strong contender in the budget smartphone category. So, If you’re in the market for an affordable smartphone that doesn’t compromise on key features, the Redmi 13C is undoubtedly worth considering.

So, should you invest in the Redmi 13C 5G? We can see people wondering whether the Poco M6 Pro 5G and the Redmi 12 5G might be better options, especially given that they come with larger FHD+ displays, comparable processors, and 22.5 W chargers. Well, they may seem like better options, but then this is a segment where every Rupee matters. And if you are on a very tight budget and still want a rock-solid 5G smartphone with minimum compromises, the Redmi 13C 5G is an excellent option. It is not perfect, but it does the basics brilliantly and at a very affordable price. It is not perfect. It will not blow your mind, although it might dazzle your eyes. But it just works. And for many of us, that is what counts most of all. Brilliant basics on a budget. A Redmi approach to smartphones. At Rs 10,999, the Redmi 13C 5G is one of the best budget 5G smartphones around. But it faces competition from within its own family.

The Redmi 13C is a solid 5G phone if you can spend a little more than Rs 10,000. It is priced at Rs 10,999. Firstly, you get a great design. It is able to offer a good general performance and battery life as well. The display is also pretty bright and the colours are lively. There is also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is fast enough to quickly unlock the phone. One can also get attractive camera shots in ample light. Essentially, the Redmi 13C has received a big thumbs up from us and people can consider buying it for an all-rounder experience in under Rs 12,000.

The Redmi 13C 5G sits somewhere between an entry-level and a capable sub-Rs 15,000 smartphone. There are some compromises to keep the pricing affordable, which in my opinion, isn’t a bad thing as many young customers do want a taste of the 5G internet speeds as long as Indian telcos aren’t separating 5G and 4G prepaid or postpaid plans, at least for now. If I keep the sub-standard camera performance and slow charging speed aside, the Redmi 13C 5G will easily get the basics done, which include calling, texting, and running essential apps (WhatsApp, Uber, and so on) with reliable internet speeds. Therefore, on paper, the Redmi 13C 5G is a great idea, but the execution by Xiaomi could’ve been better. Whether to go for Redmi 13C 5G or not, the answer isn’t straightforward. You could spare some extra bucks and go for the Redmi 12 5G (roughly Rs 1,000 for almost all three variants), which offers much better performance and a 22.5W charging brick in the box.

Sure, the Redmi 13C 5G seems like a well-rounded update. But it's all expected to show up with a higher price tag, which is something Xiaomi will reveal in the coming days. Thankfully, it will appear justified given that the actual successor to the Redmi 12C is the Redmi 13C, which is the non-5G variant of the same device. At the time of writing, Xiaomi has not provided us with details about its standard Redmi 13C (4G) model but did comment that it would have a lower resolution selfie camera, among other minor changes, versus the 5G model. So, do stay tuned for our review of the entry-level Redmi 13C 5G to find out if it's worth the premium over the Redmi 12C or the 13C or whether it gets cannibalised by the budget Redmi 12 5G (Review) instead.
