Reviews for the Xiaomi Redmi Go
Xiaomi's first smartphone with Android Go is here, the Redmi Go. The expectations towards the 80-Euro (~$91) smartphone are high, since the company has so far succeeded in offering great performance for a good price over and over again. Does this also work in the absolutely cheapest price segment?

Priced at Rs. 4,499, the Redmi Go is one of the best options for those who want to take their first steps into the dazzling world of smartphones. It is simple, humble and uncomplicated, which is exactly what one needs from a super budget-friendly smartphone. Redmi Go will make your transition from a feature phone to smartphone very smooth and it will definitely deliver a smartphone experience without too many problems. It is meant to be used, not set benchmarking or speed records. Competition in the shape of Nokia 1 is around for the exact same price but with an FWVGA display, inferior cameras, a smaller battery and a MediaTek processor, and well, as we said before that one really looks more like a feature phone. Performance and looks wise, the Redmi Go is pretty much the best ambassador Android Go has in India right now.

So to the question of whether we smartphone users should recommend the Redmi Go, we must first remember that it is for the first time buyer. If every 500 Rs. matters, the Redmi Go is a solid first time smartphone that offers a quality first time experience. If a little more money can be afforded by the buyer there are other options that offer more RAM and storage, from Xiaomi themselves with the Redmi 7 and then the Redmi Note 7 and so on. Hope this review helped making a decision, do let me know if you’d like to know anything specific, in the comments section below.

Xiaomi Redmi Go looks to me like a good entry-level phone, one I can recommend in the sub Rs 4,500 category. It has an ergonomic design, acceptable cameras, and good performance. However, those not restricted to a budget and can spend a little more can explore options such as Redmi 6A which comes with a 13MP rear camera, bigger display, and AI face unlock, starting at Rs 5,999. Users also get more RAM and storage as well.

It has been more than a decade when people switched to smartphones capable of handling more than calling and messaging features. However, in a price conscious market like India, there is still a huge chunk of population that continues to use feature phones. Migrating these users to smartphone ecosystem is both an opportunity and a challenge. Opportunity because it is still an untapped segment, and challenge because most of the users are extremely price-conscious and on the low end of the spectrum.

The Redmi Go isn't as attention-grabbing as Xiaomi's slightly higher priced offerings. However, tt still offers relatively good hardware for the price, which is a big win for people with very tight budgets or very simple needs. We just wish that there was at least an option with more RAM and storage space.

Yes, you should if you're looking to buy a smartphone for the first every time. The Redmi Go is extremely easy to use unlike more costly phones. Overall the Redmi Go looks cute, offers great build and form factor and also handles the daily performance pretty well for the price it comes for. The specs and the performance the Redmi Go offers for the price (Rs 4,499) are incredible. However, (being a little greedy) I wish the software was cleaner and the cameras captured better pictures. But still, I believe the Redmi Go is a really good choice under Rs 5,000.

Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi Go handset in India, priced at Rs. 4,499 and using the same hardware the Snapdragon 425 quad core. This is a basic entry level smartphone and parents are going to love it because it is indeed PUBG Safe.

Given its price point and what you get, we were pleasantly surprised at what we could play on the Redmi Go. Unless you're hellbent on playing PUBG in some form, the Redmi Go can handle recent 3D graphics-intensive games at a smooth frame rate with few issues. You obviously won't get performance on par with flagship devices, but you're paying fraction of the cost, making it a fair trade off as long as you keep your expectations in check.

The performance of the Redmi Go appeared to be zippy, and apps loaded quickly in our brief experience. However, we'll reserve a final opinion for our in-depth review, after we thoroughly assess parameters including camera quality, performance, display quality, and battery life, among others.
