Reviews for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro
On paper, the Redmi Note 8 Pro has everything it needs to be the new king of mid-range smartphones. But can the new MediaTek Helio G90T keep its promises? The answer can be found in the following in-depth review of the Redmi phone.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro promises a lot with its quad-camera system, but the primary camera carries the weight here, with the other lenses unable to keep up. If one good camera is enough for you, the Note 8 Pro doesn't disappoint with great battery life, excellent headphone audio and solid build quality at an affordable price.

For the price, the camera performance is excellent and it’s the best mobile camera under $250 we’ve seen to date, based on the prices below – obviously, this can vary depending on locations, but it gives you a snapshot of the market. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro has a price tag that places it in the ‘budget phone’ category, but lots of its features like the 64MP main camera, big battery, and FHD+ display, make it feel like a decent mid-ranger instead. The 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card support are important additions too, enough perhaps to make up for a few shortcomings like its bloatware, the addition of some unnecessary cameras, and a design that's a bit chunky.

Overall, if you're not going into this with unrealistic expectations, the Redmi Note 8 Pro will be a phone that you'll enjoy using every day. That is, of course, if the lack of interband LTE carrier aggregation on all bands doesn't directly affect you (or for some reason you don't care about that).

This is our detailed and in-depth look at Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8 Pro review. After receiving our standard Redmi Note 8 unit, Xiaomi kindly shipped the Redmi Note 8 Pro shortly after as well. Falling in the same Note 8 series, the Redmi Note 8 Pro features a slightly different design and different hardware. After couple weeks of testing, here is our complete review.

Looking at the Redmi Note 8’s scores and sample images, it’s clear the Xiaomi device’s camera cannot compete with the current best in class models, and shows a range of areas for improvement in both photo and video modes. This said, the Redmi is a budget model that costs only a fraction of the price of a current top-end smartphone. With this mind, it’s fair to say the device does a decent job, and if you’re willing to accept its shortcomings, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro provides a good amount of smartphone camera bang for your buck.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Review The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is available now for $449 from the Xiaomi Mi Store, and it gets a big recommendation from me. If you’re on a budget, it’s one got some of the best hardware in phones of its price range – although if you have a little bit more to spend, I’d pick up a Pixel 3a over it. The Xiaomi does require a bit of tinkering to get it working how you like, but once that’s done, you’ll have a great phone without hurting the pocketbook too much.

This phone is perfect for those who have a limited budget, but want to try the latest features. Obviously it doesn’t have all the latest gimmicks as it still uses a physical fingerprint scanner at the back (which I prefer) and an IPS LCD display. Personally, I’m okay with that. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is a pretty decent phone in itself as it also offers fantastic levels of performance!

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is the best smartphone that you can get under Rs.15,000 right now. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and back and the built quality is amazing. The cameras do their job well and if you are okay with the heating issues the processor is good too. All the heavy games work easily on the device and you can multitask with ease. This time the pricing is actually honest as the base variant with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage starts at Rs.14,999 and you can get the 128 GB Storage variant for Rs.15,999. Overall the Redmi Note 8 Pro gets a thumbs up from us!

At Rs 14,999 (6GB/64GB), the Redmi Note 8 Pro is a complete package with all-round strengths. From a capable HDR display to impressive imaging and power-packed performance, the phone ticks all the right boxes and sets a new benchmark for midrange smartphones. The only irksome let-down, however, are advertisements and apps notifications. If you can find a way to live with them, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is an excellent choice in its segment for shutter bugs, multimedia enthusiasts and casual gamers.

Its price of Rs 14,999 is the highest starting price seen in the Note series and a full Rs 1000 above that of the Note 7 Pro. However, as we have pointed out, the Note 8 Pro does take the Note series up a significant notch in terms of performance across most parameters, most significantly in hardware and gaming. Its most notable competitor is the Realme XT (we had called it “ A Note-able Challenger”, remember), which also has a 64-megapixel sensor and quad-camera set up and also brings an AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint scanner to the fight, but starts at a slightly higher price (Rs 15,999 for the 4 GB/ 64 GB variant). How those two compared is going to be another story (literally – stay tuned for it), but as of now, we can safely say that the Redmi Note 8 Pro continues the Note tradition. Of being the best in its price segment. For Rs 15,000, it does not get better than this. Please to (Redmi) Note.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is an upgrade over the Note 7 Pro in almost every count. At least on paper. In the real world, there is a boost in gaming performance and display quality while the added Alexa integration will be welcomed by some. The camera quality remains more or less the same despite a newer sensor, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Addressing a few burning issues, we initially concluded the Note 8 Pro might be overheating during longer gaming sessions. While the phone does run warmer than say the Realme 5 Pro, it doesn’t go beyond 50 degrees, which is what we consider overheating in smartphones. The battery life of the phone is just as good as its predecessor, despite a larger battery. By the looks of it, Xiaomi took a bold step by choosing to go with a MediaTek flagship SoC and it seems to have paid off. There’s no reason why shouldn’t buy the Redmi Note 8 Pro, save for the pesky ads in the UI.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro gets a lot right: the Helio G90T is a great addition on the hardware front, as is the 64MP camera and 20MP front shooter. You also get great value, but the downside is the software — the phone is still on Pie, there's bloatware everywhere, and the MIUI 11 update won't be here until the end of the year.

Xiaomi has added a lot to this smartphone. You get the latest MediaTek Helio G90T processor along with a 64-megapixel rear camera, new design language and more, to make it look like a perfect smartphone for this price range. However, it is still not a perfect device. You still have problems with the ads and software needs more fine-tuning. The display looks good, but you are getting AMOLED display with Realme XT or Galaxy M30s. That said, it still delivers some good performance and gaming looks immersive with this device. So, if you are looking to a smartphone that gives you good gaming experience along with decent camera performance, then you can consider the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro has a lot riding considering it packs major upgrades such as four cameras, a 64MP main camera, a bigger battery, a new MediaTek processor. It is also being introduced in the market ahead of the crucial Diwali season. But along with more upgrades, Redmi Note 8 Pro starts at a higher price of Rs 14,999, though it now includes 6GB of RAM. The series now goes up to Rs 17,999.

To conclude, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is a good device, especially, if you consider it for gaming purpose. The whole gameplay experience is quite smooth and you can even play PUBG Mobile at high settings. The Game Turbo 2.0 gives you a plethora of options and customisable settings. However, on the downside, the phone is prone to overheating and it sometimes makes it difficult to even hold the smartphone.

And lastly, is it better than the Realme XT? A detailed answer would translate into another long article. But to state it simply, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is better than the Realme XT in terms of sheer performance, gaming included. Their cameras are evenly matched in terms of specifications and image quality both, and so are their aesthetics. Screen quality and fast charging are better on the XT, and Color OS is way better than MIUI. So, choose one depending on your priorities and needs.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro has iding on it considering how popular its predecessor, the Redmi Note 7 Pro (Review), was. To give it a fighting chance, Xiaomi has equipped it with powerful hardware previously unseen in this price segment. The MediaTek Helio G90T can easily take care of your gaming needs. It beats the Snapdragon 712 as well as the Snapdragon 730 SoC in terms of performance, making it an easy pick for someone looking at just that. However, there seems to be a bit of a tradeoff, as we found that this processor wasn't as power efficient as the Snapdragon 675 that powers the Redmi Note 7 Pro, and this was evident in our battery tests.

Xiaomi's new Redmi Note 8 Pro has been priced starting at Rs. 14,999 with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There will also be a version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for Rs. 15,999, and finally the top-end version with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for Rs. 17,999. Will powerful graphics and photo capabilities at these prices help Xiaomi cement its position? Do buyers have much to be excited about? We've been able to spend a little time with the new smartphone and here are our impressions, ahead of our full Redmi Note 8 Pro review, which is coming up shortly.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is priced at 11,490 for the variant that I have with me to review, which is the 6/64 configuration. You can max out the storage to 128GB for a bit more cash at Php 12,990, which is the variant that I suggest getting since it really isn’t much of a stretch for your budget.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro offers an overall robust smartphone with great camera hardware and a modest IPS display. The device’s chipset might be slightly controversial, but the 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage can offer smooth and lag-free performance. Not to mention, the large battery capacity. At this point, it’s already a significant upgrade if you’re coming from the Redmi Note 7 Pro. And given the official SRP, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is definitely one of the best value smartphones on the market.

For yet another year in a row, the Redmi Note Pro lineup brings a phone which is super easy to recommend. It's a true "bang for the buck" kind of midranger and leaves almost nothing to complain about. Sure, the Realme XT has a banging OLED panel for the same price with arguably more convenient in-display fingerprint reader, but the Note 8 Pro's screen isn't bad either. It's bright, it's crisp, and the only things that could use some improvement is its color accuracy, which may not be an essential point for many of the prospective buyers.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro offers an overall robust smartphone with great camera hardware and a modest IPS display. The device’s chipset might be rather controversial, but it does offer smooth and lag-free performance, combined with 6GB of RAM and two storage options. The battery life is average though, and do remember that our unit here has a China ROM as the smartphone is yet to be officially launched in the Philippines. If you’d like to cop the Redmi Note 8 Pro, you can get it for PHP 13,200 (6GB + 64GB) or PHP 14,700 (6GB + 128GB) through an online seller. We recommend that you wait for the device to be officially released in the country to get the global ROM experience and for your device to be under warranty in case things go haywire.

As a mid-range model, the mission of Redmi Note 8 Pro is: I want everything you want. Fullscreen of water droplets, 64MP lenses, game chips, liquid cooling optimization, 3.5mm headphone jack, infrared remote control… As far as configuration is concerned, we can’t really ask for more Redmi Note 8 Pro. As a mobile phone for users, Redmi seems to have been able to read the user’s heart and tap into their innermost needs. This has never changed.
