Reviews for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8
The Redmi Note 8 is another entry-level Xiaomi smartphone, but it's one that redefines the quality of displays we expect from sub-200-Euro (~$220) devices. The panel is bright, contrast-rich and even suitable for those who are PWM sensitive. The Redmi Note 8 is not all good news though, as our review unit will establish.

The Redmi Note 8 is a reliable performer that, unfortunately, does too little to step out of its comfort zone. Sure, the cameras got an upgrade, but the competition has stepped up its game as well. The Note 8 is still an easy phone to recommend, but it is no longer the only great option in the hot budget mid-range segment.

There are other offerings such as realme 5s (review) and moto one macro (review) but Redmi Note 8 offers more features compared to both of these. realme 5s features dated micro-USB port and has only HD+ display while moto one macro lacks the ultra-wide-angle lens and it also has HD+ display.

There were times when the new Redmi Note was the best in its niche, but that time's gone now. With Realme going all-in, and Samsung trying hard to snag a piece of that pie, Xiaomi needs to step up its game. The Redmi Note 8 is a great smartphone, sure, but we somehow expected just a little bit more.

Except for the cameras, the Redmi Note 8 does not seem to bring any major upgrade over the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7S. Perhaps that is a reason why Xiaomi decided to keep its price similar to its predecessor's. Nonetheless, the phone is a decent budget offering with sturdy design, capable display, good imaging, and satisfactory performance.

The Redmi Note 8 offers impressive and unmatched value for money if you’re looking for a phone under 10k. It heavily competes against the Realme 5 but the latter's 12 MP camera is easily eclipsed by the 48 MP rear camera on the Note 8. The Realme also offers a lower resolution display and no fast charging, making the Redmi Note 8 an easy choice for anyone looking for a phone in the 10k range.

Under Rs 10,000, I believe this is the phone to buy. In fact, if you're looking for a good overall smartphone under Rs 10,000 in India right now, the Redmi Note 8 is the best option to consider. I believe the Redmi Note 8 ticks all the right boxes to get the best under RS 10,000 phone crown. The Redmi Note 8 looks premium and classy, offers impressive battery life, handles multi-tasking well, and captures stunning pictures. The smartphone is available via flash sales in the country.

Overall, the Redmi Note 8 is quite an impressive smartphone — it has an excellent feel to it, the cameras deliver moderate images, it has a modest battery life, and it comes with a good panel. Despite those aspects, one can’t ignore the occasional stutters during navigation and the poor gaming performance in graphics-heavy titles.

The Redmi Note 8 starts with a 4 GB/ 64 GB variant for Rs 9,999, with a 6 GB/ 128 GB variant available for Rs 12,999. But make no mistake about it, it is the former that is the killer product – the latter will take heat from its own Pro brother, the Realme 5 Pro and even the Mi A3, as well as a few others. But at Rs 9,999, the Note 8 suddenly graduates from being competitive to being overwhelmingly superior. Yes, there are other devices at that price point, most notably the Realme 5 and the Vivo U10, but none come close to matching its combination of design, display, camera, and battery. It is a bit of an irony- the better specced Redmi Note 8 (and even the Note 8 Pro) has to face some stiff competition, but its lesser brother stands in a zone of its own.

The Redmi Note 8 is a complete all-rounder and its probably the best smartphone under Rs.10,000 available in the market right now. It offers you an amazing display, the performance is good and so are the cameras. We tried hard to find some flaws in the smartphone but we failed as the device truly impressed us. If you are looking for a smartphone that allows you to multitask with ease, handles your games and comes with a good camera then Redmi Note 8 is your perfect choice under Rs. 10,000. Avoid the 6 GB RAM variant because at that price range there are more devices available that offer better specs but under Rs.10,000 this smartphone is a perfect choice for you. Overall the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 gets a thumbs up from us.

Redmi Note 8 is a clear upgrade over the Note 7 when you consider the phone costs exactly the same as its predecessor. For Rs 9,999, you get a smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 665 featuring a quad-rear camera setup with good primary sensor and a dedicated macro lens. The phone looks good, performs well, takes beautiful pictures, and the battery backup is nice as well. The Redmi Note 8 is not only a value for money phone in the budget segment but can also compete with some mid-range devices.

The Redmi Note 8 is a very good smartphone that falls just short of excellence. A lot of it has to do with the sheer amount of competition in the market. Now that consumers have umpteen options that deliver on features, hardware, and design, the Redmi Note 8 isn’t quite the standout device that the line-up stood once embodied.

Redmi lineup from Xiaomi has recently been extended to include the new Redmi Note 8 series. After thoroughly testing and utilizing the Redmi Note 8 that sits beneath Note 8 Pro, in terms of pricing as well as specs, here are our detailed thoughts. Redmi being a name synonymous with value, new Note 8 offers great hardware at a great price. It is important to mention that the Note name might be misleading at first as there is no stylus within the phone rather, it actually represents a larger-than-average display.

We're more positive about how the Redmi Note 8's base variant fares against its competition at the Rs. 9,999 price point than we are when considering the Rs. 12,999 price tag of the unit we've actually reviewed. The company has chosen its specifications wisely and while you could pick up the Realme 5 (Review) or Vivo U10 (Review) for less, you don't get the same combination of RAM, storage, or screen resolution.

The Redmi Note 8 gave mixed results in the camera department. Although, it delivers some good results in daylight conditions with photos coming out with good details and dynamic range is to the point. However, in low light conditions, the results are quite average. The photos came out to full of grains and noises were clearly visible in the images. The shots taken from 48MP camera delivered good results in low light conditions, though in daylight, there was not much of a difference. The selfie performance is decent in daylight, though in low light it surely shimmers.

Overall, it seems as though Xiaomi has done what it needs to do in terms of matching or exceeding the specifications that the competition offers for less than Rs. 10,000. However, real-world performance remains to be seen. The more premium variant that we're reviewing will of course have stronger competitors to fend off. Do stay tuned to Gadgets 360, as the full review of the Redmi Note 8 is coming up very soon.

While the display is lackluster, the rest of the package is good enough that you won’t mind that issue too much. The price of the phone makes it hard to ignore too: the phone is priced at Php Php 7,990 for the 3GB/32GB variant, Php 8,990 for the 4GB/64GB variant, and Php 9,990 for the 4GB/128GB variant.

If you have the money go with the Redmi Note 8 Pro but if Rs. 10,000 is max you can spend then Redmi Note 8 is the best option available, plus if you look at it there is nothing to complain – dedicated micro SD slot (check), IR Blaster (check), Fast charger in box (check).

Tracing back to the device, holding Redmi Note 8 in the hand, it feels quite premium and solid. The glass back has been a great design choice at this price-point as it gives users a sense of luxury once they hold the phone. Also, our Moonlight White color is amazing to look at with its subtle blue/purple gradient. Lastly, there is a gloss surround to the whole phone and it is curved outwards for better grip.

In general, the Redmi Note 8 completely negated the saying that “hundred yuan machine is equal to electronic waste”, and it is also another declaration of war for Redmi to all unreasonable premium, and also let users know how to spend money to buy benefits and Spend money to buy the difference in brand premiums.
