Reviews for the Realme 8i
Source: Trusted Reviews EN→zh-CN
From a certain angle the Realme 8i feels like a somewhat unnecessary addition to the four-strong Realme 8 range, which perhaps explains its limited availability. It’s a competent phone all the same, with the largest and most fluid display in the family, though it’s not quite up there with the best cheap phones around. Meanwhile, its large battery comfortably lives up to the Realme 8 and Realme 8 5G in terms of two-day potential. It’s a shame the charging speeds fall so far short of the best in the series, however. Otherwise, it’s an exercise in priorities. Performance is adequate, but you’ll have to make do without 5G. Similarly, you’ll get a reasonable 50MP main camera, but no ultra-wide. If display clarity is everything to you, then the Realme 8i is worthy of serious consideration. Otherwise, it’s another budget phone also-ran.

Okay, so finally let’s talk about the price. The realme 8i comes in two configurations: this 4GB + 64GB variant is priced at PHP 9,990, while the 6GB + 128GB variant is available for PHP 11,990. On its own, we can say that it’s a pretty impressive device as it can be relied upon for day-to-day casual use and even some slight gaming—plus the 120Hz refresh rate sure is icing on the cake. But as some of you may also be thinking, there are still better options within its price range like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 that offers an AMOLED display, 33W fast charging, and dual speakers. Nonetheless, the MediaTek Helio G96 on the realme 8i performs slightly better, so we still recommend this device especially if you’ve been a long-time realme user.

A few months back realme released the realme 8 series. Now they added a new device in that series, which is the realme 8i. It comes with more features that one can consider a good value for its price. It is equipped with a 120Hz display, and Helio G96 chipset, and a 5000mAh of battery. But how well will it perform on our gaming review? Watch the video to find out!

We found that the realme 8i is a great buy in our review for anyone looking for a value-packed smartphone in the Philippines. While it doesn’t have a wide-angle camera, its 50-megapixel snapper punches way above its weight class, producing photos that you’d typically expect from more expensive devices. The phone’s distinct look makes it stand out in a sea of similarly-priced phones, and its processing package offers fantastic value for anyone looking to make the most out of their money.

The Realme 8i smartphone consists of impressive features and comparatively better options than the Realme 8s. Except, if you’re looking for 5G connectivity, you’ll be disappointed. At the same time, the main selling point of the Realme 8i phone is its robust battery, advanced screen, and support for a personalized Realme user interface. Overall, the Realme 8i is a decent smartphone in the low-budget segment. But, there are some flaws that can be ignored if you look at its plus points and compare them to the price. There are only a few smartphones that can provide so many features in this price range. Still, if you’re looking for a better alternative, you can definitely take a look at the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10T smartphone.

The Realme 8i is something of a mixed bag. On the plus side is the affordable price, the 120Hz screen refresh rate, impressive battery life, dual SIM support plus MicroSD storage expansion, a competent main camera and a distinctive purple chassis colour (with black available if it's not to your taste). On the minus side is relatively slow 18W battery charging, a disappointing speaker and no 5G support. If your budget is tight and you don't need 5G, the Realme 8i is definitely worth considering.

Do not forget that the Realme 8i smartphone model is not a flagship, but belongs to the mid-budget class of devices. Therefore, this model will have both positive and negative sides. If we talk about the merits, the smartphone was equipped with an interesting IPS screen with Full HD + resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. I also liked how the user interface worked with its smooth and stable responsiveness. In addition, I liked the main camera module, which took good pictures in both good and low light. Well, of course, battery life had good performance during real use. As for the shortcomings, the device received not the most top-end processor, which showed itself not in a particularly positive way. For example, in heavy games, the smartphone immediately heated up and there were slight delays. But if you play simpler games, then I did not reveal any special problems. I was also frustrated by the lack of a wide-angle camera module.

If you want a budget smartphone with a high refresh rate display and powerful performance, the Realme 8i is a decent option at 12,999, but keep in mind that the camera isn't its most appealing feature. It's an excellent smartphone for everyday use because the battery lasts for a long time. Its use of the Helio G96 chipset allows it to operate well in everyday life. For the time being, I believe the Realme 8i is a good phone with a good blend of features. Sure, it's not the best phone in its price range, but for most people, it'll suffice.

The Realme 8i has been launched in the super-competitive sub-Rs. 15,000 segment in India, and has to fend off a lot of competition. What's more, that isn't limited to other manufacturers, since Realme itself sells multiple smartphones in this price segment. The strength of the Realme 8i is performance. Its MediaTek Helio G96 SoC and 120Hz display help deliver a smooth user experience. Battery life is good too, but the bundled 18W charger feels inadequate, especially when we've seen phones such as the Realme Narzo 20 Pro (Review) bundled with up to 65W chargers. The Realme 8i is not a perfect all-rounder, and its cameras fell short of my expectations. If photo and video quality aren't all that important to you, you could consider buying this phone, but if you would prefer something that does it all at this price level you could also consider the Realme 7 (Review) which is an older model but one step up in Realme's hierarchy.

Realme 8i at Rs 15,999 (6GB+128GB) offers decent gaming performance, good display and battery life. All these features make Realme 8i a preferred choice for someone looking for a budget-friendly gaming smartphone. The device’s camera offers satisfactory results overall. The handset could have done better in terms of audio. To wrap it up, Realme 8i with MediaTek Helio G96 octa-core chipset is a good buy when it comes to gaming smartphones in this price segment.

To wrap up this review, I’d say that the Realme 8i is a pretty decent budget phone. It performs admirably in all areas, and the fact that it brings a whole lot of improvements over its predecessor is a commendable effort by the company. Yet, the Redmi 10 Prime gives the 8i a serious run for its money, with nearly identical specs and a lower price tag. And if you’re intending on getting the 8i’s higher variation, I recommend adding a little more cash and going with the standard Realme 8 instead. With this, you’ll be getting better performance, cameras, and display for a comparable price. Finally, I would advise Realme to do something extra to make their next iterations of the ‘i’ series a compelling deal.

The Realme 8i is good at what it was made to do - offering an incredibly smooth Android+RealmeUI experience and snappy performance, it can last you impressively long with the 5,000mAh battery, and its camera is dependable day and night. We had nothing but positive impressions from the display, too, and it is one of the most adaptive on the market right now. The Realme 8i is not ideal, but no budget phone can be perfect. It doesn't offer an ultrawide shooter or 30W+ fast charging, and there is no stereo sound unless you plug some headphones into its 3.5mm jack. But hey, for as little as INR 13,999 or $190, the Realme 8i offers great design, screen and camera, and won't disappoint you with performance, connectivity and even speaker quality. If it ticks the right boxes on your checklist, the Realme 8i is a phone worth buying and having for your daily driver, and we do recommend it.

So should you buy the Realme 8i? The phone is available for Rs 13,999 for the 4+64GB variant and Rs. 15,999 for the 6+128GB variant. At this price, it faces some serious competition from one of the most popular devices in this segment – the Redmi Note 10, which comes with a Snapdragon 678 chipset and a Super AMOLED display. In fact, the 6+128GB variant of the 8i is priced very close to the company’s own Realme 8, which has 5G support and an 90Hz LCD display. That said, if you are looking for a device that offers great battery life, decent performance, capable cameras, and more, you can consider buying the Realme 8i. Yes, it also has its fair share of shortcomings like slower charging and a single speaker, but the Realme 8i is a pretty good smartphone for the price if you can overlook those issues.

So, where does that leave us? Well, the Realme 8i retails for Rs 13,999 and Rs 15,999 for the 4GB and 6GB RAM variants respectively. For the price, the smartphone brings good performance, a big 120Hz display, and solid battery backup to the mix. Of course, the handset’s chipset has to be tweaked to support graphically-intensive games better. That said, having tested Helio G95 and Snapdragon 662-based devices like the Redmi Note 10S and the Realme 7i, I can confidently say that the Helio G96 chip is, in fact, a better performing SoC – it just needs to be optimised better. Lest I forget, the handset’s virtual memory should come in clutch for buyers opting for the 4GB RAM variant as well.
