AMD Ryzen 9 7840HXDragon Range 系列 的高端笔记本处理器,拥有 12 个内核和超线程(SMT),这意味着它可以同时处理多达 24 个线程。该处理器的 12 个内核采用当前的 Zen 4 架构,主频从 2.9 GHz(基本主频)到 5.1 GHz(单核提升)不等。CPU 提供 12 MB 二级缓存和 64 MB 三级缓存(即总计 76 MB 缓存)。7840X 由三个芯片组组成,其中两个 CCD 集群最多有 8 个 CPU 内核,采用 5 纳米工艺(71 平方毫米),一个 IO 芯片采用 6 纳米工艺(122 平方毫米),全部在台积电生产。

Ryzen 9 的性能应明显快于旧版Ryzen 9 6980HX (顶级型号伦勃朗 H,8 个内核,最大主频 5 GHz)。这要归功于新增的内核、更高的时钟频率和改进的架构。与一年前的Ryzen 9 7845HX 相比,7840HX 的时钟频率降低了 100 MHz。

该芯片还集成了 4 个 USB 3.2 Gen2(10 Gbps)端口(没有 USB 4)、28 个 PCIe 5.0 通道(用于 GPU 和 SSD)、双通道 DDR5-5200 内存控制器和一个小型的 AMD Radeon 610M 图形卡(2CU, 400 - 2200 MHz)。

R9 7840HX 的指定 TDP 为 55 瓦,可配置为 45 至 75 瓦(cTDP)。
