It is 38.5x26x2 and weights 2.2kilos. Most of the connections are on the right side so if you wanted this could be close to a wall or partition on your left if you wanted. This nice looking notebook is also powerful and has an Full HD 1080P screen although it is only 15.6inches. The surprising thing is that it looks the right size even though the majority of 15.6inch offering give a much lower resolution.

We're really impressed with Acer's first proper foray into the gaming laptop market. The Aspire V15 Nitro is handsome, well built and is a competent performer in every task you're likely to throw at it. Not only that, it's also £50 cheaper than comparable efforts from Chillblast and Scan, although both the Chillblast Defiant 2 Mini and the Scan 3XS Graphite LG156 have much better collect and return warranties versus Acer's paltry one-year return to base cover. Nonetheless, for mid-range gaming performance, there isn't much that can beat the V15 Nitro and it wins our Best Buy award.

At first glance, the Aspire V Nitro design is on-point and understated, much unlike the lot of loud and boisterous gaming laptops. Better yet – despite a few hiccups – the rig seems to performs admirably for a machine starting at $1,099. While Acer doesn’t have a rich history in the gaming world, don’t count the company out yet before its (hopeful) triumphant return. I left the Nitro with just a small taste of its style and power. Now I, to keep the metaphor going, look forward to really biting into this mobile PC gaming machine to see what it’s capable of when it launches later this year.

Well, the new Acer V15 Nitro / VN7-591G gaming laptop deliver quite a blow. For around $1000, the V15 I7 version [probably] comes with an I7-4710HQ, GTX 860M GPU, 8GB RAM, 1TB SSHD and an 1080p IPS. This price is a projection of Czech prices, but I think it’s a reasonable speculation. So, for this price you get the same performance as other 15.6″ gaming laptops, but also an IPS display.

Design and build quality are in line with expectations for a midrange laptop, while Intel and nVidia processors are also from the higher end of modern midrange laptops. At only around three hours, battery life was poor, suggesting this model will be mostly tethered to the mains. The display is the standout feature with great image quality, even if it doesn't lend itself to gaming at its 4K native resolution. Nor indeed would this laptop play our 4K sample video files properly, which makes it hard to recommend this 4K laptop for watching UHD 4K video or playing games at 4K resolution.

The Acer Aspire V Nitro 15 Black Edition is one of the best deals on the market right now. It's decent in all respects (picture quality, processing, games, manufacturing...) and doesn't really have any major shortcomings, just some bits that are less optimised than others. Overall, this is a good all-rounder of a laptop.

Acer’s Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition delivers on the promise of 4K in a laptop. While it’s arguable the resolution isn’t needed on a 15.6-inch display (Apple’s Retina resolution of 2,880×1,800 already obscures pixels nicely) that dispute can be left for another day. The V15’s display is close to perfection. I fell in love with it.

So, here we are again at the end of a review. I'm pretty sure you all know what's about to happen, so take a read or skip to the bottom to see the bottom line ranking. Let's talk performance. The V Nitro first and foremost is a gaming system. It's being marketed as such, so it better perform as such. And indeed it does. We see decent gaming performance, though it could always be improved by including a faster GPU. However, with the GPU used, gaming performance is plenty for a system that is made to go on the road easily.

The Acer’s good specification means it’s got enough power for gaming and demanding work, and it’s backed up by reasonable ergonomics and a good screen quality. Its thermal performance and battery life let it down, though, and hardcore users won’t be sated by its keyboard or trackpad. It’s a decent general-purpose notebook, but gaming laptops, hybrids and Ultrabooks are better options if you’ve got particular tasks in mind.

While manufacturers like Samsung and Apple battle for supremacy in the luxury ultrabook market, Acer has carved a niche for itself by building affordable, entry-level laptops and Chromebooks. The Aspire V 15 Nitro Black Edition offers solid 1080p gaming performance, excellent audio, and a comfy keyboard, but suffers from short battery life and limited Wi-Fi range.

No, bloatware isn’t the end of the world. You can spend an hour uninstalling all of the bloatware that comes preinstalled on the Aspire V 15 Nitro. You could also start over with a clean install of Windows 8 if you have a installation disk at home. We simply have trouble reconciling that Acer built this laptop specifically for gamers and several of these applications interfere with gameplay. In short, there is no excuse for having this much junk preinstalled from the factory on a laptop designed for gamers and priced at more than $1,000.

The 15.6-inch non-touchscreen display running at 1920 x 1080 did a solid job of displaying high definition video although we expected better. At this size, we’d have though Acer would have delivered a higher resolution display at this price range. However, sound quality from the inbuilt speakers was excellent, making the Aspire V Nitro 15 great for watching movies and gaming.

There are several entry-level gaming systems currently available, but the Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-75S2) looks to be the best of the bunch right now. With a solid component selection and feature list matched by excellent performance and decent battery life, the Aspire V 15 Nitro easily pushes past our previous entry-level Editors' Choice, the MSI GX70 3Be-007US, and even makes a good run at more expensive systems, like the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K. With that sort of showing for such a reasonable price, the Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-75S2) easily earns our Editors' Choice entry-level gaming laptop.

Although there are things that we would like to change like the problematic servicing and port location, Aspire V 15 Nitro has managed to become perhaps the most lucrative gaming notebook on the market. At the time of publication of the review, the position of VN7 in our ranking of most affordable gaming laptops is number four, with 2% behind Y50. Given the presence of an IPS screen, however, the battle becomes quite fierce. In front position is another Acer model in two modifications, which undoubtedly is great for its price, but its graphics performance is much lower.

The Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition is basically a desktop replacement squeezed into the body of a stylish thin-and-light notebook. And a fairly powerful one at that. Though its mid-level Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M graphics will hold you back some and its battery life could be better, the Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition has a top-notch screen and a potent component combo for work and entertainment.

Acer's Aspire V15 Nitro provides another mostly solid gaming laptop option to choose from near the $1000 mark. It's a capable machine, with a very good GPU and a speedy processor that work in tandem to display flashy 3D games with strong detail and fluid motion. Granted, it's not a top-tier device, and the performance in more recent games like Far Cry 4 shows how more demanding games are starting to push it to the limit with higher graphics settings.

Both notebooks are very good, they have great screens, CPU and GPU performance. They both feature quality build and high specs, but have very different designs, both looking very good. With very similar specs the notebooks produced nearly identical results on our tests and benchmarks, even though Y50’s CPU has some throttling issues.

The Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition remains one of the best choices for a budget gaming laptop on the market and with the refreshed series – this machine gets even better. The design is almost perfect, just the port placement could be better, but still features a high-quality build. The keyboard is also nearly perfect with the red LED backlight. They provide good tactile feedback and the keys are excellent not only for gaming, but even for typing. It’s a good thing that Acer kept the high-quality IPS panel, but this one differs from the original version from last year. Besides the good color accuracy, high contrast and high maximum brightness, this panel uses PWM (pulse-width modulation) across all brightness levels, thus making the user experience less desirable.

Often, upgrading a lower-tier product with premium components results in a better end product, but for the Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-70JY), that's not the case. The increased RAM and storage capacity is a small change, and most of the higher price is attributable to the new display. The 4K display looks great, but the fact that the gaming hardware can't take advantage of it makes it difficult to justify, and contributes the shorter battery life. If you really want the Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro design, do yourself a favor and stick to the less expensive Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-75S2), our Editors' Choice for entry-level gaming laptops, which offers better performance in gaming and longer battery life.

Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro is priced at Rs 1,10,000 and going by the prices charged by gaming laptops the pricing is at par, considering you are getting a 4K display. Most gaming monitors offer a full HD display. The Nitro offers a good display with excellent viewing angles. Of course, the gaming performance at 4K resolution with heavy games such as Metro: Last Light was not impressive at maxed out settings. You will need to keep settings low to get playable frame rates at 4K resolution. Games such as Bioshock Infinite are playable with settings maxed out at full HD resolutions.
