Ultimately, there’s still plenty of reasons to buy the ZenBook – if you want an ultraportable that delivers on ultraportable aspects and value, the UX425E does deliver great battery life, screen quality and ergonomics in a good-looking package.

I do think that the ASUS ZenBook 14 UX425EA is a great laptop priced at RM4699. It packs a nice punch, thanks to the 11th Gen Intel Core processor under the hood. It is perfect for everyday productivity, and even some gaming if you feel like it. The only issues with it aside from the headphone jack is the non-upgradeable 8GB RAM and the relatively slow storage at this price point. But 8GB RAM is still going to be sufficient for most users, and while I consider the storage slow because I have been playing with premium SSDs, it doesn’t impact the user experience in any meaningful way. It still boots up quick enough, and I guess that’s more important to most users.

Seriously though, we’re not going to do any serious gaming on this laptop anyway – so save some money because the price gap between the Core i5 and Core i7 models is a whopping RM700. Other aspects of the laptop seem to remain the same and that’s why I think the RM700 premium to get the Core i7 model is unjustified.

The ASUS ZenBook 14 UX425EA builds on the strengths of the ZenBook series – solid build quality paired with good design and expands on it with the powerful 11th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU with Iris Xe graphics. This ultrabook makes for a very portable and capable workhorse though local configurations only max out at 8GB RAM which makes it fall short of excellence.

Having used these ZenBooks UX425EA for the last weeks, I feel that they're quite a step-up from the models tested earlier in the year and well-balanced everyday ultrabooks. The premium metallic construction and compact/lightweight form-factor, the long-battery life, the solid screen choices, the excellent inputs, and the modern hardware are among their strong-selling points. They're not without their quirks, though, and might not be the ideal choice for those of your looking for the most powerful laptop within this segment, but otherwise, most potential buyers should have these ZenBooks on their list this year.

And then there’s the processor. Yes, it does deliver the best gaming performance we’ve seen from integrated graphics outside of a test design. But it’s a step forward, rather than the leap forward the 1185G7 appeared to be — and given the advantage that AMD has in multicore performance, I’m not sure that’s enough to crown Intel the new ultraportable king. Tiger Lake is certainly a more formidable competitor than Ice Lake was — but the battle isn’t over.
