I genuinely love the look and feel of it, and were I producing video content on a regular basis or less mobile day to day; I’d seriously consider it. For me, the combination of cost and weight were deterring factors. I just don’t need — want is a different story — the extra screen when I’m on the move. Let’s cut to the chase on this bit, $3,799.00 is a lot, and I mean a LOT to ask for a laptop. The technology here is mighty impressive, but it’s still a niche market. So, for most users, no, this is overkill and will needlessly drain your bank account. With the huge capabilities of the Zenbook Pro Duo, and multiple software vendors supporting the dual screen for increased functionality, including Office, Adobe products and some other video editing options, a lot is going for this if you’re a content creator or need of a genuine powerhouse of a laptop. If you’re keen then there’s a variety of retailers across Australia that you can hunt one down from.

The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is an impressive piece of engineering, but it’s still the classic solution looking for a problem. Asus’ efforts to make it easier to work with dual screens might make it a practical solution for some people, but others will find it more trouble and expense than it’s worth. It’s certainly not for everyone. But if you’ve always dreamed of carrying a dual monitor set-up in your carry bag, and you can live with the compromises that this demands, then the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED might be the notebook you’ve been waiting for. Cramming two screens into the one notebook, the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED could be the dream device you've been waiting for – but it demands compromises in return.

The Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a well-tuned instrument for content creators, excelling at a range of general office tasks as well as tasks that require a little more grunt like encoding and 3D rendering. The big attraction is the laptop’s dual displays. They’re the best ones we’ve used in an Asus Zenbook Duo laptop to date with a spate of year-on-year improvements that make the visuals more striking and the cross-screen integration easier than ever before.

Many creators require plenty of screen space to work on demanding projects. And when that happens, they need another monitor to have at least two screens to work with. The Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED (UX8402), in a way, solves that by incorporating a highly-functional second screen so they can multi-task better on the go. At PHP 159,995 (i7-12700H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD), yes it’s definitely pricey. And you can probably get more powerful hardware for the price if you consider other laptops, but I don’t think it can provide you the capabilities that the ‘Duo’ has, and that is where this laptop can get to charge a premium price.

The last stumbling block is its price. At S$3,699 this is the most expensive 14-inch dual-screen ZenBook yet. You could argue that the price is justified because of its improved hinge, better displays, and more powerful CPU and GPU combo, and yes, that's partly true. But the fact remains that its predecessor was a much more accessible S$2,598. Now that it's over a grand dearer, I'm afraid it becomes an even more niche proposition and rightly so as it's meant to tackle more professional work needs. To be clear, the ZenBook Duo 14 is still an available option for users who prioritise just having dual screens and is suitable for most casual work needs. The new ZenBook Pro 14 Duo OLED offers a much more upgraded experience in usability, and capability that you're paying a suitable price to match what it packs. If only the increase in price was less dramatic.

Finally, the price tag. RM8,999. Well, this is going to be a problem if you have already set your eyes on this unique dual-screen laptop. But the productivity improvement with this laptop comes in a slightly different way than you might think of but the compactness of it is nothing to scuff at. And we can definitely game or create content on it too – which makes this laptop a truly unique experience.

That said, some problems persist. The most conspicuous one being the keyboard and trackpad. The location of both is not ideal and will require considerable effort to get used to. Furthermore, the trackpad is small. If it’s any consolation, at least ASUS nailed the feel of the keyboard. The other issue with the ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is battery life. Despite the rather sizeable 76Wh battery, this notebook lasted significantly shorter than its predecessor – over 200 minutes less. Granted, much of this can be attributed to the higher-resolution, brighter displays and the presence of a discrete GPU, but that’s a considerable drop in battery life. Portability is not this notebook’s strongest suit. In the end, despite the notable improvements, the ZenBook Pro 14 Duo still is a niche device that will likely appeal only to users who prioritise the dual displays over everything else. And if you are that kind of user, then you’ll find quite a lot to like about this notebook. As I said, the dual-display experience is better than ever and so is performance.
