The Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED offers an interesting alternative take on a standard laptop. The secondary ScreenPad Plus has its uses, but also creates some significant compromises -- notably the loss of a wrist rest, touchpad issues, and significant battery drain. If you can make good use of the second screen, those compromises may be acceptable. However, this probably isn't a device for mainstream users.

The Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo OLED has a plethora of high-end features, from a dazzling OLED screen to the high-speed Intel chip. The laptop’s dual-screen design also opens up an endless number of multitasking possibilities, especially if you’re a professional creator. However, the poor battery life and cramped keyboard are big sacrifices for those dual-screen delights.

While the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED loses some points thanks to its cramped keyboard and tiny, right-handed touchpad, it won me over both with its speedy processor and by providing a genuinely useful second screen. It’s great for anyone who loves a double-monitor setup but needs to move about a lot or hot-desk, especially if they’re happy to use an external mouse. Lap users beware, however; the lack of wrist-rest may leave you hunching your hands and wrists like a T-rex.

ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a great tool for creators of any kind, impressing with its capabilities and attention to detail. Musicians and designers, architects and programmers, bloggers and SMMers, photographers, retouchers and video editors, game or app developers – these are just a small fraction of those for whom this laptop will become a functional and trouble-free workstation. Despite the placement of the keyboard and touchpad, they are very convenient for desktop use, and the right-handed touchpad shift is a godsend for right-handed people. We should also mention the high-quality audio system, a well-designed set of noise-canceling microphones, a reliable all-metal case that meets the MIL-STD-810H standard, stylish design and excellent packaging. To be honest, I’m sorry to part with this laptop – it’s unsurpassed in every aspect. Objectively, there is nothing to criticize ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED for. For a body that still shows a little bit of “fingers”, an average level of autonomy, or problematic work on your lap? It’s just ridiculous. So, yes, this is an almost perfect laptop (almost, because there are no ideals) that will come in handy for both work and leisure. The only issue I have with the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo is its compact keyboard. The secondary screen, which Asus calls ScreenPad Plus, takes up a lot of space, and as a result, the company compromised on the keyboard experience. The keys are tightly placed, and the key travel is also quite average. The trackpad is on the extreme right, which I found confusing and slightly impractical. This issue is partially fixable with an external mouse and keyboard, but I wish for a more thoughtful design for users who don't want to carry these accessories. However, the dual screens on the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo are highly useful, and support for touch control is an added bonus. Be it editing, gaming, or daily productivity, the laptop handles it efficiently. Since I haven't tried the base model, I can't say whether it is worth the price. The top model with an Intel Core i9 processor is undoubtedly expensive, but the experience is totally worthwhile.

The Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a really impressive laptop for a lot of reasons: for the power and the performance that you get out of its internal specs, for the quality of the design and the fit and finish of the hardware, and for the stunning 14.5-inch main OLED screen – no matter what you get up on the display of this laptop, it's guaranteed to look fantastic. Add in some very respectable gaming credentials in a thin and light package, and you can see there's lots of appeal. As we said up top, it's the laptop's second display that's most important here. You have to decide whether it's worth the trade-offs that come with it, and we're not sure that it is for most people. Credit to Asus though for trying something different and sticking with it through several incarnations of the Duo laptop line, as it does at least give serious multitaskers a way to do that more easily without a second monitor. It's perhaps telling that we had the second screen turned off for a lot of the time that we were using the Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo OLED.

The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is no doubt a very capable laptop. It has one of the best displays you can get, the performance is top-notch—at least for the high-end variant that I used—and you will get a second screen as well, provided you need something like this. But this laptop is not meant for everyone. It is not meant for someone who is just starting out as a ‘creator’. I would say this is for people who have been in the business of creating digital art or editing films for a while now and might be looking for something new or more powerful. This is ideally for someone who has spent a few years now on Adobe’s key apps be it Photoshop or Premiere Pro or Indesign. If you’re one of those and need a laptop with support for everything—be it a second screen, a touch-enabled main display, and a stylus—and do not wish to compromise on power, then the Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED does not disappoint. But for those who are just starting out, this might be a bit of an overkill.

The Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is unbeatable when it comes to versatility – it is simply the king of versatility. The luxury of a dual display setup in a standard 15-inch laptop form factor is still unbelievable. Not only that, both these displays are of the nicer kind. There's ample raw performance to tap and the best part is that you can shut it all like a normal laptop when you need to carry it around. However, there are some big caveats. Practicality isn't the best here, especially if you have to type a lot on your PC. The battery life is dismal as well when you compare it to a MacBook Pro 14-inch. Most importantly, the ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is expensive. The version that I tested at Rs. 224,990 is an overkill with its Core i9 processor and most buyers should be happy with the Core i5 variant. Even for power users, the choice of a single RTX 3050Ti GPU isn't enough and Asus should have offered options to go for the RTX 3070. Most importantly, the Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo still feels like a concept laptop with a lot of workarounds.

You see, the ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is built like a freaking tank! It shows zero flex from both the lid and the base. We are mesmerized by the engineering that went into designing this laptop. Its hinges are groundbreaking, while the tech behind the ScreenPad Plus is fantastic. ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED (UX8402)’s main touchscreen panel has a high resolution, comfortable viewing angles, excellent pixel response time, and a practically infinite contrast ratio. Furthermore, it covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. This results in a very attractive image, which is great for playing games and watching high-quality videos. Moreover, the “My ASUS” app offers a fantastic color-controlling feature called “Splendid”. It has some functions that are rare even for standalone monitors. Nevertheless, you can take advantage of decent I/O with two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, an HDMI 2.1, an audio jack, USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, and a MicroSD card reader. Plus, there is a stylus inside the package, as well as a dedicated collapsable stand.

Clearly a Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is not for everyone – but it’s still an amazing piece of work that really does make a huge difference to productivity. If you spend all your time in Premier Pro, or have worn down the alt-tab keys on your current laptop, that second screen will be a game-changer. Performance is also superb, even if it needs to crank the cooling fans to dramatic levels to keep temperatures in check. Battery life that isn’t so stellar, and an awkward keyboard layout are simply the prices you have to pay for a dual-screen setup.

While not a gaming machine or a content creation beast, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is fantastic for productivity on the move. For those like us who just need a little extra screen real estate during loadshedding or while travelling, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a gift from above. However, with pricing in the region of R45 000, this is a convenience you are really going to have to justify. Not that it will be tough to do so because the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a great notebook. We would love to see an option for a beefier GPU in future but we also understand that one can only cram so much power into a 14inch chassis. While it’s tough to recommend this notebook to all given its unique engineering, we can recommend the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED if you need two displays and you’re away from your desk more often than not. A fantastic notebook for productivity thanks to a secondary display. However, performance is let down by a slightly underpowered GPU albeit an understandable design choice.

When Apple announced its new MacBooks at WWDC earlier this week, I watched that announcement on a computer that does things no MacBook can. The new Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED from ASUS let me follow along with Apple’s announcement, while tweeting and taking notes, on two separate screens that live inside the same petite portfolio. And yet, if anything this new Zenbook amplifies the similarities between ASUS and Apple. Each manufacturer is refining what worked on its last generation of laptops, sanding over the rough edges to drop something fresh for 2022. And with the newest Pro Duo, the result is a familiar Zenbook that still manages to take dual displays to a new level. (You’ve just gotta be cool with a few crucial compromises.)

In the Pro Duo 14, Asus has done everything it possibly could to make a good, practical, usable dual-screen system. I legitimately think most problems that could’ve been fixed have been fixed. In our fairly critical review of the first-generation Zenbook Duo, Chaim Gartenberg wrote, “There is a great laptop buried within the raw clay.” Three years later, Asus has dug that laptop out. This is great. The story with Duo laptops from here on out may just come down to whether you like having a keyboard on the front of your deck. Which, given how many other issues these devices have had in the past, is a very good sign for their future.

The Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a fun option for creatives who can take advantage of the second display and super accurate stylus. Asus’s dual-display line of laptops continue to be perky performers that make some sacrifices (keyboard awkwardness and size) while creating options to improve creator's workflows. Both displays are gorgeous, responsive, and handy, the CPU and GPU offer peppy performance, with a winning audio experience you will enjoy. It's a solid laptop, but it’s still a niche laptop and you’ll need to consider whether the trade-offs for that unique dual-display are worth it for your usage.

I genuinely love the look and feel of it, and were I producing video content on a regular basis or less mobile day to day; I’d seriously consider it. For me, the combination of cost and weight were deterring factors. I just don’t need — want is a different story — the extra screen when I’m on the move. Let’s cut to the chase on this bit, $3,799.00 is a lot, and I mean a LOT to ask for a laptop. The technology here is mighty impressive, but it’s still a niche market. So, for most users, no, this is overkill and will needlessly drain your bank account. With the huge capabilities of the Zenbook Pro Duo, and multiple software vendors supporting the dual screen for increased functionality, including Office, Adobe products and some other video editing options, a lot is going for this if you’re a content creator or need of a genuine powerhouse of a laptop. If you’re keen then there’s a variety of retailers across Australia that you can hunt one down from.

The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is an impressive piece of engineering, but it’s still the classic solution looking for a problem. Asus’ efforts to make it easier to work with dual screens might make it a practical solution for some people, but others will find it more trouble and expense than it’s worth. It’s certainly not for everyone. But if you’ve always dreamed of carrying a dual monitor set-up in your carry bag, and you can live with the compromises that this demands, then the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED might be the notebook you’ve been waiting for. Cramming two screens into the one notebook, the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED could be the dream device you've been waiting for – but it demands compromises in return.

The Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a well-tuned instrument for content creators, excelling at a range of general office tasks as well as tasks that require a little more grunt like encoding and 3D rendering. The big attraction is the laptop’s dual displays. They’re the best ones we’ve used in an Asus Zenbook Duo laptop to date with a spate of year-on-year improvements that make the visuals more striking and the cross-screen integration easier than ever before.

Many creators require plenty of screen space to work on demanding projects. And when that happens, they need another monitor to have at least two screens to work with. The Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED (UX8402), in a way, solves that by incorporating a highly-functional second screen so they can multi-task better on the go. At PHP 159,995 (i7-12700H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD), yes it’s definitely pricey. And you can probably get more powerful hardware for the price if you consider other laptops, but I don’t think it can provide you the capabilities that the ‘Duo’ has, and that is where this laptop can get to charge a premium price.

The last stumbling block is its price. At S$3,699 this is the most expensive 14-inch dual-screen ZenBook yet. You could argue that the price is justified because of its improved hinge, better displays, and more powerful CPU and GPU combo, and yes, that's partly true. But the fact remains that its predecessor was a much more accessible S$2,598. Now that it's over a grand dearer, I'm afraid it becomes an even more niche proposition and rightly so as it's meant to tackle more professional work needs. To be clear, the ZenBook Duo 14 is still an available option for users who prioritise just having dual screens and is suitable for most casual work needs. The new ZenBook Pro 14 Duo OLED offers a much more upgraded experience in usability, and capability that you're paying a suitable price to match what it packs. If only the increase in price was less dramatic.

Finally, the price tag. RM8,999. Well, this is going to be a problem if you have already set your eyes on this unique dual-screen laptop. But the productivity improvement with this laptop comes in a slightly different way than you might think of but the compactness of it is nothing to scuff at. And we can definitely game or create content on it too – which makes this laptop a truly unique experience.

That said, some problems persist. The most conspicuous one being the keyboard and trackpad. The location of both is not ideal and will require considerable effort to get used to. Furthermore, the trackpad is small. If it’s any consolation, at least ASUS nailed the feel of the keyboard. The other issue with the ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is battery life. Despite the rather sizeable 76Wh battery, this notebook lasted significantly shorter than its predecessor – over 200 minutes less. Granted, much of this can be attributed to the higher-resolution, brighter displays and the presence of a discrete GPU, but that’s a considerable drop in battery life. Portability is not this notebook’s strongest suit. In the end, despite the notable improvements, the ZenBook Pro 14 Duo still is a niche device that will likely appeal only to users who prioritise the dual displays over everything else. And if you are that kind of user, then you’ll find quite a lot to like about this notebook. As I said, the dual-display experience is better than ever and so is performance.

Reviewing Asus' Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED (2023) laptop, specifically the UX8402 with Intel's 13th Gen Core i9 and RTX 4050 GPU. With its slick dual display design and beefy performance, is the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED the best notebook for editing and creative tasks? It's certainly powerful enough to cope with any apps and even some pretty heavy gaming, running the likes of Returnal with a smooth frame rate. Asus' cooling tech keeps the Zenbook Pro 14 Duo 2023 from overheating under pressure, while the battery life is also decent considering the double displays. That main screen is a 14.5-inch OLED panel, which can faithfully reproduce colours and pump out eye pleasing HDR visuals. Underneath is a smaller 12.7-inch IPS screen with anti-glare coating.

The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo is a device that seems to be an outcome of this quest.
