While the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED loses some points thanks to its cramped keyboard and tiny, right-handed touchpad, it won me over both with its speedy processor and by providing a genuinely useful second screen. It’s great for anyone who loves a double-monitor setup but needs to move about a lot or hot-desk, especially if they’re happy to use an external mouse. Lap users beware, however; the lack of wrist-rest may leave you hunching your hands and wrists like a T-rex.

ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a great tool for creators of any kind, impressing with its capabilities and attention to detail. Musicians and designers, architects and programmers, bloggers and SMMers, photographers, retouchers and video editors, game or app developers – these are just a small fraction of those for whom this laptop will become a functional and trouble-free workstation. Despite the placement of the keyboard and touchpad, they are very convenient for desktop use, and the right-handed touchpad shift is a godsend for right-handed people. We should also mention the high-quality audio system, a well-designed set of noise-canceling microphones, a reliable all-metal case that meets the MIL-STD-810H standard, stylish design and excellent packaging. To be honest, I’m sorry to part with this laptop – it’s unsurpassed in every aspect. Objectively, there is nothing to criticize ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED for. For a body that still shows a little bit of “fingers”, an average level of autonomy, or problematic work on your lap? It’s just ridiculous. So, yes, this is an almost perfect laptop (almost, because there are no ideals) that will come in handy for both work and leisure. ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a great tool for creators of any kind, impressing with its capabilities and attention to detail. The only issue I have with the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo is its compact keyboard. The secondary screen, which Asus calls ScreenPad Plus, takes up a lot of space, and as a result, the company compromised on the keyboard experience. The keys are tightly placed, and the key travel is also quite average. The trackpad is on the extreme right, which I found confusing and slightly impractical. This issue is partially fixable with an external mouse and keyboard, but I wish for a more thoughtful design for users who don't want to carry these accessories. However, the dual screens on the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo are highly useful, and support for touch control is an added bonus. Be it editing, gaming, or daily productivity, the laptop handles it efficiently. Since I haven't tried the base model, I can't say whether it is worth the price. The top model with an Intel Core i9 processor is undoubtedly expensive, but the experience is totally worthwhile.

The Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a really impressive laptop for a lot of reasons: for the power and the performance that you get out of its internal specs, for the quality of the design and the fit and finish of the hardware, and for the stunning 14.5-inch main OLED screen – no matter what you get up on the display of this laptop, it's guaranteed to look fantastic. Add in some very respectable gaming credentials in a thin and light package, and you can see there's lots of appeal. As we said up top, it's the laptop's second display that's most important here. You have to decide whether it's worth the trade-offs that come with it, and we're not sure that it is for most people. Credit to Asus though for trying something different and sticking with it through several incarnations of the Duo laptop line, as it does at least give serious multitaskers a way to do that more easily without a second monitor. It's perhaps telling that we had the second screen turned off for a lot of the time that we were using the Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo OLED.

The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is no doubt a very capable laptop. It has one of the best displays you can get, the performance is top-notch—at least for the high-end variant that I used—and you will get a second screen as well, provided you need something like this. But this laptop is not meant for everyone. It is not meant for someone who is just starting out as a ‘creator’. I would say this is for people who have been in the business of creating digital art or editing films for a while now and might be looking for something new or more powerful. This is ideally for someone who has spent a few years now on Adobe’s key apps be it Photoshop or Premiere Pro or Indesign. If you’re one of those and need a laptop with support for everything—be it a second screen, a touch-enabled main display, and a stylus—and do not wish to compromise on power, then the Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED does not disappoint. But for those who are just starting out, this might be a bit of an overkill.

The Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is unbeatable when it comes to versatility – it is simply the king of versatility. The luxury of a dual display setup in a standard 15-inch laptop form factor is still unbelievable. Not only that, both these displays are of the nicer kind. There's ample raw performance to tap and the best part is that you can shut it all like a normal laptop when you need to carry it around. However, there are some big caveats. Practicality isn't the best here, especially if you have to type a lot on your PC. The battery life is dismal as well when you compare it to a MacBook Pro 14-inch. Most importantly, the ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is expensive. The version that I tested at Rs. 224,990 is an overkill with its Core i9 processor and most buyers should be happy with the Core i5 variant. Even for power users, the choice of a single RTX 3050Ti GPU isn't enough and Asus should have offered options to go for the RTX 3070. Most importantly, the Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Duo still feels like a concept laptop with a lot of workarounds.

You see, the ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is built like a freaking tank! It shows zero flex from both the lid and the base. We are mesmerized by the engineering that went into designing this laptop. Its hinges are groundbreaking, while the tech behind the ScreenPad Plus is fantastic. ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED (UX8402)’s main touchscreen panel has a high resolution, comfortable viewing angles, excellent pixel response time, and a practically infinite contrast ratio. Furthermore, it covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. This results in a very attractive image, which is great for playing games and watching high-quality videos. Moreover, the “My ASUS” app offers a fantastic color-controlling feature called “Splendid”. It has some functions that are rare even for standalone monitors. Nevertheless, you can take advantage of decent I/O with two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, an HDMI 2.1, an audio jack, USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, and a MicroSD card reader. Plus, there is a stylus inside the package, as well as a dedicated collapsable stand.

Clearly a Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is not for everyone – but it’s still an amazing piece of work that really does make a huge difference to productivity. If you spend all your time in Premier Pro, or have worn down the alt-tab keys on your current laptop, that second screen will be a game-changer. Performance is also superb, even if it needs to crank the cooling fans to dramatic levels to keep temperatures in check. Battery life that isn’t so stellar, and an awkward keyboard layout are simply the prices you have to pay for a dual-screen setup.

While not a gaming machine or a content creation beast, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is fantastic for productivity on the move. For those like us who just need a little extra screen real estate during loadshedding or while travelling, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a gift from above. However, with pricing in the region of R45 000, this is a convenience you are really going to have to justify. Not that it will be tough to do so because the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a great notebook. We would love to see an option for a beefier GPU in future but we also understand that one can only cram so much power into a 14inch chassis. While it’s tough to recommend this notebook to all given its unique engineering, we can recommend the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED if you need two displays and you’re away from your desk more often than not. A fantastic notebook for productivity thanks to a secondary display. However, performance is let down by a slightly underpowered GPU albeit an understandable design choice.

When Apple announced its new MacBooks at WWDC earlier this week, I watched that announcement on a computer that does things no MacBook can. The new Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED from ASUS let me follow along with Apple’s announcement, while tweeting and taking notes, on two separate screens that live inside the same petite portfolio. And yet, if anything this new Zenbook amplifies the similarities between ASUS and Apple. Each manufacturer is refining what worked on its last generation of laptops, sanding over the rough edges to drop something fresh for 2022. And with the newest Pro Duo, the result is a familiar Zenbook that still manages to take dual displays to a new level. (You’ve just gotta be cool with a few crucial compromises.)

In the Pro Duo 14, Asus has done everything it possibly could to make a good, practical, usable dual-screen system. I legitimately think most problems that could’ve been fixed have been fixed. In our fairly critical review of the first-generation Zenbook Duo, Chaim Gartenberg wrote, “There is a great laptop buried within the raw clay.” Three years later, Asus has dug that laptop out. This is great. The story with Duo laptops from here on out may just come down to whether you like having a keyboard on the front of your deck. Which, given how many other issues these devices have had in the past, is a very good sign for their future.

The Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a fun option for creatives who can take advantage of the second display and super accurate stylus. Asus’s dual-display line of laptops continue to be perky performers that make some sacrifices (keyboard awkwardness and size) while creating options to improve creator's workflows. Both displays are gorgeous, responsive, and handy, the CPU and GPU offer peppy performance, with a winning audio experience you will enjoy. It's a solid laptop, but it’s still a niche laptop and you’ll need to consider whether the trade-offs for that unique dual-display are worth it for your usage.

If you must have a dual-screen laptop in a portable 14-inch format, the 2022 ZenBook Pro 14 Duo is better than ever before, with excellent-quality displays, improved inputs and IO, and a major bump in performance and cooling capabilities over the previous generations. Just make sure you understand and accept the compromises of this form factor, derived from having the keyboard placed in the lower half of the chassis.
