The Dell Inspiron 7486 Chromebook 14 2-in-1 is a well-built, well-designed Chromebook. Thanks to its Intel Core i3-8130U CPU and gorgeous 14-inch FHD display with pen support, the Inspiron 7486 Chromebook may be the best alternative to the Pixelbook on the market.

I think the Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 checks all of the right boxes. Google's Chrome browser is there for most of the work, and there are Android apps for the rest. It's a pretty nice hybrid solution, although as I noted above, it does need some work.

The Inspiron 16 introduces some notable firsts for the series including a 3K 16-inch display, GeForce RTX 3050 graphics, and a new metal chassis design. Most of it is impressive, but the Nvidia GPU in particular falls a bit short.

Instead, the buying decision comes down to the cheaper Dell or the Huawei MateBook D 16. Each holds advantages over the other. The Dell isn't as quick in everyday tasks but is a far better gaming system, its battery life is a fraction longer and the screen resolution is higher. But the MateBook is 300g lighter, more enjoyable to use thanks to its screen and keyboard quality, and enjoys the faster CPU. It's close, but the D 16 remains our top budget choice.

And that’s all about the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus. It’s a fairly good laptop overall – but the price of RM6,199 (the config we have is at RM6,399) is at a premium compared to other similar laptops. However, like any other Dell product, some can argue that the warranty service that Dell offers is worth the price – and I agree.

Whichever way you look at it, the Inspiron 16 Plus is a lot of laptop for the money and is the most usable budget workstation I’ve come across. I’ll go further and say it’s the most competent multi-purpose laptop for around £1,000 that you can buy. There’s nothing it can’t do. Demanding productivity? Check. Excellent media playback? Check. Decent Triple-A gaming performance? Check. The fact that all that ability is wrapped up in a smart aluminium body with a great keyboard and ample opportunities to upgrade post-purchase are just the cherries on the cake. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

The Inspiron 16 Plus 7610's large screen makes for a sizeable and weighty laptop, but there's plenty to like here, including a good display, all-day battery life and plenty of ports and connectors. As long as you don't expect too much from the speakers or need a touch screen, this could be a worthwhile purchase for power users and creators.

The Inspiron 16 Plus proves there is a market for professional laptops that are squarely aimed at budding content creators. This is not the ultimate content creator machine and Dell isn’t claiming that way. Notebooks like these weren’t highlighted previously by the brands, so it was a bit of a surprise when Dell sent the Inspiron 16 Plus to review. A device like the Inspiron 16 Plus comes with a lot of superior features like a 3K display, excellent built and mid-level graphic cards along the promise of better performance and extended battery life without costing much. I see the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus is squarely aimed at Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M1 processor.

The Dell Inspiron 16 Plus has a lot going for it, from its strong performance to its 3K display, and that's all thanks to its current $1,199 price point. However, it's tough to get over a poor keyboard and congested speakers. You can opt for the Surface Laptop Studio, which will provide a better display, longer battery life and a more comfortable keyboard. But you'll be in the $2,000 range at checkout. Overall, the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus isn't perfect but it's a decent option for the performance it can offer you.

There are plenty of 15.6-inch laptops, but 16-inch models like the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus are something of a rarity. The most notable being Apple's MacBook Pro, but there's also the excellent LG Gram 16 and Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Extreme, as well as a handful of gaming laptops. Those models all have something else in common besides their screen size, though: They're more expensive than the Inspiron 16 Plus, which starts under $1,000. The 16-inch display is a great size since the laptop is barely bigger than a 15.6-inch model, but you get more room for work and typically a roomier keyboard and touchpad along with it. That's the case with the Inspiron 16 Plus. The body is roughly the same size and weight as the 16-inch MacBook Pro, and its aluminum body, slim screen bezels and clean design give it a higher-quality look and feel you might not expect from an Inspiron laptop. And I haven't even mentioned what you can get inside yet.

A powerful, reasonably priced big-screen laptop, the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus is equally capable of rendering graphics-intensive games at 1080p as it is playing a 4K movie on an airplane tray table. The laptop occupies a small slice of the market between Dell's premium large notebooks (like the XPS 17) and bargain models (like the Inspiron 5000 series). So far, the Inspiron 16 Plus (starts at $940.79; $1,352.39 as tested) has the market mostly to itself, but we expect new entrants over the next year. But with this laptop as good as it is—our new Editors' Choice award winner for midrange desktop replacements—there's little reason to wait.

For $1,050, you’ll want to love the laptop you buy. We can really only recommend the Inspiron 14 7420 2-in-1 to those who will frequently take advantage of its 180-degree flexibility and the touchscreen. As a laptop alone, it’s a bit disappointing for the price. If you’re primarily looking for a tablet with an attached keyboard that you don’t have to remember to charge, this could be the device for you, especially if you find it on sale. If you think you’ll only occasionally use your device’s touchscreen, you might like to save a couple of hundred dollars with the MSI Summit 13 Evo Flip, which also boasts 180-degree flexibility, stylus compatibility, and an Intel i7 processor. You could even enjoy a Microsoft Surface Pro 9, which offers similar specs at about the same price (or cheaper) and can be used with a detachable Bluetooth keyboard. If you’re not insistent on having a touchscreen, you can find a much better laptop in Apple’s 2020 MacBook Air M1, which we’ve boldly (but confidently) referred to as “the best laptop you can buy.” If you’re not into the Apple ecosystem, the older Acer Swift X packs a lot of speed into a comfortable body with 9+ hour battery life (and you even get an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti). Meanwhile, the Dell XPS 13 9315 can hit double the Inspiron 14’s battery life for $1,099. At the time of publication, the Inspiron 14 7420 is on sale for $750 via Dell’s website. At that price, it’s easier to recommend; otherwise, we’d suggest looking into a few other options before making your final decision.

With its solid construction, respectable performance, and moderate price, the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is a worthy candidate for a student or individual seeking a versatile convertible laptop, questions about the display notwithstanding. Were Dell to offer an alternate display, this unit could be an Editors' Choice candidate. Or a sale on Dell.com (and there are many; prices fluctuate all the time) could make it more of a value on any given day. But even without that, the Inspiron 14 is worth your consideration, especially if you'll use it mostly indoors.

As I mentioned throughout this review, there are pros and cons to this laptop, and those apply to different use cases, so it’s not for everyone. Probably the biggest factor to consider is the display. If colors really matter to your workflow, then this is not the laptop for you. If you’re looking for something for work, then the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is pretty sweet.

The Inspiron 14 7420 2-in-1 takes a step back in performance and battery life from the previous generation while retaining the same subpar display. It’s attractively priced at $1,050, but you’re making too many compromises. While I was able to recommend that last version, this one doesn’t make the cut. It would be worth spending a few hundred dollars more to get a better laptop, or even a few hundred dollars less for laptops that perform as well even though they’re based on older CPUs. Or, you can wait for the $1,000 laptop class to catch up to Intel’s 12th-gen wave.

While a redeeming factor can be found in the reasonable $700 price tag, I would much rather opt for a laptop with better performance specs in lieu of the clunky 2-in-1 capabilities offered by the Dell Inspiron 14. As a master of none, the Inspiron 14 fails to satisfy any area of productivity, gaming, or media enjoyment. If the 2-in-1 functionality is non-negotiable, and you can find it on sale, the Inspiron 14 may be a worthwhile purchase. Otherwise, I would recommend steering clear and spending your money elsewhere. Dell's Inspiron 14 2-in-1 tries to do too many things at once. In its efforts, it falls short of establishing itself as a satisfactory productivity machine, gaming laptop, or 2-in-1 tablet. It has a few redeeming qualities, like a springy keyboard and a sleek design, but they can't save the Inspiron 14 from being spread too thin.

The Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is a decent enough Windows 11 computer for browsing the web, watching videos or for work. The best thing about this device is its affordable price if you go with the entry-level AMD model. Other than that, it’s decidedly unremarkable in most respects — as is usually the case with the Inspiron lineup. If you’re willing to spend a few hundred dollars more, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 starts at $899 and features better performance, a more vibrant display and better build quality. Those who prefer an Apple laptop and don’t care about 2-in-1 functionality would do well with the MacBook Air M1, which costs $999 but is frequently discounted to $899. Even if the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 isn’t exactly inspiring, I’d recommend it for people on a strict budget.

We see no shame in an economy laptop missing the four-star mark. Frankly, we considered giving the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 three-and-a-half stars for its low price, competitive performance, and long battery life. Unfortunately, working with a screen that can't deliver at least 300 nits of brightness is simply no fun to the point of detrimental. Still, if you're looking for a convertible laptop on a tight budget, it's worth keeping an eye on Dell's sales and discounts. That Lavender Blue model is fairly tempting.

The Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is an okay laptop at $650, but it’s not good enough at $950. And even at its entry-level price, it’s beaten soundly by the Asus ZenBook 14 OLED which starts out just slightly more expensive with a gorgeous OLED display. It’s an odd coincidence that the last laptop I reviewed, the Lenovo Flex 5i 14, was almost identical in its overall value and received a very similar review. Sure, you’ll get competent productivity performance from the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 and great battery life. Those are major plusses in its favor. But the overall construction and poor display hold it back from a recommendation.
