Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

The frequency of 200 Hz is relatively low, so sensitive users will likely notice flickering and experience eyestrain at the stated brightness setting and below.

Flickering occurs even at high brightness setting and may have an effect on the user during everyday use.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8705 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured.

上周的惠普 EliteBook 745 G3评测引起了很多关于低价位高端商务笔记本电脑的讨论。由于延续了EliteBook 800系列的大部分设计亮点,745 G3具备与高端产品竞争的必要特质。不过,搭配AMD Pro硬件而非英特尔处理器,它的成本低于同类产品。今天的测试机将这个概念更进一步,采用了较为低价的屏幕面板,从而将整体售价降低到了1049美元(约6898人民币)。除此之外,EliteBook 745 G3依然搭配了出色的键盘和触控版,诱人的坚固机身,高性能,可维护升级空间和出色的质保方案。

EliteBook 745 G3的最大优势依然是牺牲一部分运算性能和电池续航——还有屏幕品质——而保证其它的重要商务特质,最终降低整机的售价。

它的最大缺点仍然是来自性能和电池续航。采用28纳米制程技术,AMD的最新APU——尽管在显卡性能上有了大幅提高同时十分有竞争力——仍然无法和高效的英特尔芯片相抗衡。不过对于一般商务用户这到底会不会造成问题又是另一码事了。对于那些每天大部分时间都连接电源使用,而主要使用普通办公软件的用户来说,EliteBook 745 G3可能是个合理的选择。
