The Spectre x360 is not just another run of the mill laptop. Much like Apple's offerings, it feels special and is crated with exquisite attention to detail - reason enough to buy it for many. The sleek and svelte design is paired to a sharp and vivid display, an ergonomic keyboard, good connectivity options that do not leave users with dongles in their bags and great performance.

The HP Spectre X360 is currently the best 2-in-1 ultraportable we have laid our hands on in recent times. Be it design, performance or even battery life, the Spectre nails it perfectly. However, there are minor heating issues and it comes witth a high price tag.

This is the third time we've reviewed the 13.3-inch Spectre x360, and the third time it's walked away with an Editors' Choice award. We prefer Microsoft's more costly Surface Book for serious sessions of artistic pen input, but as a daily productivity partner the HP is hard to beat.

Before the ride, we had the opportunity to try out the HP Spectre x360 (Amazon | Lazada), which has been refreshed with the new 7th Generation Intel Core i7 processors (codenamed Kaby Lake). We had enough time to do a short hands-on preview video of the experience. Check it out!

If you’re in the market for a 2-in-1 laptop, it’s hard to look past the excellent HP Spectre x360. It’s not a perfect convertible, but its solid feature set, fantastic hardware, and affordable price make it the best option currently available.

Other than that, you’d be hard pressed to find any fault with HPs design decisions when it comes to the 15-inch Spectre x360. The Spectre x360 15-inch comes highly recommended, and so far it’s the laptop to beat this year. Few companies will be able to deliver a product with as many compelling features at HP’s price point.

The real question we have about HP’s Spectre x360 isn’t whether it’s the best convertible laptop out there—we’re wondering if it’s the best ultrabook laptop period. With its reduced weight and size, it’s a vast improvement on the original Spectre x360.

If you've been following along, then you probably know how this conclusion is going to go. The HP Spectre x360 is definitely among the best laptops on the market right now. It's pretty inexpensive as well, starting at $1,149 but offering 16GB RAM, 512GB storage, and a Core i7 for just $1,299.

When Intel introduced Kaby Lake processors for notebooks a few months ago, the company's goal was to focus on targeting consumers mostly upgrading 5-year old notebooks, as these would be the people most likely to gain the most performance benefits from an incremental product refinement. Our original ASUS ZenBook UX31E falls into this group, as it was one of the first ultrabooks to be announced during CES 2012. ASUS did an exceptional job delivering a sleek and portable design that has been surprisingly scarcely matched ever since, delivering a 2.87-pound chassis with a 0.7-inch midway height. The processor technology going from a dual-core Sandy Bridge 1.7GHz chip (2.7GHz Turbo) to a dual-core Kaby Lake 1.7GHz chip (2.7GHz Turbo) has been enough to warrant an upgrade with noticeable productivity benefits.

That's not to say there are no improvements -- Windows Hello is a treat, as are the faster SSD speeds, longer battery life and wide viewing angles. But if our main complaint about last year's model was that it was slightly heavy compared with the competition, it would seem that HP accepted some compromises in the name of shedding a few ounces.

The Spectre x360 is one of those rare laptops that takes all of the same parts as everyone else and combines them together into something greater than their sum. Perhaps it’s time that Dell, Lenovo, and even Apple started to take note.

The refreshed HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 laptop is a slimmer, lighter, and more powerful iteration of one of the tech giant's most popular and best-rated notebooks. Packing Intel's latest seventh-generation processors, the competitively priced newcomer aims to add to the popularity of its predecessor in today's crowded market for convertible laptops.

The new HP Spectre x360 is an excellent laptop with a lot to offer in a small package, but it's only incrementally better than the previous model, and leaves out some useful features.

It's not easy following up a hit. (Just ask Apple, whose new MacBook Pros have been criticized for a 16GB RAM ceiling and lack of legacy ports.) HP has done a model job of it with the second-generation Spectre x360. For a few, the absent SD card slot will be a deal-breaker, and some more will look elsewhere for a higher-resolution screen. But for most shoppers, the new Spectre joins the best two or three of Lenovo's thousand Yogas (say, the 900S, 910, and X1) as the most desirable 2-in-1's.

The HP Spectre x360 can come off as a bit drab compared to an Acer Spin 7, Asus Zenbook, or Dell XPS 13. Those competitors all do at least one thing better than the x360.

Fast performance, long battery life and a comfy keyboard in a sleek, flexible package — what more could you want from a 2-in-1 work companion? Enterprise customers who need business-class security and durability credentials might want to look at the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, though that system is a lot pricier (starts at $1,550) and not as portable as the Spectre x360 (starts at $1,050). Independent workers who want the best 2-in-1 laptop on the market should buy HP's laptop without a second thought.

While the Surface Book retains its place as an aspirational convertible notebook in Microsoft’s Windows ecosystem, delivering enticing features to creative professionals, HP’s Spectre x360 is a notebook built for everyday consumers. Sure, the device lacks some of the glitzier features of its more expensive rival—like a detachable display and pen support for note-taking—but the Spectre more than makes up for it with an affordable price tag, compact footprint, long battery life and fast performance.

The refinements on this year’s model shows HP’s maturity as a company. The Spectre ships with the company’s new logo on the lid, and HP clearly listened to its customers to include only features that are relevant to a majority of its user base, stripping away unneeded extras that would have otherwise contributed to a higher price tag. If you choose the Spectre x360, you won’t get the highest resolution display, but HP’s no-frills approach produced one of the best and beautifully designed all-around convertibles at an affordable starting price.

With its top-tier performance, exquisite design, 10-hour battery life and convertible versatility, the Spectre x360 isn't just the best 2-in-1 currently available; it might the best laptop HP has ever made. Yes, the hinge could be stiffer, and I wish HP hadn't ditched the SD card slot, but overall, the x360 is the convertible laptop to beat.
