Reviews for the Honor 9X Pro
As a subsidiary of the Huawei corporation, Honor must also limit itself to an operating system without Google Services. While this initially works well with EMUI 9.1.1 based on Android 9, some limitations will show up in the details. Our review shows what you can expect.

The lack of Google services is a fatal flaw from which the Honor 9X Pro can’t recover. Even if there were no decent alternatives available, the Honor 9X Pro still wouldn’t get a pass; the fact that there are plenty just compounds the issue. So far the Honor 9X Pro has launched in the UK, some of Western Europe, and several MEA countries. In most of those regions you can get the Realme X2 with 30W fast charging, an impressive quad camera, and an AMOLED display for around £50 extra. The equally impressive Realme 6 Pro is also available for the same £249 asking price. Other contenders include the Samsung Galaxy A51, which can be found for under £299 on sale. Motorola’s lower-end phones, such as the Moto G8 Plus and Motorola One Vision, are also worth a look if you value clean software at the cost of processing power. Check out our best phones under £300 list for more options, or our best phones under £500 guide if you’re tempted to spend a little more. The Honor 9X Pro is compelling as far as hardware is concerned.

Yet another stellar handset from Honor / Huawei. Gorgeous to look at, speedy, well-priced, great specs and battery. Use Petal Search and you can get nearly all your apps, but the lack of Google Play may be too much for some.

Knowing the price of something when I start reviewing is not my choice as it might predetermine the value score, here however I do know the price and ‘I do not believe it’ came immediately to mind. As always there must be minus points, now to try and find them.

It's surprisingly difficult to put a verdict on this phone. Truth be told, the HONOR 9X Pro could be this reviewer's personal choice if the Huawei AppGallery offered more high-quality games in its repertoire. However, since Huawei AppGallery is still relatively new, we are optimistic that more developers will make their games available on the platform soon.

The Honor 9X Pro has a high-end design and a decent camera set-up for a great price, but the lack of Google features do make this phone inaccessible for the everyday user.

It's a bit difficult to come up with an overall conclusion on this device. To be honest, the HONOR 9X Pro might be our choice if the Huawei AppGallery had a better list of games or apps. Nonetheless we believe that the Huawei AppGallery will get more great game developers soon and when it does it will really shine as a midrange gaming smartphone.

HONOR 9X Pro Review: A much-improved device with HMS 21At the price of RM999, the HONOR 9X Pro is a good option for those who want a midrange phone that can handle games well and last long. Although there’s no doubt that the HONOR 9X Pro wins over the 9X, it does have one downside that cannot be overlooked – it no longer uses Google Mobile Services. That being said, HUAWEI is expanding its AppGallery and there are many apps that can be sideloaded so it all boils down to how important and dependent you are on Google apps like Gmail, Google Drive and Google Maps.

The all-new HONOR 9X Pro. We did have a hands-on with the device not long ago, and it’s the first HONOR available in Malaysia to be using the Huawei Mobile Services, or HMS for short. This means there are no Google apps pre-installed, which severely affects the user experience.

Discounting the middling camera performance, the Honor 9X Pro is a compelling overall package as far as hardware is concerned. However, the lack of Google services makes it incredibly hard to recommend Honor's latest budget phone.

There’s not a whole lot in the Honor 9X Pro that’s different to the original device, but the few new and improved features and specs are warmly welcome. However, the lack of Google apps, and their replacement with Huawei Mobile Services, does mean not everyone will find this device easy to use.

The Honor 9X Pro is an impressively affordable smartphone aimed at those looking for great hardware without the typically high price tag. Looking at the spec sheet, it almost seems too good to be true: you get a good-looking screen, plenty of storage, a 48MP camera, a big battery, and a reasonably fast processor for just €249.

A glaring lack of Google apps and miniscule third party support cast a heavy shadow on what is an otherwise well-equipped mid-ranger. Here in Europe, the Pro is simply not as usable as the vanilla 9X.

We did like the Honor 9X Pro a lot once we removed ourselves from the "It's a Google's world" mindset. There is life after Google even if Huawei is yet to really prove that. And Amazon and the likes do help. We only hope for the video streaming issues to be resolved and this phone might actually be quite usable.

Based on our limited time with the device, the Honor 9X Pro seems like a high-performing mid-range smartphone with impressive internals and an eye-catching design. Unfortunately however, the lack of Google apps and services ultimately makes it a really tough sell, because you’ll likely have to miss out on some of your favourite apps.

This is a great device. If Huawei makes a deal with the U.S. government and Google can start selling Android devices to the Chinese company, you should totally buy the Honor 9X Pro if it's in your price range.

Unfortunately, the Honor 9X Pro otherwise grand entry into the market is marred by forces beyond it. It is, fairly or unfairly, tied to the fate of its parent company and the ever-changing whims of politics and trades. If Huawei and Honor ever overcome this challenge, then the Honor 9X Pro could very well rise to the top. But, by then, it might already be time for an Honor 10X Pro.

As a high-end model, the Honor 9X Pro also has a built-in 4000mAh battery while ensuring the thickness and feel of the body. This is also the fundamental guarantee for the outstanding performance of the Honor 9X PRO in terms of battery life. In addition, the 7nm process of the Kirin 810 processor uses a 2+6 size core configuration to flexibly allocate CPU resources according to different application requirements, and finally achieve the powerful endurance performance of the Honor 9X PRO. For mobile game enthusiasts, if you want a “game” phone with both performance and endurance, then the Honor 9X PRO will be a good choice.
