Flashy. As with its predecessor, the Honor 9 compels at first sight with its flashy design of dancing light reflections on the back. But is this all just smoke and mirrors, or can Honor's new flagship also convince with its dual camera and fast performance? We find out in the test. Update: firmware B150 adds support for VoLTE and VoWifi.

Honor 9 is an excellent device in all aspects although the price is a little expensive. Its great camera, brilliant performance, and stylish design make it the best buy. Those users who are looking for a flagship device rather than the famous brand’s smartphones must go for Honor 9.

The Honor 9 is an interesting case. It takes over from the Honor 8, a phone released in 2016 that sold at the same price and didn’t seem like an amazing buy at the time.

Its modular design divides opinion and few will bother with its extra components, but it’s a stylish phone with long battery life.

We're not alone in being puzzled by exactly what Huawei wants to do with the Honor range in the Western markets. Elsewhere, it sells buckets and promotes it heavily. Here, I suspect even Huawei doesn't know – hence the lack of promotion. Nonetheless, the Honor 9 is some of Huawei's best ideas, without the Leica branding (and royalty fees).

Designed for the young at heart (at whatever age), the Honor 9 is the latest smartphone in the range to join the Huawei family of products. With this particular model, Huawei has attempted to combine aspects of quality, appearance and a price point that should appeal to its designated market sector.

The Honor 9 delivers good performance and battery life, a decent 5.15-inch screen and an impressive dual camera setup. But how does it shape up versus its high-end Huawei P10 stablemate and the OnePlus 5, which is ploughing a similar 'affordable flagship' furrow?

In the end, the Honor 9 is an attractive option for international smartphone users who want a phone that's compact, a reasonably strong performer, enjoys solid battery life, and offers a decently nice camera – and all for quite a bit less than your typical flagship. There's no one stand-out area where the Honor 9 shines, but it does enough right to be worth recommending.

The Honor 9 offers a lot of what the high-end flagship phones do right now, but for a much lower price. There’s no exciting, headline-grabbing feature here, but a great design, fantastic performance and lots of nice touches make this an all-round impressive and affordable phone.

Still, it’s tough to find better for less. Unless you’re prepared to make a significant investment in a 2017 flagship, this is as much phone as you’ll get for your £400 right now.

While the Honor 9 could be dismissed as simply a lesser-specced Huawei P10, in reality, having used both handsets as daily drivers, the Honor 9 simply has more heart, which is an admittedly weird thing to say about an inanimate object. The Honor 9 delivers in just about every area you would want, and despite the camera’s less-than-perfect performance in low-light conditions, the Honor 9 is another winner for the budget brand.

The Honor 9 is an undeniably impressive phone for an unmatched price right now. In performance terms, it's nipping at the heels of the year's top flagships, and only lacking flashy features like waterproofing or a bezel-less screen. It looks great, it runs fast, and it costs less than £400. We're sold.

The Honor 9 officially starts at €449 in Europe, but there are lots of offers out there and for £379 or €429 where you can get the 64 GB Honor 9 and a Honor Band 3 fitness tracker together. However, no matter what you pay you will be getting a phone packing pretty high-end specs – essentially the same as those found in Huawei’s other 2017 flagship devices but for a lot less money!

The Honor 9 is a siren in the mid-range phone market. Its eye-catching design is paired with highly capable performance for a price point that, in the context of 2017, undercuts the OnePlus 5 by a sizeable enough margin to leave the Honor in a field of its own.

The Honor 9 is a well-executed project, which in spite of the lack of a massive PR campaign, has everything needed to succeed and prevail on the market. We can't really figure out Huawei's strategy for the Honor brand yet again, but we don't mind having such a thoughtful allrounder once in a while.

The Honor 9 is a phone with some serious high-end chops that sells for a mid-range price. It costs the same amount as a Samsung Galaxy A5 but has a much more powerful processor, a slightly more versatile camera, more storage and a more eye-catching design. It’s a step up, basically.

The honor 9 is really a refinement of its predecessor’s winning qualities. It’s an eye-catching phone, it’s well-equipped, and most importantly, it offers plenty value for money. For context, the honor 9 retails from 2,299 yuan in China – that comes up to only RM1,450.

The Honor 9 is a great-value handset that offers a similar flagship experience to most other premium phones, yet with a greatly reduced asking price. Sure, you don’t get any jazzy HDR visuals or a ridiculously sharp Quad HD screen - and most users won’t even notice. They’ll be too content with the slick software, lovable design, smooth performance and dependable battery life.

As I mentioned at the outset, the Honor 9 is a no frills smartphone, delivering a solid baseline across the board at a price point that most can manage. It doesn’t add anything brand new to the mix, just improves on a winning formula from years past, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Wrapping things up, the Honor 9N offers a glass design, dual cameras, a notched display, a great selfie camera, and a featured EMUI 8.0 software. For the price of Rs 11,999, the Honor 9N has all that it got for a phone to offer.

Honor 9N is a good smartphone and most people who are planning to buy one will not regret their decision. As a reviewer, I observed that Honor has cut the corners to make the Honor 9N beat the competition. Honor 9N will go on sale for the first time in India for a starting price of Rs 11,999 for the base version (3GB RAM + 32GB) and it goes up to Rs 17,999 for the model with 4GB RAM and 128GB model. A model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage will also be available in the market. That model is priced at Rs 13,999. Honor 9N is exclusive to Flipkart.

With price starting at Rs 11,999, Honor 9N competes with Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. The phone doesn’t really outclass Redmi Note 5 in terms of overall performance and battery backup, but does have its own USPs – camera and premium design. If you’re looking for a phone that’s better looking, Honor 9N is worth considering. But performance and battery life are something you cannot compromise on, Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro continues to be our top recommendation.

The Honor 9N, in case you haven't noticed, is a prettier Honor 9 Lite. It has the same core hardware, the same screen (albeit with a 19:9 aspect ratio), the same dual rear cameras and the same battery. The changes that it brings in have mostly to do with the all-round look and feel, as well as the selfie camera. Of course, there are now more configurations available for buying, but the thing about a phone like the Honor 9 Lite was that it was so very affordable. It still is. The Honor 9N, although it looks more premium and also it has a better equipped front camera, is also a bit more expensive.

The Honor 9N is a really good smartphone. We tested the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant which is priced at Rs 13,999. At this price point the Honor 9N is not a bad phone at all. It offers an excellent design, a powerful processor and a satisfactory camera experience. On the other hand, its rival Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro also offers somewhat same processing power but at a higher price tag of Rs 14,999. Moreover, the Honor 9N also comes in other variants starting at Rs 11,999 which definitely makes it worth the money. So, if you want to upgrade to a budget smartphone then you can definitely consider going for the Honor 9N.

All in all, Honor 9N is a great package deal. It is a great performer that can handle your day to day routine normally while also being able to look good while doing all this. The Notch FullView display looks great and the design of the phone itself is also pretty great.

The Honor 9N is a compact smartphone that sports a vibrant display, a fresh and modern design, and Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The colour options are also quite funky, especially Robin Egg Blue, which is set to go on sale soon. That said, battery life is mediocre, performance is below average, EMUI seems cluttered, and the cameras falter in low light.

The Honor 9N ships in Lavender Purple, Robin Egg Blue, Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black colors, is priced at Rs. 11,999 for the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage version, Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB RAM with 64GB version and the 128GB version of it costs Rs. 17,999. The Honor 9N is a well-built device for its price range and offers good colour options in the sub-15K price bracket. However, it uses a dated Kirin 659 chipset and does not offer fast charging. The camera can deliver nice photos in good lighting conditons, but falters badly in low light. Overall, the Honor 9N fails to stand out from the competition when it comes to overall performance. If good overall performance is what you are looking for, then you can't go wrong with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in this price segment.

Huawei has pried the phone right. At 17,999 INR, there is a lot we can appreciate about the Honor 9i including its design, display, and overall performance. Inculcating the current trend gives it enough arsenal to compete with the fresh set of selfie phones like Vivo V7, Oppo F5 and Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro. If you are looking for an 18:9 display phone or a good selfie phone, Honor 9i is a good option for under 18K.

The Honor 9i has the blend of a great display, snappy processor, solid build quality and dual camera setup on both front and back that takes some good shots. In terms of specs, there's little that competes with the Honor 9 Lite at this price. It’s impressive 18:9 display turns out to the crispier with the full HD+ resolution. It’s slim, lightweight, and the glass at the back feels rich. The battery lasts longer than you think. Honor 9 Lite has all that it got, there isn’t any better consideration when it comes to overall value, it satisfies the needs within the price bracket. The Honor 9 Lite is advised if you are looking for more features in affordable segment.

Priced at Rs 10,999 for the base variant, Honor 9 Lite offers terrific value for money with excellent design and build, Oreo out of the box, good performance and good cameras. The only area where it shorts fall is the gaming experience. If you are looking for a good all-round budget offering, the Honor 9 Lite makes perfect sense. It is available exclusively on Flipkart.

As pointed above, Honor 9 Lite does come with drawbacks at major areas. Apart from a good design, Honor 9 Lite doesn’t deliver a comprehensive experience. At this price point, you may consider phones such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Mi A1 and Lenovo K8 Note which are better performers and are available in same price range.

Overall, the Honor 9 Lite is one of the best phones under Rs. 11,000 currently in the market. It has all the features one would expect in a mid-range smartphone and it works well too. At a starting price of Rs. 10,999, the Honor 9 Lite has a gorgeous design, Quad-camera setup, and a good performance, which makes it a compelling device at this price range. Wish it had fast charging and dedicated SIM slots as well.

It has the looks and the innards. And at Rs 10,999 for the 3 GB/ 32 GB edition, a heck of a starting price, although the 4 GB/ 64 GB variant costs a stiffer Rs 14,999. So should you be going for the Honor 9 Lite? Well, if you want a decent performing smartphone that still turns heads on a relatively tight budget, the answer is yes. And it is yes again if you want a good cameraphone without spending too much – the Mi A1 costs Rs 2,000 more, remember. In fact, if you are looking for a phone that is in the Rs 11,000 vicinity, the 9 Lite will take some beating. Move to the higher price variant and things get interesting with the likes of the Moto G5s Plus, the Mi A1 and even the massive Mi Max 2 coming into the picture, not to mention Honor’s own 7X sibling. But the Honor 9 Lite does bring the cocktail of quad cameras, eye-catching design and an 18:9 ratio display at a surprisingly affordable price. Which is quite an achievement in the highly competitive Indian phone market.

Huawei certainly has a winner on its hands with the Honor 9 Lite. Yes, there are some shortcomings such as poor camera performance in low-lit conditions, app optimisations among others, but show me a phone that does not have any flaws. The starting price of Rs 10,999 (for the 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage) for a handset that looks this lovely is itself enough for a lot of consumers to pick up this phone. It will certainly give some tough competition to its own sibling, the Honor 7X.

The Honor 9 Lite is a impressive handset, not just the look but the price is just too good. Excellent handset in all departments, just that the battery performance is just about average, with about a day of battery life – depending on your usage.

Since the handset comes with 18:9 aspect screen it is packed into a smaller form factor – feels like using a 5 inch screen. There are dual microphones. 4G with VoLTE is supported, I did not find video calling icon in dialler.

Honor 9 Lite is a good buy if you want a stylish phone that offers a decent overall performance and a good camera. However, battery is a crucial factor for me when it comes to narrowing down on a phone. While Honor 9 Lite seems like a good deal at Rs 10,999, remember this price is for the 3GB RAM variant and you only get 32GB space, which is low when compared to devices in this price-bracket. You can also look at options like Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, M1 A1, or Moto G5s Plus.

The Honor 9 Lite is an affordable mid-range smartphone that covers all the bases – stunning design, latest Android, front and rear dual cameras, and an 18:9 display. That alone makes it a well-rounded package and the fact it fares well across the board only makes it a compelling 2018 smartphone. We’ll, of course, know more when we take it for a comprehensive spin for a detailed review.

The base variant of the Honor 9 Lite is one of the better options currently in the market, with a reasonable starting price of Rs. 11,000, and an 18:9 display. If you're interested, you should note that the 9 Lite overlaps with Honor’s existing offering, the 7X, which lacks the extra cameras but does have a metal body, a larger screen, and a slightly bigger battery.

As the year drew to a close, a British anthology series premiered another season of exploring and contemplating the many facets of technology and how they impact our lives. I was reeling off a binge-watch of the season when the Honor 9 Lite dropped (cautiously) in my hands. The name of the series, Black Mirror, essentially means, “the reflection of an unlit computer screen”, and when I noticed the all-glass design of the phone, the whole essence of the phrase became more apparent. Honor’s latest offering is all-glass-everywhere, perfected in a way that when the tall screen turned off, I was left rethinking my life as I saw myself.

To conclude, the Honor 9 Lite is high on style quotient and the glass body surely adds premium design to the device. The hardware specifications are similar to Honor 7X and Honor 9i and the four cameras surely looks promising.

The Honor 7X and the Honor 9i were good smartphones but both suffered a bit when it came to their cameras and battery performance. It will be interesting to see how the battery in the 9 Lite holds up considering it has a lower capacity than the other two. As for the cameras, having four sensors works as a great marketing point, but doesn’t necessarily mean better quality photos. Still, we’re hopeful that Honor has improved upon its past offerings, and perhaps, the overall experience will be better this time around. Stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for our full review of the Honor 9 Lite, coming up soon.

As a subsidiary of the Huawei corporation, Honor must also limit itself to an operating system without Google Services. While this initially works well with EMUI 9.1.1 based on Android 9, some limitations will show up in the details. Our review shows what you can expect.

The lack of Google services is a fatal flaw from which the Honor 9X Pro can’t recover. Even if there were no decent alternatives available, the Honor 9X Pro still wouldn’t get a pass; the fact that there are plenty just compounds the issue. So far the Honor 9X Pro has launched in the UK, some of Western Europe, and several MEA countries. In most of those regions you can get the Realme X2 with 30W fast charging, an impressive quad camera, and an AMOLED display for around £50 extra. The equally impressive Realme 6 Pro is also available for the same £249 asking price. Other contenders include the Samsung Galaxy A51, which can be found for under £299 on sale. Motorola’s lower-end phones, such as the Moto G8 Plus and Motorola One Vision, are also worth a look if you value clean software at the cost of processing power. Check out our best phones under £300 list for more options, or our best phones under £500 guide if you’re tempted to spend a little more. The Honor 9X Pro is compelling as far as hardware is concerned.

It's surprisingly difficult to put a verdict on this phone. Truth be told, the HONOR 9X Pro could be this reviewer's personal choice if the Huawei AppGallery offered more high-quality games in its repertoire. However, since Huawei AppGallery is still relatively new, we are optimistic that more developers will make their games available on the platform soon.

It's a bit difficult to come up with an overall conclusion on this device. To be honest, the HONOR 9X Pro might be our choice if the Huawei AppGallery had a better list of games or apps. Nonetheless we believe that the Huawei AppGallery will get more great game developers soon and when it does it will really shine as a midrange gaming smartphone.

HONOR 9X Pro Review: A much-improved device with HMS 21At the price of RM999, the HONOR 9X Pro is a good option for those who want a midrange phone that can handle games well and last long. Although there’s no doubt that the HONOR 9X Pro wins over the 9X, it does have one downside that cannot be overlooked – it no longer uses Google Mobile Services. That being said, HUAWEI is expanding its AppGallery and there are many apps that can be sideloaded so it all boils down to how important and dependent you are on Google apps like Gmail, Google Drive and Google Maps.

The all-new HONOR 9X Pro. We did have a hands-on with the device not long ago, and it’s the first HONOR available in Malaysia to be using the Huawei Mobile Services, or HMS for short. This means there are no Google apps pre-installed, which severely affects the user experience.

The Honor 9X Pro is an impressively affordable smartphone aimed at those looking for great hardware without the typically high price tag. Looking at the spec sheet, it almost seems too good to be true: you get a good-looking screen, plenty of storage, a 48MP camera, a big battery, and a reasonably fast processor for just €249.

We did like the Honor 9X Pro a lot once we removed ourselves from the "It's a Google's world" mindset. There is life after Google even if Huawei is yet to really prove that. Unfortunately, the Honor 9X Pro otherwise grand entry into the market is marred by forces beyond it. It is, fairly or unfairly, tied to the fate of its parent company and the ever-changing whims of politics and trades. If Huawei and Honor ever overcome this challenge, then the Honor 9X Pro could very well rise to the top. But, by then, it might already be time for an Honor 10X Pro.

As a high-end model, the Honor 9X Pro also has a built-in 4000mAh battery while ensuring the thickness and feel of the body. This is also the fundamental guarantee for the outstanding performance of the Honor 9X PRO in terms of battery life. In addition, the 7nm process of the Kirin 810 processor uses a 2+6 size core configuration to flexibly allocate CPU resources according to different application requirements, and finally achieve the powerful endurance performance of the Honor 9X PRO. For mobile game enthusiasts, if you want a “game” phone with both performance and endurance, then the Honor 9X PRO will be a good choice.

The Honor 9X is a fine phone for its price range, and while it won't blow you away with its performance, cameras or display, it still works perfectly well as your day-to-day smartphone.

The HONOR 9X Pro was exactly what I hoped the HONOR 9X was: a good mid-range flagship with good performance across the board and a nice camera. HONOR definitely delivered on that, although I do wish that they released the Magic UI 3.0 update for it before it was launched.

The Honor 9X is certainly among the good-looking devices launched recently. It also offers a pleasant viewing experience and to offers reasonable performance in day-to-day use. The handset comes at an MRP of Rs 15,999, however, you may find it cheaper online.

So, the most important question, is should you buy the Honor 9X? The simple answer is that if you are not a heavy gamer and consume a lot of content in the form of YouTube videos, streaming TV shows, movies and want a good viewing experience, the Honor 9X will suffice for your needs. Not to forget, the rear camera performs well, and the battery gets you through a full day. However, if performance is highest on your priority list and you play a lot of games, the Honor 9X isn’t the best option for you. For Rs. 13,999, you are getting the flaunt factor of the all-screen front and the pop-up camera, and if that interests you, the Honor 9X is a good buy.

The Honor 9x is an above average phone with an excellent design, decent display and a lasting battery, especially for the price. But fast charging is a miss and the Android 10 experience out of the box could have been a more quantifiable edge over its competitors. All in all, the Honor 9X for Rs 16,999 (6GB RAM) is a good buy if you are wowed by its full-screen display and characteristic design. Not so much if performance and user experience are your top priorities. Samsung has better screens in the price range and Xiaomi has better performing phones. The Honor 9X remains a mixed bag of hits and misses till the user interface gets an update.

The Honor 9X's notchless full-HD display is a welcome feature at its asking price, and the phone's design also stands out. However, it is a bit on the larger side which could make handling a little awkward for some people. The performance of the Honor 9X is good for day-to-day tasks, but a better processor with more graphics prowess would have improved the gaming experience.

Starting at 13,999 for the 4GB RAM variant -- and going up to 16,999 for the 6GB RAM one -- the Honor 9X is a competitively priced device. At the price, the Honor 9X brings a decent mix of cameras, design and performance to the table to woo buyers in the segment.

Overall, Honor 9X does look like a decent smartphone in the price range, but it is difficult to recommend, especially given the older processor, lack of fast charging, and a design that didn’t quite stand out for me. The 6GB RAM is quite expensive at Rs 17,000, which if users are willing to pay should look at options like Redmi Note 8 Pro that offers 64MP quad-cameras, bigger battery and fast charging or Samsung Galaxy M30s. But do keep in mind that there’s the 4GB RAM variant of Honor 9X as well that can be bought for a slightly cheaper Rs 13,999. There’s also the issue of updates, though the company has said it will be upgraded to Android 10.

The phone is built around the Kirin 710F SoC with up to 6GB of RAM, and was snappy in our brief hands-on time, loading and switching between apps quickly. EMUI 9.1, based on Android Pie, handles things on the software side. It has a tonne of pre-installed apps and rather garish aesthetics, but some useful features. There is a 4,000mAh battery, and this phone supports 10W charging. The Honor 9X seems to be a compelling package at an asking price of Rs. 13,999, but we'll reserve our verdict till we conduct an in-depth review, in which we will assess aspects such as raw performance, battery life, and camera quality. Stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for the full review of Honor 9X, coming up soon.

Recommending the Honor 9X ultimately hinges on its price point. For now, we know the phone costs the equivalent of around $300 in Russia, so it’s likely we’ll see it go for around €300 in other European markets. The excellent Xiaomi Mi 9T (€300) offers superior performance, while the Moto G7 Power (€210) is a great go-to for the budget-conscious. The Honor 9X’s price tag should probably slot somewhere in between.

Overall, the helpful photography features and presence of Google services make this phone a worthy purchase if you are looking for a straightforward device that can get you through your day. The better cameras would make it better for the budding photographer while the large full view display is also great for movie streamers as well.

However, the elephant in the room is the lingering uncertainty over the relationship between parent company Huawei, and Google, which provides the Android software. In light of these ongoing issues, we cannot recommend Honor phones.

All in all, the Honor 9X is a decent smartphone. It has a solid build and a classic look to it, an immersive notch-less display, a modest battery life, and a good enough performance. There may be some issues with the images produced by the cameras, and hardcore gamers may also find that gaming on this device isn’t up to par. If you’re someone who’s not really into smartphone photography, or you’re the casual and once-in-a-while gamer who needs a reasonably decent smartphone to get by, you might want to include the Honor 9X in your choices.

I think overall, as a smartphone, the HONOR 9X is quite okay. When compared with other smartphones, the HONOR 9X doesn’t really have a strong unique aspect to differentiate itself from any other mid-range smartphones – even from the company’s own catalog. There are numerous smartphones with Kirin 710 chipset in the market right now, too.

The HONOR 9X is just a little short of being an amazing mid-range device. The chipset is relatively outdated at this point, the camera setup is far from the best, and the lack of features like fast charging, AC WiFi as well as the antiquated EMUI 9.1 skin just piles on the hurt, holding the HONOR 9X back from being the bang-for-buck mid-ranger the HONOR 8X was in its time.

Do you like to stand out from the crowd every time you pull your phone out of a pocket? The 9X is an inexpensive oddball that does a great impression of a pricier phone. It doesn't have the same performance as close rivals like the Motorola Moto G8 Plus, and while its triple camera is flexible, there's no escaping its sensors were picked to stick to a budget. But that's the price of admission for a phone with a pop-up selfie camera. More well-rounded alternatives won't get you noticed as much, but for everyday use, they'll probably be the better buy.

The absence of a notch on that large screen, the eye-catching Dynamic X design and the great battery life all make for a solid affordable handset. However, the processor isn't a bump over last year's and the cameras aren't all that. Nonetheless, it's a solid affordable handset and comes with full Google services too.

If you can stretch to a Pixel 3a or Pixel 3a XL, you’re probably better off doing so. Aside from offering better cameras than the Honor 9X, these can use Android 10, are available in the US and aren’t at risk from suddenly losing out on Google’s support due to international politics. But if you want a larger display for less money, the Honor 9X is worth a look.

Honor has a record of producing phones that look like flagships, but are actually less than half the price, and the 9X is no exception. With no notch or bezels it delivers a massive full-screen experience, while the back of the phone is equally striking. The triple lens camera promises a lot on paper, but not everything is a winner - the night mode in particular is not very impressive. However, the price still makes this phone a contender.

The Honor 9X is a phone I wanted to love because I've always had a fondness for good, affordable phones. They're what much of the mass market will be considering when buying a new device, and for the most part, the Honor 9X is going to be a good choice. But it cannot be excused for launching in Europe without support for Google Pay. It just can't.

The Honor 9X does offer enough upgrades over the 8X, which makes it a good sequel. But the fishy tactics that brought it on the market aren't something anybody should be taking lightly. So, the 9X is a decent smartphone but not the best you can buy for its asking price. And unless it's discounted, we won't recommend it over the phones we mentioned above. But even then - until it gets an all-clear from Google in some way - we'd still have our doubts about its future.

The Honor 9A wants to convince above all by its large battery. With the achievement however the manufacturer saved and users must adjust themselves also to get along without Google services. Is it enough nevertheless for a tidy a riser Smartphone

The purchase decision of Honor 9A is certainly dependent on your usage and budget. For those who are looking for a new mid-range phone at an affordable price tag, decent cameras, and long-lasting battery the Honor 9A could become your next companion. However, you will have to compromise on the Google Mobile Services support.

After I was initially scared of using it, the Honor 9A did an amazing job of turning its own story around. Almost everything about this phone is better than I would have expected at this price. The cameras are decent, the performance is solid, the battery life is incredible, and it's just an overall good experience. If it weren't for the fact that many apps I use require Google services, I wouldn't lose sleep if I was forced to use the Honor 9A permanently.

If you’re just looking at the Honor 9A from a hardware perspective, it offers phenomenal value. For £160 you get a multi-lens camera, fingerprint scanner, and long-lasting battery. But without Google Services, it’s a tough sell.

The best thing about the Honor 9A is undoubtedly the battery life - getting a 5000mAh battery for such a low price is a real plus. The striking exterior design is also rather aesthetically pleasing. Nonetheless, the budget price means that the camera is hit and miss, and the lack of Google really makes the OS harder to use if you’re integrated within this system heavily. Huawei’s own app store is still relatively new and has a long way to go before it can catch up with its western rivals. If you’re looking for a basic phone for your day-to-day tasks and aren’t too bothered by no Google integration, then it’s still worth considering the Honor 9A.

The lower end of the market is where profits are eroded and every penny is counted (and counts). Honor is taking a very risky bet with the 9A, one where it expects customers to embrace HMS without flinching, magically eschewing their decade-long dependence on Google Web Services. That remains the biggest existential threat to Huawei and to Honor, alongside the ban on the use of arm-based processors.

We go hands-on with Honor's latest low-end smartphone, the Hpnor 9A. It's poerred by a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset, and it has a 3GB of RAM and 64GB pf storage. It doesn't have Google services, though, so you'll have to rely on the Huawei AppGallery and other Huawei services.

HONOR 9A Review: A subpar device with a huge battery 30At the price of RM549, the HONOR 9A is not the best choice out there for those looking for a daily driver. It will, however, suit those who don’t need a high-end phone and prioritises battery life — perhaps the elderly who just need a phone to connect with their family.

The phones are great, but the apps just aren’t there. Some aren’t even listed, and I’ve not even touched on the more specialist-but-popular apps that you might expect, such as your supermarket shopping app, your network account app, your VPN app, the app that talks to your CCTV, your credit card app or whatever.

For the price of RM549, the HONOR 9A is good enough for those who just want a simple smartphone for texting and some social media. Or maybe even for us who want a secondary phone to use as a dedicated WiFi hotspot device while traveling (when the quarantine is over, of course).

For its price tag of RM549, the HONOR 9A doesn’t really stand out. A basic chipset, camera and HD display places it solidly in the entry-level segment. It does have long battery life in its favor and it is also a pretty inexpensive entry point into the HMS ecosystem. If that’s what you are looking for, the HONOR 9A fits the bill just fine.

With older Android 9, but at least with Google Services, the Honor 9X Lite comes to your home. The high-resolution main camera and features like NFC make the smartphone worth a look.

This is the latest value offering from Honor, unlike recent offerings from their parent company Honor still seem to have access to Google and therefore no different to other manufacturers and for you the user all the Apps you use are still available from the Google Play Store.

We are very well aware that our readers like having a budget-friendly smartphone but asking it to perform like a high-end device at the same time isn't practical. It's very rare to have the best of both worlds and you get what you pay, so if you're just looking for a smartphone that works for normal daily social usage, light gaming, passable camera performance, the HONOR 9X Lite fits the bill nicely.

Actually, yes. The HONOR 9X Lite should be treated as an entry-level smartphone, and that’s not a problem. It’s a good entry-level smartphone – especially that full HD, 1080p screen. Yet it’s a beautiful phone, too.

Sure the HONOR 9X Lite does have its flaws but considering of its price of RM699, it’s a pretty acceptable offering. For its simple design, big storage, and ‘okay’ camera performance for its price, I give the HONOR 9X Lite our Bronze Pokdeaward.
