Reviews for the Honor Magicbook 14
We really liked the Huawei MateBook D 14 with an AMD processor in our review, and Honor now offers the same device as MagicBook 14 for 50-100 Euros (~$54-$108) less. Is there a catch, or is the MagicBook 14 a recommendation?

The Honor Magicbook 14 comes with an impressive sleek design, a large screen with slim bezels as well as robust performance - it’s hard to believe that this laptop is under £600.

We go hands-on with the new Honor MagicBook 14, a laptop with a Ryzen 5 4500U, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It will be available on September 21.

HONOR improved the aesthetics, but halved the storage and number of speakers when moving from the HONOR MagicBook to the HONOR MagicBook 14. The screen is dimmer and the battery is smaller here than it was on the HONOR MagicBook too. They also increased the price by a rather significant RM200 to RM2499, which makes it much less than the original HONOR MagicBook. I do find it an absolutely unnecessary refresh especially as they kept the same chipset from the HONOR MagicBook, when the AMD Ryzen 4000 series processors are already widely available.

At the official retail price of RM2,499, the HONOR MagicBook 14 is still a surprisingly good deal. It’s not as good of a deal as the original HONOR MagicBook, but still a very good deal nonetheless.

As a result, I think the MagicBook is a really solid choice for someone looking to get their first laptop or a laptop for office/college work. If you’re a creator on-the-go, I’d say up your budget and get something closer to the MateBook 13 which I’ve been using as a daily driver that has a better balance between performance and portability. Plus, the MateBook 13 has a much nicer 2K panel.

This is a small and light 14inch screen notebook with an AMD processor from Honor. It is a fast product, so what if anything is there that could be improved, first it is not that cheap but then all the components are high end, second there is only a single SSD drive of 256GB divided into ‘C’ and ‘D’ and on an office desk you could be short of connections.

Honor may be best known for its attractive-yet-affordable Android phones, but one of the brand's latest products is actually a laptop. The Honor MagicBook 14 is a lightweight Windows 10 PC that offers good performance at an affordable price. While the Honor MagicBook 14 is not available in the US, it is currently on sale in parts of Europe for about 600 euro (the equivalent of 650$ with tax). In exchange you get a no-nonsense Windows 10 laptop with no major drawbacks besides the silly webcam stuck in the keyboard. It is well suited for students, office workers, or anyone in need of a laptop for productivity and entertainment that is easy to carry around and doesn’t break the bank.

I look forward to seeing the quality and capabilities of what Honor can do in the future. If they can match or better this style, with the latest hardware under the hood for performance and battery life, then it will amplify the already impressive user experience I have had. Along with using the device, I also wrote this review on the Honor Magicbook 14. It did not miss a beat.

Honor MagicBook 14 is a fantastic choice for your everyday related tasks. Without skimping out on any major fronts, the MagicBook 14 gives you a very well balanced performance along with a very elegant looking design. The quad-core processor comes out to be a pick that is going to be perfect for just about everyone out there.

The Honor MagicBook 14 costs a lot less than most similarly equipped Windows and macOS rivals, making it an absolute steal. It’s slim, light, handsome and very pleasant to use. It also offers plenty of power. Honor hasn’t cut any significant corners to reach its attractive price, making this an extremely tempting proposition for anyone who’s looking for a well-built Windows laptop on a tight budget.

For a measly £458, though, it’s easy to forgive a questionable webcam position - and, for that matter, some imperfections with the display quality and battery life. Or, to be more specific, it’s easy to overlook these faults when you can enjoy such a high standard of performance, build quality, styling and connectivity. The ThinkBook 13s has more of an enterprise focus with its TPM processor and Windows 10 Pro OS, as well as a better screen, but in almost every other way the MagicBook 14 is the superior laptop. It’s an absolute bargain and, geopolitics allowing, it will be exciting to see how Honor builds on this success with future devices.

The HONOR MagicBook does have its set of differences compared to the Huawei MateBook D 15 (review). The MagicBook has a better screen hinge, larger battery, faster and larger SSD – but has a slightly smaller screen and does not have a 2.5-inch HDD drive. In most cases, I’ll recommend the MagicBook. If you need a terabyte of storage, then get the Huawei MateBook D 15 instead.

When it comes to value for money, you can’t beat the Honor MagicBook 14. You’re getting a high-end looking laptop with great storage options without having to pay a premium price. The display is great for watching videos on, the processor can run some powerful programmes and games, and the lightweight size means it’s perfect for porting around wherever you need. All in all, if you’re looking for a versatile laptop for work or study, then this is a great option.

Overall, though, this is a lovely little laptop, particularly for basic business tasks, or as a university workhorse. And at £549, I'd be hard pressed to find anything real to grumble about. If you're tempted, you can grab it at Amazon and Argos.

As far as I am aware, the HONOR MagicBook is probably one of the most affordable laptops offering the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U APU along with 8GB RAM and 512GB of storage, with a price tag of just RM2299. Even when looking beyond the hardware specifications, there is quite a lot to love from this diminutive 1.45 kg laptop. The speakers are great and the battery life is amazing, and then there’s HONOR Magic-Link which is an awesome feature to have on if you own a HUAWEI or HONOR smartphone. If you are looking for an affordable laptop that’s portable and yet pack enough performance for your daily computing and sufficient battery life to last you the day, the HONOR MagicBook is the one to get.

There are a few things I like about the MagicBook 14. I absolutely love the trackpad here, it's a perfect combination of size and Precision drivers that makes it a joy to use. The display looks pretty great and sharp at this size and resolution, and I have no major complaints about the colors. Sound from the speakers is also better than I would have thought, it makes for a pretty good music listening experience. I also appreciate niceties like the fingerprint sensor that reads my fingerprint as soon as I press the power button, unlike recent offerings from Dell.

The HONOR MagicBook is an impressive device that gets all the basics right – it’s built sturdily, has great performance, remains cool and quiet, and has long-lasting battery life. The impressive display and audio quality make media consumption comfortable too.

We go hands-on with Honor's latest laptop, the MagicBook 14, with a Ryzen 5 3500U processor, Radeon Vega 8 graphics, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage. It will be available on April 7 in the UK for £549, and it will cost €599 in the rest of Europe. It also has a fingerprint sensor built into the power button, a large trackpad with Precision drivers, and a nice design with blue chamfered edges on the lid.

The Honor MagicBook 2020 is tapping into a largely neglected market by undercutting the cost of most ultrabook rivals but, importantly, offering more power and freedom than a Chromebook. Such an affordable laptop seems ideal for students, especially with the slick design that imitates Apple’s MacBook.
