We really liked the Huawei MateBook D 14 with an AMD processor in our review, and Honor now offers the same device as MagicBook 14 for 50-100 Euros (~$54-$108) less. Is there a catch, or is the MagicBook 14 a recommendation?

The Honor Magicbook 14 comes with an impressive sleek design, a large screen with slim bezels as well as robust performance - it’s hard to believe that this laptop is under £600.

Before you buy any laptop, it's a good idea to know what you need and check out reviews. You could even check out our write up on the 4 key tech specs you should consider before buying a laptop. Anyway, when it comes to Honor we mostly know it for its smartphones. But we have not gotten a chance to review an Honor laptop yet, so will this one manage to impress us? Read on for our review of the Honor MagicBook 14 to find out.

We go hands-on with the new Honor MagicBook 14, a laptop with a Ryzen 5 4500U, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It will be available on September 21.

HONOR improved the aesthetics, but halved the storage and number of speakers when moving from the HONOR MagicBook to the HONOR MagicBook 14. The screen is dimmer and the battery is smaller here than it was on the HONOR MagicBook too. They also increased the price by a rather significant RM200 to RM2499, which makes it much less than the original HONOR MagicBook. I do find it an absolutely unnecessary refresh especially as they kept the same chipset from the HONOR MagicBook, when the AMD Ryzen 4000 series processors are already widely available.

At the official retail price of RM2,499, the HONOR MagicBook 14 is still a surprisingly good deal. It’s not as good of a deal as the original HONOR MagicBook, but still a very good deal nonetheless.

As a result, I think the MagicBook is a really solid choice for someone looking to get their first laptop or a laptop for office/college work. If you’re a creator on-the-go, I’d say up your budget and get something closer to the MateBook 13 which I’ve been using as a daily driver that has a better balance between performance and portability. Plus, the MateBook 13 has a much nicer 2K panel.

This is a small and light 14inch screen notebook with an AMD processor from Honor. It is a fast product, so what if anything is there that could be improved, first it is not that cheap but then all the components are high end, second there is only a single SSD drive of 256GB divided into ‘C’ and ‘D’ and on an office desk you could be short of connections.

Honor may be best known for its attractive-yet-affordable Android phones, but one of the brand's latest products is actually a laptop. The Honor MagicBook 14 is a lightweight Windows 10 PC that offers good performance at an affordable price. While the Honor MagicBook 14 is not available in the US, it is currently on sale in parts of Europe for about 600 euro (the equivalent of 650$ with tax). In exchange you get a no-nonsense Windows 10 laptop with no major drawbacks besides the silly webcam stuck in the keyboard. It is well suited for students, office workers, or anyone in need of a laptop for productivity and entertainment that is easy to carry around and doesn’t break the bank.

I look forward to seeing the quality and capabilities of what Honor can do in the future. If they can match or better this style, with the latest hardware under the hood for performance and battery life, then it will amplify the already impressive user experience I have had. Along with using the device, I also wrote this review on the Honor Magicbook 14. It did not miss a beat.

Honor MagicBook 14 is a fantastic choice for your everyday related tasks. Without skimping out on any major fronts, the MagicBook 14 gives you a very well balanced performance along with a very elegant looking design. The quad-core processor comes out to be a pick that is going to be perfect for just about everyone out there.

The Honor MagicBook 14 costs a lot less than most similarly equipped Windows and macOS rivals, making it an absolute steal. It’s slim, light, handsome and very pleasant to use. It also offers plenty of power. Honor hasn’t cut any significant corners to reach its attractive price, making this an extremely tempting proposition for anyone who’s looking for a well-built Windows laptop on a tight budget.

For a measly £458, though, it’s easy to forgive a questionable webcam position - and, for that matter, some imperfections with the display quality and battery life. Or, to be more specific, it’s easy to overlook these faults when you can enjoy such a high standard of performance, build quality, styling and connectivity. The ThinkBook 13s has more of an enterprise focus with its TPM processor and Windows 10 Pro OS, as well as a better screen, but in almost every other way the MagicBook 14 is the superior laptop. It’s an absolute bargain and, geopolitics allowing, it will be exciting to see how Honor builds on this success with future devices.

The HONOR MagicBook does have its set of differences compared to the Huawei MateBook D 15 (review). The MagicBook has a better screen hinge, larger battery, faster and larger SSD – but has a slightly smaller screen and does not have a 2.5-inch HDD drive. In most cases, I’ll recommend the MagicBook. If you need a terabyte of storage, then get the Huawei MateBook D 15 instead.

When it comes to value for money, you can’t beat the Honor MagicBook 14. You’re getting a high-end looking laptop with great storage options without having to pay a premium price. The display is great for watching videos on, the processor can run some powerful programmes and games, and the lightweight size means it’s perfect for porting around wherever you need. All in all, if you’re looking for a versatile laptop for work or study, then this is a great option.

As far as I am aware, the HONOR MagicBook is probably one of the most affordable laptops offering the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U APU along with 8GB RAM and 512GB of storage, with a price tag of just RM2299. Even when looking beyond the hardware specifications, there is quite a lot to love from this diminutive 1.45 kg laptop. The speakers are great and the battery life is amazing, and then there’s HONOR Magic-Link which is an awesome feature to have on if you own a HUAWEI or HONOR smartphone. If you are looking for an affordable laptop that’s portable and yet pack enough performance for your daily computing and sufficient battery life to last you the day, the HONOR MagicBook is the one to get.

There are a few things I like about the MagicBook 14. I absolutely love the trackpad here, it's a perfect combination of size and Precision drivers that makes it a joy to use. The display looks pretty great and sharp at this size and resolution, and I have no major complaints about the colors. Sound from the speakers is also better than I would have thought, it makes for a pretty good music listening experience. I also appreciate niceties like the fingerprint sensor that reads my fingerprint as soon as I press the power button, unlike recent offerings from Dell.

The Honor MagicBook 2020 is tapping into a largely neglected market by undercutting the cost of most ultrabook rivals but, importantly, offering more power and freedom than a Chromebook. Such an affordable laptop seems ideal for students, especially with the slick design that imitates Apple’s MacBook.

Honor MagicBook 15 is priced at Rs 42,990 which is a good price considering all the features offered by the laptop. It offers a minimalist design, fingerprint button chipped on the power button and a pop-up web camera. The laptop offers quick charging too. A lack of Intel processor and the limited battery life might dissuade a few buyers but overall Magicbook 15 is a capable laptop for day-to-day use.

The Honor MagicBook 15 covers the fundamentals right. It is not a feature-rich option in its segment, but it makes a good notebook for everyday use. It could have been better if it had a proportionate build with an even weight distribution, a strong display hinge, Thunderbolt or similar I/O ports for enhanced data transfer rate, big on-board storage and an optimised battery solution for good standby time. The MagicBook 15 is hard to recommend. At this price, there are several worthier notebooks from Asus, Xiaomi and Acer offering better utility and performance.

Just from looking at it, the new MagicBook 14 doesn't feel all that new compared to the previous iteration, The design is exactly the same as before, and that has benefits and disadvantages. It feels sturdy and premium, just as it did before, and the design feels classic, yet it has a bit of flair thanks to the blue chamfered edges, which give it a but more personality. On the other hand, keeping the webcam under the keyboard is a terrible decision, and it's just not a good way to use a camera. You're very limited in how you can position yourself in the frame, and it's especially problematic when so many people are working from home.

Earlier this year, I reviewed the Honor MagicBook 14, with a Ryzen 5 3500U processor. The laptop had its advantages, but considering Ryzen 4000 had already been announced at that point, I couldn't help but wish the MagicBook 14 had newer internals. This week, Honor did just that, and announced a refresh of the MagicBook 14 and 15, in addition to the new MagicBook Pro.

This year's update of the Honor MagicBook 14 brings Intel's Tiger Lake processors to the compact notebook. In our test configuration, we therefore compare Intel's Core i7-1165G7 with the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U that Honor used in last year's model.

A decent if unambitious update, the introduction of a Core i7 processor and integrated graphics could be seen as a bit of a step sideways from the Ryzen 5 system it replaces, especially as the price has increased at the same time. So while the new MagicBook is a powerful, stylish and well-made laptop with improved battery life, the high price, Type-A 2.0 port, half-baked Type-C connector and daft webcam positioning all count against it, preventing a full recommendation.

The Honor Book 14 (2021) is a well-balanced laptop for those who want a device to get work done, surf the web and play the occasional game. It would have been nice is Honor has updated the design a bit to make it distinguishable from its predecessor (or even Apple’s products), but there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with how the laptop is built. For its 1,000€ price tag, the specs you get are very compelling. You’ll just have a hard time getting your hands on one as the laptop isn’t available in the US and Honor seems to have limited distribution across Europe as well.

The MagicBook 14 2021 (Intel Edition) is a minor upgrade. Honor missed an opportunity to make a lasting impression by doing something different. Expect some significant price cuts over the next few months in an attempt to make it far more competitive.

As you'd expect, performance on Honor's MagicBooks has gotten better with every generation, and with this particular update, it got the biggest boost yet thanks to the switch from mid-range processors to a high-end one. Because of that and everything else being almost exactly the same, this is naturally my favorite MagicBook yet.

While the upgrades are welcome, it might not have been the best decision for Honor to move into the premium end of the laptop market. The MagicBook 14 was one of the best – if not the best - value-for-money laptops you could buy, but now it competes with flagship models from the top names. Don’t get me wrong, performance of the top-of-the-range model I tested is excellent and the display is a big improvement on the previous generation. And it still comes in a stylish and well-made chassis. But you'd expect these things given the corresponding increase in price.

Honor MagicBook是去年最好的多媒体笔记本之一,当它涉及到性价比时。现在有了目前的Tiger Lake 处理器而不是AMD芯片,但这也使价格增加了约300欧元(约356美元)。这是否合理?

The Honor MagicBook 15 is a very good budget large-screen Windows laptop. It looks great, handles basic PC tasks with aplomb and is superior to the very similar-looking Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020). The Huawei offers faster disk speeds and a marginally better graphical performance but the Honor’s display boasts better colour space coverage and greater colour accuracy, meaning it’s better suited for creative work. Battery life and CPU performance are slightly higher on the Honor as well. The Honor MagicBook 15 is edged out slightly by the Acer Swift 3 in terms of overall performance and portability, but if you value screen acreage over speed then the Honor MagicBook 15 is a very good-value option. If you’re looking for a large-screened 15in laptop for not very much money, they don’t get much better than this.

Overall, the Honor MagicBook 14 2021 AMD model doesn't change much. However, it inherits features from its predecessors, such as the 100% sRGB colour gamut, narrow bezels, and ultracompact all-metal body. It also comes with a highly efficient AMD Ryzen 5000 series processor and strong battery life but it should mainly be used for office work and light photo or video editing but it could also be used for movie watching as well. The Honor MagicBook 14 2021 AMD model is quite competitive, even among other laptops at the same price. At less than RM3000, it's an affordable choice for students and office workers in their first job. The Honor MagicBook 14 2021 AMD model is available in Malaysia for RM2699 if you get the base model (8GB RAM+256GB SSD). You could also get one with more storage (8GB RAM+512GB) for RM2999. So, is the HONOR MagicBook View 14 worth it? Well, if you’re looking for a laptop of this caliber, then yes, very much so. HONOR really did an excellent job with the design here, while the display is good enough. It is also touch-sensitive, not to mention that it supports a 90Hz refresh rate. The camera has been much-improved, and it’s great for meetings, while the fingerprint scanner works great. The sound is good enough, while this is a powerful laptop, with powerful internals. On top of everything, even the keyboard is quite good, and so on. The HONOR MagicBook View 14 is an excellent Windows 11 laptop, which steers clear of major flaws. HONOR basically fixed all of the complaints I had for the MagicBook 14. I highly recommend it.

We like the Honor MagicBook View 14, a lot. However, while we can gloss over most of the issues on our list, the one that won’t get solved imminently is global availability and localization of the device for the rest of the world. That’s a real shame. Honor’s latest flagship laptop will be well received by professional users looking for something different with some compelling features for a business use case. However we do not understand why Honor only rolled it out to three territories (Russia, France and Belarus) outside of China when it could easily have done so. That aside, the laptop is a very well executed product and one that - if it ticks the right boxes for you - should be on your list of best business laptops. The screen is a pleasure to work with, it is fast enough for most tasks, even graphics intensive one, the touchpad is huge, the webcam is one of the best around and so is the audio subsystem. Only the slightly disappointing battery life and the placement of the Thunderbolt 4 ports are worth mentioning in the “to be improved” section.

It's hard to sing the praises of a device - whether that's a phone, a laptop or a tablet - with poor battery life. And there is a lot of good work on the MagicBook 16 that's undone by its limited power source. But then again, you do get more than you should for the price, including a six-core AMD processor, a stunning display, a (mostly) solid body and an attractive design. Most laptop manufacturers would charge you a lot more than £800 for such things, so take it for what it is. It's the technological equivalent of Cinderella's pumpkin carriage: it doesn't last long, but it's absolutely magical while it does.

The Honor MagicBook 16 is a great value performance laptop that combines a bunch of admirable characteristics. It has a nice all-metal shell. Its screen is large but the laptop itself isn’t so big and heavy you’ll avoid carrying it around. The display delivers good colour and powerful maximum brightness. Like several Honor laptops, the MagicBook 16 is a top deal. Just don’t come expecting an actual miracle. The touchpad is plastic, and its tacky surface pulls off a much less persuasive impersonation of glass than some. Those spotlight-stealing speakers? Nah, they’re no good. And while the Ryzen 5 5600H packs a punch, its performance in the games we tried is a little worse than what you’d get from a low voltage Intel CPU laptop, which looks much less powerful on paper.

You can use the Honor MagicBook 16 (2022) for just about any task from office work to light PC gaming. It has a big screen, decent performance and it looks great too, with a sleek modern design and slim bezels around the FHD screen. The battery life isn’t amazing so this might not be a great choice if you plan to use it out and about, but it barely takes any time at all to charge so it’ll be fine for taking between rooms in your house or office. If you need a well-rounded 16-inch laptop that won't cost you the earth, and you don’t mind the average battery life or the sheer size of it, the Honor MagicBook 16 (2022) is worth adding to your shortlist.

Much like its Honor and Huawei forebears, the MagicBook 16 is a solid and competent laptop that does little wrong. It has power enough to quickly chew through the majority of everyday computing tasks and, although the integrated GPU is rather feeble, it isn’t notably worse at gaming than any other laptop running Intel’s Iris Xe integrated graphics. In the end, the only reason the MagicBook 16 doesn’t get five stars is that the battery life is mediocre. If, however, you’re purchasing a laptop for mainly home use that won’t see much in the way of use on the road, then this is a very good option.
