The Honor View 20 isn’t perfect, no smartphone is. The EMUI Magic OS interface is still not quite all that it should be and I miss the Always On Display and Dark Mode that I’ve become used to using on phones with OLED panels. As good as the 48MP rear camera is, you may find yourself missing the customary zoom and wide-angle capabilities found on other handsets. As for an IP rating, well, the View 20 doesn’t have an official certification so don’t go washing it under the taps. But, as we’ve seen with some recent premium priced flagships, it’s all too easy to get blinded by gimmicks and features that you’ll use once and then totally forget about (reverse wireless charging, anyone?).

The Honor View 20 is a beautiful phone that could have been even more beautiful had the aluminum chassis been polished. That doesn’t make it unappealing, it’s just a design cue I think should have been addressed. The back of the phone is stunning with its V pattern in the glass.

Just last week, Huawei unveiled its new P30 series. While it shares many traits in common with the Samsung Galaxy S10, it quickly took the smartphone camera crown. So why review an Honor phone that launched months ago? For the simple reason that the Honor View 20 is a prime example of how you don’t have to break your bank just to get some of the best that the smartphone market has to offer. Provided, of course, you’re willing to accept some compromises here and there.

Are there places where the View 20 could have improved? Yeah, but not too many. Is the View 20 going to satisfy everyone? Perhaps not. Magic UI isn't everyone's favorite UI whether it's because of its appearance or more specific UI behaviors. But if you are coming from an iPhone, Magic UI/EMUI is a great Android skin to start with since it somewhat feels like iOS and yet, it is very much Android in most other aspects. The likeness to iOS is much less apparent now than in previous versions of EMUI.

The HONOR View20 is clearly a phone with many firsts; it’s the first phone to launch with a punch hole display, beating both Huawei and Samsung – if you’ll pardon the pun – the punch last year. More importantly, it’s also the first smartphone to launch with the 48MP Sony IMX586 camera sensor.

The Honor phone has more image-filtering than Pixel 3, and at night, it makes everything very bright, with white balance steering towards white. On the contrary, Pixel 3 will often exaggerate colors and contrasts, which is a style that has proven to be popular. You decide which you prefer.

The Honor View 20 gets a very high score from us, and for good reason. This device turned out to be a pleasure to use. It captured a surprising amount of detail. Furthermore, you can expect super sharp images, well-tuned colors, amazing low-light capabilities, natural bokeh in portrait mode, and a clean app.

And the Honor View 20 is no different. It has a 48-megapixel camera, so you can get lots of lossless zoom. I do think that it would work better with a secondary zoom lens, but for the price, it's pretty amazing. The hole-punch display is nice too, given that there's no obtrusive notch.

For now, at least, continued tension between Huawei and the US government means the odds of being able to buy one of these in a big-box store grow slimmer by the day. While those of us in North America probably won't experience what the View 20 brings to the table anytime soon, we'll still probably benefit from the phone's release elsewhere — in some ways, Huawei raised the bar for what to expect from a high-end, low-cost smartphone, and we're sure to see other companies follow suit this year.

There is no denying that the Honor View20 is a solid device for its features offered at a fair price. Honor View20 has a lot more to offer than a large screen-to-body ratio. Aside from its pin-hole camera design, you have a unique looking back, the flexible dual cameras, and top-notch performance that competes with high-end phones.

When it comes to the overall user experience, the OnePlus does better from a software standpoint and offers a more consistent shooting experience, making it a better package. I would recommend the Honor View 20 if you are fed up of the display notch and if you want to be the first to jump on to the hole-punch display trend, which is bound to catch up this year, among the premium flagship smartphones.

I’ll be honest. I wasn’t really impressed with the Honor View 20 when it was unveiled. It seemed like another me too product form Huawei’s sub-brand simply trying to gain attention as being one of the first devices with a hole-punch display, but this phone is definitely a lot more than that. It delivers impeccable performance, outstanding battery life and a well-rounded camera experience all neatly wrapped up in a glitzy body. The best compliment that I can offer is that the Honor View 20 is the first smartphone to truly challenge OnePlus and its flagship devices.

The choice between the 6T and View 20 ultimately comes down to how tolerant you will be of the Magic UI tweaks versus the nearly stock Oxygen OS from OnePlus (and perhaps where you live, as the Honor isn’t yet available in North America). After getting over the initial setup pains, I find myself at ease with Magic UI, and I’d personally favor the View 20 for its greater camera capabilities, prettier design, and subtly more agile responsiveness. And hey, a hole punch is better than a notch any day of the week.

The Honor View 20 offers fantastic value with flagship-level benchmark and camera performance and very respectable battery life too. It does have a few compromises though. While the display resolution is fine, the View 20's LCD panel pales in comparison to the OLED displays you can find on other phones around the same price range, like the OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. It also lacks wireless charging, stereo speakers, and expandable storage.

At times what happens with certain sub-brands is that they always remain under the shadow of the mothership. In Honor’s case that has been true to a certain extent when it comes to slightly premium devices of Huawei. But the Honor View 20 shatters that myth in style. With the Honor View 20 you actually get a better phone than the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. While it’s true that there are more ‘flashier’ features – OLED display, reverse wireless charging, wide-angle camera – in the Mate 20 Pro but for the common user those aren’t really useful features.

The View 10 had gone toe to toe with the OnePlus 5T last year and this year it is the turn of its successor to do the same with the OnePlus 6T. Priced at Rs 37,999, the Honor View 20 is in the affordable flagship zone and while it does face challenges from the likes of the Asus Zenfone 5Z (which just got an Android Pie update) and the Poco F1, both of which sport flagship level processors, there is no mistaking that its real target is the OnePlus 6T. We will be doing a detailed comparison of the two devices in the coming days, but as of now, we can say that it definitely does enough to unsettle the Never Settler in terms of design, photography and battery life. If you are looking for an Android flagship without damaging your bank account too much, the View 20 definitely is an option – it scores heavily on design, packs in excellent performance has very good cameras (even though we expected more) and has a battery that goes on and on. We quite enjoyed the View. Pun intended.

The Honor View 20 is a phone with very little faults, and it is also a flagship that doesn't compromise on a lot of things, offering a 3.5mm headphone jack and a physical fingerprint sensor as these features near extinction. The 8GB RAM variant may not have a lot of takers, which is fine because the 6GB model is more than enough. If you're in the market looking for a phone under Rs 40,000, you of course have the OnePlus 6T as an option, but the View 20 is probably the one to go for right now.

At Rs. 37,999 for the 6GB+128GB variant, the View20 is conveniently placed to be the best value for money “high-end” device. It’s the trendiest because it leads the pack in almost all the smartphone trends of 2019. Punch hole “All-View” display? Check. Super high res 48 MP camera? Check. Advanced 3D depth sensing? Check. And then we have the usual expectations from a flagship quality device. Stunning design. Super fast charging. Flagship SoC. All this at an affordable price. This is why it’s going to be super hard to compete with the HONOR View20. If you’re looking for a flagship quality device with the additional bragging rights of stunning design and earlybird 2019 trends, this is the device to get. Again, all this with a relatively affordable price tag, the HONOR View20 is the trendiest value flagship.

Overall, the View20 is an odd device in terms of its target market. Honor’s marketing materials position the device against the highest flagships, such as the iPhone XS, Galaxy Note9, or OnePlus 6T. The one weak point where the View20 can’t compete with these devices is in screen quality. Even the OnePlus 6T which comes at a similar price range as the 569€ base price of the View20 outdoes it in the screen department, and here I don’t see the hole-in-display camera as some sort of competitive advantage that would give the phone any kind of higher worth price wise.

The View 20 doesn't get everything right – there's no wireless charging or water resistance, and the absence of an OLED panel might annoy some mobile purists – but for £500, it's something of a marvel. The hole-punch screen design might seem like a gimmick but once we grew accustomed to it, we had trouble going back to a device with a notch or pronounced bezels. The screen is something of a show-stopper then, but the camera setup is almost as impressive, and if Honor can do some meaningful stuff with that 3D ToF camera, then this could shape up to be pretty special as far as image capture is concerned. Add in a powerful chipset and likeable software, and you've got an early contender for 2019's best mid-price handset. We're sure that the View 20 will have plenty of competition over the next 12 months, but for now, this is arguably the best way to spend £500 in the Android sector – yes, even better than the OnePlus 6T.

Honor equals a budget phone, right? Well, wrong. The lines between Huawei and Honor are really blurring here. This is a powerhouse of a phone for a properly reasonable price. The graphic performance with that Mali-G76 GPU is stellar, the 4,000 mAh quick-charge battery just goes on and on and that Kirin 980 chipset flies. It’s 75% faster on a single core performance basis compared to the previous generation but it uses 58% less power. Shocking. Let’s not forget, this is a CPU from Huawei. It’s their own kit. Even when I was playing graphic-intensive games it felt like the phone wasn’t breaking a sweat. Honor engineers have developed a trick bit of liquid cooling technology which dissipates heat incredibly well.

The camera packs a lot of potential for sharp, well-created images, but 48MP is a lot of pixels to allow for well-made low-light snaps. However, for a powerful phone with alternative technology, the Honor View 20 has a lot to offer.

只有较少的手机有很大的屏幕。
大尺寸可以让屏幕有更高的分辨率。因而例如字体等的细节将会更丰富。不过另一方面,小屏幕的功耗会较低,而设备也会更轻盈小巧,售价更低。
