Lenovo bills the LOQ 15IAX9I as a gaming laptop, but that stretches the definition. More accurately, it's a budget laptop that can handle a bit of casual gaming. Priced at just $550, however, engaging in even some light gaming is still a notable accomplishment. The LOQ 15IAX9I has many of the trappings of a budget laptop, from its all-plastic design and outdated 15.6-inch, 16:9 display to the two-generations-old Intel Core i5-12450HX CPU and fuzzy 720p webcam. What lends it a modicum of gaming prowess is its Intel Arc A530M GPU. Not to be confused with Intel's integrated Arc graphics chip, the Arc A530M is a member of Intel's lineup of discrete GPUs and it supplies 4GB of dedicated video RAM.

Given its asking price, there’s much to like about the Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9I. The keyboard is excellent, the display and sound system better than most gaming laptops costing less than £1,000, and there’s space for a second SSD, which is becoming a rare feature at this price point. In the negative column, the battery life is poor, and gaming performance is lacklustre compared to the Medion Erazer Crawler E40. However, I should clarify that at the time of writing, that costs almost £140 more. For the money, the Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9I is a great all-around performer with some gaming capability rather than a thoroughbred gamer. If you’re after that, it will do very nicely and represents excellent value.

For shoppers who simply can’t spend any more than this on a laptop, you do have an option, but it’s not near the best value just because it’s the least expensive. For a couple hundred dollars more, the Nitro V 15 is a much better deal, relative to its build and performance. The other LOQ configurations are more worth your consideration, too. But, since we didn't test those, we suggest hitting up the Acer Nitro V 15 next in your search for an affordable gaming laptop.

The dedicated GPU and powerful CPU will let you run less demanding games a lot more smoothly than other budget laptops. The full-sized chiclet keyboard is comfortable to type on, the rear-facing ports will keep your workspace uncluttered, and the webcam features a convenient physical off-switch. Lenovo’s AI-powered resource management can either squeeze maximum performance out of the hardware or help you significantly extend the LOQ’s battery life. However, LOQ is an entry-level gaming laptop that won’t give you the performance you need to succeed in competitive gaming. If GPU performance is your top priority, consider the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 (2023).
