Under Lenovo, Motorola is sticking to its formula of offering an essentially stock Android experience. The Moto G4 and G4 Plus both come with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow pre-installed with a very thin layer on top to add some features.

The sweet spot here seems to be for the base Moto G4 Plus, as it comes with that slightly better camera, fingerprint scanner, and quick charging capability. At $249, it’s only a little more expensive than a OnePlus X and has some better features, and it’s cheaper than the Moto X. Definitely a solid buy for someone trying to dodge the hefty price tag of the latest Samsung or Apple flagship phones while still getting something that looks good and performs admirably.

As an all-round package, it’s hard to find fault with the Motorola Moto G4. It may be a touch more expensive than last year’s Moto G, but since it’s better in most ways – with superior battery life, a better camera, a brighter, bigger screen and a sleeker, more grown-up design – you won’t find me complaining. There may be some who complain that the Moto G is now too big, and yes, for those with smaller hands and pockets it may be a stretch too far. But let’s not get too hung up about what the Moto G4 isn’t and celebrate what it is: it’s one hell of a smartphone, and delivers more bang per buck than any smartphone to date. If you’re looking to spend less than £200 on your next handset, there’s simply no better choice than the Motorola Moto G4.

The Moto G4 Play brings to the table all of the specs and features you would expect out of the normal Moto G. In fact, its specs are basically the same as last year’s Moto G (third generation), but with a slightly larger battery (2800mAh in the Moto G4 Play vs 2470mAh in last year’s Moto G). All in all, it’s not a bad phone whatsoever. It’s a pretty good workhorse that will more than last you an entire day. In fact, you could probably get through two days or even more out of the Moto G4 Play. That’s something we can’t say about many other smartphones available today.

Because the Moto Z and Moto Z Force are Verizon exclusives for the foreseeable future, the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are better recommendations if you’re wanting to buy from Lenovo’s Moto brand. These phones carry low price tags and ship with clean software, and you can take them to just about any carrier for seamless use. But the price is truly good for the Moto G4 alone.

These are great little phones. In 2016 Moto doesn’t deliver quite the impact they once did when they were one of the only manufacturers offering a high quality experience at such a low price, but we’re happy to see how competitive this generation has become by offering a spectrum of devices. Instead of just two options divided by storage, consumers have a number of options to select depending on their individual needs. Even at $200 though, you’ll end up with a phone which would have shamed a Galaxy S4, LG Optimus G Pro, or HTC One M7 when those phones were new.

If you want to spend no more than $200 (plus whatever tax is in order) on a smartphone, Moto G4 is still the best smartphone on the market. Motorola's industrial design may have become a bit more bland this time around, but the device is right on the money for cash value. If you need a fingerprint scanner and you want to start getting into better camera features, skip over the Moto G4 Plus and head straight for Moto X.

With their comfortable feel, excellent displays, good cameras and day-long battery life, the Moto G phones are fine choices if you want to spend less for your next Android smartphone. Considering its better camera and fingerprint sensor, I'd strongly consider spending the extra $50 for the Moto G Plus, although that does push it from "cheap" to "reasonably priced."

The G4 Plus is a different story. I’ve requested another review unit in an attempt to get down to the bottom of whether the interface glitching and unresponsiveness spans across all models. But until then, I’d warn that you’re gambling if you’re considering bringing home this $250 device—which shoots up to $300+ if you get it with 4GB of RAM.

Both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are some well-done mid-rangers, marrying performance that should be adequate for casual users with some very attractive pricing. But a lot of companies give us well-executed phones; are the new Moto G4s anything special? Well, that's sadly to say a bit of a “no.” The Moto Gs in general have been experiencing a sort of drift over the years, and while they're still a cheap alternative to Motorola's flagships, they no longer feel like they're doing much that's unique to stand out in the mid-ranger space.

The $230 Moto G4 is a relatively affordable midrange phone with a crisp 1080p and solid battery life, but it's key selling point is its broad carrier compatibility. You're unlikely to find any other affordable unlocked phones that support bands for all four major US carriers. However, if you're not interested in switching carriers the $150 Blu Life One X will give you very similar performance for $80 less.

As far as performance is concerned, we are more than happy because of the available Snapdragon 617 which is noticeably more powerful than Snapdragon 410 (present in Moto G3 and many other mid-rangers). The camera is 13MP again, and albeit it does not offer a lot of software features, the decent image quality it provides is enough. As for the battery improvements, they are not great. Yes, it is now bigger but has to support more demanding hardware. We appreciate the available stock Android which contributes to the fast operation of Moto G4. In a nutshell, the new Moto G has what it takes to be a leader of the mid-range.

Motorola's big problem with these new phones is that the last Moto G was simply too good. In pushing for larger screens and other upgrades, it also introduced some compromises. Ultimately though, the good outweighs the bad. The Moto G4 and G4 Plus offer plenty of power and versatility without breaking the bank.

If we're going to keep playing the for just this much more you can get ... game, then you should also know that you can get a phone that not just feels high-end, but is high-end, for only $399 in the OnePlus 3. It too runs a mostly stock version of Android (though its update schedule isn't likely to be as good as Motorola's), while adding a cutting-edge processor, 6 GB of RAM, nearly as good battery life and (mostly) high-end specs everywhere else. If you're already considering the 64 GB version of the Moto G4 Plus, then the OnePlus is going to be tempting for just an extra Benjamin.

Back in 2013, the Moto G was a game-changer. As phones were getting bigger and more expensive, the Moto G offered an uncompromising experience at an impulse buy price. And even though it didn’t come equipped with the latest specs, it quickly went on to become Motorola’s most successful phone ever—even surpassing the hallowed Razr, which basically defined the flip phone era.

That a £169 smartphone can achieve so much for so little is absolutely astounding, and it firmly throws down the gauntlet to all other budget smartphone manufacturers. The Vodafone Smart Ultra 7 does, admittedly, come very close, but while it can match the Moto G4 on speed, it simply can't compare when it comes to the quality of the display, camera, or battery life. The Smart Ultra 7 might be a fraction cheaper on prepay, but when the Moto G4 only costs another £35 (which then gives you the freedom to pick your own contract or SIM-only deal rather than being tied in to Vodafone's rates), there's simply no competition. It's a Best Buy.

The Moto G4 is a decent smartphone, offering one of the best smartphone photography in the budget segment, along with good battery life. Unfortunately, it does not offer the all-round performance balance that the likes of LeEco Le 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Lenovo ZUK Z1 do. It is a good smartphone, only not the best.

The Moto G4 is a decent phone in all ways. It's well built, looks decent, and comes with excellent, up-to-date software. Lenovo’s first stab at a Moto G device could very well be the best yet. But, by being a much larger device, I fear it could alienate a number of potential customers. Still, if the size isn’t an issue then it’s a fast phone with what appears to be a strong camera and plenty of power. It comfortably outshines its modest £169 price once again.

We didn’t have all that much time with the G4 before it was swept out of our hands, but on first impressions it looks like a very tempting handset. Especially if you’re not all that tempted by the flagship offerings from Samsung and LG. Lay down your cash for the Moto G4 and you’ll bag yourself a thoroughly capable phone with a tremendous, distinct design for the price. Despite its myriad rivals, Moto still knows how to deliver an affordable phone with knockout panache.

Although the new Moto G4 is more expensive than the third-generation, Motorola is offering a Full HD screen, better processor, more storage and memory. Not everyone will enjoy the jump to 5.5in or the lack of full waterproofing but this is still a decent phone for under £200. Most will benefit from fingerprint scanner and better camera of the Moto G4 Plus for just £30 which also comes with the Turbo Charger in the box. Stay tuned for full reviews soon.

It’s slightly unusual for a ‘plus’ model of a phone not to have a larger screen, and with the Moto G4 having largely the same specs as the G4 Plus, but an extra £30 for a fingerprint scanner and a better camera doesn't seem bad at all. The new Moto G and Moto G Plus hangs on to many of the characteristics of the previous Moto G phones, importantly it's still good value for money. However, there's a general creep in price and size that some might not like: this could be a 5-inch device that's cheaper than the £169 starting price offered here.

With a Nexus line that only offers one or two new phones a year, we need more handsets running pure Android. And the Moto phones - the affordable Es, the well-rounded Gs and flagship Xs - were some of the best such phones. Of course, they were made by Google-owned Motorola! There were some doubts about the future of the company and its fate after the sale to Lenovo, but so far the Chinese tech giant has proven to be a great shepherd of the beloved Moto brand. Its wide distribution network is actually helping Moto phones reach more markets than before.

Staggering battery life, a great screen as well smooth responsiveness and slick performance make for a great smartphone – pricier phones have been sold on less. If you want an excellent quality camera as well as a fingerprint reader and the fastest possible performance, then you’ll still need to look elsewhere.

We’re even in two minds about whether you really need to upgrade to the Plus. The upgrade is definitely a bargain, but if you’re not bothered about a finger scanner, the camera is already good enough to serve up top-quality snaps. Either way, the Moto G4 is a phenomenally good phone that's going for a steal.

Sure, not everything about the G4 Play is great. The uninspired plastic design goes in stark contrast to some of the attractive metal bodies I’ve seen in entry-level devices from Chinese OEMs. The handset still lacks 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi, which is a disappointment, and Motorola’s camera app is simply horrible. Also, don’t count on fast security updates for this device, although Motorola has promised an update to Android 7.0 in the near future.

The Moto G4 Play impresses me almost as much as when the original Moto G came out years ago. For $150, you can grab a customizable phone directly from Motorola’s website that offers a crisp 5 inch 720p screen, a front facing speaker that gets fairly loud, speedy performance that almost matches flagship devices, incredible day-and-a-half to two-day battery life, and a solid build.

If you are looking for a smartphone at a low cost, then the Moto G4 Play pros outweigh the cons. With a starting price of $99.99 unlocked and support for all four major U.S. carriers, it seems tough for other manufacturers to beat the Moto G4.

Its benchmark scores aren't very strong, but to be fair, we weren’t expecting chart-topping performance from such an affordable, unlocked smartphone. The Moto G4 Play simply isn’t trying to be the best of the best. Instead, it’s meant to offer good real-world performance for a very budget-friendly price and it accomplishes that goal well. The fact that the phone offers decent battery life, good cameras, and is clean and free of unnecessary apps and bloatware are additional perks, particularly for someone who just wants a basic, no-frills smartphone that won't break the bank.

The Moto G4 Play is a simple budget smartphone that offers clean Android interface, reasonably fluent everyday performance, and a reliable battery. It is certainly not the most exciting smartphone around, and at this price, the Lenovo Vibe K5 and Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime are better performers. They also deliver better value for your money, along with more features.

Motorola has budget phones down to a near-science, so we had no doubt that the Moto G4 Play would deliver as a reliable, great bang-for-your-buck device. The Moto G4 Play’s shortcomings are nothing more than what comes with the territory of affordable phones, for the most part: an exceptionally plain design, a middling camera, and decent but not terribly fast performance.

The ancient Greeks advised us, “know thyself,” and that's an important aphorism to keep in mind when considering the Moto G4 Play. Yeah, the processor is all kinds of old, the camera is serviceable, at best, and we find neither tons of storage, nor the sort of Moto Maker customizations available for higher-end Motos. But you've got to remember: this is the bottom-rung Moto phone in many markets (those without the E3 Power, at least), and when we're only paying $150 for a handset, we're not expecting a ton in the first place.

Perhaps a better way to explain the Moto G4 Play is to call it an overachieving mediocre phone. I know, it makes no sense, but when you look at its benchmarks, the scores are really low. Yet, daily use doesn’t suffer in the same manner the HTC Desire 530 did, which scored just below the G4 Play.

Moto G4 Play is a decent budget smartphone that will please most buyers. If fingerprint scanner is not your priority in a smartphone, then go for the G4 Play. Remember, the device does lag in terms of performance, especially during gaming. Competitions to consider in the segment include – Xiaomi 3s Prime, slightly higher Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 1s, and Lenovo K5 Note.

The G4 is a very well-rounded smartphone. Sensible pricing, pure android, good cameras and no-nonsense build quality coupled with the infinite customisation options make it an almost irresistible budget option, but I would have preferred for it to be slightly smaller, waterproof and with a non-plastic body. But it is great as it is.

While the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus feel lost in the world, the Moto G4 Play is right on target. Its average specifications match the price tag, so you’re getting exactly what you pay and it’s cheaper than last year’s model as well. See, Lenovo is being straightforward with the Moto G4 Play. There isn’t any ambiguity surrounding what the phone is capable of. At $149, the Moto G4 Play is everything the Moto G (2016) could have been. This is it. We didn’t need the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. The best budget device on the market today is Lenovo’s Moto G4 Play.

Then there's the 8-megapixel rear facing camera. Honestly, I was surprised by its better-than-average performance. Is it the best phone camera out there? No way. But in good light, it takes good photos. In mixed light, it takes OK photos. And in low light, it struggles and images tend to have some noise. Skin tones looked fairly natural in selfies, and for those who like such things, there is an optional beauty mode. The Moto G4 Play shot serviceable 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution video at 30 frames per second (fps). Take a look at some of the snaps I took with the Moto G4 Play in the gallery below.

Users looking for an decent device that’s solid, runs well, and has a battery that’ll last all day, this is it. Have a peek at our previous Moto G reviews and consider whether or not it’s worth buying a new Moto G4 Play for $149.99 USD, or if any of the models from years past will do the trick for a bit cheaper. Either way the Moto G collection of smartphones remains one of our go-to top-picks for budget-friendly high-quality smartphones without a doubt. This device will be available on September 15th at Amazon, Best Buy, B&H and Motorola online, and there’ll be a prepaid version coming from Verizon “in the coming weeks.” There’ll also be a Moto G4 Play Prime Edition with all sorts of Amazon ads and software in it that’ll cost $100 USD. That’ll be available starting September 15th, 2016.

If you find the Moto G4 at the same price as the Moto G5 or cheaper, there’s a very good argument for buying the older model unless you prefer the design of the new model. The screen’s bigger, the processor a little faster and the camera similar in terms of image quality.

There’s plenty of competition in Android’s budget market, but the Moto G5 is the best around right now. The build quality alone feels like it belongs on a much more expensive phone, while the fingerprint gesture controls genuinely improve the Android experience.

The build quality alone feels like it belongs on a much more expensive phone, while the fingerprint gesture controls genuinely improve the Android experience. The benchmarks and battery hold it back, but they're not unreasonable given the price - and you won't find a much better looking phone at £169. All that said, it may be worth holding on until 25 July when Motorola may be announcing a premium version of the G5 and G5 Plus.

The upgrades might appeal to some, but the big price hike won't. The G5s is better built and battery capacity returns to what it was in the Moto G4, but the new unibody design means the battery is no longer removable. Processing power remains the same, so for many, the original G5 still represents the best value.

With other manufacturers pushing into pricier brackets, the Moto G5 sticks to its £169 guns and delivers a fairly knock-out performance for the price point. It's more sophisticated to look at than its G4 predecessor, will handle all manner of tasks easily, and has a nifty fingerprint scanner too.

At $299 this is the cheapest smartphone we’ve seen in a long while – even less than the $328 Oppo A57. Which would we rather have? Well, the Oppo has a better processor and 3GB of RAM. We’d also say that the cameras were slightly better too – especially the high-resolution selfie camera. It also comes with a free case.

Thumbs up to Motorola Australia for committing to quarterly security updates for the Moto G5 as well as a definite update to Android version O. During Ausdroid’s in person briefing with Motorola they also confirmed that they consider Android 7.1 to be a maintenance release, not a major OS update – so you won’t be getting that, but Android O is on the cards.

All said and done, the latest entry in the G-series is good but leaves a lot to be desired. This feels like a half-thought-out G5 Plus and, frankly, it’s a little confusing. On its own, the Moto G5 is an interesting proposal. It tries to be a lot for a lot less, something Moto G has stood for since forever but falls short on several counts. Lenovo cut too many corners to bring the cost down on the G5, and it shows. The way I see it, the company is giving consumers two choices. One, either go all the way and buy a G5 Plus which has everything this phone doesn’t including an all-metal unibody, more internal storage, a better camera and processor or, a buy a G5 which trades off all these features by having a removable battery, expandable storage, and a smaller price-tag. So, if you want Nougat on a budget and can temper your expectations, Moto G5 may just be a good fit.

Overall, I actually like the Moto G5. For its price of just AED 699, the G5 is quite an impressive phone. Sure it has a few flaws in terms of design and features, but it can be overlooked due to it being a budget phone. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a decent phone without having to shell out too much.

There aren’t many faults in the Moto G5; still it is hard recommending this phone. Instead Moto G5 Plus seems a more better proposition, even though it is more expensive. Essentially you’re paying for a better processor, more storage, a better camera, and a larger screen. The G5 Plus is clearly a better phone over the G5. If you’re not interested in either of the phones, the Redmi Note 4 might be the better option.

When the Moto G first came out, it was all about offering a great smartphone experience at a low price. Today, the price is still fairly low but the experience is no longer great, at least with this particular device. The Moto G5 feels like a compromise in a way the original never did. We haven't had chance to spend a lot of time with the more expensive G5 Plus but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that it is the premiere Moto G experience; the one we have been led to expect by now. Unfortunately, it is also much more expensive, which means we have gone from having a great experience at a low price to having to choose between the two.

In evaluating the Moto G5 we have to remember that it costs just £159. Given its affordability, a metal backplate, a good fingerprint sensor with additional controls on the sensor pad, a range of additional gesture controls, a separate second SIM slot and a decent 5-inch screen are all significant plus points. That said, it's not a big advance on last year's Moto G4, which has a larger 5.5-inch display. The 2016 model remains an attractive option, and could be real bargain if picked up second-hand.

Motorola's new Moto G5 is surely an upgrade to the Moto G4, in more than one ways. The phone has a new design language, removable battery, a decent camera, average SoC and display. Absolutely. But buy it for the Android Nougat experience. In my opinion the almost stock Android experience on the Moto G5 is worth its price. The Android Nougat keeps the phone simple, usable and functional. The fact that the Moto G5 has all the basic feature you need in the phone, along with a rather premium look and feel, also makes it a very likable phone.

At Rs. 11,999, the Moto G5's biggest attraction is its near-stock Android Nougat experience, and the Google Assistant feature which is hard to find on any other device in this price segment. Those looking for alternatives should consider the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime which packs a lot of the same hardware. The Panasonic Eluga Ray Max (First impressions), which was recently unveiled, could also be a decent option at this price point. Users looking for more power can choose between the Lenovo K6 Power (Review) or the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (Review).

With a shiny new metal body, a super-slick fingerprint sensor and decent specs, the Moto G5 offers real value for money. It’s another obvious choice for Android bargain hunters.

Overall, the Moto G5 is a good overall smartphone, and has something to offer for everyone. It isn’t the most well-built smartphone, but is definitely one of the most ergonomic. It doesn't have the most vibrant display to consume content, but isn't bad either. The display is visible in the sun, and everyday performance is acceptable. The buit-in speaker and limited 16GB storage are the only drawbacks. We do not recommend anyone to buy a phone with 16GB storage, unless all you need is calling, basic messaging apps and internet access.

Overall, the Motorola Moto G5 has its hits and misses. The smartphone carries a compact design, but it is a tad similar to its elder sibling. The device has a clean user interface with a host of interesting features, but still when compared to the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Honor 6X, which has a strong record in terms of performance and gives a premium look, the smartphone lags behind the competition, at least on papers.

The Moto G5 is not really an exceptional device for its price of Rs 11,999 and we did not find our jaws crawling on the ground while we reviewed it (something that happened when we were reviewing the Xiaomi Redmi 4A – the camera surprised us big time in particular) but considering the fact that it is a budget segment phone, the G5 has not done too poorly in any of the departments.

There’s fierce competition in Android’s mid-range market, but the Moto G5 is a strong contender. The build quality alone feels like it belongs on a much more expensive phone, while the fingerprint gesture controls genuinely improve the Android experience. The benchmarks and battery hold it back, but they're not unreasonable given the price - and you won't find a much better looking phone at £169. You might want to spend the extra to get the Moto G5 Plus with more storage, a better camera and more.

The new Moto G5 stays true to the G family formula, focussing on aspects like design, battery, camera and at £169, affordability. Certain elements, like storage, fall short of the mark, but for the most part, the Moto G5 packs in plenty of character, functionality and should appeal to social media butterflies, the budget conscious or just fans of the G series brand.

Motorola has consistently impressed with the Moto G range, offering great hardware at a very reasonable price. This year it looks to have done exactly that once again. The Snapdragon 430 is a bit of a letdown, and it remains to be seen how much performance will be impacted. For the most part, though, the Moto G5 keeps everything that made last year's model great, and brings a new design along with a load of new features that should be enough to keep the Moto G series at the top of the mid-range market.

Anyway, while other announcements garnered most of the hype, we have a feeling the Moto G5 and G5 Plus will prove to be some of the best phones to come out of this year's MWC.

Certain omissions and design decisions - particularly that micro-USB port and limited storage - do detract slightly from the otherwise solid mobile experience that the G5 offers, but it still remains a stellar all-rounder, at least on first hold.

As affordable phones go, none can better than Moto G5 from what we've seen of it. That it's an improved device compared to the earlier G4 - both in terms of spec and style - is quite an achievement given that the price point remains a very reasonable £169.

There’s no pretending these phones are anything even close to flagships in specs, but they certainly look the part. Samsung has successfully delivered its premium design to the Galaxy A series and the same approach will likely work wonders for Lenovo too. They deliver the same tried-and-true recipe the Moto G series has become famous for, but they do it in a style typically reserved for flagship phones. And that sounds like a recipe worth repeating.

The Moto G5 Plus is good value for money, but the camera disappoints and there’s no Android Pay in the US. The Moto range offers premium-smartphone looks and features at very low prices, and the Moto G5 Plus is no exception. This 2018 refresh of the G4 Plus has been improved inside and out, and it’s cheaper than the outgoing G4 Plus too. It’s just odd that US customers don’t get the same NFC features that everybody else in the world can get.

Moto G5 Plus lived up to our expectations for one of the best models in the middle range. It has nice appearance with metal construction and fingerprint sensor in the front part. The screen resolution is again Full HD but its diagonal is 5.2 inches, which suggests more comfortable operation with one hand, as well as better image detail. The battery has again a capacity of 3000mAh but improvement in the durability can be clearly seen.

The Moto G5 Plus is somewhere in-between. It’s not the best value you can get for a smartphone, and it’s not the most innovative smartphone out there, but it’s a decent balance of the two. If you’re looking for something better than a budget device, but can’t quite go to a $700 phone, it’s a good compromise.

For many people, it may come down to which carrier they prefer. And since the Blade V8 Pro and the Honor 6X won't work on Verizon or Sprint, that makes the G5 Plus an easy pick. But on top of that, if you are an Amazon Prime member, the G5 Plus' discounted price of $185 for the 2GB/32GB model or $240 for the 4GB/64GB version makes this phone a steal, especially the model with more RAM and extra storage (even with Amazon's special deals). Regardless of your carrier or your Amazon Prime status, though, the G5 Plus is definitely one of the best budget phones you can get right now.

By all means, the Moto G5 Plus is not a perfect mid-range phone. There's the weird panorama feature which I think would disappoint some phoneography enthusiasts, same goes to consumers who are into selfies since there's no beauty mode to be found. But other than that, there's nothing much to complain about the device. It has a nearly perfect camera, good battery life and charging, no heating issue after a few minutes of gaming, and convenient ways to open apps by using the shaking motion sensor. So looking from a camera-angle point of view, it is actually more value than the RM1299 price tag it is going for.

The Moto G5 Plus may not offer the best value for money, but the device as a whole is a very complete mid-range smartphone. Its software experience is polished and pleasant to use, it has great battery life, and its camera is actually pretty good – bar the low light performance.

If you can look past the not so attractive design of the Moto G5 Plus, the beauty lies in the user experience of the product itself, there has been no indication of how much Lenovo intends to sell the device in Malaysia, it is already on sale in India at the price of 14,999.00 Rupees, which translates to around MYR990. If the G5 Plus is priced below RM1,000, I’m sold. We’ll be back with the full review of the Moto G5 Plus once we get hold of a review unit.

As the phone that single-handedly created the quality budget smartphone category, we hold the Moto G in high regard and also have high expectations from very new device in the lineup. The Moto G5 we tested earlier didn't quite meet our expectations in that regard. However, the G5 Plus hits the mark and reminds us again why we love this series. It's far from perfect and there are areas where we would like to see it improve. We could use a bit more power under the hood. The design could bit a bit more compact and make better use of space. The design itself could also stand to improve aesthetically as recent models have taken to a more drab appearance. And how about a USB-C connector next time?

The Moto G5 Plus is available in two flavours, one with 3GB/16GB RAM for $399 and our review unit’s 4GB/32GB RAM for $449. It’s hard to see how the $50 premium would effect performance too much. Hardcore users who require the extra RAM for top-end applications will probably look at more powerful phones… or will they?

It perhaps can't be called truly budget any more, given the price is a long way off from the days of the first-gen device, but then you get a lot more for your money: metal build, some tempting specs and overall performance and software that delivers as much, if not more, than most will ever need.

The Moto G5 Plus looks way out of its class. Where else are you going to pay $229 for a phone that’s made of metal? Better yet, where else are you going to pay $229 for a phone that’s anywhere close to the Moto G5 Plus on paper? Lenovo’s latest mid-range offering is one of a kind. The design is remarkable considering the price, the performance is as smooth as a $400+ phone, and the battery life goes the distance. Not a single company or phone can compete.

The Moto G5 Plus is priced at $229 for the 32 GB storage and 2 GB of RAM of model, while the higher-end version with 64 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM will set you back $299. This is the same price tier as its predecessors, and it does feel like you get a little more each and every year despite the unchanging price point. Granted, this is in part due to technology continuing to get better and cheaper, but a lot also has to do with the ever increasing competition in this space.

The G5 Plus offers a good camera, clean software and a day-long battery all all for £249.99. The design isn’t quite to my taste and the display could be a bit more colourful, but really you’re not going to get better at this price. My only other suggestion would be the excellent Lenovo P2, but that's a very large phone.

The Moto G5 Plus is not without its flaws. It is clearly inferior to its competition in some aspects, with the dull display and design particularly being a disappointment. Despite its flaws though, it is an excellent mid-range handset. The excellent combination of hardware, software, and camera setup ensures that the G5 Plus will age well unlike many other devices out there. As for its camera performance, while it is impressive, there is still room for improvement here.

Another year, another pair of great affordable handsets from Motorola. The smaller, 5-inch Moto G5 offers reliable performance thanks to Android 7.0 Nougat, and a surprisingly good 13-megapixel camera. The design is a little uninspiring and the display is hard to read in direct sunlight, but this little smartphone does everything you need it to for a bargain price.

It's easy to pick up the very wrong impression that there's not much to look forward to in the mid-range smartphone space, like it's some dumping ground for leftover components, offers uninspired hardware design at best, and aims little higher than giving shoppers phone choices that are “good enough” without going much further.

This is not only the best Moto G, but also the most expensive one. The 3GB RAM variant with 16GB storage is priced at Rs 14,999 and the 4GB RAM version with 32GB storage at Rs 16,999. Comparing the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage is at Rs 12,999. Moto is not offering a 64GB variant. Of course Moto capitalises on the fact that it is offering the handset without any flash sales, whereas getting a Redmi Note 4 is a tough cookie.

Overall we're really impressed by the design of the Moto G5 Plus and the specs are good considering the price tag, but we'd still consider opting for the G5 instead. It's a whole £80 cheaper and we’re not sure the extra power and improved camera are worth that extra cash. The 0.2in difference in screen size is hardly noticeable, either. That's not to say this isn't a good mid-range phone, though. It can certainly compete with the Galaxy A3 and the Nokia 6, but so can the Moto G5 with that lower price. It's a tricky one to recommend when its smaller and cheaper sibling is so great!

If you're looking for a great phone that won't break the bank, the Motorola Moto G5 Plus checks all the boxes. It has a premium metal build, a sharp display, long battery life, a solid good camera, up-to-date software, and some pretty cool unique features. Whether you pay $185 for the Amazon Prime version, or $300 for the fully loaded model reviewed here, you get more bang for your buck than the $250 Honor 6X. Yes, the Axon 7 has a faster processor and a higher-resolution display, but it also costs more and you can't use it on Sprint or Verizon. So if you're shopping for a new phone and $300 (or even $200) is the top of your budget, you can't beat the Moto G5 Plus. That makes it an Editors' Choice.

OK, while none of these are a deal breaker for me, there are some things I find annoying. The G5 Plus has NFC and that means you can use Android Pay -- unless you live in the US. Why doesn't the US get NFC? I don't know. A spokesperson for Motorola said that "in the US, NFC capabilities are in less demand within the value tier." Still, it's a bit of a bummer.

The Moto G5 Plus is simply an outstanding phone for the money. It’s cheap, comes without monthly installments or commitments, and you can take it anywhere. Sure, spending $100 or $200 more will get you a better overall package in the OnePlus 3T, or the hard-to-believe battery longevity of the Moto Z Play. But not everyone can do that. And though the Moto G5 Plus is by no means the best smartphone available today, it’s hard to find a better one at this price — especially if you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber.

Motorola has a winner in the Moto G5 Plus. The phone isn't perfect, and yet it delivers a consistent and enjoyable experience no matter how you look at it. Motorola traded in the cheap, flashy plastics of older G series handsets for finer, more sedate metals in the G5 Plus. The result is a pleasing handset that looks and feels better than the price point. The phone has a great full HD screen, excellent build quality, and a nice size/weight. Everyone will be happy with the battery life and wireless performance, though call quality was a bit of a drag.

Absolutely. But buy it for the overall experience, and especially for that clean Android Nougat. Although the Moto G5 Plus performs well in all areas and has a nice enough design, its biggest strength remains its overall experience. Once again it is a Moto G, which is bigger than any one single part. Its camera is one of the best we have seen in this price bracket and its performance is fantastic, complete with the clean Android. Its design is attractive, although a curved glass on the screen, could have been the cherry on the cake.

Motorola continues to offer stock Android features even after Lenovo acquired it. It offers Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box while others are still playing around with the Marshmallow version of Android. On top of that, Motorola offers gesture-based controls like Chop Twice for Flashlight, Twist To Open Camera, Swipe to shrink screen and a few more. With Moto Display, you can see your notifications at a glance on the display without waking up the phone.

Priced at Rs 14,999/Rs 16,999, the Moto G5 Plus is a great device in the budget phone segment but faces a lot of competition from the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Honor 6X, and the Nubia N1, all priced considerably lower. Interestingly, each of those has an ace up its sleeves (the Note 4 and N1 have huge batteries, the 6X dual cameras and so on), and this is where the Moto G5 Plus lags – it does a lot of things very well but nothing really jumps out at you as being, well, specially special. The phone also faces stiff competition from the smartphone from its sister brand, the Lenovo Z2 Plus which comes with a hell of a spec sheet in the same price point. But then, just go back to what we said at the beginning:

Yes, we do think this is the best camera we have seen so far on any Moto G phone. And it is good enough to be one of the strong points of the phone, especially among those who do not like crowded interfaces and believe in hardcore point and shooting. That said, we think that those who were expecting picture quality that would be close to that of the Galaxy S7, the Pixel and OnePlus 3T, will be disappointed. The Moto G5 Plus is a steady, simple point and shooter, and takes its place alongside the likes of the dual camera Honor 6X in being the benchmark for photographic quality in the sub-Rs 20,000 (and in the case of its lower priced edition, sub-Rs.15,000) price range. If your needs are as simple as pointing, saying cheese and shooting, this is one of the better cameras at its price point!

Ditching the plastic body is a correct move by Motorola, it is high time budget devices got the premium quality appearance as midrange and flagship devices. Overall, the Moto G5 Plus gives a mix impressions. On one hand, it does gives a premium look, but on the other, the design looks a tad similar to Honor 5C. The device has a compact form factor, a clean user interface which is a welcome move, but still faces a stiff competition from the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Honor 6X that deliver good performance in almost all the departments and are priced less than G5 Plus.

At Rs 16,999, there’s little that the Moto G5 Plus gets wrong. It has a primary camera that impressed with every click. Gaming performance is surprisingly good and consistent. The battery comfortably lasts a day and coupled with Moto’s TurboPower charging, there’s going to be very few reasons to ever run out of juice. The Moto G5 Plus is more expensive this time, but it also has a vastly improved camera. It produces impressive contrast and dynamic range, taking photos that other phones in its category can't. The Moto G5 Plus is a really interesting prospect. When once the mid-range market was awash with so-so phones, this near-£250 device sets out a strong stall of specs and style, in a category where many of the previous front runners are now up and away at the £400 price point. It clears the decks somewhat, leaving Motorola to take advantage.

The Motorola G5S is a decent smartphone with a premium build and capable specs for its class. However, it’s lacking in multiple aspects and felt like Motorola just stripped down the G5S Plus so they can introduce something at a lower price point. It would have been a worthy offering if it launched in early 2017, but in today’s standards, it doesn’t have enough fire-power to take on the competition.

At an overall score of 69 points, the Motorola Moto G5S is battling for position in our ranking with other mid-range devices such as the Lava Z25 and the Meizu Pro 7 Plus. This said, it even just beats a high-end phone, the Nokia 8, despite lacking a bokeh mode. Unsurprisingly for a device at its price point, it doesn’t come with any smart zoom features, but the G5S is capable of capturing images with good exposure and pleasant colors in good light conditions, and offers an accurate autofocus system in still image mode. The autofocus is less reliable in video mode, but still, at a fraction of the price of current high-end models, the Moto G5S packs a decent camera into an attractive aluminum housing, making it an interesting proposition for budget-conscious mobile photographers.

If you want a mid-range phone with a mid-sized screen, the G5S is a great choice. You do pay quite a bit more than the base model G5, but with that you get a better camera, bigger battery and a slightly larger screen. While performance is nigh-on identical, these extras certainly make it worth considering.

The Moto G series has been known to provide a great experience in smartphones at a pocket-friendly price and at Rs 15,999, the Moto G5s Plus continues the tradition. Yes, people have questioned its specs (especially with the emergence of the likes of Xiaomi) but the company has the happy knack of doing more than enough to retain its faithful. And from our experience, the G5s Plus does that as well – it will not blow you away with spectacular specs but it’s smooth performance and distinct looks will grow on you.

The smartphone market in India changes rapidly, and Lenovo's decision to launch special editions of the fifth-generation Moto devices seems like a great move - except for buyers of the originals. Both the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus offer enhancements that help the company stay fresh and take on recently launched competitors. The dual cameras on the Moto G5S Plus will be a good selling point, especially against the Xiaomi Mi A1 (Review), though the experience still requires some polishing from the company's end. Stock Android is generally always a good thing though it's becoming more common now and less of an advantage for Lenovo. Fast charging support is also a big plus.

The Moto G5S Plus and Moto G5S impressed us with their snappy performance in the limited time. Touch inputs and multitasking work well. Cameras on the Moto G5S Plus do seem an upgrade compared to the Moto G5 Plus, in some departments. The depth effect worked smoothly in some samples we clicked. We will, however, reserve our verdict on the Moto G5S Plus and Moto G5S performances and cameras until we get a chance to put them through pace during our detailed review.

The upgrades might appeal to some, but the big price hike won't. The G5s is better built and battery capacity returns to what it was in the Moto G4, but the new unibody design means the battery is no longer removable. Processing power remains the same, so for many, the original G5 still represents the best value.

The Moto G5S Plus is superb value for money. It delivers serious bang for not many bucks. Don’t pay the RRP: the Moto G5S Plus is widely available at discounted prices, which makes it superb value for money and a better bet than the similarly named but less premium-feeling G5 Plus. It’s not one for the spec sheet willy wavers but it delivers solid performance and a decent screen. Our only real niggle is the laggy camera. The Honor 9 may be slightly better, especially for games, but it’s also a lot more expensive.

At this stage, there are just too many mid-range smartphones are using the same tactic of equipping a dual rear camera, nice design look and priced at around RM1K more or less. For the Moto G5S Plus, the price tag of RM999 (below RM800 in our recent price listings) is definitely an attractive one, but there are some tiny issues on the camera performance. If you look past that, it's a fairly decent phone with good gaming capabilities, strong battery pack, useful user interface and motion sensors, the fun Depth mode function and comes in pure stock Android. But is it enough, though?

Sure, you can spend a little more on a phone like the Moto X4, or spend a lot less on a Moto E4-series handset, but this model still represents the sort of middle-of-the-road compromise that will likely resonate with a lot of shoppers.

But back to our reviewee - the Moto G5S Plus. We would have liked to get a bit more out of the camera - for example, the Moto X4 takes similarly underwhelming portraits as this Moto G5S Plus, but the X4 at least has the ultra-wide camera to make up for it.

The Moto G5S Plus is not only the best Moto G phone ever, it’s the best phone under £300 you can buy today. Yes, it is slightly more expensive than the G5 or the Nokia 5, but what you gain in build quality, photography and performance are well worth the extra spend.

The Moto G5S Plus is a solid mid-ranger with a good display, capable processor, large RAM, dual rear cameras, good battery life, and doesn’t ask much at Php14,999. It would have been a stand out if it was released in Q1 or Q2 of 2017. Right now, it’s a tough choice as there are new devices that offer better hardware and design for the same price. To conclude, the G5S Plus is a good phone but it’s going to take more than that if it wants to make a dent on the competition.

Motorola’s Moto G5S Plus joins the growing list of mid-range, budget phones trying to offer dual-rear cameras. The design and display might not have changed, but there are two cameras at the back for those who want portrait style shots. As a general package, Moto G5S Plus has positives like a smooth performance, long battery life. But the USP which is the dual-rear camera is far from perfect. For now, I would say Moto G5S Plus is another option to add to this list and needs to offer more on this front to really stand out.

At $279, you’re getting a phone that’s 90% as capable as devices that cost three times as much. It’s got plenty of internal storage, RAM, and a processor that’s going to be just fine for the next several years, and it’s compatible with all major networks in the US. On top of that, Lenovo is running an early adopter discount that brings the cost down to just $229, seriously undercutting even cheap competition from the likes of OnePlus.

As great as the G5S Plus is, the first G5 Plus was already among the best bargains in the business. Although the special edition is mostly better, it's not as good a value — meaning the original remains the best bargain option for Android users.

Motorola has announced a compelling device in terms of the build quality while improving on the design to improve usability. While the dual camera setup did not impress me much, the unibody metal finish of the device made up for the ordinary camera experience.

How do you improve an already great smartphone? Well according to Motorola, you add dual cameras and a whole lot of metal. The Moto G5 Plus was already a great smartphone. And the Moto G5S Plus improves upon the same. The Moto G5S Plus comes across as a pretty great smartphone - it has butter smooth software, a premium all metal design, a vivid display, a great primary camera for the price, solid battery life and powerful internals. The only chink in the phone's armour is the sub-par dual camera-implementation and the irritating shutter lag.

Overall, the Moto G5S Plus is a decent upgrade to the G5 Plus and the company has priced it at Rs. 15999 and sticks to single 4GB + 64GB version. The phone ticks several right boxes in the price range when it comes to screen, performance, build quality and the phone also offers a decent battery life considering it has a 3000mAh battery. Of course the company could have gone for a bigger battery, but moving from dedicated SIM and microSD slots to hybrid slot is not a good move.

Overall, the Moto G5S Plus is a good option for the users looking to buy a stock Android smartphone under 18K. The depth mode editor still needs improvement as it is still in beta mode. The phone has a good build quality and offers a good grip with a premium feel. The display and Moto Actions on the phone are something a Motorola fan will be excited about.

Moto G5S Plus comes with its own set of pros and cons, but the positives of the device definitely outweigh the negatives. It has an elegant design, a good build quality and a reasonable display. Performance wise, it runs smoothly and has an excellent fingerprint sensor. The cameras and the sound output could have been better. A disappointing aspect was that the heating up of the device while using certain apps.

The Moto G5S Plus is certainly a dependable smartphone, but it's not a sizeable upgrade over the Moto G5 Plus. While its camera can take great photos at times, it's slow and very difficult to depend on. It's a phone you can consider, but not the most value for money device out there.
