Lenovo is now offering the new ThinkPad P53 with the high-end GPU Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 that is usually reserved for larger devices. The cooling solution inside of the Lenovo workstation reaches its limits, which negatively affects the CPU performance.

The ThinkPad P53 joins a long line of Lenovo workstation laptops, offering professionals the performance they need in a surprisingly portable, though still quite beefy, form factor. This model features the classic ThinkPad design paired with a full keyboard and array of ports, extensive configuration options, up to excellent battery life (for a workstation), and vast ISV certifications.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P53 is overall an impressive mobile workstation. It doesn’t have the sleek looks of today’s ultraportable laptops, but it still touts that classic ThinkPad aesthetic and offers incredible power and flexibility. You get all of the latest technology — Thunderbolt 3, RTX graphics, Wi-Fi 6, etc. — in a form factor that still allows you to upgrade your memory and storage.

The ThinkPad P53 represents the best that Lenovo has to offer in a 15.6" workstation. The machine is bulky, but it packs a ton of power into a reasonably portable case. While I can appreciate the insane performance housed within the chassis, the high CPU/GPU operating temperatures and the occasional performance glitches under stress are concerning. Perhaps tuning the fan curve would help control component temperatures.

To be fair though, if you buy a ThinkPad P53, you're not buying it to write articles that will be published on the internet. You're buying it for much more power-intensive tasks than that, and the P53 has all the power. If you're going the mobile workstation route, the ThinkPad P53 is a sure bet. And unlike with last year's P52, I don't have to say that with a caveat since there was newer hardware coming. You're pretty future-proofed with this one.

Nvidia's earth-shaking Quadro RTX 5000 makes the Lenovo ThinkPad P53 one of the most powerful mobile workstations you can buy. It's hefty and pricey, but it obliterates big workflows like nobody's business.
