Overall this is a sleek laptop with plenty to commend it, however it consistently falls short of the performance you get from the Gigabyte Aero 15X. Ordinarily we wouldn’t compare two laptops in the conclusion of a review but the fact is these two models have a huge number of features in common. We do not think Gigabyte did anything especially clever with the Aero 15X, which suggests that MSI might have got something wrong.

While the laptop-gaming market is getting increasingly crowded, MSI's Stealth Thin stands out because it's lightweight but still offers more than enough power for solid 1080p gaming. It's the sort of laptop that would have been unimaginable a few years ago: a 4.1-pound machine that could easily go toe-to-toe with gaming desktops.

Just a few years ago, if you said you wanted 1080p Very High or Ultra gaming performance in a laptop, you’d be lifting eight pounds of laptop. If you wanted a six-core CPU too, that’d be 12 pounds of laptop with a desktop chip inside. And decent battery life? Fuhgetaboutit.

The use of single-channel memory out of the box leads to reduced performance compared to a dual-channel setup, though this was also an issue with the Aero 15X. However the internal layout of the GS65 makes this problem difficult to fix on your own; it is fixable, just you’ll need to take the entire motherboard out and be very careful in the process.

Lastly, there’s the 82Wh battery of the GS65 Stealth Thin. MSI says that the larger battery allows for the notebook to sustain itself for 10 hours off a single charge, but given that this is an engineering sample, we’ll put that to the test in a full review.

All-out attack. With the GS65, MSI has released an uncompromising opponent to the Gigabyte Aero 15X. The GS65 is a 15-inch gaming notebook that impresses us with its combination of outstanding hardware housed in an ultra-thin and lightweight case, just like its main competitor. Who will win out in this battle between gaming notebooks?

Tally up all of the GS65’s wins and it’s hard to find a better laptop that combines portability, power, and general usability, while still maintaining the ability to power through basically any AAA game you throw at it. And while it’s not the least expensive option in this group, it’s still hundreds of dollars less than a comparably equipped Razer Blade.

The MSI GS65 has it where it counts in many ways. It looks a whole heck of a lot nicer than the previous MSI models, it gets a nice IPS 144 Hz screen with tiny bezels, a better keyboard and powerful hardware that actually performs well, with some tweaking. On the other hand, there are two big faults with the machine and that’s the build quality and the cooling system, which can be corrected to some extent. Read on for the whole story.

Ultimately, it’s powerful, but not overpowered, it’s great to interact with and it’s highly-portable – the perfect trifecta. The exoskeleton chassis can’t beat the likes of Apple or HP’s business machines on the catwalk, but it stomps on the pretty boys everywhere else. At $3,399 it’s good value yet not cheap... but then what do you expect from, what is very likely, the best laptop we’ve ever tested?

Not everyone can or will pay for a laptop that costs $2,000 or more, but many shoppers are only willing to concede to a point on performance. The 2019 iteration of the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin is pretty much a hardware bump of last year's model, with Nvidia Turing graphics and a few minor refinements on the side. It remains one of the lightest and most stylish devices in its class, and while Ray Tracing on its own might not be enough to justify the high pricing of the RTX models, combined with the roughly 20% performance gain in regular games and lower inner/outer temperatures, these updated models might offer enough to get on your map, as long as you're not shopping on a budget.

The 2019 iteration of the GS65 is pretty much a hardware bump of last year’s model, with a few minor refinements on the side. It builds on the strong points of the 2018 generation, keeping the design, IO, keyboard, screen, and battery-size, but at the same time does not majorly improve on that crucial aspect many have been complaining about: the build quality. The outer case and chassis still creak, which is hard to accept in such an expensive product. It also gets a fairly dim screen, and if you’re unlucky like we were, you might even draw the short stick and get uneven backlighting and light bleeding.

Like most premium gaming laptops, the GS65 Stealth is quite a pricey affair. However, if you are reading this review piece, then you probably have a fat wallet. With the affordability factor out of the way, the GS65 appeals to the inner 9-year-old while keeping along with your 30-year-old public persona at a gamers meet or eSports event. MSI has shown that it is possible for a gaming laptop to be beautiful and practical at the same time -- two factors that gaming laptops mostly evade. And while its seductive design may keep on drawing eyeballs, it doesn't skimp on performance even by an iota. MSI has got it just right with the perfect combination of a great display, superb cooling system and a heavily satisfying keyboard.

Overall, at Rs 2,09,990, it does burn a significant hole in your pocket but if you are looking for performance and heavy gaming without compromising portability, this might be a great option for you. Nevertheless, it is gonna face fierce competition in this price range and in case you are willing to check out other options then Asus Zephyrus S is a great option to check out as well. The Apple Macbook Pro at this price range is also a great option if you are willing to shift to Mac OS.

As far as thin and light, game-ready notebooks go, MSI’s new GS65 Stealth is, in my personal opinion, in a class of its own. As the titles states, the hardware refreshes are in the places that count, but clearly loses out in other areas. It beats the competition with its 240Hz refresh rate display, but again, it seems a bit excessive, especially when 144Hz would more than suffice.

MSI:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile:
