MSI has packed the Prestige 14 with a powerful 10th generation Intel Core processor and a mid-range NVIDIA GPU, despite the device being just 16 mm thick. Can such a slim and light laptop keep these components cool? Our initial tests suggest so. Read on to find out more in this hands-on review.

With so many layers of nuance, MSI’s Prestige 14 is not an easy laptop to review. We basically think the main fact that sets the Prestige 14 apart from the pack is its weight and the potential performance of the components inside.

So, the question you should ask yourself is how much every ounce matters to you. If you must have 6 cores and a GTX 1650 in as light a package as possible—and you’re willing to accept the limitation of the platform—we can heartily recommend the MSI Prestige 14. If, however, you’re ticked off by giving up any performance for “just” another 8 ounces, then you might want to look elsewhere.

But while MSI has missed its target market, the Prestige 14 is still a fine general-use laptop. It does well with everyday browsing, streaming, and light gaming. If you’re looking for an ultraportable device with a finish that turns heads, it’s a decent option — but you need to be willing to take some heat.

The MSI Prestige 14 is a small powerhouse with a design and equipment that are convincing. We also like the keyboard with its normal-sized arrow keys very much. Our detailed review clarifies how the 14-inch laptop performs for creatives.

If you're comfortable walking a little floofy dog, you'll be fine appearing in public with MSI's Prestige 14 in Rose Pink. This $1,399 ultraportable laptop laughs at boring black and subdued silver shades—it's a vivid metallic pink, a little paler than hot, that makes the lid and keyboard deck stand out (and the unit comes with a carrying case and a mouse to match). The Prestige 14 also outperforms most competitors, thanks to a six-core Intel Core i7 processor and light-gaming-worthy Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics. Its steeper price and positioning keep it from unseating the mainstream Dell Inspiron 14 7000 as our ultraportable Editors' Choice, but it's worth a look if you're considering high-end compacts like the Dell XPS 13 or Razer Blade Stealth 13.

Still, if you're targeting creative professionals, I would have liked a brighter screen and better audio. The performance could have also been a tad better. If you want a bit more oomph and a brighter display, you might want to check out the $1,429 Lenovo Yoga C940 (15-inch). But for creative professionals looking for a powerful notebook with a lot of flair, the MSI Prestige 14 is the way to go.

We love everything about this laptop. While you can get even more power packed in with some devices, it comes at the expense of high pricing and chassis that start resembling cheese graters due to all the air vents built into them. The Prestige offers pretty, portable, performance but what really tips it over the edge is the price. The sticker price tag of $2,099 might not be exactly low, but it’s around a third less than many premium, corporate laptops that we’ve recently reviewed cost - and we’d choose this every day. What’s more, if you’re quick, you can pick one up for just $1,799 which is an absolute steal. The cherry on top is the two-year warranty. We fully recommend it: it’s one of our favourite laptops ever.

The MSI Prestige 14 is a surprisingly powerful laptop in its class and there is a lot to love about it, but what makes me really hyped is that MSI is selling it for an attractive price tag of RM4899, this is at least RM500-RM1000 cheaper than similar spec competing laptops, which you can probably use the savings to invest in an eGPU and a last gen GPU to go with it, as you’d probably want to do so to potentially convert it into a creative workhorse.

Its price also puts it in a weird middle-ground between truly high-end laptops with better all-around specs and cheaper laptops with comparable performance. However, If you need a solid and reliable laptop for sending emails and organizing spreadsheets, the Prestige Evo 14 is a good option to consider.

The MSI Prestige 14 Evo is a thin, light, and powerful laptop with all the features you’d expect from a modern PC (like multiple biometric security options) and some things you might not (like a matte display and support for adjusting processor thermals and performance without entering the BIOS). But it also delivers underwhelming battery life, has quiet speakers, and has an attractive, understated design that also happens to include a lid that collected fingerprints. The port selection is limited, but the inclusion of two Thunderbolt 4 ports almost makes up for that, since you can easily connect a Thunderbolt or USB-C docking station or dongle to connect external devices including displays to graphics cards. As a mobile computing enthusiast, I’d find it hard to justify spending $1,149 on a laptop that doesn’t provide all-day battery life on the go.

Building a capable business laptop is surprisingly difficult, but with the Prestige 14 Evo, MSI shows how it should be done, blending powerful internals with an eye-catching design that stops just short of overdoing it. On top of that, it's got a handful of genuinely useful features and a screen that can go toe-to-toe with more expensive and established rivals. It's not without niggles, however. The keyboard layout takes some getting used to, and the cacophonous fans will take a lot of getting used to, but these are minor gripes. They're especially easy to overlook when you consider the sub-£1,000 pricetag. It's not bargain-basement territory, but it's great value for a machine that that hits all the right notes as a productivity powerhouse.

The MSI Prestige 14 Evo blew me away with its color-accurate display, speedy video transcoding and spectacular Geekbench performance. Analyzing the Prestige 14 Evo’s strengths, I’d recommend this laptop for video and photo editors who need a machine that can handle all of their mid-level content-creation work. You’ll get nearly 11 hours of battery life, competition-beating video conversion, a durable chassis and a slim, lightweight laptop. There’s also a useful suite of pre-installed software for video and photo editing.

MSI’s Prestige 14 laptop line is traditionally marketed to content creators. But the Prestige 14 Evo is in a bit of a murkier spot. It’s priced below the Prestige 14, starting at $1,099, and it doesn’t have the discrete GPU or high-resolution screen that would render it a compelling content-creation machine. Despite its name, the Prestige 14 Evo is an everyday productivity laptop.

Sound and speakers aside, the MSI Prestige 14 Evo is a solid and quite compelling addition to the MSI general purpose laptop line-up. I would like to see MSI rethink the positioning of the trackpad and the softness of the keys but, that said, it is still very user friendly. Visit MSI’s Prestige 14 Evo page for details and costing.

The one bad thing about this laptop would be the price tag, which isn't one that casual consumers would spend. For RM5199, you can get yourself a good gaming laptop that allows you to play games on higher settings. But then again, not everyone is a gamer. It's also slightly more affordable than the Prestige 14's RM5399 price tag, so the choice is yours.

Lisa Gade reviews the MSI Prestige 14 Evo 14” Ultrabook with Intel 11th gen Tiger Lake CPUs and Intel Iris Xe graphics. The MSI competes with consumer and business 14” laptops and is Intel Evo certified for long runtimes, instant wake, Thunderbolt 4 and PCIe 4. The Evo is available in 3 colors, has a full HD matte non-touch display, a fingerprint scanner and Windows Hello IR camera. It has USB-A port and microSD card slot unlike some competitors. It’s priced a few hundred dollars less than the premium Ultrabook competition like the Dell XPS 13, Razer Book and 13” M1 MacBook Pro. For those wanting NVIDIA dedicated graphics, there’s the Prestige 14 and 15 non-EVO models.

There will always be some sacrifices when cramming powerful hardware into ultraportable laptops, but overall MSI has done well, and the package you get is fairly balanced while offering value for money. If you prioritise portability, you should definitely check out this laptop. It doesn't have the discrete Iris Xe Max GPU like the similarly priced Acer Swift 3X, but these two 11th Gen 'Tiger Lake' laptops are comparable in many ways including hardware and portability.

What holds the Prestige 14 back from a stronger recommendation is a handful of design demerits. The flex in the aluminum lid and bottom panel is concerning, the display could be brighter, and the flimsy touchpad can't match the excellence of the keyboard. The biggest drawback, however, is the frequent fan noise. It's not surprising that the cooling fan kicks in during intensive graphical tasks, but it also made itself heard when opening a dozen tabs in Chrome or having more than a few apps running at once. The fan usually cycles off after a minute or two, but it's still annoying. Ultraportable shoppers seeking better fit and finish may want to spend a bit more for a premium machine like the Dell XPS 13 or the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

If there's any nit to pick with this MSI laptop it's thermal performance. We can't help but wonder if some extra speed is locked away behind a thermal system that struggles to keep its 28 W CPU under target temperatures. Thankfully, this is forgivable because of its premium, light-weight design and reasonably well-behaved acoustics. Users who want the best top-end performance in this weight class for a very attractive price point would be well-served to look into the Intel Tiger Lake-powered MSI Prestige 14 EVO.

Overall, I actually like the MSI Prestige Evo 14 is actually a great laptop. It performs really well, has an overall decent battery life overall, a good screen, a fantastic keyboard, and most importantly – high-speed ports. There are a few shortcomings here and there but to me, they’re not a huge deal. Though I would like to see a touch-screen option for the Prestige series. That’ll be a fantastic alternative to the ultrawide trackpad and its palm rejection.

But the one area where MSI has done very well is on price. As of this writing, the Prestige 14 Evo starts at just $1149 USD, and that includes the Core i7-1185G7, 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. Due to Intel now segmenting its CPU stack with differing GPU sizes, which followed what AMD has done with Vega, the starting price is a very compelling package. You can pick a couple of colors, and a couple of drive sizes, but unlike most of the competition, the base model is pretty much fully decked out. Despite a design that can’t quite match some of the others in the market, MSI’s Prestige 14 Evo does pack a punch for a reasonable price.

We really liked the MSI Prestige 14 EVO when we first took a look at the system earlier this year. It has an attractive, clean design, good battery life, a mid-sized form factor that would likely appeal to current users of both 13.3" to 15" machines, and its powered by a leading-edge platform which requires minimal compromise for the vast majority of consumers. Refreshing the MSI Prestige EVO with the Core i7-1195G7 takes what was already a nice machine, and gives the overall experience a bit of a boost. While the Core i7-1195G7 isn't a massive upgrade in terms of multi-threaded or graphics performance versus its predecessor, the Core i7-1185G7, its markedly higher clock speed with single or lightly-threaded workloads -- when the cooling system in this sub-3lb, .6" thick machine isn't being thoroughly stressed -- results in some nice performance boosts where it matters for most everyday computing workloads.

The Prestige 14 2022 is a decent business laptop from MSI that can be used for both work and play, and its design makes it one of the sleeker offerings the brand has to offer. However, the high power consumption of the Prestige 14 2022’s processor, along with a rather undersized battery, leads to a short battery life.

The MSI Prestige 14” is excellent for productivity and business use cases, but it is not ideal for creators or visual content editors. The Prestige was able to power through days of email, spreadsheets, and text documents without breaking a sweat and was a joy to use. The additional ports were a breath of fresh air, as most laptops seem to be moving towards just Thunderbolt ports. The security options made signing in effortless, with two quick, more secure, and faster options than even the most complex alphanumeric passcode. Visually, we’re a big fan, as we love matte dark greys and minimalist designs. The barely-there logo and dark accents were also aspects that we appreciated. A considerable deficit for this laptop is the lack of battery life, which is not as long as might be expected - however, the MSI Prestige 14” is worth considering if you are looking for a powerhouse that mostly lives at a desk and is not always on the go.

If you can live without a vivid, bright display and crisp speakers, the MSI Prestige 14 Evo should be more than satisfactory in workplace performance. It isn’t the best in its class, but it’s still swift and packs a powerful punch, making it a great pick for running processor-intensive programs, transcoding videos, and downloading huge files. The Prestige 14 Evo also generally does a good job managing air circulation, thanks to its ability to prop itself up, although heat tips slightly above our comfort threshold under intensive use. The laptop also doesn’t last as long on a charge as we would’ve liked, but it should get you through most of a work day. But if you need clear, loud built-in speakers and a bright display, you’ll want to look elsewhere. The Prestige 14 Evo is serviceable for everyday use, but there’s nothing particularly special or standout about this laptop.

The MSI Prestige 14 Evo is built and sold as a business laptop, but looking at this machine in that frame of mind does it a bit of a disservice. Its rapid-fire CPU and great keyboard are ideal for work, of course, but they motor through most other tasks – and the Evo delivers solid battery life, connectivity and dimensions inside a good-looking design. Of course, spending a bit more will get you a sturdier and better-looking Dell or Apple notebook with a better screen. You can also save cash on the standard Prestige 14 and sacrifice CPU power for a discrete graphics core. Despite its imperfections, though, there’s plenty to like about the MSI Prestige 14 Evo. It’s fast, slim, light and affordable, so it gets the job done at work and beyond.

Much more than a dull business laptop, the MSI Prestige 14 Evo is a slick and light PC with a solid keyboard and unusually good control over the powerful Intel Core i7-1280P CPU. It lets you run the processor almost unnervingly hard, offering great flexibility for more advanced PC users.

The good parts of the Prestige 14 are excellent. The chipset imbues it with an impressive level of performance while the design, build quality and keyboard are absolutely top-notch. The screen is good too; granted it’s a rather traditional Full HD non-touch affair, but technically it’s better than the norm in this category of laptops and at this price point. The speaker system could be better though, as could the webcam. Both of these drawbacks wouldn’t take much - in terms of effort or money - to fix. The real drawback is the battery life. For a machine designed for on-the-go productivity, six and a half hours is a good distance shy of ideal and isn’t really good enough. Users who don’t stray far from a power outlet will be more than happy with the Prestige 14 - the more nomadic worker, perhaps less so.

The MSI Prestige 14 stands out for its ultrabook form factor without sacrificing discrete graphics performance. Input-output options are reasonable, but a full-size HDMI, upgrading to a full-size SD card reader, and maybe adding a second full-size USB-A, would go a long way to making the Prestige 14 an even more business/content creator-focused device. While many laptops suffer from a significant performance drop when unplugged, the Prestige 14 doesn't slow down. This isn't the most exciting laptop to use or look at, but for its size, it's hard to compete with.
