The Lumia 925 stands apart from preceding Windows handsets that Nokia styled more for pre-teens, with a slightly more sophisticated metal and grey plastic look. As a piece of phone hardware it’s competently put together, but ultimately is undermined by an aesthetically challenged and unintuitive software interface, while you’ll be lucky to find half the apps you might need to load on it.

Although we were highly impressed with the Lumia 920's video footage, we weren't bowled over by its daylight photos, finding them well-exposed, but over-processed, which led to a loss of detail. The Lumia 820's pictures aren’t as processed so appear sharper, but the flipside is some slightly washed-out colours. It's by no means a bad camera, but certainly not up there with the best models we've seen such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC Windows Phone 8X.

Overall, the Nokia Lumia 830 is a huge improvement over its predecessor, with spec bumps in almost every area possible. It's speedier, can capture better photographs, offers a much better and bigger screen and has a significantly more attractive design, in addition to the extra storage space and newer software. We'd still recommend checking out other mid-range smartphones before making your purchasing decision, though, as the Lumia 830 has some solid rivals from competing companies.

No matter, the Lumia 620 wears its inexpensive Windows Phone credentials on its sleeves. It comes in a range of cheery bright colours, with a selection of coloured cases that you can remove and swap. The build feels mostly plastic and far from premium, but it is what it is and it certainly doesn't suffer from comparison with the BlackBerry Z10.

Nokia's declaration of price. With an RRP of below 200 Euros (~$262), the Lumia 520 is a very affordable Windows Phone 8 smartphone. The somewhat more expensive Lumia 620 has only been available for a short time. But which entry-level model should the buyer opt for? The variety of choice makes it hard to choose, but notebookcheck.net is here to help.

If you can stretch your budget a little further, though, the Lumia 630 is much better value, as you not only get an awful lot more for your money, including a more pleasing design, but a much better screen and an even better battery life. At £87 SIM-free or £60 on O2 Pay & Go, we think it's worth the extra expense.

Lumia 520 vs Motorola Moto E comparison review: best cheap smartphones you can buy in the UK in 2014 There is little to choose between the Moto E and the Lumia 520. Indeed, the chief thing to note is that these are both great handsets at a remarkably low price. The Lumia 520 is thinner and lighter, and comes in multiple colours. The Moto E is marginally cheaper and more powerful. And it has a bigger, better display. You will make your own choice, but for us the combination of that display and the greater flexibility of Android makes us choose the Moto E.

The Nokia Lumia 520 fits comfortably in the hands. Rounded corners and sides help you to easily operate it in a single hand. Even with a removable rear panel it doesn't creak or flex under pressure, although the build is a touch plasticky and you'll be constantly wiping away greasy fingerprints. It is solid, and you won't need a case to prevent scratches, however.

An ideal first smartphone for those who are willing to part with only £100 or less, the Lumia 520 is a well built inexpensive handset with all the features you need. Indeed, at this price you could consider it a second phone: a robust backup for those times when you don't want to risk your hugely expensive main phone, but you need to be able to contact and interact with the world.

Everything about this smartphone - screen, camera, battery life - is just about good enough to raise it above the usual cheap suspects. And with Nokia’s ace apps and colourful back covers, there are a few added extras that help to explain how the 520 has bagged so many fans around the globe. That said, if Android can get a look-in (which it should), we’re sticking with the Moto G as our afford-a-phone of choice. It’s still the benchmark for budget smartphones and manages to make capable kit such as the Lumia 520 look second best.

The iPhone 5c is Apple's 'budget' phone, but there looks to be very little budget about it (even the price), so comparing it to the Nokia Lumia 520 is a bit unfair as that genuinely is a budget smartphone. The iPhone 5c will obviously be the better smartphone, but its price holds it back a little.

The Nokia Lumia 520, much like its big brother the Nokia Lumia 620, is a jack of all trades and a master of none - although manages to make a good fist of nearly all it tries, for the price. Budding photographers might find the lack of a flash prohibitive and if you're a power user you might want to consider the Huawei Ascend W1 for its superior battery life, but for everyone else the Nokia Lumia 520 comes heartily recommended.

This is the cheapest Windows Phone 8 device you can buy at the moment, a mobile platform that Microsoft has promised to support at least for the next two years. The phone is incredibly well priced at Rs. 10,499 and should attract many of those looking to buy their first smartphones, or students who may be on a tight budget. However, just because the phone is cheap, does that mean it can't live up to our expectations? We find out.

The Nokia Lumia 520 is a great little smartphone. It delivers what Nokia is known for, with good design and build quality, despite the affordable price point. A few hardware shortcuts have been made, knocking out the flash, front camera and NFC, for example, which the slightly more expensive Lumia 620 offers. But at this price there's little to criticise. It's a competent smartphone, delivering the Windows Phone 8 experience aptly, so if you're in the market for a smartphone that won't cost the earth, it's well worthy of consideration. If you have a few pounds more, however, then it's worth looking at the Lumia 620 too.

Night owl. Not even one year has passed between the release of Nokia's Lumia 920 and its successor, the Lumia 925. Supposedly, the already great camera has seen further improvements. In addition, Nokia's Windows Phone flagship has been slimmed down and equipped with an AMOLED screen. A simple facelift or an example of successful evolution?

When the Lumia 925 launched nearly a year ago, it was the best Windows Phone 8 handset around. Now widely available for around half its launch price (£240, down from £500) it's still a fantastic phone and a real bargain particularly since it's now available with Windows Phone 8.1 and will be getting a free upgrade to Windows 10 later this year.

The Lumia 925 improves on most aspects of the Lumia 920, which was already the best high-end Windows Phone 8 handset. We like the new, semi-metal chassis, the screen is superb and Nokia continues to impress with its innovative apps. If you're set on Windows Phone 8 this is the handset to buy, but, as with the 920, a lacklustre camera holds it back from an award.

Overall, the Nokia Lumia 925 is a capable, high-end smartphone that’s enjoyable to use. It crams core components from the Lumia 920 into a slimmer, lighter body, and has an improved camera along with fun extra features. We can’t, however, recommend a phone with battery life this poor, no matter how much we like it. With that said, we still enjoyed our time with the Lumia 925 as it felt quick and responsive for the most part, its screen offered some really impressive visuals and some of the included software, such as Nokia Smart Cam and HERE Maps, can easily compete with similar included software available on iOS and Android devices. In times when Samsung is criticised for its lack of design innovations and Apple is too cautious to experiment, Nokia has come up with yet another beautiful handset that looks nothing like the 920 or 928. The Lumia 925 ticks all the right boxes in terms of multimedia and productivity. The phone sports a fantastic screen and hard-to-beat camera. In 925, Nokia hasn’t just used Carl Zeiss lens to strengthen the specs sheet, but has actually taken advantage of it with cleverly designed apps. Thus proving that there are other ways to innovate and differentiate than just increasing the screen size or putting faster processors. All in all, it’s a top-notch phone, priced rightly at Rs 32,000.

The Nokia Lumia 925 is undeniably a great phone in its own right, but it's just not a big enough improvement over the Nokia Lumia 920 for there to be any reason to buy it if you own last year's model. Even if you don't, you might be better off buying the Nokia Lumia 920, since it's substantially cheaper at around £330/US$400/AU$420 SIM-free. Some call Windows Phone refreshing, but it does still come with limitations and lacks a certain fluidity that Nokia hasn't managed to fix with the Lumia 925. This is a good phone, sure, but as a flagship we need to have our socks blown off, and at last check they were still firmly on our feet.

Nokia makes some stellar, well-built phones, and the 925 is no different than the rest of the gang. The Nokia Lumia 925 is by far the best smartphone the brand has made yet, and of course that’s the conundrum one always faces when reviewing a Windows Phone 8 handset. Thanks to the camera, design and screen the Lumia 925 could well be afive-star product, however the inclusion of Windows Phone 8 does dampen the mood slightly due to the fact that while the app situation is improving the operating system itself is in need of some innovation.

Nokia’s answer to the Three Flagship Puzzle is that “it’s a different expression of what we delivered in the 920” – a reasonable description of bringing last year’s advanced technology to something most people can live with comfortably. It’s a whole lot more sleek and stylish than anything Nokia has produced since switching to Windows Phone, and classier than its plasticky-feeling rivals too.

Camera or phone? With an almost absurd resolution of 41 megapixels, the Lumia 1020 ridicules the entire competition. The rest of the specs, however, have remained almost unchanged when compared to the Lumia 925. Whether its high amount of pixels remains the only advantage of the Finnish smartphone, our review will show.

The Lumia 1020 launched in the UK back in September 2013, but there's still nothing like it out there. The 41-megapixel camera really makes this phone stand out and is a major reason to buy it over any other smartphone. As it is now been superseeded by newer, shinier things you can also pick the Lumia 1020 up on the cheap. At the time of writing Orange has it on a 24 month contract with 1,000 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data for £27.99 per month, with no extra charge for the handset.

The QX10 has an obvious advantage here because you can look at the camera and line up a very good selfie or group portrait. The other images use the front-facing cameras which are significantly smaller and not as good. You could use the rear camera but it's harder that way.

The Lumia 1020 has the same 4.5in, 1,280x720 AMOLED screen as the Lumia 925, which is one of the best mobile screens there is, as well as the same dual-core 1.5GHz processor; Windows Phone flies on this handset, and a hugely quick score of 913ms in the Sunspider JavaScript benchmark shows complicated web pages are not a problem. As with any Windows Phone handset, you need to consider whether the platform does what you need; it's slick and great-looking, but not as flexible as Android and still doesn’t have as great a choice of apps, although the situation is improving.

Nokia’s best price for the Lumia 1020 is Rs 47,222 but we have seen it going for lesser online. Despite the brilliant camera, good battery life and excellent build – it’s still way too expensive to be recommended. Given how the prices of other Lumias have dropped drastically, we predict a similar price drop heading for the 1020 as well in order to make room for the newer phones, expected next year. If priced under Rs 35,000, we say go ahead and take the plunge as it’s certainly more compact and classier than the Galaxy S4 Zoom. Plus, you’ll also have access to some really cool apps like Nokia Refocus. Anything above the price though and you’re better off with a Sony Xperia Z1 or a LG G2.

However, it’s all about the camera with the Nokia Lumia 1020, and on this front, it’s a huge success; combined with decent smartphone capabilities, it’s an alluring proposition. It’s expensive, but it’s also the most desirable Windows Phone 8 handset yet.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a phone that Nokia felt required a companion. Thus they made the Camera Grip for the said phone and we didn't wait too long to bring these two friends together. Are they made for each other or is Nokia just perpetuating a relationship that just doesn't exist? We find out.

The Lumia 1020 is undoubtedly the best camera phone in the market. Not just the great optics, but Nokia has done an excellent job with the camera software. Apart from that, it flaunts an excellent screen, great sound quality, sturdy construction, and a bunch of productivity apps including Microsoft Office suite. It’s also refreshing to see a manufacturer bringing something unique to the table, when most companies are busy putting absurdly powerful chips and gigantic screens on their phones. On the other hand, there are a few annoyances such as three seconds of shot-to-shot time and relatively low count of games. All in all, the 1020 is a premium smartphone with an extraordinary camera that fits in your pocket. To get great results though, you’ll have to let your creativity run loose and be ready to experiment a lot.

The Lumia 1020 is built on a hardware platform that has established itself to work rather well with the Windows Phone 8 operating system, as we have seen in the Lumia 920 and the Lumia 925. What is somewhat of a bomb feature about the phone is the PureView camera, which is sluggish despite the 2GB of RAM, but does take good photos. Regardless, if you're a stickler for image quality and want a good, slim, powerful camera in your pockets, then the Nokia Lumia 1020 should be your number one consideration, at least as far as phones go.

The Lumia 1020 has an amazing camera, the best in a smartphone, and will tempt most smartphone photographers. However, it's expensive for what is essentially a now out-of-date Lumia 920 with a better snapper. Poor battery life and a lack of good apps for the OS put us off significantly.

Summing up, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is by far the best camera-phone we've ever used, with its 41MP rear sensor blowing the competition clean out of the water. Even better, unlike its predecessor the 808 Pureview, the 1020 also stands up as pretty decent phone in its own right, with the slew of Nokia innovations doing a stellar job of showcasing all the positive points of Windows Phone. However, costing a hefty £550 SIM-free the phone comes with a premium price tag that is sure to put most businesses of mass rollouts.

Apps like Instagram, Snapseed and Vine would be terrific additions to Windows Phone 8, and it would really help this camera shine. But with the lack or slow development of those types of apps, there is more incentive to go with Android or iOS.

The bottom line is if you take your smartphone camera seriously, you should really consider the Lumia 1020 as you probably won’t be able to take pictures this highly-detailed with any other smartphone on the market as of this writing. Even though Windows Phone 8 isn’t popular right now, the operating system will still be able to perform many day-to-day tasks that most people experience on a daily basis. Just don’t expect a dedicated YouTube app yet.

Nokia's battle in the global smartphone race is an intriguing one, and those who follow technology have long wondered if the company's decision to hitch its wagon to Microsoft was a wise one. The bigger issue, of course, is that no Lumia is able to overcome Microsoft's ecosystem hurdle.

On top of that it's mighty expensive - at least in the US. Perhaps Nokia will surprise us and launch it for less in the UK, but we reckon that's highly unlikely. That will leave the much more affordable Lumia 925 as the Windows Phone of choice for most people looking to inject live-tile loveliness into their smartphone life. For the camera geek elite, though, the Lumia 1020 is well worth the stretch.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 faces an uphill battle: Not only is it competing against heavyweights such as the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5, but it is also fighting against the stigma surrounding the Windows Phone OS. The Lumia 1020 is an excellent phone with one of the best all-around cameras out there, but its AT&T exclusivity and older hardware make it a hard sell. If you’re an AT&T customer who has been curious about Windows Phone, I strongly urge you to pick up the Lumia 1020. For everyone else, you’ll have to ask yourself whether a fancy camera and the struggling Windows Phone ecosystem are enough to break your contract over.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 represents a true breakthrough, offering the best smartphone camera we've ever used. It's so good that you'll never need a point-and-shoot camera, and even entry-level DSLR owners may find they're schlepping them around less. It’s clear that the Lumia 1020 isn’t for everyone. The size of the phone, although considerably improved over the 808, is still more of a pocket-filler than the flagships running iOS and Android, and while the PureView system itself is impressive, not everybody needs the flexibility that it offers. It’s that, more than anything, that keeps the Nokia Lumia 1020 in its niche position. Stomach the intermittent pauses and the PureView camera system is incredible, but everyday users convinced by Windows Phone might find the Lumia 925 offers a better balance of optics, usability, and design. Nonetheless, when PureView delivers, it’s hard not to be charmed by Nokia’s photography obsession.

Well, the Nokia Lumia 1520 is still a fantastic thing to think about, especially in the Windows Phone camp. Its biggest strength now, aside from its great camera, is the low cost that’s attached to it – where you can find it for as low as free with a 2-year contract. Conversely, you’re going to pay a cool $300 to pick up the Note 4 on-contract, but the money invested in it shows whys it’s a premium thing from head-to-toe.

The 1520 is the biggest, most powerful Windows Phone to date, and continues Nokia’s legacy of pushing the Windows Phone envelope. While it might not have the large sensor of the Lumia 1020, its camera is still hugely impressive, producing shots that are good enough to lay your compact cam to rest. Its huge 6in screen is superbly bright and clear, even in daylight, and Windows Phone 8 runs faster than a jetpack-wearing cheetah.

As mentioned earlier, the only and biggest problem with this phone is its size. Had Nokia fused this hardware with a 4.5" screen, it would have been a killer phone. But, the current screen size is not everyone's cup of tea. So if you're looking for a Windows Phone, the Lumia 1020 and 925 are better options, unless you give too much importance to specs. For "phablet" lovers, it's going to be a tough call between the 1520 and Note 3. We believe that if the built quality and camera are you priorities, go for the 1520. On the other hand, if you like the idea of using stylus, the Note 3 is the way to go.

Personally, I’d recommend neither the 1520 nor the 1020 at their current price point, as they are too expensive when you consider what the competition has to offer. If you only look at a specific aspect, like imaging for instance, then these phones are easily the best in the market. But as an overall package, the Android offerings are simply better. I hate to bring this up again but you simply can’t ignore the fact that Windows Phone apps still have a lot of catching up to do, compared to Android and iOS. That’s not to say there aren’t good apps, just not enough.

While Nokia’s colorful unibody design feels great to hold and overall the phone is quite ergonomic for the size, the handset is certainly massive and could be quite cumbersome in unaccustomed hands. I can’t help but feel the device would appeal to a wider audience if it was smaller. A 5-inch handset with the same internals could well be a killer Windows Phone. The Lumia 1520 is definitely the best Windows Phone I’ve used so far. It can be a hard sell up against a seasoned contender like the Note 3, but there’s no doubting that Nokia keeps improving delivering yet another high-end quality handset.

If you want a Windows Phone with a supersized high-resolution screen, this is currently the only game in town. Nokia is the only manufacturer truly committed to Windows Phone, and with its acquisition by Microsoft now complete, it's unlikely that any other company will bother developing such a device. The Lumia 1520 retails for roughly the same street price as the Lumia 1020, and both could be described as flagships of the line, depending on your priorities. The 1020's camera is simply unbeatable, and is the only thing keeping the 1520 from dominating the specifications charts in every category. However, the 1520's screen and nearly all its internal components are a generation ahead of the 1020's. So this is easily the most powerful Windows Phone we've ever used, but does that make it a great phone? We're hesitant to make a recommendation. If you love giant phones, there are quite a few Android options with screens and hardware that match the Lumia 1520, and they have the benefit of better optimised software and a far more substantial library of apps. If you love Windows Phone, there are cheaper options. The Lumia 1520 does stand out when it comes to its camera and looks, but you'd have to be pretty passionate about either of those things to spend close to Rs. 50,000 on this phone.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is as good a phablet as Windows Phone could ever offer, make no mistake. On the shop shelf, it’s a far more attractive option than the banal plastic Galaxy Note 3, but as ever, it’s let down by Microsoft’s software, which offers no real reason to exist on a screen so larger. If Nokia could have worked in dual-screen app support or even just a stylus for those with smaller fingers, they’d be on to a winner: as it stands, anyone with the hands to hold a phablet will find Samsung’s entrant far more productive.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which ups the phablet game with its stylus and pen-friendly software tweaks, the Lumia 1520 is a simpler device; a Windows Phone 8 handset with a very big, high-resolution screen. It’s a combination that works, though; the Lumia 1520 is fast, beautifully made and has a good screen, so if you fancy a phone/tablet hybrid with Windows Phone 8's advantages of super-fast performance and arguably the best-looking interface out there, it's the handset to buy. However, if you're not set on a particular operating system, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 remains a more versatile handset with a larger selection of apps in the Google Play store.

There's a lot to love about the Nokia Lumia 1520, from the gorgeous display, to the precision-designed shell and the fantastic photos taken by the camera. Yet, it just doesn't use the full potential of having 6 inches of screen to play with - making everything bigger is simply not a solution. We'd have loved to see a stylus, or something unique that you wouldn't get on a regular-sized device, but, sadly, nothing like that is here.

Despite the Lumia 1520’s thinner profile and top-notch specifications, I wouldn’t recommend it as your first Windows Phone device. It’s too big for any phone, and Nokia’s participation in the large-phone craze is just another indication that it’s playing catch-up, not leading. This isn’t something I’d expect from the company that helped to make cell phones the household items they are today. I remember lusting after the 3310 way back when, and I know that the designers at Nokia still have it in ’em to inspire that kind of desire in consumers. They just need to be smarter and more aware of what’s a trend (cameras!) and what’s a gimmick (giant phones!).

There’s a big market for big phones. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and its predecessors have shown us that, and the gradually increasing size of the average flagship handset’s display suggests the rest of the market has caught on. The Lumia 1520 has seen Nokia jump ahead in terms of screen real-estate, and the display itself is a real winner. For the moment, there’s no other Windows Phone that offers the same power and display resolution as the Lumia 1520. Give it some time, though, and other devices will catch up, leaving the key reason to opt for the 6-inch Nokia being its vast screen. Some will consider that reason enough to buy, but anybody hoping for the flexibility of a true phablet may discover the Lumia 1520 is simply a bigger version of handsets that came before it, not necessarily a better one.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is a very good phone, but it's not for everyone. Its size accounts for most of that, as it's large even by 'large phone' standards and heavier than some people will tolerate. The camera isn't a total success, either, despite the very good image quality.

This is, undoubtedly, Nokia's best Lumia phone to date, and that's in part thanks to Microsoft, with the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update and its support for HD 1080p screens and quad-core processors finally making Windows Phone devices able to compete against iOS and Android.

As far as a Windows Phone 8 device, the Lumia 1520 may not be one of our favorites, but it’s a device that is a welcomed addition to the phablet world. Its large 6-inch 1080p display is downright impressive and will keep your eyes very happy with whatever it is you’re viewing on it. We still wish Nokia would figure out how to make their line of Lumia devices charge within a reasonable amount of time as well as not be so difficult to grip when attempting to type on their devices, but this is certainly areas that we could learn to live with considering just how much goodness the Lumia 1520 offers.

As of this writing, the $99 Lumia 1520 is about $25 more expensive than the Galaxy Mega, but the small premium is more than worth it. For less than $100, you're getting a massive 6-inch 1080p display, a superb camera, LTE speeds, and more than 11 hours of battery life.

Windows Phone has never looked this good. So how does Nokia look when its flagship smartphone has all of the latest and greatest hardware? Pretty darn good. In some ways (not least of which is that we’ve not got our hands on the 1520) it’s too early to give concrete buying advice. However, on the other hand, the fact that the Note 3 runs Android is a big advantage over the Lumia 1520 which runs Windows Phone 8. Both phablets have good cameras, but each has different strengths and weaknesses. With very similar processors, neither will disappoint when it comes to performance. We’ll update this review once we’ve fully tested out the Lumia 1520.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 possesses a specs sheet to rival the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Sony Xperia Z1, and what’s more, the overall package feels bang on the mark from first use. In a market of super-sized, super-speced smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 1520 has brought the Finnish manufacturer back into the race. While we require more time with the device before we can pass final judgement, on first impressions we are highly impressed with this 6-inch beast and look forward to spending more time with the device shortly.

What's Nokia done here? Made something that we can't criticise from the spec sheet alone? The answer has to be yes: the CPU, screen, design and expansion offerings are all the things we've been gagging to see for months, if not years. The extra apps are standard fare from the firm: bringing user upgrades in a way that delivers actual performance… we're actually quite intrigued by Storyteller as an app, although it can be a little cumbersome to use.

More light! Nokia's first and last tablet with Windows RT 8.1 has an incredibly bright display, a fast processor and the ability to access the Internet via LTE -- but it also has some unusual weaknesses. The software and camera are no more than average, and the manufacturing quality is not exactly up to par either. We expected more from a company who was once a mobile communications pioneer.

A great piece of hardware limited by the Windows RT operating system. The Lumia 2520 packs a beautiful design, top display and 4G connectivity on the. But Windows interface holds the tablet back from competing with Android and iOS counterparts. With reports suggesting that Windows RT could be ditched in the near future, can’t recommend this device.

Nokia's top-notch hardware is let down by Microsoft's lacklustre Windows 8.1, which still falls short as a tablet OS. There's still an alarming lack of dedicated apps, and the awkward touch-screen navigation of its desktop mode is begging for a mouse or stylus. We want to love the Lumia 2520, as its bright and cheerful glossy polycarbonate body is a zesty alternative to Microsoft's own drab and dreary Surface - but Windows RT 8.1 as a tablet OS still falls flat. Maybe next time?

If you’re looking for a portable device purely for web browsing and Microsoft Office, the Nokia Lumia 2520 is a good buy. The Microsoft Surface 2 is cheaper, but we think the extra cost is justified given the Lumia 2520’s integrated 4G, faster processor and better battery life. Windows RT is still an awkward middle ground between desktop and mobile operating systems, but if you’re willing to give Windows RT a chance there’s no doubt the Lumia 2520 is the best device to try it on.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 is a solid first stab at a tablet for Nokia and would have won plaudits had it been released a year or two ago. Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite match up to the best new tablets recently released by Amazon or Apple and it isn’t quite as flexible as the Surface 2 – that is until the keyboard goes on sale. In addition, Windows RT and the Windows Store just don’t offer the same ease of use and app selection as you will find on Android and iOS.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 is a seriously impressive piece of kit. While we're still not enamoured with Windows RT, Nokia's done a great job showcasing all the OS' positive aspects, while simultaneously adding a few of its own. This combined with its great battery life, 4G connectivity and better than average display make it one of the best Windows RT tablets we've experienced. However, as is the case with all Windows tablets, we're a bit disappointed Nokia hasn't bundled the 2520 with an attachable keyboard. The lack of a keyboard makes taking advantage of the 2520's Office features a little tricky and does hamper its overall enterprise appeal.

Despite our reservations over Windows RT, there's no denying that this is a top-quality piece of hardware. For only £41 more – it looks like a bargain.

If you’re happy with the Lumia body, there’s lot to love about the 2520, which injects some much needed fun into Windows tablets. It’s lighter and more compact than the Surface 2 with a punchier Full HD screen, better battery life, 4G and excellent Nokia apps. The flawed Windows RT OS is just too much for us to live with but if you can trade creative apps for the Office suite and plump for the Power Keyboard, it could just work. Then again, full-fat Windows 8 tablets that aren’t limited to the Store, such as the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2, offer full-fat Windows 8 and can be picked up from £450.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 is a pretty good Windows RT tablet, but that makes it second best in a category of only two new devices. The Microsoft Surface 2, our Windows RT tablet Editors' Choice, keeps the title thanks to Microsoft's complimentary services and the flexibility afforded by a full-size USB port. But while the Lumia 2520 has a few drawbacks, the biggest liability is Windows RT—there are better options available that give you either a richer selection of apps, like the Apple iPad Air, or run the full version of Windows, like the Asus Transformer Book T100TA.

Considering the Lumia 2520 is Nokia's first Windows tablet, the company produced a strong product its first time out. Because it's so lightweight, the 2520 is easier to use in tablet mode than the Surface 2, and that stunning 665-nit display makes the experience even sweeter. Add to that long battery life, a high-quality camera and some generous pricing ($499 with LTE and 32GB of storage), and it's pretty clear Nokia did good.

And that’s exactly what Microsoft needs right now: some energy in its mobile portfolio. Nokia needed a tablet. It took its time with the Lumia 2520, and in many places that consideration shows. The decisions to go with a more usable display and a fast-charging system do make sense for what’s billed as a tablet for work and play, and while the absence of a WiFi-only model does mean there’s no low-cost model, you have to give Nokia some credit for sticking to its connectivity guns.

The Lumia 2520 is a powerful Windows 8 tablet that can last for hours upon hours on a single charge. Its simple yet beautiful design is one that will certainly stand out among other Windows 8 tablets, especially its Full HD 1080p display. There isn’t much holding back the Lumia 2520, except for something like a USB port, which could be helpful for those who want to be able to access external hard drives or SD cards on their Windows 8 tablet. Other than that, we can’t praise the Lumia 2520 enough. If you’re in the market for a powerful Windows 8 machine that will probably last much longer than a typical work day, then the Lumia 2520 is what you’ve been looking for.

A fresh phablet. Pursuing the Lumia 1520, Nokia sends another 6-inch phablet featuring HD resolution and Windows Phone 8 into the race, called the Lumia 1320. Its power and configuration are no match for the premium model, but it is nevertheless a strong smartphone.

Ultimately, I just couldn't work out where to stick the Lumia 1320. (Readers will no doubt tell me where). Encasing it in a book-style flip case just seemed to make it even more gargantuan. I could leave it in a reporter's bag (leather, John Lewis - heavier than anything that ever goes in it) - but I prefer not to, I miss too many calls and I would rather have something so basic within easier reach.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is a great mid-range Windows phablet. While the camera's by far its weakest point, it's a superb alternative to the considerably more expensive Lumia 1520 and we greatly prefer it to other Android phablets such as the HTC One Max and Samsung Galaxy Mega. If you're not fussed about taking pictures then the 1320's great screen and excellent battery life is just the thing for surfing the web and watching films and TV on the move, all without breaking the bank.

If you like a big phone, but don't want to spend too much money, this is a highly attractive handset. Screen resolution is not tip top, but more than adequate and the Nokia benefits of easy readability in bright sunshine or being usable through gloves means the phone is good to use in summer and winter. Nokia's usual app extras that handle mapping and music are as impressive as ever, and the camera effects are neat and enjoyable. The camera may only be 5MP resolution, but it takes good photos. The Windows Phone app store is still much weaker than Apple and Android rivals, but it's catching up fast in terms of key titles. Still, if you have a particular favourite it's worth checking if it or something similar is available.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is positioned as budget alternative to the all-powerful Nokia Lumia 1520, but there's a problem. The Nokia Lumia 1520 has dropped in price significantly, making the 1320 seem surplus to requirements. Comparisons aside, it's an extremely hefty phone that lacks Nokia's usual design flair, with a workmanlike plastic construction that's prone to creaking. This middle-of-the road feeling continues with its underwhelming processor, average camera, and lack of any stand-out software that really marks the Lumia 1320 out as unique.

Nokia’s Lumia 1320 is an all-round decent smartphone, especially when its sub-£300 price tag is taken into consideration. But we found it difficult to get too excited about the handset. While affordable, the handset’s low-resolution screen and average camera means users are unlikely to opt for the Lumia 1320 when they can buy a Nexus 5, for example, with top-end specs for the same low price and many more applications on offer. However, for businesses in the Microsoft eco-system, this could be a valid option for a low-cost smartphone.

If you're a fan of Windows Phone and want a large screen, you have a choice between the Lumia 1320 and the more compelling 1520 which costs twice as much. If you're primarily a fan of Windows Phone, the 1320 is the best bet in its price range, but you could also consider the more pocketable Lumia 925, which has a far better camera and costs roughly Rs. 6,000 more. However, this phone doesn't compare too favourably to its Android-based competition, most notably the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, which costs almost exactly the same amount. The Grand 2 benefits from the strength of the Google Play app store, and Nokia can't balance that out with its camera expertise at this price level, like it did with the Lumia 1520.

The Nokia Lumia 1320’s the best value big-screened Windows Phone around, no question - and unless you really need a top notch camera, it’s better value for money than the 1520 too. But it’s not the best best value smartphone around, not when Google’s 4G-infused Nexus 5 goes for the same amount on contract, packs a sharper screen and many, many more apps. So long as Nokia’s Lumia line sticks to Windows Phone, that’s sadly always going to be the case - fingers crossed that might change quite soon.

At a retail price of Rs 24,000, the Lumia 1320 is simply too expensive to consider. The highlight feature is of course the battery life and the fact that you can now install pretty much any app without a problem. But apart from this, there’s little else going in its favour to warrant such a hefty premium when compared to phones like the Lumia 625 and Lumia 720. We would still love to see a ‘Lumia 725′ with 1GB RAM, which will undoubtedly be a much better buy than the 625 and 1320 put together. To sum up, the Lumia 1320 would make a good smartphone at Rs 16,000, if you’re into ‘phablets’.

In the end, while size matters, it's also what you do with it that really counts, and we're not sure Windows Phone yet does enough to warrant phablet-scale for every user. Although some groups will find enough to love about the Lumia 1320's screen, Microsoft needs to do a little more to refine its OS to deliver on its half of the bargain. That will undoubtedly come in time, but for now we'd be more tempted by one of Nokia's smaller Lumia devices, particularly those with PureView cameras.

While ‘i’ devices battle it out for supremacy with Android there is another player in the field and that is Microsoft with Nokia to mention but one. This the a rather nice Windows phone here sent courtesy of Vodafone in the UK. A good service and a nice size phone from a company now controlled by Microsoft.

Taking on the role of Microsoft’s flagship smartphone offering is the task currently assigned to the Lumia 930 as it battles for market share against the dominant forces of the iPhone and numerous Android handsets. The Johnny-come-lately will certainly have a fight on its hands and there well could be tears before bedtime or maybe there is room for three heavyweight contenders within this particular market.

With every generation of Nokia 9 series, we see the best in class four-to-five incher that the company can come up with, and just like previous 900′s, the Lumia 930 is right now the best Nokia you can have without owning a 6 inch phone. But if we had to choose, we’d say to go for Nokia’s 6 inch 1520, because with practically identical technology under the hood AND the ability to expand on the storage plus better battery life, it beats the 930 hands down.

We liked the Lumia Icon a lot, and we like the Lumia 930 even more. It doesn’t make any drastic improvements to key elements – the screen, camera, performance are all the same – but the inclusion of a wireless charger and Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box make it a better buy. It doesn’t have as much raw power as top iOS and Android phones, nor access to their wealth of apps, but it’s the best Windows Phone yet.

The biggest draw to the Nokia Lumia 930 (from £412 SIM-free) is that it offers the best Windows Phone experience – Windows Phone 8.1 in this case. But is Microsoft losing the war against Apple and Google? Perhaps from a consumer’s point of view, but certainly not in terms of business.

The Nokia Lumia 930 is undoubtedly one of Nokia's top offerings, which is particularly significant considering the message it sends. The Nokia spirit still lives after the Microsoft acquisition. The Lumia 930 isn't in the best position, being the first flagship following the transition, but what's more significant is that even at its best, a Lumia flagship stops just short of matching its Android peers. The WP8.1 update is certainly a step in the right direction, but one question still looms: what if Nokia had gone with Android?

The Lumia 930 is a step in the right direction with its semi-metal design and decent hardware line-up. We like the screen and camera but it's lacking additional features and doesn't have expandable storage. Windows Phone 8.1 vastly improves things on the software side but the platform is still not a priority for developers – especially when it comes to third-party hardware.

Featuring Nokia's stellar ClearBlack screen and PureView camera technologies, a distinctive-yet-robust design and all the inherent enterprise perks of Windows Phone 8.1, the Nokia Lumia 930 is a great smartphone. Were it not for the Lumia 930's less-than-stellar battery life, the handset would be the second Lumia smartphone to achieve V3's hallowed five-star rating.

The Nokia Lumia 930 is a really great device that's hampered by a few too many elements, preventing me from lauding it as a truly standout handset. The main reason is still the same one I've been yammering about for a couple of years, and I'll say it again: Windows Phone is still not up the level of the rest of the competition, and that hampers any big gains made in hardware. Before anyone jumps straight to the comments to decry me as a fanboi of whichever other system, let me say this: I really like Windows Phone. In theory.

If you're a Windows Phone devotee, the Nokia Lumia 930 is easy to recommend. It's not a perfect phone, but it's definitely the best Windows Phone currently on sale. It's very fast and runs the latest version of Windows Phone 8, which adds some nice extra features. For everyone else, while it's an very accomplished phone, we're not totally convinced this is the phone that will convert people to Windows Phone. That's mainly down to the chunky design and underwhelming battery life, though the lack of HDR for the camera is another irritating aberration for a top-end phone.

The Lumia 930 is big, bold and has touches of brilliance. As much as it wows, though, there's still work to be done to truly set it apart from the competition. This is one that will divide the crowd, but is a device that can't be ignored for its positives and its aspirations. Whether it can be so highly praised in two months' time from now is another matter, but right now this is the best Windows Phone device that money can buy.

As if in recognition of this, the Lumia 930 comes with a decent two-week launch offer of a dinky Bluetooth speaker, a wireless charging plate and a £20 app voucher. Even after that, every 930 sold in the UK will include a wireless charging plate. So if you’re already in the Windows Phone world, it may be worth waiting until later in the year to see what Nokia-soft has up its sleeve. That said, the Lumia 930 isn't a bad device by any means. It has superb build quality and its corporate-friendly features could see it sell in decent numbers. You wouldn't grumble if you were assigned one.

If you're tempted by the prospect of owning a Windows Phone, then chances are you'll like the Nokia Lumia 930. It boasts a great, 5-inch, full-HD display; excellent camera; a host of useful Nokia apps; and an attractive, albeit bulky design. Just keep in mind that this phone isn't available directly from a U.S. carrier (at least not yet), and its battery life is slightly below average.

The Lumia 930 combine good size with the most comprehensive Windows Phone software to-date. We can't fault the hardware, with Nokia delivering a superb display and good camera. Battery life doesn't match devices like the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2, but few do. But if your business is tied into Microsoft's legacy apps, this is one of the best devices available.

If it’s Windows Phone you want, rather than a truly outstanding camera phone like the Lumia 1020, the Nokia Lumia 930 is the one you want: it’s a truly cutting edge piece of hardware only let down by Windows Phone 8.1’s limitations and lack of critical mass. That said, there are some seriously sexy Android alternatives this year, and Google’s operating system still has a major app advantage. Unless the Lumia 930 drops in price, and quickly, we’d go for the turbo-charged LG G3 every time, but this is a close second.

The Nokia Lumia 930 may not have the staying power of other Lumia devices, but for those who want the best Windows Phone 8.1 experience in a normal-sized handset, there's simply no competition. It doesn't come cheap, as contracts start from £33-per-month, but we wouldn't expect any less for a top of the range handset. With a fantastic screen, lightning fast performance and a great camera, the Lumia 930 is the greatest Windows phone yet.

Our first impressions of the Lumia 930 are positive - it’s a stunningly well-built handset and the small bezel means the 5-inch display doesn’t feel over the top. There’s no word on battery life and while Windows Phone 8.1 now feels like a true rival to Android it’ll be the day-to-day usage that will really show if this is Nokia’s best smartphone yet.

Overall, I think the Lumia 630 is a great little dual SIM phone. Priced at AED 599, it’s a good introduction for anyone looking for a cheap dual SIM smartphone. Windows Phone is maturing well as an OS and has many of the commonly used apps like Whatsapp and Instagram now available for it.

The Nokia Lumia 630 is a fantastic Windows handset. Its superb battery life and additional camera features are far above what we'd normally expect to see from such a cheap phone, and its excellent web performance puts it on equal standing with other top budget Android handsets such as the Motorola Moto G. If you're looking for a cheap Windows handset, the Lumia 630 is for you. However, if you live in a 4G area, you may want to consider the Lumia 630's 4G cousin, the Nokia Lumia 635, which costs just £10 more SIM free. We'll be publishing our review of the Lumia 635 shortly, as despite appearing to be exactly the same in terms of specification, our initial tests revealed some significant differences between the two handsets.

If you're considering the Lumia 630 as a first smartphone and you don't plan to buy lots of wireless accessories and install lots of apps, it's not a bad choice at all. Windows Phone 8.1 is very easy to use, and will improve even more when Cortana and its associated features arrive in the UK. However, the sticky problem of a lack of apps in Microsoft's store remains an issue for all Windows Phone 8 smartphones, and the lack of a front-facing camera is a problem if you want to use Skype.

The Nokia Lumia 630 is something of a mixed bag. It's cheap, cheerful and Nokia succeeds in delivering a bright and well built handset that's ahead of many competitors' plastic offerings. It also gives you the latest Windows Phone 8.1 operating system experience, as well as the latest additions from Lumia Cyan. But we found the software experience can feel a little slow and, with our review device, a little buggy too. There are hardware compromises too, especially in the display, when pitched against rivals such as the Motorola Moto G.

Nokia has skill at making affordable and attractive handsets - the Nokia Lumia 530 was a popular choice and is one of the most purchased Windows Phone handsets ever. This is a worthy successor with cute styling, okay screen and highly effective processor. It has good battery life. But the standout is the software: Windows Phone 8.1 is great and is only going to get better.

The Lumia 630 is limited by the hardware specifications but it remains good value if you can track it down for the sub-£100 price. This seems to be tricky as at present O2 looks like the one place where you can get the device for £99. Other retailers are offering it for £130, so if you're not on O2 we'd recommend the simlar priced Moto G instead.

I can't help but feel that the Lumia 630 was thrown together to be a Windows Phone 8.1 demo device, and then someone decided it was suitable for a retail release. I couldn't disagree more. Forget that Microsoft still has come catching up to do before its mobile OS is considered on par with others; the hardware itself is lacking.

While we love those new sensor core features for GPS-independent exercise tracking, the Lumia 630 is a tough sell with so many other hardware features lacking (or simply absent). If you’re going to go with a budget Windows Phone, we’d recommend going all the way and looking for a $45-$60 Nokia Lumia 520.

Those in the market for a fairly solid mid-range device who have an aversion to Android, this one may suit you. As a Windows Phone, it left us wanting, but that’s just the mid-range game sometimes. Windows Phone begs for better hardware all around, and the Nokia 630 doesn’t deliver. For the market it’s aims at, though, it will likely be a good foot in the door for Microsoft.

The boosted 1830mAh battery is pretty stellar in delivering more than a day’s worth of juice. Our 8-hour loop test ended with about 27 percent of battery to spare. One can easily go up to two days without charging it again, under light to moderate usage.

I'd like to take my hat off to Microsoft and Nokia who have built on the success of the Nokia Lumia 520 brilliantly to design and build yet another respectable budget phone in the Nokia Lumia 630. For a low price it does all the basics and does them well but also offers a decent battery, solid quad-core processor and a whole host of new features in Windows Phone 8.1.

We've been impressed with the iPhone 5C's battery life. Unless you hammer the device with contant gaming or video playback, it will last a couple of days with regular and varied use. The phone holds its charge incredibly well when not in use - our sample sat on just one percent for a number of hours. We like the Lumia 630, and it is great value. But we'll be sticking with the iPhone 5c and its better camera, battery life and build.

The 630 is easy to get along with. Yes it’s a bit slow and nothing about this Nokia screams ‘game-changer’. It’s just a nice phone for the money. It looks fun, comes with some excellent Nokia and Microsoft freebies and the OS is friendlier at first glance than KitKat, Google’s latest smartphone software. Right now though, affordable Androids (still) make more sense. And by affordable Androids, we (still) mean the brilliant Moto G. It’s selling for around the £100 mark and is worth every penny. And more.

What the Lumia 630 lacks the average user won't miss: no NFC, no fingerprint reader and no heart-rate monitor. It's a combination of good-enough hardware and an increasingly elegant operating system at a low price which will make it an attractive package for many. As such, phones like the Lumia 630 are throwing down a challenge to the smartphone flagships; give us useful and usable innovation and not just empty novelty, or we'll make do with handsets like this.

The newer version of Windows Phone makes it a more functional option, tying in nicely if you have Windows 8 or 8.1 on your PC. There’s less futzing around on a Lumia than with an Android, but obviously less customisation or choice – you can replace everything, including the dialer and SMS app, on an Android. You can replace everything but the all-seeing-eye of Sauron Google. So Windows Phone is no longer as distinctive as it was, but if forgoing a wider app choice doesn’t bother you, and a robust basic modern smartphone is all you need, Lumia ticks the box.

Nokia and Microsoft have crafted a well-rounded budget phone with the Lumia 630, that not only looks the business, but performs extremely well thanks to the excellent Windows Phone 8.1. You'd be forgiven to think that the phone costs around Rs 15,000. The screen isn't very sharp, but does a good job at producing colours. The step down to 512MB RAM and the absence of a flash are inconvenient, not dealbreakers, but customers who choose Android phones in the same price band won't have to make similar compromises. Moreover, there are also far better phones such as the Moto G which cost only very little more. The single-SIM version is priced at Rs. 10,500 and Microsoft quotes a price of Rs.11,500 for the dual-SIM one. It competes head-to-head with an established behemoth - the Moto G. Also, joining the fray soon is the Moto E. The budget segment is heating up and the consumers are only glad.

For such a low-cost 4G device, the Nokia Lumia 635 performs admirably, especially when you consider the free upgrade to Windows 10. Unfortunately, the battery life does let the team down a little, but if you’re used to charging your phone a couple of times a day, then you probably won’t notice this niggle.

The Nokia Lumia 635 is one of the cheaper 4G phones, and the cheapest 4G Windows Phone we’ve reviewed. However, as we said of the Lumia 630, it doesn’t feel anywhere near as competitive as the Lumia 520 and Lumia 620 did when they were released back in 2013.

Call quality was also clear as I made several calls around San Francisco using T-Mobile’s network, and I experienced fairly good data speeds. Based on Ookla’s Speedtest app, I averaged download speeds of 9.47 megabits per second and upload speeds of 7.95 Mbps. When my colleague Walt Mossberg tested the 3G-only Moto E, he struggled to get download speeds of even 2 Mbps, though this was over AT&T’s network, and in different cities (New York and Washington, D.C.).

No, you don't get a front camera or flash on the back, but the $168 Nokia Lumia 635 is a solid choice for the price. This Windows Phone delivers smooth performance, long battery life and a surprisingly lovely display. The 5-MP camera isn't great, but Nokia's suite of camera apps helps make the best of it.

So it’s a very basic phone that meets almost all the requirements of a modern smartphone user (reminder: NO front-facing camera). But the 625′s 4G capabilities and its low price make it something more than just another satisfactory phone. They make it a good buy.

Overall, the Lumia 635 is an odd mix of hardware cutbacks for affordability with some premium software features thrown in. It's rather strange that the Lumia 635, which has a single camera and only a moderately good display and processor, is the first to offer Windows Phone 8.1 and the perks that come with it, such as Office software, Here Drive+ navigation and a Cortana digital assistant that is sophisticated enough to create reminders by tracking information inside of emails. Maybe the phone doesn't know if it wants to be a kid or a grown-up.

But there are a few major caveats. That lack of a front-facing camera will be a deal breaker for many. To get a decent front-facing camera and LTE in a current phone on T-Mobile, you need to make a big price jump up to the excellent Moto G for $219. You'll lose the expandable memory, but you'll gain the more mainstream world of Android apps.

I wonder, though, how many Lumia 635s will be returned when consumers discover the lack of a front-facing camera. That’s a real blow to the platform, especially when you factor in the lack of first-party apps in the Windows Store. Phones like the Lumia 1020, Lumia Icon, and Lumia 1520 have given Lumia owners something to brag about. Phones like the Lumia 635 will straddle the narrow line between value and mediocrity.

Nokia - or Microsoft, as the future would have it - has another winner on their hands on the low end. If the same distribution is used as the Nokia Lumia 520 and Nokia Lumia 521, I see no reason why the Nokia Lumia 635 shouldn’t have similar success.

The Nokia Lumia 635 is nigh-on identical to the Nokia Lumia 630, only with the addition of 4G connectivity. But the resultant bump up in price carries things in the wrong direction. All of a sudden, comparisons to similarly priced Android phones become less flattering, and a case for buying the Lumia 635 becomes tougher to make. The Lumia 635 remains a decent all-round phone, though, with a level of build quality that outshines anything else at this price point and a fresh new Windows Phone 8.1 OS.

The Nokia Lumia 635 is a great value 4G Windows phone, but its shorter battery life than its 3G counterpart may be a bit of a deal-breaker for those hoping to get all the benefits of the Lumia 630 with faster data speeds. The Nokia Lumia 635 is a slight update to an already well-rounded budget blower that brings 4G powers to the table and a slicker, glossy body too. Even though Windows 8.1 packs in many features we've been craving for ages, it's still playing catch-up with the big boys of the phone world. But if you're after a basic, no-nonsense phone that ditches the bells and whistles for a speedy 4G connection, iPhone 5c-style styling and a solid OS, the Lumia 635 could be the budget handset you've been waiting for - and you can bet it'll get even cheaper with network branding too.

The Nokia Lumia 530 is one of the last few phones that the company itself has made, and its solid build quality is clear evidence of that fact. It's not the flashiest, speediest or greatest phone around, but for around £80, it's cheap as chips and if you're a Windows Phone fan, it's not terrible. The Motorola Moto E offers plenty more bang for your buck at the same price range though, making Nokia's bright effort a wasted opportunity. Let's see if Microsoft has better budget blowers planned for the future.

Deciding here comes down to simplicity versus flexibility. The One Touch phones run Android, which has a much broader range of third-party applications than the 530 can support. But Android has a slightly messier, slightly more complex UI than the extremely simple Windows Phone, and the Evolve's voice call quality wasn't as good in our tests as the Lumia 530's. That makes the Lumia 530 a better bet for casual users without a lot of coin.

It’s not the nicest phone in the world, but it’s not meant to be. It’s meant to allow you access to apps, texting and phone calls, the internet, and acceptably photos and video. With a 5-megapixel camera at its back and no camera up front, you’re working with the basics. Is it worth the cash you pay for it? Yes, it really is. But remember - this is the sort of phone that you buy because you’re saving up for a far, far nicer phone.

If Nokia had just improved the 520 specs across the board then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this, but it has actually taken two steps forward and one step back with the 530. These compromises are all about delivering the lowest price possible and the 530 is astoundingly cheap, but the budget bracket has grown a lot more competitive in the last year.

When shopping for a Windows phone there are some obvious caveats you need to be aware of. While the Windows Store has improved a lot from its previous iterations, it still lacks the variety and quality you’ll find in the Android and iOS app stores. Even the user interface is not as refined, which might come as a surprise if you are an Android or iOS user. However, there are benefits of owning a Windows phone too, some of which outshine what Android and iOS devices currently provide. For starters, you get the full Microsoft Office suite free of cost, a free music streamer that lets you download songs for offline use, and Maps that allows you to download maps to use offline.

The Nokia Lumia 530 is a good phone for under £90, but now that the Lumia 630's SIM-free price has come down to roughly £110, we think that choosing the Lumia 530 over its big brother is a bit of a false economy. While it's very similar to the Lumia 630, we'd rather pay the extra £20 for a better screen and a longer battery life. If Nokia lowered the Lumia 530's price in the future, we might bump it up a star, but for now the Lumia 630 remains our budget Windows phone of choice.

The sub-£100 price of the Nokia Lumia 530 makes it difficult to ignore, but the performance makes it difficult to fully recommend. Priced as it is, the Lumia 530 is one of the cheapest smartphones around and it has plenty to offer. If you're looking for something to keep you in touch, plus some apps and connectivity thrown in too, then it may be well suited. The Nokia Lumia 530 is a phone that saddens us. Last year, Nokia re-established itself as a great force in budget phones with mobiles like the Lumia 520 and Lumia 620. The Nokia Lumia 530 cuts out every little extra, streamlines every feature to save money. But it does so to too great a degree, offering a worse experience than either its now-cheaper predecessor or the many Android alternatives.

At the moment the Lumia 530 Dual SIM is available for around Rs. 6,500 at many e-commerce outlets. The price is low for a phone that can provide a decent smartphone experience, but unfortunately the Moto E, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S and the Asus Zenfone 4 all provide better smartphone experiences at the same price. Buy this phone only if you want a really cheap device running Windows Phone 8.1. The Lumia 630 and the Lumia 520 have seen price drops and are also available for less than Rs. 10,000. Those two older devices are better options if you don't mind spending only a little bit more.

With its insanely appealing price, and excellent performance, the Lumia makes an attractive option in the sub-£50 smartphone market. The 530 will undercut almost everything else on the market. For the money, it's also excellent value, but represents a relative downgrade for Lumia 520 owners, who get a much better screen, more storage and a better camera.

Choosing between the Nokia Lumia 530 and Motorola Moto E is difficult. I'm a seasoned Android user, but I like what I see in Windows Phone 8.1. And without that tired old Windows Phone lacks apps argument (the Motorola Moto E doesn't have enough built-in storage to take full advantage of what Google Play and third-party developers have to offer), there is nothing that you might expect of a budget smartphone that either Windows Phone or Android are unable to do. In many respects these two phones are very evenly matched. The Motorola Moto E stands out for its display, while the Nokia Lumia 530 is the winner on the storage front. And the Lumia 530 absolutely wins on the pricing - you cannot argue at £60.

If you’re shopping for a new smartphone, all these ups and downs beget some major questions. Does the 830’s low(ish) cost justify its many compromises? How many of its shortcomings actually impair the user experience? Should you consider jumping to the 830 from another smartphone? Wouldn’t it be better just to spring for the 930 instead? What would possess a company to put a USB charging port at the top of a phone? These questions and more (mostly) answered below, in our Lumia 830 review video!

While a very decent Windows Phone device, the Nokia Lumia 830 has a steep hill to climb against midrange Androids with its current price bordering on 300 USD or EUR. Windows Phone 8.1 is now a better mobile OS, and the Lumia 830 is promised for a Windows 10 update, too. We certainly can't complain about the out-of-the-box software that comes with the handset, but the ecosystem still lacks in terms of app count, so if you are coming from an Android handset, or an iPhone, some applications you know and love might not be there.

The Lumia experience has continued to improve but it still hasn't made the breakthrough it needs. Indeed Microsoft may be wondering what it has to do to make that breakthrough - in which case an obvious flagship and an absolute focus on app store quality are key. As Microsoft says goodbye to the Nokia branding and forges ahead with Lumia, it is working from a solid base, but there's still work to do.

If you are a Windows Phone user and wish to switch to a modern, affordable flagship smartphone that does it all, you can’t go too wrong with the Nokia Lumia 830. It has a great display, decent battery life and fantastic camera. The 10MP PureView camera comes with a great set of manual controls and editing features, which makes it a perfect choice for photo enthusiasts looking for a mid-range smartphone. It’s definitely not the fastest phone in its league, but it works well for moderate uses.

It is also let down heavily by a poor design and equally poor operating system, with neither living up the quality of the Android powered HTC One Mini 2 and Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. With the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact also coming in at a similar price bracket, I really struggle to see how the Lumia 830 will compete.

Nokia and Microsoft Devices — whatever it’s now called — can sure make things a little difficult to work out. With its current Lumia line-up, you can either go with the 930 which is a great phone with an ordinary battery life and no expandable storage, or you can pick the 830 — this phone — which is an ordinary phone with great battery life and storage that can be expanded.

But back to the review at hand. Yes, the Nokia Lumia 830 is the affordable flagship Microsoft is pitching it as. It's got top-notch specs in every key aspect of the phone and comes with a competitive mid-range price. We get a solid build with metal frame plus a curved protective screen glass and a matte finish on the back. There is the 5" IPS display of excellent quality, enhanced with ClearBlack tech as well. The Snapdragon 400 chipset runs buttery smooth on that 720p resolution, too. And, of course, let's not forget the 10MP PureView camera with ZEISS optics and optical image stabilization.

As I’ve noted elsewhere, I usually carry two phones: a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and one of several Windows Phones, swapping SIMs back and forth as needed. The Android ecosystem seems obsessed with specs, dissecting screen size, display resolution, memory, and CPU speeds to determine the best solution. Move to a Windows Phone, though, and those distinctions just don't seem that relevant. As the benchmarks showed, the Lumia 830 is a substantial step down on paper. But in real-world testing, the differences weren't that noticeable.

The Lumia 830 is the most stylish handset in its class. Made of premium materials, this phone is build to last. For Rs 26,300, it offers a stunning camera and fluid smartphone experience. On the other hand, the 830 is not for the specs junkies. This phone won't impress you with the processor score or ppi number, but will win you over with its unique features and real life usefulness (if given a chance).

In the end, the Lumia 830 is clearly a "bridge" device. It's got the high-end looks and capable camera of flagship-level phones, along with the performance and display resolution of mid-range and budget models. Whether Microsoft Mobile made the right trade-offs really depends on what you want out of your smartphone.

The Lumia 830 is a camera lover's dream smartphone. We would even go as far as to say that it negates the need to invest in a digital camera. Calling this smartphone an 'affordable flagship' might actually be okay considering its camera performance and price of Rs. 28,799. For those who argue that the Moto G (Gen 2) [Review | Pictures] has similar specs and is priced much lower than this phone should understand that the Lumia 830's camera performance is miles ahead and its build quality simply cannot be matched by Motorola's budget champion. If you are someone who is platform agnostic then the newly launched Moto X (Gen 2) [Review | Pictures] might be considered an alternative.

The Microsoft Nokia Lumia 830 is a very pretty handset. The build can't be faulted for its premium quality and while the processor and camera might lack a little power for some, that's why the price is where it is positioned. That's the Lumia 830's issue really: there are so many arguments to spend the extra £100 and grab the Lumia 930 instead. As Nokia's swan song the Lumia 830 is a solid performance but one without crescendo.

It all comes down to the camera, really. If you value the superior low-light performance the optical image stabilization affords, it’s a very good option. Few phones can match it at this price in that particular department, and as we saw it trades blows with the iPhone 6 Plus here, too. It’s stylish, good value and takes great photos in low light, but the Lumia 830 up against some stiff competition. You won’t find a better low light camera at this price, but you will find better all-round phones.

The Nokia Lumia 830 is caught between a rock and a hard place. At around £320 unlocked, it’s pricier than both the new Moto G and the Google Nexus 5, with a similar sized screen to both and fewer apps. Then on the other side, you've also got the choice of more powerful flagship Windows Phones and Android blowers, not to mention the iPhone 6 for not that much more. Its major saving grace is the excellent camera strapped in, but if that's not a concern to you, you can get a whole lot more for less on Android, and you won't be stuck with Windows Phone's lack of apps.

Nokia’s Lumia 830 may be a stripped-back version of the flagship Lumia 930 smartphone, but the sacrifices aren’t all that great considering the cost savings. Sure, there’s no 1080p screen, but the 720p display is perfectly sharp and beautifully vibrant still. Yes, the 20-megapixel camera has been reduced to a 10-megapixel snapper, but it’s still just as dependable for your everyday shots. And the basic Snapdragon 400 processor copes well with everything you throw its way, for now at least.

Great for selfies. Microsoft's Lumia 735 is a good middle-class smartphone with decent cameras on both sides and a comprehensive set of features. The bold colors, which are common for the Lumia-series, make quite a statement as well.

We all thought that the Microsoft Lumia 640 would be the posterchild for the affordable segment of the Windows Phone camp, especially when its presence was in full force during Mobile World Congress 2015. After checking out the Microsoft Lumia 735, however, we have a change in heart because this feels more like a fitting candidate. Aesthetically, we adore the classic Lumia styling, as it features removable rear casings that are available in an assortment of color ranges – conjuring up an upbeat, cool design.

Verizon’s last Lumia smartphone was the Lumia Icon which was released in February of 2014, almost a year and a half ago. The Lumia 735 is not exactly a worthy replacement, but it’s better than nothing. Honestly, the Lumia Icon could still best many of the other phones in Verizon’s lineup today, especially with the Denim update it recieved in February of 2015. Even if you’ve got an older Lumia 928 on Verizon, the Lumia 735 would mostly be a downgrade for you. Unfortunately, Microsoft has been concentrating on releasing budget friendly smartphones these days, so we’re not seeing anything spectacular here.

There's a slight bump in the road coming for the Lumia 735, with the newly Microsoft-rebranded Lumia 640 and 640 XL going on sale in the UK. While the Lumia 640 is only around £40 cheaper at around £130 and including significantly cheaper components, the 640 XL might pique some buyers' interests. The 640 XL is significantly larger than the Lumia 735 at 5.7in and while you don't get any extra pixels and therefore a much lower pixel density of 259ppi, its £186 retail price makes it one of the cheapest supersized smartphones on the market.

For the most part, Nokia’s Lumia 735 is a decent little mid-ranger that performs quite well and offers the megapixels for someone who really loves a selfie or two. The battery life is one of those things totally worth noting, too, with two days no problem for the average user, and a solid day for the power user. If selfies and battery life is what you’re after, we’d take a look at what this phone has to offer, if anything just because it’s also likely the last “Nokia” branded phone you’re likely to see.

The first question is easy. The Nokia Lumia 735 is a fairly decent phone that does well in many areas. The Lumia 735 is well designed, the materials used make the handset feel great in the hand and look nice as well. It doesn't venture far from the standard Lumia design, and as far as I'm concerned that's a good thing because not every mid-range device is tough, dependable and also reasonably stylish. Ideally this handset would be a little slimmer and more compact, but it is what it is.

Sitting alongside its Lumia 830 stablemate in terms of power, the Nokia Lumia 735 mixes things up in the camera department, making a case for the presence of these two similar devices. Camera performance from both front and back snappers is good, even if the Lumia Selfie app is currently flawed.

The selfie is one of the biggest trends and phenomenons of the last 12 months and the Lumia 735 is aimed at those sharing their daily outfit and best pout. The phone is one of the mid-range Lumia smartphones and costs £189 which is almost budget.

Microsoft is doing well to shake things up in the Lumia lineup. A couple of devices shown at IFA in September have hit the shelves and, the software boost courtesy of Lumia Denim aside, the lineup is being updated in the right place. The upgrades are even slightly overdue perhaps - busy adding a tablet and a couple of phablets to the lineup, along with dual-SIM support and cheap screen real estate, Nokia and Microsoft somehow overlooked the midrange.

We don't need to tell you that the HTC Desire Eye is the better phone in this comparison. Of course it is. After all, it's nearly twice the price of the Lumia 735. In its screen, in its hardware, in its storage, in fact in every category the HTC beats the Nokia. But while the HTC clearly has the better selfie camera tech, you could argue that Nokia's selfie software is easier to use without going too far and, given the lower price, we reckon it'll be more appealing to its target market. Both phones, though, will help you take a much better selfie.

The Nokia Lumia 735 is solid Windows Phone-powered blower, but you don't get a ton of bang for your buck. With a price-tag hovering around £189, it doesn't offer that much value compared to the current king of budget smartphones, Motorola's latest Moto G. Its selfie-orientated front-facing camera is great, but it's certainly not a must have, and you might just find yourself wishing you had more apps to play with.

Nokia might be pitching the Lumia 735 at the selfie fan, but in doing so it misses a potentially larger market. Well-built with lots of app extras, an operating system which is become more user friendly and flexible, and higher-end features like wireless charging, 4G and NFC to its name, the Lumia 735 is, for this reviewer, the best of the lower cost Lumia range. Indeed, it's a pretty good sub-£200 buy across the board.

We don't need to tell you that the HTC Desire Eye is the better phone in this comparison. Of course it is. After all, while we might not know the exact UK pricing, we expect the Desire Eye to be around double the price of the Nokia Lumia 735. In its screen, in its hardware, in its storage, in fact in every category the HTC beats the Nokia - except one: selfies. While the HTC has the better selfie camera tech, we think the Nokia has the better selfie software and, given the lower price, we reckon it'll be more appealing to its target market.

The most fun Nokia on the market, the Lumia 735 really is an ideal smartphone for selfies. At just £189 we can picture many a teenage girl - and boy - adding this great-value Windows Phone to their Christmas list. Given the low- to mid-range price its performance is sufficient, and we appreciate the extras such as microSD support, Qi wireless charging and 4G LTE. We just hope the Lumia Denim update fires up that camera a bit quicker.

There are plenty of good reasons to consider it, particularly at its sub-£200 SIM-free price. It has two good cameras, it looks smart and there lots of things to like about Windows Phone if you spend a little time with it. We prefer it to its most immediate Android alternatives, such as the Sony Xperia M2. A very good phone for sharing photos, but less so for games. But if you don't play games there are few reasons not to buy one.

It’s almost as if billing the Lumia 735 as a ‘selfie phone’ does it a disservice. There’s no denying that it’s one of the most competent devices in the space for this sort of thing, but it can do and offer so much more. For the £220 SIM-free price tag, there’s little that offers the same level of quality across so many areas; screen, imaging, productivity, connectivity and services. It’s not perfect and we’d have liked a sharper camera, a hardware shutter and perhaps better quality audio recording and playback, but for the most part, there’s little that can touch the Nokia Lumia 735 across the board.

Enterprise buyers who've settled on Windows Phone, and who are looking for a good, low cost, and reasonably future-proofed fleet phone should take this very seriously. The Lumia 730 and 735 are now available, the 4G Lumia 735 for £199.95 SIM free at Carphone Warehouse and on contracts under £20, which is very good value. If you see it slip to £150, bite the proverbial hand off.

Microsoft's not the only one with a 'selfie phone' now on the market, but this is a solid enough handset with a reasonable price. It all depends on what you want out of your smartphone; if you're not so face-focused, you're probably better off coughing up a bit more for Microsoft's other 'affordable' phone of IFA, the Lumia 830.

Nokia, now Microsoft Devices, is all about offering a range of devices to suit a wide range of people, but with a strong focus on the mid- to lower-range of smartphone users. Acknowledging it still has a lot of work to do to create a high-end device people want in the same way they do a new HTC or Apple iPhone.
