I liked this phone. The Dash Charging is awesome. It charges the battery quickly and is the best I’ve used with fast charging. I thought the overall performance was good and the phone really is a decent work horse. Getting hold of it is a different story though. If you want to purchase it cash you can buy it from the distributor direct for R11 970 else you can only get it on contract via FNB connect. That’s annoying, I wish more providers would make it available.

One Plus 5 is an excellent device in all aspects although the price is little expensive. Its great camera, brilliant performance, and stylish design combine to make it the best buy. Those users must go for this device who are looking for flagship device rather than the famous brand’s smartphones.

In actual real world usage, the OnePlus 5 has proven to be a very stellar companion, lasting through every day and on most days, lasting until the end of the next day. This is with an average of 4.5 to 6 hours’ screen on time and although phone calls in particular do drain the battery somewhat, the OnePlus 5 battery certainly does a pretty good job at keeping the handset powered all day. It’s not quite the 2+ day battery life that we’ve all been yearning for, but the OnePlus 5 definitely comes close.

The OnePlus 5 is OnePlus’ most expensive smartphone yet. It’s still more affordable than other premium-tier phones in the market, of course, but for a company that built its reputation on offering flagship smartphones at an affordable price point, it has to prove that the OnePlus 5 is worth its higher asking price; higher price tag means meeting higher expectations.

This is easily the best OnePlus flagship to date, and that's before we even factor in that the firm has clearly gone away, carefully considered the feedback on its past camera and battery attempts, and has seriously put in the work to make massive leaps forward.

In certain shooting situations the OnePlus 5 shows some limitations in terms of pixel-level image quality but overall the camera captures good exposures with wide dynamic range and pleasant colors. In video mode we were especially impressed by the excellent stabilization and thanks to a premium look and feel, powerful processing, and ample memory the OnePlus is a great device in general use.

Even though at £449/$479 the OnePlus 5 is the most expensive entry in the series yet, it still is undeniably one of the biggest bargains in tech. Considering varieties of the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8 can cost up to £400 more, it really does feel like OnePlus is onto another winner.

On the other hand, if you opt for the 8GB/128GB version for AED 2099, that puts the OnePlus 5 in close range of the Samsung Galaxy S8 which might have a lesser amount of RAM and storage space but has a better design and features such as the Infinity Display, Always-On screen, Wireless Charging and a Dual Pixel camera which takes incredibly good pictures. This makes it difficult for me to recommend the OnePlus 5 to the general user- even though I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing it. However, if you’re more on an enthusiast or a fan of previous OnePlus phones, the OnePlus 5 will definitely please you.

OnePlus 5 almost got everything right – the device comes across as a decent flagship offering in spite of its flaws. It’s sufficient on the hardware front, thanks to its current-gen flagship processor. Okay, there is the Xiaomi Mi 6 for RM1899, but we haven't really tested it so we can't say for sure about that. But one thing for sure is that this is called a "flagship killer" for a good reason, if you compare to the iPhone 7 Plus which is RM3699, the OnePlus 5 is obviously a better alternative since both have that similar telephoto lens. It's also much more affordable than the Samsung Galaxy S8 which goes for RM3299 (now RM2595, but still if you don't like the Infinity Display, the OnePlus 5 is definitely more preferable). Granted, the Huawei P10 is currently going for RM1939 from RM2499 but this is more of for those who prefer a dedicated monochrome sensor.

The OnePlus 5 battery may be smaller than its predecessor, but the Chinese company has managed to make improvements on the battery front, with its latest flagship lasting on average 21% longer than the OnePlus 3T. Compared to the competition, the OnePlus 5 lasts on average 45% longer than both the LG G6 and Pixel XL, and 22% longer than the Galaxy S8, although it’s worth noting that all of these three devices have a much higher density display (and in the case of the Galaxy S8, a ~9% smaller battery).

However, for £450, you're not going to find another smartphone with similar performance, nor with a battery life that will make it into a second day with some juice left in the tank. OnePlus has become serious about the smartphone world with the ‘5’ – shipping in larger numbers, with bigger support resources thrown behind it, with OTA updates arriving almost daily (at the moment, at least), plus it’s hard not to be impressed by the sheer power and capacity on offer here. Part of getting serious also means ramping up the price a little, but the OnePlus 5 still offers better value for money than almost any other phone out there in terms of bang per buck.

While the OnePlus 5 isn’t quite perfect, it does offer a competitive flagship experience for less cash than the competition. Killer performance, slick software, dependable photo quality and plenty of extra smarts make for a great handset, as well as impressive value for money.

A very good buy for the price. Camera is excellent, hardware hardly heats up and overall performance is impressive. If you are planning to get the OnePlus 5 go ahead. If you can wait for few more days as one more handset will be announced in July and that might turn out to be a good competitor to OnePlus 5 if priced right.

One of the most well-known stories of the Bible is that featuring David and Goliath. David is a shepherd while Goliath is a giant of a man, a mighty warrior. And yet, David slays him, armed with nothing but a slingshot. The moral of the story: an underdog who uses his resources cleverly can defeat a much more powerful enemy, who does not do so. Now, since 2014, OnePlus has been playing the role of the smaller but more agile and clever David, taking on the Goliaths of the smartphone world (read Apple, Samsung, HTC, et al., this). The script has almost always been the same: we are smaller, so we do not have the resources of the big guys, but hey, because we are smaller, we can move faster and innovate faster and can offer you something that is very good at a remarkably lower price.

The OnePlus 5 is arguably the best Android phone you can buy. There are better phones out there, but then this is way more affordable than a Google Pixel XL or a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus making it a far better proposition for the buyer. OnePlus has again shown that a flagship phone does not really need to be priced at the higher end. It has also shown that you don’t really need a big gimmicky feature to make a flagship appealing, just doing everything well will do. The OnePlus 5 is sure to extend the company’s domination in the mid-rung for at least a few more months.

To wrap up, the OnePlus 5 has barged into the over Rs 30,000 territory which is dominated by brands such as Apple and Samsung. Will it succeed only time will tell. However, we were quite disappointed with the design of the device, especially, for the company that believes to “never settle” and still it bit that piece of “Apple”, which most of the brands have tasted. If you are looking to buy this smartphone for dual camera setup Honor 8 and iPhone 7Plus can be considered.

OnePlus 5 surely pushes the benchmarks of an upper-mid range smartphone a notch up. It has all the latest specifications under the hood. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 8GB RAM and dual rear camera lives up to the company's 'Never Settle' tagline and could be a money spinner for the Chinese upstart.

OnePlus' focus for the OnePlus 5 seems to be refining a winning formula rather than slaying flagships. It's still a great smartphone for the price, but if you were hoping for refinements and features that Samsung and Apple offer today in their flagships, then you might be disappointed.

With just about the same amount of RAM as a competent gaming PC, and a cutting-edge SoC, the OnePlus 5’s performance lives up to what it promises on paper. If you can get over the fact that it looks like an iPhone 7 Plus and may even see a OnePlus 5T refresh later in the year, you have a compelling piece of hardware.

The OnePlus 5 is exactly what a OnePlus fan expects; fast, well made, almost runs on stock android and is well priced. It is also an attractive option for anyone looking to buy a premium Android smartphone that doesn't compromise on the basics. However, it does fall a little short of the 'flagship killer' tag that it once wore.

OnePlus as a company is now at a stage where it must demonstrate the kind of innovation it can bring to the table. A race to the bottom in terms of price is not something that it can sustain because it is all too easy for other brands to catch up. With the OnePlus 5, the company has started making headway towards the premium end of smartphones and is very vocal in admitting where it’s ambitions lie.

The best way to sum up the OnePlus 5 is that it's got the balance spot on. The £449 or £459 price tags are reasonable for the technology you're getting and OnePlus has stripped out the extra stuff that would push this phone up into the £600+ bracket currently occupied by the likes of Apple and Samsung.

At $539 for the 128GB model and $479 for the 64GB model, the OnePlus 5 is the company's most costly phone yet. But then, in many aspects, you're getting many of the same features you find in phones that cost $200 to $300 more. The OnePlus 5 has the latest Snapdragon 835 processor with plenty of RAM, sharp cameras with optical zoom, and excellent battery life. But there are some caveats. Screen resolution is fine, but not up to par with the competition, there's no waterproofing or expandable storage, and the modem is capped to Cat 12 speeds.

The most expensive OnePlus phone so far - a statement that doesn't say much in a year when most makers seem keen on hiking prices. The OnePlus 5 is by no means a budget phone, but it's still mighty good value for your money.

There are several solid improvements in the OnePlus 5 worth mentioning, but the most standout aspect of the phone is its value. Just like the models preceding it, the OnePlus 5 gives you a near-flagship experience for $150-250 less than the competition. It does so by walking the line between putting money into the aspects that matter, while keeping costs low in other areas without making the phone feel cheap or substantially lacking.

The OnePlus 5 is a prime example of a focused device executed to perfection. The phone's processing power is as good as it gets, its no-frills aluminum body is refreshing in an increasingly glass-obsessed category, and its battery life is one of the best we've ever seen. You even get two versions, at $479 and $539, to best match the kind of performance you need.

I do wonder how long this can work for OnePlus. Every phone is good now, even much cheaper models. Nobody needs the latest and greatest in Snapdragon power, or a million gigs of RAM—at least until AI and VR make specs matter again. OnePlus found success by diligently avoiding bloatware and pointless customization, but other companies do this now, too. Meanwhile, buyers have shown they’re willing to spend more to get the phone they want. That means you’ll continue getting better phones at better prices. And as the pace of competition continues to accelerate, OnePlus and everyone else will have to get better, faster.

Is it perfect? No. But building a phone like this is always an exercise in compromise, and the balance that OnePlus struck among form, functionality and price is incredible. Whether this means OnePlus becomes a household name remains to be seen. For now though, it's, clear that anyone looking for a high-powered smartphone should have the OnePlus 5 on her shortlist.
