I liked this phone. The Dash Charging is awesome. It charges the battery quickly and is the best I’ve used with fast charging. I thought the overall performance was good and the phone really is a decent work horse. Getting hold of it is a different story though. If you want to purchase it cash you can buy it from the distributor direct for R11 970 else you can only get it on contract via FNB connect. That’s annoying, I wish more providers would make it available.

At a similar price point you’ve got the Honor 8 Pro – a great phone, but one that lacks some of the more high-end features here – and then the upcoming Moto Z2 Play which again lacks flagship components but will likely have a better battery life.

In actual real world usage, the OnePlus 5 has proven to be a very stellar companion, lasting through every day and on most days, lasting until the end of the next day. This is with an average of 4.5 to 6 hours’ screen on time and although phone calls in particular do drain the battery somewhat, the OnePlus 5 battery certainly does a pretty good job at keeping the handset powered all day. It’s not quite the 2+ day battery life that we’ve all been yearning for, but the OnePlus 5 definitely comes close.

The OnePlus 5 is OnePlus’ most expensive smartphone yet. It’s still more affordable than other premium-tier phones in the market, of course, but for a company that built its reputation on offering flagship smartphones at an affordable price point, it has to prove that the OnePlus 5 is worth its higher asking price; higher price tag means meeting higher expectations.

In certain shooting situations the OnePlus 5 shows some limitations in terms of pixel-level image quality but overall the camera captures good exposures with wide dynamic range and pleasant colors. In video mode we were especially impressed by the excellent stabilization and thanks to a premium look and feel, powerful processing, and ample memory the OnePlus is a great device in general use.

Even though at £449/$479 the OnePlus 5 is the most expensive entry in the series yet, it still is undeniably one of the biggest bargains in tech. Considering varieties of the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8 can cost up to £400 more, it really does feel like OnePlus is onto another winner.

On the other hand, if you opt for the 8GB/128GB version for AED 2099, that puts the OnePlus 5 in close range of the Samsung Galaxy S8 which might have a lesser amount of RAM and storage space but has a better design and features such as the Infinity Display, Always-On screen, Wireless Charging and a Dual Pixel camera which takes incredibly good pictures. This makes it difficult for me to recommend the OnePlus 5 to the general user- even though I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing it. However, if you’re more on an enthusiast or a fan of previous OnePlus phones, the OnePlus 5 will definitely please you.

OnePlus 5 almost got everything right – the device comes across as a decent flagship offering in spite of its flaws. It’s sufficient on the hardware front, thanks to its current-gen flagship processor. Other noteworthy features include its flagship-worthy UI, a great looking display (albeit only Full HD res), a battery life that’s second only to the Galaxy S8, up-to-date Bluetooth 5 support, generous RAM (in both storage variants), and swift embedded storage technology.

Okay, there is the Xiaomi Mi 6 for RM1899, but we haven't really tested it so we can't say for sure about that. But one thing for sure is that this is called a "flagship killer" for a good reason, if you compare to the iPhone 7 Plus which is RM3699, the OnePlus 5 is obviously a better alternative since both have that similar telephoto lens. It's also much more affordable than the Samsung Galaxy S8 which goes for RM3299 (now RM2595, but still if you don't like the Infinity Display, the OnePlus 5 is definitely more preferable). Granted, the Huawei P10 is currently going for RM1939 from RM2499 but this is more of for those who prefer a dedicated monochrome sensor.

That said, for people who prefer a Gold variant, OnePlus 5 Soft Gold is now available. OnePlus 5 is great at what it is, yet pricing seems not convincing. If you own a previous generation OnePlus, it would be a wise decision to keep it unless you are too keen on it. As said earlier, OnePlus 5 is more of an evolution rather than revolution. Now when you just look at premium phones like the Galaxy S8, Pixel XL and LG G6, the OnePlus 5 still presents excellent value. It’s a sub-$500 phone, it provides great hardware and great software. But the price increase, pushing it now up to $480, makes it more expensive than the Xiaomi Mi 6: a phone that also packs flagship hardware and a dual camera solution with only so-so software.

The OnePlus 5 is a very impressive phone. It's got a sleek, premium design, a great dual camera setup, and it's unbelievably fast. It's also got something which no other Android manufacturer has, and that's a certain street cred.

The OnePlus 5 battery may be smaller than its predecessor, but the Chinese company has managed to make improvements on the battery front, with its latest flagship lasting on average 21% longer than the OnePlus 3T. Compared to the competition, the OnePlus 5 lasts on average 45% longer than both the LG G6 and Pixel XL, and 22% longer than the Galaxy S8, although it’s worth noting that all of these three devices have a much higher density display (and in the case of the Galaxy S8, a ~9% smaller battery).

Chinese company OnePlus has announced last month its latest flagship smartphone that sports high-end specs like the powerful Snapdragon 835 CPU, up to 8GB RAM, up to 128GB storage, and dual rear cameras. What we have on hand is the top of the line 8GB/128GB model. Will this prove to be worthy of being called 2017’s flagship killer?

All in all, the OnePlus 5 still retains its reputation as a potent flagship killer. And yes, there will be people who will say that the new phone is quite a bit more than the previous devices in OnePlus’ lineup, but honestly you’ll be hard pressed to find a device that offers more value for your money than the OnePlus 5. There are a few compromises here and there, but on the whole the OnePlus 5 is one of the best phones you can buy if you’re looking for a beastly device and don’t have a lot of cash to drop.

However, for £450, you're not going to find another smartphone with similar performance, nor with a battery life that will make it into a second day with some juice left in the tank. And, although its design is arguably modeled on the Apple iPhone, it's still one of the most premium-looking 'mid-range' phones on the market.

It has a thin and sexy body with a premium build, vibrant display, has a speaker that delivers loud audio, shoots detailed photos, runs UFS 2.1 for faster read and write speeds, has an impressive battery life, LTE with support for Cat. 12, and is a very capable performer thanks to its beefy internals.

So, do we have ourselves a back-to-back Phone of the Year? Sadly, nope, not even close. While I don’t think the OnePlus 5 is a step back by any means, the camera is enough to make me give this phone a hard pass. OnePlus has done a great job with hardware, software, and Dash Charge, but man, this camera kills the entire experience for me. It’s a real shame, considering how much time they spent on stage to hype it up.

I’m very happy with this initial experience. The mission of a company like OnePlus is to balance competitive pricing, while compromising as little as possible. Reviewing the more expensive model, we’re treated to performance which exceeds our expectations, and with a retail price some $200 less than a Galaxy S8. You really do feel like most of your money is going towards what’s inside the phone.

The OnePlus 5 is undoubtedly worth the cash it’ll cost the average user here in the United States. I’m not thrilled with the idea that OnePlus is gradually moving their business away from the “shockingly-good value” market to the “decent value” market, but if they can manage to do it, more power to them. OnePlus has become serious about the smartphone world with the ‘5’ – shipping in larger numbers, with bigger support resources thrown behind it, with OTA updates arriving almost daily (at the moment, at least), plus it’s hard not to be impressed by the sheer power and capacity on offer here. Part of getting serious also means ramping up the price a little, but the OnePlus 5 still offers better value for money than almost any other phone out there in terms of bang per buck.

A very good buy for the price. Camera is excellent, hardware hardly heats up and overall performance is impressive. If you are planning to get the OnePlus 5 go ahead. If you can wait for few more days as one more handset will be announced in July and that might turn out to be a good competitor to OnePlus 5 if priced right.

The OnePlus 5 is a phone for anyone who wants a fast, capable and versatile phone with clean software and some unique features without spending Rs 50,000 on a Google Pixel. It's an unbeatable value for money phone. It's just that it's not the perfect phone. No phone is.

While the OnePlus 5 isn’t quite perfect, it does offer a competitive flagship experience for less cash than the competition. Killer performance, slick software, dependable photo quality and plenty of extra smarts make for a great handset, as well as impressive value for money.

One of the most well-known stories of the Bible is that featuring David and Goliath. David is a shepherd while Goliath is a giant of a man, a mighty warrior. And yet, David slays him, armed with nothing but a slingshot. The moral of the story: an underdog who uses his resources cleverly can defeat a much more powerful enemy, who does not do so. Now, since 2014, OnePlus has been playing the role of the smaller but more agile and clever David, taking on the Goliaths of the smartphone world (read Apple, Samsung, HTC, et al., this). The script has almost always been the same: we are smaller, so we do not have the resources of the big guys, but hey, because we are smaller, we can move faster and innovate faster and can offer you something that is very good at a remarkably lower price.

The OnePlus 5 is arguably the best Android phone you can buy. There are better phones out there, but then this is way more affordable than a Google Pixel XL or a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus making it a far better proposition for the buyer. OnePlus has again shown that a flagship phone does not really need to be priced at the higher end. It has also shown that you don’t really need a big gimmicky feature to make a flagship appealing, just doing everything well will do. The OnePlus 5 is sure to extend the company’s domination in the mid-rung for at least a few more months.

To wrap up, the OnePlus 5 has barged into the over Rs 30,000 territory which is dominated by brands such as Apple and Samsung. Will it succeed only time will tell. However, we were quite disappointed with the design of the device, especially, for the company that believes to “never settle” and still it bit that piece of “Apple”, which most of the brands have tasted. If you are looking to buy this smartphone for dual camera setup Honor 8 and iPhone 7Plus can be considered.

OnePlus 5 surely pushes the benchmarks of an upper-mid range smartphone a notch up. It has all the latest specifications under the hood. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 8GB RAM and dual rear camera lives up to the company's 'Never Settle' tagline and could be a money spinner for the Chinese upstart.

The OnePlus 5 is exactly what a OnePlus fan expects; fast, well made, almost runs on stock android and is well priced. OnePlus as a company is now at a stage where it must demonstrate the kind of innovation it can bring to the table. A race to the bottom in terms of price is not something that it can sustain because it is all too easy for other brands to catch up. With the OnePlus 5, the company has started making headway towards the premium end of smartphones and is very vocal in admitting where it’s ambitions lie.

At $539 for the 128GB model and $479 for the 64GB model, the OnePlus 5 is the company's most costly phone yet. But then, in many aspects, you're getting many of the same features you find in phones that cost $200 to $300 more. The OnePlus 5 has the latest Snapdragon 835 processor with plenty of RAM, sharp cameras with optical zoom, and excellent battery life. But there are some caveats. Screen resolution is fine, but not up to par with the competition, there's no waterproofing or expandable storage, and the modem is capped to Cat 12 speeds.

There are several solid improvements in the OnePlus 5 worth mentioning, but the most standout aspect of the phone is its value. Just like the models preceding it, the OnePlus 5 gives you a near-flagship experience for $150-250 less than the competition. It does so by walking the line between putting money into the aspects that matter, while keeping costs low in other areas without making the phone feel cheap or substantially lacking.

I do wonder how long this can work for OnePlus. Every phone is good now, even much cheaper models. Nobody needs the latest and greatest in Snapdragon power, or a million gigs of RAM—at least until AI and VR make specs matter again. OnePlus found success by diligently avoiding bloatware and pointless customization, but other companies do this now, too. Meanwhile, buyers have shown they’re willing to spend more to get the phone they want. That means you’ll continue getting better phones at better prices. And as the pace of competition continues to accelerate, OnePlus and everyone else will have to get better, faster.

It is back! Only a few months after its predecessor was released, OnePlus has now presented its newest smartphone. The OnePlus 5T comes in the modern 2:1 format and has improved cameras. But are there enough changes for it to be a convincing update?
Update: OxygenOS 5.1 (Android 8.1) released.

The Oneplus 5t has been thought and designed and a best-value handset from the get go, and such it is a great success. Premium phone designs are notoriously difficult because they must suffer being compared to much more expensive handsets.

I been using the OnePlus 5T for quite awhile and I have grown to use it and love it. For its fair price point you getting close to the latest tech inside, swift updates really only comparable to Google and a decent camera. Even though it has been recently pulled off the shelves if you can get your hands on one I recommend it if you don’t want to bring the bank on the high end flagships.

For someone who wants a really fast, clean Android phone, the OnePlus 5T is still a very impressive device considering its asking price. I’d happily use one as my daily driver if camera quality wasn’t such a big factor for me. If it’s not a big factor for you, though, I don’t think it gets much better than the 5T.

If you like the idea of a premium case that's not too garish, then this might be a preferable option to the Rosewood edition - the only negative is that the dark wood shows up marks even worse, so you'll want to be relatively careful with how you handle it.

Well, yeah. I definitely think so. The original OnePlus 5 was already an excellent smartphone. It performed phenomenally every day, making it one of the fastest phones I’ve used in 2017. The handset also featured the best camera on any OnePlus device coupled with one of the best built bodies on any OnePlus handset.

One strange omission that keeps affecting OnePlus phones is that there isn’t the correct DRM to allow streaming of Netflix, Google Play Movies or Amazon Prime in HD. Instead, it caps you at SD and sometimes forces you manually alter the resolution in YouTube. It’s a really strange missing feature that I haven’t seen on any other phone and considering this big screen is perfect for watching videos it’s even more annoying you can’t watch it in HD.

So after exploring all of the pros and cons, in the end, the team thinks the OnePlus 5T is still a pretty good phone but it may not be a justified upgrade from the OnePlus 5. Granted, it has powerful specifications, the big 6.01-inch display is great for entertainment and reading, but the camera part is a bit of a let down, given that its cameras fail to capture a better portrait mode compared with its predecessor. It's just fine if you haven't bought the OnePlus 5 though.

Priced at ₹37,999 ($597), the limited-edition smartphone is only available in India (along with China where it was first unveiled a couple of months back). The price is same as the OnePlus 5T, so there’s no premium on the red color variant – except the limited availability of course.

As a last note, the phone does suffer from a major roadblock that might not seem obvious at first. Like many unlocked phones on sale in the US it’s only compatible with GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile, so Sprint and Verizon subscribers will have to look somewhere else for an affordable flagship.

OnePlus 5T is relatively an inexpensive smartphone that performs exceptionally great in all aspects and competes with the expensive flagships. Although OnePlus 5T is a high-end device, it’s far from perfect, it lacks water resistance (IP68), wireless charging, a Quad HD display, and Oreo out-of-the-box. Despite all these, the OnePlus 5T is still one of the best smartphones available and it’s highly recommended.

It almost seems like déjà vu, but three years ago, I dubbed the OnePlus One as the year's top flagship device. Since that time, a lot has changed. The company is no longer a media darling leveraging itself as an underdog and has since done its best to mature. While it still makes mistakes here and there, it has managed to adhere to its core belief of listening to its community, while building a device that is both affordable and competitive.

Preliminary conclusion: The OnePlus 5T is probably what the OnePlus 5 should have been. It has made a lot better here and above all the camera seems at first glance a change from the OnePlus 3 (T), even the 5, to be worth. But we ask ourselves: Why not immediately? If you had brought the OnePlus 5T directly to the market, OnePlus could have saved a lot of criticism. Although we would not continue to call the OnePlus 5T cheap, the price is now much more justified than before. The OnePlus 5 already had the same chip, battery, and internal storage as a $900 phone, with more RAM, and an arguably better OS. Yes, its camera's quality still lags behind what you'll get from the Pixel 2 XL, Note 8, and other premium phones, but its $500 price tag can't be ignored—it's a far better bargain than $480 for the OnePlus 5.

However, as much as we're impressed by its low cost, The OnePlus 5T is not a surefire winner that can topple the greats in the high-end space right now – more so if you're willing to spend the extra money on getting a comparably spec'd smartphone without the compromises. Phones like the Google Pixel 2 XL, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and LG V30 will cost you a whole lot more to pick up, but they do offer a lot more in terms of features over the OnePlus 5T. If you're able to overlook some of its deficiencies, however, namely its underwhelming camera performance, lack of wireless charging and absence of water resistance, the OnePlus 5T would be an excellent choice.

Overall, the 5T is a healthy addition to the OnePlus family. It takes what we already loved about the OnePlus 5 and refines the design and software a bit, while maintaining a similar sub-$500 price point. The 6-inch 18:9 display really does make for a richer experience, and for those looking to get a premium Android device on a budget, the 5T may just be the phone to beat, even if its new camera promise doesn’t quite pan out.

It’s almost impossible to find things to complain about on the 5T – it’s the result of four years of design iteration and paying attention to the community by OnePlus – and it shows. Official waterproofing and stereo speakers would have been the icing on the cake, but most people will be happy to take these hits in exchange for a sub-£500, 2:1-displayed Snapdragon 835 flagship.

The OnePlus 5T does lack a few things. It is not a flagship killer and will not be unless it gets a camera that is in the league of what Pixel or iPhone packs in. It also lacks a truly waterproof body. But what it lacks doesn't matter because it costs less than half of its most serious competitors. So, let me repeat again: The OnePlus 5T is the best phone for most people. May be you want absolutely best camera or the best that money can buy. The Pixel 2 XL and the iPhone X are your friends in that case. But maybe you want the best phone without dropping one half a lakh rupees on it. The OnePlus 5T is what you will need to get.

Ever since OnePlus took the wraps off the 5T, we have been besieged by queries not just about how good the device is but also how much (or indeed if at all) it is better than its predecessor, the OnePlus 5. That worthy, if you remember, came with a very good spec sheet and a very promising pair of cameras, even though it was affected to an extent by some rather buggy software, which OnePlus to its credit has been fixing through a regular (almost too regular) flow of updates. So we decided to let the two devices talk it out among themselves to get a better perspective. What follows is a fictional but totally fact-based exchange of views between two phones that were divided by just a T:

I would say this is again among the best Android phones you can buy at the moment. In fact, there is good value for the buyers here as this phone packs much more than the earlier version but still costs the same. So you are not paying extra for the edge-to-edge screen, facial recognition or the better camera. Yes, those who bought the OnePlus 5 recently might feel a bit shortchanged, but that is how life is. Go ahead and buy the OnePlus 5T if it fits your budget and requirements.

The OnePlus 5T is a slightly great phone. In today’s world of superb mobile cameras, no phone can be truly great without having a great camera on board, and I don’t think the 5T has one of those. But pretty much everything else about this phone lives up to the aspiration of premium, flagship-tier quality. The 5T is a $499 phone doing admirable battle with devices sometimes twice its price. For anyone whose budget extends no further than this phone, I give it an enthusiastic thumbs up.

The OnePlus 5T isn’t a surprise, both in its existence and the fact it’s very similar to the OnePlus 5. It stands as a reminder that 2017 was the year every company quickly produced a phone with an 18:9 display to make sure its bezels didn’t look outdated on the store shelf.

The OnePlus 5T isn't an industry-leading phone with the latest features that other companies will have to scramble to match. But it's still an exceptional value in an Android market that's getting surprisingly expensive at the top-end. The OnePlus 5T is a wonderful phone at $499, or even at $559 for the higher-spec model. At that price you can look past a couple hardware shortcomings and less-than-stellar cameras, because you just saved $200, $300 or even $400 off of leading phones from the "big name" companies while getting what is mostly the same — or in a couple cases, a better — daily experience.

The OnePlus 5T is marginally better than the OnePlus 5, that is if you don't desperately need the older model's optical zoom capabilities. You get a more modern, more appealing phone at exactly the same price, so of course the 5T is the better pick. For the most part, we agree that the low-light sensor is more useful than a telephoto lens, but we did miss the ability to frame some shots better. In any case, there's no question of choosing between the two models since OnePlus has replaced the 5 outright and most variants are already out of stock.

A superb display in a trendy aspect ratio, excellent battery life, and fluid Android experience - is that enough to make up for an unimpressive camera performance and the lack of a few key flagship features? That would have been an easy answer if big-name phones hadn't gotten so expensive this year. If one of the pillars of a great smartphone collapses, the whole thing goes to pieces, right? Wrong - the OP5T has the price to prop it up. Value for money is the game, and OnePlus knows how to play it, and it's going strong with the 5T.

The OnePlus 5T is now your best alternative to your stock Android craving, which not only performs well but now has the looks as well. The phone also offers a good camera, is well built and the battery is as reliable as it was on the OnePlus 5. It can be called as a relatively affordable and no nonsense option for anyone looking for a flagship phone. There are no real weak areas and that makes it a very balanced and dependable choice. If only it shipped with Android Oreo with added water and dust resistance, it would have been a more enticing package.

The OnePlus 5T will appeal to all those planning to spend up to Rs 35,000. The smartphone comes with a starting price tag of Rs 32,999 and offers all the essential and high-end specifications that one is looking for. It has a bezel-less display, face unlock feature and a better camera for low light photography. However, if you are still looking for alternatives then you can consider buying the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, which comes at a similar price tag and also offers a bezel-less display.

Other than the screen, the one big difference between the new OnePlus flagship and its predecessor is the fact that the secondary rear camera is now dedicated to low-light performance. You now get one 16-megapixel sensor and one 20-megapixel sensor on the rear, both with f/1.7 aperture lenses and the same 27.22mm focal length. In low light, the camera app will automatically switch to the secondary rear camera in an attempt to improve the output. With two cameras, the obligatory portrait mode is also supported. It's half past five on OnePlus time and the 5T has just been unveiled, the interim upgrade that repacks the OnePlus 5 to make it more enticing for the holiday shoppers. T is to the OnePlus what S is to the iPhone, which means the OnePlus 5T isn't a complete overhaul. It's mostly the same phone on the inside, but there are bigger changes on the outside this time.
