As flagship phones keep getting more expensive, OnePlus sticks to what it does well. The OnePlus 6T's hardware quality, specs, software and performance all matches phones that cost hundreds of dollars more. And the places where it comes up short are merely marginal differences or non-critical features. This phone offers incredible value: a flagship-like experience for a fraction of the cost.

The OnePlus 6T is a better phone than the OnePlus 6, but not by enough I wager to warrant OnePlus 6 owners to consider the upgrade essential. For all other users it's a fast, well-equipped Android phone that sits at the top of the mid-range market. But with the entry-level phone market offering competitive experiences that retail for half the price, and the premium level pulling away rapidly in terms of high-end features, it feels like a very safe play.

With the latest internal hardware and a stunning new design, the OnePlus 8 Pro has it all. You get a 120Hz AMOLED panel, robust cameras, 30W wired and wireless charging, IP68 water resistance, and a clean software without any bloatware with the promise of timely updates. The OnePlus 8 Pro is the obvious choice if you are looking to switch to a flagship.

If you have a OnePlus 6 there isn't a huge change, but from every other previous model, this is going to feel like a massive leap forward. Because - despite its more premium price point - OnePlus is still knocking it out of the park. The question remains that has been posed by the company since its first year: why pay more?

In 2019, the OnePlus 6T is an old phone which would normally get discontinued now the 7 series is here. That's not the case and those in the US will have to opt for it if the 7 Pro is too expensive. In the UK and elsewhere, it's worth getting the OnePlus 7 which comes in at the same price - in fact, even cheaper since the entry-level 6T is no longer available - but with various upgrades. If you happen to find the 6T somewhere else at a bargain price then it's still an excellent phone with decent design and specs. Just bear in mind that it doesn't have things like waterproofing or a headphone jack.

First, the performance and its speed. It matches or outdoes every other Android device out there in that, although with the newer competitors the difference is barely noticeable. Second, the 6T has a unique mish-mash of features, ranging from some very high-end specs to some that are better described as upper-midrange, and these are all put together in a package that is very affordable by today's standards of flagship smartphone pricing. This would make the phone incredibly attractive once it gets its due price cut upon the release of the OnePlus 7, which by the way will be revealed in less than 2 weeks. Oh, decisions, decisions, decisions.

You won't find a better smartphone for this price. Other companies are making ultra-pricey flagships with an emphasis on artificial intelligence that just can't compete with the iPhones and Galaxies on the market (ahem, LG and HTC). There is now a glut of overpriced smartphones that don't differentiate themselves in any meaningful way.

If you are looking to get 99.5% of a top flagship device for 50% of the price, well the OnePlus 6T is the phone for you. Admittedly, with a full glass design I expected wireless charging to be present, but it is difficult to find any other faults with this phone. It has solid battery life and the cutting edge under display fingerprint reader. But I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I don’t think I will be buying the OnePlus 6T. My reason for this is that there just isn’t enough of an upgrade for me and my use case scenario with my OnePlus 5T. If OnePlus keeps up to their current release schedule, the OnePlus 7 should arrive in Q2 of 2019 and I think I’m going to hold out till then.

OnePlus continues to stand out by offering reliable performance in good-looking packages. The friendly price tags help a lot, too, obviously. But I'd be hesitant to call the 6T a clear improvement on its almost perfect predecessor. While the dewdrop notch is personally my favorite all-screen execution at the moment (more so than the punch-hole alternatives), I don't share the same excitement for this sluggish fingerprint reader. Had this been responsive, I would have been more forgiving on the removal of the headphone jack.

If you’re considering the OnePlus 6, 6T or Honor View 20 over other flagship devices, it’s really a no brainer. The amount of money you’d save over a Pixel 3, Samsung Galaxy S9 or pretty much any other device more than justifies the minor features you’d be giving up. If it were me, I’d go with the OnePlus 6, but the 6T would be a close second.

Even with the omission of the headphone jack, and still utilizing a 1080p display, the OnePlus 6T is arguably one of if not the best smartphone of the year(2018). If you get the most tricked out McLaren model at $699 u still under the bubble of the biggest flagships by at least $200-300 bucks and that’s just those companies base model prices. This brand continues to give the competition a run for its money giving you performance feats where others tend to falter.

The gradual upward trend in OnePlus' pricing makes its phones a little less attractive than they used to be, but the 6T still offers good value. Having said that, if you miss the days when OnePlus phones were less than S$700, the OnePlus 6 in its 8GB/128GB configuration is now available in all colors for just S$699 from OnePlus' official shop on Lazada. Considering how similar the two phones are, this is actually the better buy - at least until the 6T also inevitably comes down in price.

We're hopeful that OnePlus will continue to work on the OnePlus 6 and 6T's camera performance as well, and considering the company's excellent track record with Android updates, this could be a reality sooner than later. If you are looking for a flagship level smartphone, the OnePlus 6T is clearly a winner in its own. There is no need to upgrade if you already own a OnePlus 6 unless you want the fancy in-display fingerprint scanner, smaller notch, and a bigger battery. If you can live without the 3.5 mm audio jack, go with the OnePlus 6T, note that you won’t get these features on the phone – wireless charging, microSD card support, and the water-resistant IP rating. Sure, waterdrop notches are now in fashion, and the in-screen fingerprint sensor is great for showing off, but neither of them necessarily represent any improvement over the functionality, usability, or power of the OnePlus 6. The OnePlus 6T is good at what it does, but it isn't a clear-cut upgrade — not that one was even needed. If the OnePlus 6 continued to be available, we would likely recommend it over the newer model.

Like we already mentioned, the heyday of OnePlus as the underdog disrupting the market and growing big on viral marketing seems to be officially over now. Frankly, this comes as no surprise, since the earlier model was inherently unsustainable and we have been observing the slow transition to a more mature market presence for a few generations now. It took the arrival of the OnePlus 6T, however, to officially finalize the transition in our mind.

OnePlus has stayed true to its focus on simple, effective, sturdy design, clean software and high-end performance, all the while building a phone that costs a lot less than the big-name flagships of the world.

It may be a tweak of the last model, but this is the best way to avoid spending £800 or more on a phone.

Indeed, the OnePlus 6T sees OnePlus enter a whole new zone, one where the competition is rather different and is fighting on being premium rather than value for money. It still offers staggeringly good value for money in terms of design, hardware and one of the most uncluttered software experiences on a flagship device this side of the Pixel brigade. The OnePlus 6T makes a good case for itself but OnePlus faces a formidable challenge: of being able to settle in a higher price bracket, with competitions who have a track record of always having been there. The brand believes in Never Settling, but we do think it might want to make an exception in this case.

If you don’t own a OnePlus 6 but you want to join the OnePlus family, the decision between the OnePlus 6 and 6T is a difficult trade-off. If you absolutely want a headphone jack and like flatter designs better, get the OnePlus 6. It is still one of my favorite Android phones of all time, and I love how it looks and feels in my hand.

I may miss the headphone jack, but between its excellent software, fast internals, incredible battery life and capable camera, there's a lot of value to be had with the 6T.

The OnePlus 6T is the best OnePlus phone yet along with the now-defunct OnePlus 6. It's the first OnePlus phone without a headphone jack, but it is also the one with the best battery life, speaker, display and cameras.

The 6T delivers an iterative update, but it does have a few new features on offer. The in-display fingerprint sensor presents a novel new way to unlock the phone, and the waterdrop notch is a welcome change. OxygenOS continues to be one of the best third-party skins around, and when it comes to performance, few phones come close to the OnePlus 6T.
