The Alienware m18 is their first gen 18” beast of a gaming laptop for 2023. It’s available with your choice of Intel or AMD Ryzen high end 45 watt processors and NVIDIA RTX high wattage GPUs (4060 through 4090) or an AMD Radeon RX 7900M GPU. Cooling is handled by 4 fans, a vapor chamber and an liquid metal hybrid paste on CPU and GPU. The gaming laptop offers 2 display resolution options both with 16:10 aspect ratios, G-Sync, FreeSync and Advanced Optimus. It competes with the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 and 18 as well as the MSI Raider and Titan.

The Blade 18 lets you personalize your build from the get-go, enjoy the latest high-end visuals on a huge and gorgeous 18-inch 16:10 display, and gives you the option to upgrade parts of your rig down the track. Yet, regardless the pros, one big factor is hard to overlook. Despite its high-end hardware, our performance results show it to be a little under cooked for the price being asked, which is $4,499.99. Consequently, if you have the money to shell out for the model with the zippier Intel i9-13980HX processor, you’re likely to get more bang for buck from that. Otherwise, you should probably look around for a better deal.

The Razer Blade 18 made me a fan of 18-inch gaming laptops. The Blade’s 18-inch QHD 240Hz display is an eyeball-caressing beast that you can devour games and media content on for days on end if you remember to stay plugged in. With mighty specs and a gorgeous all-metal matte black design that gives it the vibe and curb appeal of a matte black Bentley SUV, this is the powerful, luxurious gaming laptop of my dreams. Still, dreams are expensive, and you must take on a money-making hobby to afford it or have wealthy friends that owe you. All teasing aside, the Razer Blade 18 is the most bussin, badass, beautiful beastly gaming laptop out here, and I will fight you for it, or maybe we can go halfsies and share it.

We can’t fault the performance or design of the Blade 16, as it squeezes top-of-the-range hardware into a compact and streamlined design. The build quality is also impeccable, and everything about the Blade just feels good as you lay your hands - and eyes - upon it. It’s very expensive, though, and while the dual-mode Mini-LED display is genuinely innovative, many people - both gamers and professional users alike - may well consider it to be something of an expensive luxury. If you plan on using the Blade with an external display, the less expensive QHD display might well prove to be the more cost-effective option.

The Razer Blade 18 is a strong argument for the existence of 18-inch gaming laptops, offering enough screen real estate and raw power to make the latest PC games look great. However, its poor battery life and sheer size make it ill-suited for gaming on the go.

You’ll find few more powerful laptops than the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 on the market right now. It packs in the power and does an excellent job cooling it for sustained performance. While the laptop costs a lot, its prices are reasonable compared with its competition, like the Razer Blade 16 and MSI Titan GT77, which have higher starting prices and cost more for similar configurations, though these two machines feature more premium materials and designs. Those who want the most power they can get their hands on today will still want to go with desktop computers, as the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 performs more in line with a top-spec desktop running last-gen hardware. But, for a powerful blend of extreme performance, moderate portability, and efficiency, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 provides a surprisingly compelling value.
