Pure Android at a fair price. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is the European version of the Mi 5X. Equipped with LTE band 20 and Android One, for a low price, it offers not only regular and timely security updates but also a two-year update warranty on the security patches.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is not just a smartphone that turns the market upside down. It is also a pest. Do you pay $220 for a phone that does almost everything well, or do you pay more than 2.5 times as much for a smartphone that also has a great camera? In any case, the budget-conscious buyer cannot ignore the Xiaomi Mi A1.

We’re fascinated by Xiaomi, which has quickly carved out a niche as the Apple of Android: it takes a similarly stripped-back approach to Cupertino’s finest, offering phones that don’t faff around. The Mi A1 is a great example of that. It’s a revamped Mi 5X and looks and feels fantastic. There are a couple of wrong notes – no NFC means no mobile payments, and the screen is disappointing – but it’s still an awful lot of phone for not a lot of money. The A1 is great value for money, delivering an uncluttered Android in a phone that punches way above its price tag.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 offers stock Android and a dual-camera setup for under £200, making its minor omissions easier to stomach. This is the phone with which the Android One initiative should have launched.

There's no denying that the Mi A1 is a really affordable smartphone at RM1099, by that factor alone it can easily beat out several mid-range smartphones that are priced higher, so it's definitely a value for money device considering that it has pure stock Android, good battery life and surprisingly good gaming performance. However, the camera's overall performance is a bit underwhelming, but the bokeh effect is still good.

While Xiaomi continues to face stiff competition in the competitive S$500-800 price bracket, it is still the king of the sub-S$500 tier. Right now nothing even comes close to what you're getting with the Mi A1 thanks to its combination of premium design, good display and audio, wide-angle and telephoto dual camera setup and pure Android OS. While there are other pure Android smartphones on the market, none offer this level of hardware and design sophistication at this low of a price.

We're big fans of Xiaomi phones, but have been frustrated by MIUI on many an occasion. The Mi A1 and Mi 5X are to all intents and purposes the same phone, except one runs Android One and the other MIUI 8.5. That's huge news: at last we have a Xiaomi phone we can really get onboard with in the UK and Europe.

To sum it all up, Xiaomi’s Mi A1 is a great phone. It doesn’t push the boundaries with design and it doesn’t have top of the line specs, but all of that is cancelled out with its price. It costs a paltry $234, or 15,000 Rupees. A myriad of sins can be forgiven at that price, and so the Mi A1’s shortcomings turn into ignorable bumps on the road. Not that there were many.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is a pretty solid and well-rounded package. The capable innards are housed in a premium metallic chassis that looks great. In the daylight the dual cameras shine, and its portraits alone merit a much higher price.

There is heavy competition in the budget mid-range segment in the Indian smartphone market. However, Xiaomi has managed to hit a home run with the Mi A1. This is particularly impressive since the company’s previous mid-range in the same price band, the Redmi Note 4, was also a winner and has been selling like hot cakes in the country.

Xiaomi's bang for the buck has always been hard to match, but the Europe-bound Mi A1 units appear to have lost some of their price edge compared to the bargains you can find at online vendors. Fair enough, it's a new playground and new rules. If that means sensible after-market support - compared to very limied one - Xiaomi might actually have a case there. We guess we'll know soon. You don't really think the Mi A1 is an accidental arrival, do you?

Mi A1 is not just a Xiaomi device. This is the revival of the Android One project in India. and the world we are told. Of course for many people, the buying point might be the Xiaomi brand name, and not because stock Android is available on this phone. The rear camera though is on point and delivers quite well. The performance of the phone is also up to the mark and the promise of updates is always a good lure.

Xiaomi has given a boost to the Android One programme of Google which was dying a slow death. Mi A1 is the best smartphone of Android One program till date. At Rs 14,999 it has a value for money price tag and performance will not disappoint you. Those people who didn’t like the MIUI interface of Xiaomi will most probably love the implementation of Stock Android. The areas that will disappoint are poor battery life and below par low-light photography.

Xiaomi Mi A1 looks bold, the build is fantastic, plus it guarantees Android software updates. While MIUI has built up its name, Xiaomi users have to play with a new user interface. The camera is impressive in terms of taking portraits, performs well especially in the daylight, not the best in the low-light. For a price of ₹14,999, this is the best phone you can get, Xiaomi Mi A1 highly recommended.

Xiaomi offers a well rounded phone at Rs 14,999 with stock Android to boot. If you are in the market for a Rs 15,000 phone, you will not go wrong with the Xiaomi Mi A1. Of course, you will have to factor in one of its major drawbacks - poor low light photography. But that apart, there is fairly little to complain with the Mi A1. And thankfully, it will not just be available on flash sales which gets over in seconds. Xiaomi has also partnered with a lot of offline retail partners for the Mi A1.

By opting for stock Android, Xiaomi has actually taken away a point that distinguished it from the competition – MIUI. The lines that divide the Mi A1 from other stock Android devices is a thin one indeed. We think the A1 is one of the better options in the sub-Rs 15,000 category but it is by no means an overwhelming favorite like some of its predecessors were. Go for it if you want some serious camera magic without busting your bank account.

When the Android One programme was first launched, it promised a lot but eventually faded away. With Xiaomi, Google has managed to put a fresh face for Android One, but how well the new plan goes is yet to be seen. When it comes to price, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is a firecracker of a package. The metal body and overall finish are superb, while the display and overall performance are good. The inclusion of Android One makes Xiaomi phones so much more easily accessible to UK- and US users - and that's a very good thing, finally allowing those outside its main market territories a taste of what else is out there. A fantastic budget phone, the Mi A2 combines decent build quality with a nice display, good all-round performance and a well-specced trio of cameras. It out-specs and out-performs almost every other phone in our budget smartphone chart. Look out for the Mi A3, however, which should arrive in the UK soon.

That said, the Mi A2 has some stiff competition. The Nokia 7 Plus is a great device that costs only a little more, the Redmi Note 5 Pro delivers on a few of the Mi A2’s shortcomings and there’s a whole host of competitive devices from Honor that equally deserve your attention. The silver lining to all of this is that even if you only have 250 or 300 euros to spend, you have a bevy of really great options.

On the other hand, if you want a very smooth software experience, performance on par with high-end devices, and a better camera, well, unfortunately, you're going to have to shell out more cash. As much as the mid-range space of the mobile world has evolved in the past few years, it's still not on up there with the high-end in these regards. And in a way it makes sense - otherwise. it wouldn't be mid-range. The key takeaway is this: if you want flagship-grade everything, get a flagship (or, ahem, a 'flagship killer'). If not, then the Mi A2 is a very good mid-ranger that could be great for you if you can live with its shortcomings.

Take a great camera, a fast processor, and stock Android at face value, and it's really easy to like the Xiaomi Mi A2 - if you pay no heed to the quickly-dropping battery icon. While 12 or so hours of runtime is not wholly impractical if you're deskbound or if your phone stays in a locker while you work, it does severely limit the A2's appeal for students or sales executives, who are constantly on social media and texting their thumbs off or replying to emails. The 3,010mAh cell is not likely to survive a whole day's worth of class chalet or company off-site work-plan seminar - unless you have a power bank around.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is a phone that punches way above its weight. A few hardware shortfalls and limited availability drop it just short of an automatic recommendation, but this is deeply impressive stuff from Xiaomi.

Overall, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal on a device with pure Android that boasts a similarly capable camera and comes with such a well-rounded hardware package, not to mention the software support that’s on par with the Android flagships out there.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is one of the finest smartphone available on the market right now with pure Android experience. On the other hand, at a price of Rs. 16,999, the compromising factors in Mi A2 equals the positives, which makes a purchasing decision tougher. Lack of important factors including 3.5mm audio jack and MicroSD card slot, not-so-bright display, and a 3000mAh battery makes it fall short.

The Honor Play costs ₹3000 more than the Mi A2, but, in return, you get microSD card slot, 3.5 mm headphone jack, bigger battery, slightly larger screen, and most importantly, Kirin 970 SoC which is a flagship grade chip. Not to forget other features like GPU Turbo, AI Gaming, 4D Gaming and 3D Gaming Sound Effect that could entice a lot of mobile gamers. Besides, the Honor Play would offer better gaming performance than Xiaomi Mi A2, hence, if you are someone who plays games like PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9 a lot, then the Honor Play is the smartphone you should be buying over the Mi A2.

Mi A2 is a really good and probably the best Android One powered smartphone out there for now. It is packed with powerful hardware and really impressive camera both front as well as rear. Would have expected the battery mAh to be at least 4000 but the 3010 does a decent job.

Summing up, Xiaomi Mi A2 is a good alternative if you are looking for a phone with no bloatware and premium design. But you will have to compromise on some areas like 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD slot. Also, the phone hovers above Rs 15,000 mark. If you have budget lower than Rs 15,000 and don’t mind a capable custom ROM like MIUI, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 remains our top recommendation.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is a great mid-range device that can almost match the performance of devices like the Vivo X21 and Nokia 7 Plus, which are more expensive. It’s not a pure performance standout in the mid-range market since that title now belongs to the Honor Play.

I was optimistic the Xiaomi Mi A2 will be one of the most attractive sub-RM1,000 smartphones in Malaysia before this review. After all, it offers great value for money, a fast chipset, excellent software experience, and a capable dual-camera system. Unfortunately, these winning qualities are marred by a few things.

Xiaomi’s second generation Android One Mi A2 has been launched in India featuring Snapdragon 660, dual cameras, stock Android, and a metallic unibody. Xiaomi Mi A2 is the successor to the last year’s Mi A1. The Mi A2 has been upgraded in a few areas like design, cameras, and processor. Here are our hands-on with Xiaomi Mi A2.

Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 in India featuring dual cameras at the back. We took some shots initially with its cameras to see how it performs. Take a look at the shots we shared.

When Xiaomi had released the Mi A1 in 2017, many had hoped it would be a sort of affordable Pixel – a device that delivered good performance had great cameras and was assured Android updates. The A1 was a very good smartphone, but it came up slightly short in the Android department, with a performance that was definitely on the buggy side and with software updates getting a little delayed (sacrilege for an Android One phone). And this is the challenge the Mi A2 faces as well.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 (Review) was an obvious choice for anyone looking for stock Android on a budget. Things however have changed, with HMD Global bringing in Nokia handsets that run pure stock Android as well. The Mi A2 is two steps forward, in cameras and all-round performance, in comparison to the Mi A1. But it takes two steps back in display and battery departments. While in isolation, the Mi A2, is a great package deal, when placed next to its predecessor, it does not shine as bright and that makes all the difference. You can say that the Mi A1 had it all, and it cost even less. The Mi A2, not so much. Also, it comes at a time when a Xiaomi phone like the Redmi Note 5 Pro exists and that phone is quite good too and also more affordable.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is a jack of all trades and master of some. It has a stellar camera and reliable performance, packaged in a robust, functional design. Xiaomi Mi A2 is surely a true upgrade over its first Android One smartphone, the Mi A1. The phone comes with a premium design coupled with some sleek looks and the performance is smooth across various departments. The camera does a good job in good lighting conditions, though it is not that consistent in low lights. The battery is one issue and the not-so-bright might cause a problem for some. However, if you are ready to overlook the cons, then you are getting pure stock Android experience with this one.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 was an incredible value proposition in its market segment, the Mi A2 falls somewhat short. It takes away key features like storage expansion and universal headphone connectivity, plus it misses the mark in crucial areas like display and battery life. Affordable as it may be, it wouldn't be our default choice in the midrange quite like the A1 was.

Xiaomi's new Mi A2 is a midrange Android phone with a 5.99-inch screen in an aluminum unibody design. The screen is an IPS LCD and features a longish 18:9 aspect ratio (2,160 x 1,080-pixel resolution) favored by many recent premium Android phones.

Xiaomi made a big deal about the Mi A2’s improved dual-camera setup during the launch of the phone yesterday, highlighting the re-worked dual cameras as one of the main selling points of the device. On paper, the specs of the two shooters do sound enticing: a primary 12-megapixel shooter for bright environs, and a 20-megapixel camera with pixel binning for low-light work. Both cameras are equipped with a f/1.75 aperture lens, so in theory photos taken with either camera can produce convincing depth-of-field effects on their own without software trickery.

Xiaomi’s strategy of stuffing the best possible hardware in a phone then selling it at near cost to the consumer is one that has managed to propel it to superstardom, earning it millions and millions of fans worldwide. But not everyone is a fan of MIUI, the overlay that comes standard with each Xiaomi phone that comes out of China – some may even say that it’s one of the biggest stumbling block for the company’s hardware in some Western markets like Europe.

Given Xiaomi’s permanent commitment to a five percent profit margin, prices like these are admirable and (seemingly) sustainable. Bringing the reliability and security of a stock Android experience to the mid- and lower mid-range is commendable and Xiaomi looks to have done it again. Budget Android phones don't come better than this. The Mi A2 Lite has a premium design with 19:9 notch display, dual rear cameras and decent performance. Storage is generous, and we like the fact you can bolster the 64GB internal space with microSD cards up to 256GB in capacity without sacrificing dual-SIM support. A great budget buy.

Xiaomi phones can be offputting for users in the UK because of their MIUI interface and lack of support for Google Play, but that is not the case with this Mi A2 Lite. It's running Android One, with full Google services preinstalled, and you don't need to import it from China. It offers excellent value for money and easily surpasses other budget phones at this price point, with a good all round spec that includes a premium design, decent cameras and great performance.

Nevertheless, it’s obvious looking at the photos that the Mi A2 Lite can hold its own against its more expensive brother, at least when shooting outdoors. Indoor shots inside the Toledo Cathedral show the limits of the camera sensor, which doesn’t have the same low-light prowess of the Mi A2 thanks to its 20-megapixel secondary camera with Pixel binning.

In a price-sensitive market like ours, I reckon Xiaomi’s latest Android One devices will catch the attention of many Malaysians. The only thing that’s left is for Xiaomi to launch the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite locally, which will likely happen very soon.

Finally, the Mi A2 Lite also benefits from Android One, which means the most recent Android 8.1 Oreo is available and it's free of bloatware. Once again, we hope this time Xiaomi and Google deliver on the promised timely updates for the next 24 months to come.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 again aims to offer a lot of mid-range features for little money. However, actually we are not only seeing improvements compared to the predecessor. Find out in our test whether the 2019 model is still worth it.

In conclusion, the Redmi A3 emerges as a compelling entry-level smartphone, offering a blend of style, functionality, and affordability that’s hard to overlook in the crowded budget segment. With its glass back, detailed camera module design, and the inclusion of Gorilla Glass 3 protection, Xiaomi has clearly aimed to deliver a device that feels premium in hand without the premium price tag. The device’s design aesthetics, particularly the choice of colors and the glossy finish add to its appeal, making it stand out among its peers. The phone’s display, with its 90Hz refresh rate, ensures a smoother user experience in daily tasks, despite the lower resolution of 720p. This choice, likely made to conserve battery life, does not significantly detract from the device’s overall usability.

Android One is attractive for its timely system and security updates, and less bloated interface. The Mi A3 from Xiaomi has a few tricks up its sleeve to help it impress in this increasingly crowded market, including some of the most advanced cameras we’ve seen on an Android One phone. Performance is also capable for daily use, and the design is much more appealing than you should expect at this price.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 has everything that should be there in a mid-segment smartphone. However, the display resolution it offers for Rs 15,999 (6GB +128 GB) could be a dampener for some. Xiaomi has indeed kept the basics strong in this device. But the phone might miss on a few points (for keen techophiles) in the highly competitive mid-range smartphone segment. We can't blame it, though, can we? That’s the case with most of the phones these days.

And that’s a great shame, to be honest. Everything else aside, I think that if the Mi A3 had a Full HD+ Super AMOLED display, we’d be talking about a seriously good mid-range smartphone. I can’t deny that I’m really disappointed that something with so much potential has fallen short. I mean it’s not too much to expect a mid-range smartphone in 2019 to have a Full HD+ display, right?

With a Php 11,990 price tag, the Mi A3 is more affordable than the Mi A2 at launch and offers more features as well. Aside from a processor bump, you get an AMOLED display, triple rear cameras, a decent (albeit slightly slow) in-display fingerprint scanner, a bigger battery, a microSD card slot, and a headphone jack. While people may criticize the display resolution downgrade on the Mi A3, it is a small compromise to pay for all the features it has to offer at a sub-Php 12k price. The only other phone that can compete against the Mi A3’s is Xiaomi’s own Redmi Note 7: at Php 11,290 for the 4GB/128GB variant, you get a dual rear camera setup, a conventional fingerprint scanner, and an older Snapdragon 660 processor in exchange for a bigger 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS display.

When compared to its predecessor, Xiaomi Mi A3 comes with a lot of amendments. It has brought back the 3.5 mm headphone and expandable storage support — the things Mi A2 was criticised for. Over that, it has also upscaled the design and camera performance by a vast margin, which plays in favour of the Mi A3 as the majority of buyers do consider these two factors paramount.

Should you buy the Mi A3? If you want a Xiaomi phone with the stock Android and one that will get upgraded to Android 10 quickly, Mi A3 is that device. The performance is not bad, the battery life has improved drastically and there are useful design changes like the re-addition of the headphone jack and splash-resistance coating. The selfie camera is impressive.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 is quite good when it comes to performance and camera but falls short in the display department. It offers just HD+ display whereas the competition offers Full HD+ display. Further, the A3 offers amazing battery life and the stock Android experience is quite smooth. If you want a stock Android experience instead of the custom user interface and can tolerate the low-resolution display, you can opt for this one. But if you are okay with a custom UI and can spend a little more, you can go for the Redmi Note 7 Pro which would also be good buy.

Xiaomi’s Mi CC9e has finally arrived in the Philippines, clothed in Android One and sold as the Mi A3. Xiaomi has followed roughly the same formula in 2019 as they did two years previously: pluck a fairly good bang-for-the-buck phone from their lineup, strip out MIUI and replace it with pure Android.

The competition under Rs 15,000 price bracket is tough in India. There are phones like the Realme 5 Pro, the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the Samsung Galaxy M30, among others. Despite tough competitors, I believe at Rs 12,999 the Mi A3 is a good deal if not great. Why not great? It's because of the screen and the overall performance of the smartphone.

See from the point of Android One, the Mi A3 is a great proposition. You get a terrific display and overall smooth performance with very good cameras and a compact form factor – very Nexus! But bring it into the mainstream and it suddenly starts looking vulnerable. The Mi A3 is a very good device for Android One fans, but if you do not value stock Android, you will consider alternatives. This is one for Android purists, really.

Yes, the Mi A3’s pricing and placement is a bit confusing. Its focus is supposed to be the camera but the ultra-wide angle lens feels a bit gimmicky. Android One is not exactly special anymore, thanks to Nokia’s entire 2019 lineup and the Xiaomi’s own Redmi Note 7 Pro offers a better chipset and a higher resolution display at a lower price. Which begs the question, should Xiaomi just kill the A series?

The Mi A3 combines a striking gradient design with decent internals and a clean software interface with the promise of quick updates. The 4030mAh battery easily lasts a day, the Snapdragon 665 chipset ensures there's no lag, and the 3.5mm jack is back. However, the 720p display is lackluster, and the in-display fingerprint reader leaves a lot to be desired.

Xiaomi bravely brought back the headphone jack, microSD card slot, together with a large battery. These are commendable feats - but the screen and performance are two major downsides that turned the Mi A3 into a dealbreaker. In a game of trade-offs, I think the Xiaomi Mi A3 is a downgrade compared to the Mi A2 from last year.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 has gotten so many things right that we are beyond conflicted at the end of this review. The screen is one of the most important features on a smartphone and the Mi A3 has the right panel but the wrong resolution. And then it goes to ace every test we've put it through. We can't call it a winner, that is certain, but it is truly unique in both good and bad ways.
