ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Space Edition Smartphone Review
Source: OI Spice Tech News English EN→zh-CN
The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Space Edition smartphone doesn’t come with any major improvement and everything is as it is as the Axon 40 Ultra. The primary difference would be the new design layout and fast charging speed. But if you are looking for something unique from the ZTE in the flagship range, you should purchase this phone right away. Although, the phone is currently exclusive to the china market only. Aside from this, there are tons of other value-of-money options that come this year. Therefore, we would recommend you go with alternative options such as Google Pixel 7 Pro which renders the best features and is offered at almost the same price. But the final decision is in your hand, so pick the device according to your wish wisely.

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Space Edition Specifications, Pros, and Cons
Source: OI Spice Tech News English EN→zh-CN
The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Space Edition was launched in December 2022 at the price of $810 (Rs 66,999 in India) approx. The smartphone comes with 5G connectivity and equips 6.8 inches AMOLED display panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1500 nits peak brightness. For software, the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Space Edition runs on the Android 12 OS and MyOS 12 user interface. Besides this, you will receive flagship performance with the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset integrated with Adreno 730 GPU support. You can purchase this device in 12GB / 18GB RAM with 512GB / 1TB internal storage option, while support for SD card is missing on the smartphone. As for photography, the Axon 40 Ultra Space Edition on the rear packs a true 64MP triple camera setup that can record 8K videos at 30fps. 100% ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Review: Great Smartphone For Selfie Haters
Source: Android Headlines English EN→zh-CN
The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra gets a lot of things right. Stellar hardware design, uninterrupted and curved 6.8-inch AMOLED display, a large 5,000 mAh battery, loud stereo speakers, and great rear cameras. Not to mention USA availability and out-of-the-box 5G support. In addition, it has a clean software experience with zero bloatware and 65W fast charging support. With the Ultra moniker in the branding and improved hardware along with the curved uninterrupted display, the price is $799 for the base version. So if you want a unique-looking device and are not into selfies then the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra makes sense. But if selfies are important to you then for about the same price you can get the Samsung Galaxy S22 or for a bit more get the Google Pixel 6 Pro with a small cutout and a large curved 4K AMOLED display. And outside the USA you can look at plenty of devices from Xiaomi and Oppo/Vivo to compare against before settling on a smartphone of your choice.

It's sleek, it's upscale, it's fast. The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra packs some powerful hardware, kept in check by a dedicated cooling system. You'll enjoy that edge-to-edge 120Hz AMOLED panel with an invisible front camera under the screen. Weirdly, it also skips some of the most popular features that define a flagship: waterproofing, wireless charging, and consistently great cameras.

Priced at $799, the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra has quite a bit of competition, especially from more mainstream brands such as Samsung. But overall, it is a solid performer with clean-looking software and near-stock Android experience. The curved display is excellent if you watch a lot of videos and play a lot of games, and we can appreciate the future forward design of an in-display camera. The only downside are its cameras that would have otherwise made this phone truly amazing.

The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra smartphone is a decent flagship smartphone that offers proper performance, decent battery life, and an industry-leading display. Besides this, you will attain an impeccable gaming experience with a smooth user interface. So, overall, it’s worth your money and time. But still, there’s no denying that the market offers several alternative options too. If you are looking for all-rounder specs with faster android updates, we will recommend you to go with the Pixel 6 Pro for impressive camera quality, while the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus comes out to be a great choice with 4 years of Android and security updates.

80% ZTE Axon 40 Ultra review: Can this flagship compete with Android’s best phones?
Source: Tom's Guide English EN→zh-CN
If it didn't have the under-display camera, the Axon 40 Ultra would be easy to confidently back as a flagship alternative for users who didn't want just another Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel. But since it does have that unusual selfie shooter, it makes judging the phone's overall quality and ideal buyer tricky. The low price of the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra makes it easy to choose if your budget can't stretch to a Galaxy S22 Ultra, thanks to the Axon’s 64MP cameras and 65W charging. But the front camera can be very important to users for selfies or video calls, so the quality of the under-display camera could be a deal breaker, even at this price. I'd recommend the Axon 40 Ultra to anyone who wants the maximum amount of phone for less than $800 and feels like the similarly priced iPhone 13 or Galaxy S22 don’t offer quite enough. If you're prepared to spend the money needed to get a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or iPhone 13 Pro Max, you're probably going to get a better-rounded experience with those phones. If you're determined to stick to a £700 - £800 budget though, the most interesting comparison for the Axon 40 Ultra is....

Source: Android Authority English EN→zh-CN
The Axon 40 Ultra gets most of the basics right, delivering a high-powered, long-lasting smartphone that tops up in under an hour. The addition of versatile rear cameras and that full-screen experience enabled by a stealthy under-display selfie camera means you’ve got an intriguing yet capable proposition at a very reasonable asking price. However, it’s clear that there are a few gaps in the Axon 40 Ultra’s armor, starting with those disappointing selfies. Even at a more affordable flagship price, just shy of $800 is a tough ask for a phone that lacks an IP rating, wireless charging, and a long-term update pledge. There are a few alternatives on the market that come in at the same price or undercut the ZTE device while offering these extras.

Yes, the selfie camera is pants, but I’m a sucker for value for money. That is what the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra offers in a strong Android flagship packed with powerful specs, good battery life and decent rear cameras. Hiding the front-facing snapper under the screen has become an artform for ZTE now,; it is one of the best at making it an invisible, un-disturbed rectangle of AMOLED goodness. All-in-all, if you can work around its pitfalls, this is a decent phone that is pitted against stiff competition.

The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra is a good phone, but it just falls short of being a great one. The screen is excellent, the battery life very good, and performance levels are outstanding, too. However, the rear camera is decent without being exceptional, and the under-screen selfie camera is genuinely terrible, despite (or probably because of) its innovative design. If mobile photography is one of your priorities, then you’d be better off checking out a device such as the Pixel 6.

ZTE’s Axon 40 Ultra pushes the camera game forward… kind of
Source: Mobile Syrup English EN→zh-CN
Every year it feels increasingly strange that ZTE continues to try to compete at the near flagship level. Its OS is getting better, but it’s still incomplete and filled with random software instead of a smooth experience. Considering the battery issues I faced last year, I wasn’t expecting great hardware this year, but the Axon 40 Ultra feels great in my hand. The screen could be better, but overall it’s passable. The camera is pretty fun, and I love that 35mm focal length for photography. I’d like to see more companies adopt something similar in the future. The under-display camera, on the other hand, is terrible and ZTE should probably give that up. You can pre-order the phone from ZTE for $799 USD (roughly $1,000 CAD).

If you’re not a selfie fan and you love the idea of an interrupted display with a few extra pixels of usable space, then sure. It’s not a perfect phone, but you can expect strong specs and a solid rear camera setup to back up that unique viewing experience. In case I didn’t make it clear earlier though, anyone who expects to get much use of out of the front camera should really look elsewhere. This tech is impressive, and this is the best it’s been yet, but there’s still work to be done. In practice, this isn’t the phone for you if you ever choose to use your selfie shooter.

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Review

ZTE’s 2022 flagship Android 12 phone, the Axon 40 Ultra, leans heavy on the ultra specs: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, triple rear 64MP cameras including a periscope telephoto, a 120Hz 6.8” AMOLED display with under display selfie camera and fingerprint scanner, and 5G. It goes on sale globally.

Another year, another Axon Ultra is challenging the established ways of doing smartphone cameras. The signs were there last year, but we may have overlooked them - now, ZTE has abandoned caution and has gone for a 35mm primary camera. And we can't say we're not fans. 35mm smartphone cameras from the early days were limited, but there were no ultrawides back then - today, there's always the zoom-out button for when stepping back isn't possible. And the Axon's main camera, thanks to its unusual specs, opens up possibilities you don't get anywhere else or not to that extent - mostly in real, actual lens blur, but also perspective. The Axon's other two cameras are properly good too, especially during the day, but not too shabby in the dark either. It's only in certain aspects of video recording that we saw missteps, but judging by the rate of updates we've been getting, they should be addressed sooner rather than later. There'll be no fix for the under-display selfie camera whose biggest virtue is its invisibility - certainly not its image quality.

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Review: Fantastic at everything, except selfies
Source: XDA Developers English EN→zh-CN
The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra is a phone with a lot of compromises, but it’s aimed at a very specific type of user. If you don’t care about the selfie camera, it’s probably already high up on your list thanks to that stellar display. Coming in at €829 though, it’s a pretty tall ask when there are smartphones with a lot of the same features and better cameras for a lot cheaper. For example, in Europe, you can save €80 and get the Realme GT 2 Pro, a phone that honestly offers a lot more. You get a longer support window, much better cameras, the same charging speed, better software, and a much nicer QHD+ LTPO display. The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra’s best selling point is the display, but even that a lot of people likely won’t care about and falters behind the display tech of a cheaper phone. A friend of mine saw the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra and thought it was cool, but pointed out that the front-facing camera on their phone doesn’t bother them because it’s in the center of the status bar anyway. To be honest, I completely see where they’re coming from.

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Gives Other Ultra Phones a Run for Their Money [Review]
Source: G Style Magazine English EN→zh-CN
ZTE might not be a brand you’re familiar with here in the U.S., but they’re pretty well known globally. It’s a shame that we actually don’t have more devices here to choose from other than your usually Apple or Samsung phones, which pretty much dominate here. The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra really is a great device that has a lot going for it in terms of specs and usability. The cameras for the most part are fantastic and the display is gorgeous even though it’s only FHD+. The under-display front camera is very well hidden and really does make the display look that much better. The only thing I’d really ding the phone is the lack of waterproofing or dust proofing certifications and that the glass isn’t Gorilla Glass or equivalent. Also so lackluster selfie cam quality. However, I’m able to turn a blind eye to some of its shortcomings mainly because the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra will retail at an astonishing $799 globally, in this configuration, when it is released on June 21, 2022. That undercuts many of today’s flagships. Not only that. It still comes with a charger!

The OnePlus 10 Pro ($899) might be another device you should consider in lieu of the Axon 40 Ultra. It doesn’t have an under-display selfie camera and costs $100 more, but you’re getting perks like wireless charging, a good primary camera, a superior screen, and three years of OS updates. It also shares a few of the Axon 40 Ultra’s strengths such as battery life, fast charging, and the same powerful processor, though it’s a little rough around the edges due to the similarly lacking IP rating (unless you buy from T-Mobile), mediocre supporting cameras, and some software inconsistencies. You should also keep the iPhone 13 ($799) in mind if you’re open to joining the Apple ecosystem. It lacks a high refresh rate screen, has a massive notch, lacks a telephoto camera, and misses out on fast charging (and the charger). However, Apple’s phone also brings a powerful processor, IP68 rating, wireless charging, and access to an exclusive ecosystem.

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra review: The best phone design of 2022
Source: Talk Android English EN→zh-CN
I’m impressed enough with the design of the Axon 40 Ultra that I’d recommend the phone on that alone. The material, shape, and notch-less screen are big enough selling points on their own that make the phone very pleasant to use. The Snapdragon muscle and great battery life are the cherry on top. It’s not a perfect phone, though, with a camera that lags behind the competition and an update policy that doesn’t have the track record of what you’ll get from a Samsung phone. But even with those complaints, it’s one of the most appealing phones I’ve reviewed in a while, and anyone that’s looking for a well designed phone could do much worse than what ZTE’s got on offer. If you’re interested in jumping on the Axon 40 Ultra early, ZTE is offering a promotion where you can put down a $1.99 pre-order to knock $50 off the phone’s $799 list price. That entry model is the 128/8GB variant, but ZTE is offering a some steps up if you need more.

The Axon 40 Ultra will be available for purchase in North America starting June 21. At $799, the handset undercuts every 2022 flagship, including that of Samsung, Google, Apple, and OnePlus. For all the high-end specs you're getting, along with a matured under-display camera, ZTE has quite the value offering on its hands. Stay tuned for the rest of the review as I further test the performance and battery life of the device.
