That said, if you're a hardcore gamer who craves an absolutely baller set up, but barely has enough room for a PC case, this could be an ideal solution. I can also see the Origin EON17-SLX in the hands of professionals who need to create media on the road and might partake in the occasional fragging session.

The Origin EON17-SLX is better classified as a mobile desktop, rather than a notebook. In the full swing of today's thinness craze, a 10.5-pound notebook is, to put it mildly, a wild standout. Its 1.8-inch-thick, all-black chassis looks positively gigantic next to just about any other notebook.

What the Eon17-SLX offers is two distinct advantages. First, it's future-proofed against at least the next few holiday seasons of new PC games, so it'll be several years before it feels old (today, even laptops with the older, slower Nvidia 860M chip still play most games decently).

Wow, just wow. Origin PC has an undeniable winner on its hands with the Eon17-SLX. From CPU to GPU, the tremendous beast offers an endless font of power that effortlessly serves up beautiful graphics and multitasking abilities. On top of that, you get a lightning-fast SSD, a lovely display and a blockbuster sound system with almost whisper-quiet fans.

The base price of the EON17-SLX is just north of $2,000, but our review unit arrived with a price tag of $3,900, which included a three-year warranty. Without that, you’re looking at about $3,600. Which is a lot. Yet the price doesn’t damage value as much as you’d expect. The Acer Predator 17 we reviewed was $2,600, which means the Origin is about 40 percent more expensive.

Though it faces heavy (literally) competition from the largest and costliest gaming rigs, the Origin EON17-X has plenty to offer a gamer who wants cost-no-object performance but objects to a cost of $3,000 or more. Its keyboard and display are good, except for the latter's viewing angles; its speakers are decent; and its performance is blazing fast.

The Origin EON17-X asks users to make little compromise in exchange for its impressive processor power. It’s only a tad larger than competitors from Alienware and Asus, and it’s also not much more expensive. In fact, it’s a bit less expensive than the Asus G751 or Alienware 17 when similarly equipped.

Aside from running loud and hot, it’s tough to say anything else bad about this uber-book. It boasts an excellent keyboard, trackpad, and audio; its display is 4K and glorious; it offers tons of super-fast storage; and it can smoke any notebook and most desktops. Yeah, if you’re not used to gaming laptops their premium pricing, this rig will seem painfully expensive, but the EON17-X is extremely fine-tuned and pretty badass all-around. What more can you ask for in a gaming machine?

It's hard to argue with the Origin EON17-SLX 10's level of performance. It's the fastest notebook we've tested to date, by far, and it puts most high-end desktops to shame. It packed some serious firepower as we reviewed it, with a desktop Core i7-6700K processor overclocked to 4.5GHz, dual Nvidia GTX 1080 graphics cards in SLI (also overclocked), DDR4 2,666MHz RAM, and a RAID 0 array of PCI Express SSDs, all backed by dual 330-watt power adapters. We're convinced it's the limit of what's possible in a 17.3-inch chassis.

To put it simply, the EON17-X 10 Series is the most powerful gaming laptop we've tested. Of course it's incredibly expensive, but on the high end of an inherently pricey category, it delivers precisely what it should, and is a much better value than the Signature 17, which comes with less storage, slightly lower performance, and an inferior display. It's far from the most mobile laptop at this size and weight, possibly leaving you wondering if you should get a desktop instead.

Any way you slice it, the Origin PC Eon17-SLX 10 Series is a hell of a gaming laptop. For $4,708, you get an absolute beast of a machine that will tear through any activity you throw at it -- even virtual reality. While the performance quotient is impressive, the 4K Nvidia G-Sync display is an experience in and of itself -- one that, unfortunately, many PC gamers will miss due to the price.

This is one of the most powerful mobile laptops we’ve ever tested, but sadly, it's more of a gaming laptop than a true professional portable workstation. Still, if you want a no-compromise device that can work and play hard, it’s worth considering.

Origin PC's Eon17-X is a tank, on both the outside and the inside. It powered through everything I threw at it with incredible performance, its keyboard was incredibly comfortable to type on and its speakers serenaded my ears with some bangin' tunes. However, I can't look past its crazy-dim 17.3-inch display, its low-quality design and its wild price.

The Origin PC EON17-X is a highly capable, highly powerful platform to base your own DTR build on. Keep that in mind. This laptop isn't meant to be truly portable; you need both hands to carry it. If that's the type of portable power you want, so much power you can barely lift it, the Origin PC EON17-X is exactly what you were looking for. For me personally, it's perfect. I don't want a box under my desk. I don't want a huge mess of wires, and although the second power brick is a bit much for some, I look at it as one for the CPU and the other for the GPU. The DP ports out the back mean I can use my Rift S VR headset with this easily, too. Everything I personally need as a content creator is at my fingertips, and for that, I have to say thank you Origin PC for making sure there are options like this on the market today, as well as for sending me one to use and figure out what the ultimate in DTR laptop performance brings to the table today.

It’s time for a confession. When the Origin EON17-X arrived on my doorstep, I was blown away by the entirety of it as it was a bit overwhelming. Then I opened it up and realized that this is what high-end premium gaming is all about. It’s about a laptop that has all the bells and whistles. It’s luxurious in every way possible, from its fast and vivid (albeit, dim) 17-inch, 300Hz display to its powerful 11th Gen Intel Core i9 CPU backed by the latest Nvidia RTX GeForce 3080 GPU with 16GB of VRAM. It may be redonkulous-sized but, so am I, and I love it. Origin even gets the audio quality right. Nobody wants a Bentley monster truck gaming laptop with tinny speakers or a weak cooling system.
