WiFi 5 是 Onyx Boox Page 所配备的最快的 Wi-Fi 标准。因此,这款平板电脑的传输速率在其价格范围内还算不错,但有时会出现明显的下降,尤其是在接收方向。我们在使用参考路由器华硕 ROG Rapture AXE11000 进行测试时就注意到了这一点。遗憾的是,Onyx Boox Page 不支持移动网络。

使用的软件是Android 11,但界面非常符合电子阅读器的要求,因此重点是电子书库。遗憾的是,Onyx Boox Store 不能在欧洲使用,但至少有一些开源的英文书籍。Google Play 商店预装在一个名为 "Apps "的独立版块中,也可用于下载亚马逊 Kindle、Tolino 等第三方供应商提供的阅读器应用程序。几乎所有的Android 应用程序都可以在平板电脑上使用,但由于黑白显示屏的帧率较低,视频或游戏通常用不上。

该阅读器可处理以下格式:pdf、djvu、azw、azw3、doc、docm、docx、epub、fb2、fbz、html、mobi、odt、prc、rtf、sxw、trc、txt、chm 和 ppt。不过,由于应用程序的支持,更奇特的格式也不在话下。

打开兼容文件时默认启动的 Neo Reader 提供了多种选项:你可以使用双指手势放大或缩小文本,在一定时间后自动翻页,全面调整文本格式,还可以优化对比度以获得最佳可视性。此外,它还具有与谷歌语音合成技术配合使用的文本到语音功能。预设的语音能可靠地朗读文本,但听起来不是很悦耳,而且在诗歌文本中,重点往往很奇怪。

E-Ink-Carta1200 显示屏的像素为 1,682 x 1,264 像素,对角线为 7 英寸。这是一款黑白显示屏。该面板于 2021 年推出,与前代产品相比,对比度更高,响应速度更快。

不过,电子墨水显示屏的特殊功能在这里也同样适用:其响应时间和帧速率无法与 IPS 或 OLED 面板相比,因此几乎无法播放电影或玩快节奏游戏。此外,更新图像后往往会残留之前屏幕内容的重影。

另一方面,在显示文档时,即使没有背光源,在环境光线充足的情况下,屏幕的对比度和可读性也非常出色。图像设置完成后,即使在没有电源的情况下也能保留静态图像。这样既美观又能降低能耗。

Onyx Boox Page 上的照明实际上相当明亮:在使用分光光度计和 CalMAN 软件进行的测试中,我们测得的亮度高达 151 cd/m²。我们没有注意到任何 PWM 闪烁。

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.
